Locus Amoenus was in the perfect location, and had a fantastic setup for my husband and I, and our two children aged 10 and 12.

Wow. Locus Amoenus was perfect. The room was spacious with hot tub, breakfast area, bedroom, bathroom and shower. Beautiful room built into a cave. The bed was the most comfortable we've had in Italy. The owner was very accomodating. The location is ideal as it is near the main square so you don't have to drag your bags too far but has a beautiful view of all the caves and can easily walk anywhere from there. Great little outside sitting area to enjoy the view and a glass of wine. Just a perfect room in a perfect place. Can't come up with anything lacking.

Amazing location. Great breakfast. Comfortable bed. Great shower. Sun light and views. Not a dislike but remember you are paying for the hot tub/spa, so use it!

What a view! We set our alarm to get up to see the sunrise over Matera, we walked outside our apartment cave to the stone wall and watched a magnificent sunrise literally on our doorstep. There is a well equipped shared kitchen where we had our breakfast every morning, we were treated with croissants and fruit, juice, cafe made fresh and served every morning by our hostess Elisabetta. Our apartment was suffice to say unusual and unique, very comfortable and spacious. While were were only in two, it had an upstairs or mezzanine level with additional beds which we didn't require but spacious even so, point being we were not restricted by our numbers and Elisabetta catered to our needs. Located a very short walk from Palazzo Lanfranchi in Piazzetta Pascoli and from there you can walk to all main Vias (Streets) of Materia Centro Storico. Access to the main roads and parking if you drive from here as well. It was like being at the beginning of the Centro Storico, upper and lower areas and you just walked to where you wanted to go so easily. Could have booked more time in Matera.

The location and uniqueness of this property were wonderful--in the Sassi area of Matera. It incorporated the cave-like aspect of the Sassi nicely while still having all the necessary comforts. We stayed here as a family of 4 in the larger room--our two sons stayed in the upstairs loft (be aware that the beds upstairs are twin sized) But all beds were comfortable. Our hosts were wonderful. Welcoming and helpful. We had a problem with the shower and the husband fixed it immediately to our satisfaction. You can't drive in the Sassi, but our host gave us info of a very good and reasonably priced parking garage within walking distance, so that was helpful. The breakfast was very nice and the eating area was lovely. Matera is such a fascinating place--well worth the visit, and not as crowded as some of the other tourist spots. This property was right in the middle of the historic area and made walking to the sites very easy. Very private and fairly quiet at night. We would stay here again.

This booking is located in the ZTL/walking area of Matera - so if you drive you will need to pay for parking. We found a lot about a 4 minute walk away. It was easy to find and centrally located. The booking consists of a large open room with the cave style walls, an open loft with two twin beds upstairs and a bathroom with a nice shower. The main room has a queen bed, a couch/sitting area, a desk, a wardrobe and a dresser. We were very comfortable. The owner was kind and the breakfast was good. We were able to use the refrigerator and kitchen that is located in the room next to the room we slept in. There is no balcony. If you walk 5 steps from the front door, you can see a lovely view of the city in the day time. The night time view is more limited and better if you walk about 1 minute up the hill to see the lights of the town at night. Overall, a great place and I would recommend it.

Our host was charming and caring, and her limited English wasn't an issue. She was invested but didn't bother us either.

Everything: location, size of the apartment, jacuzzi, comfortable bed and best breakfast with freshly squeezed juices, warm croissants and all. At the time there were workman outside the property so on Monday we got woken up quite early by noises, but it was out of control for the property owners and it didn’t bother us much.
