the view and the hospitality

Staying in Luciana’s room, and sitting out on the small balcony in the evening, in the center of old Matera was such a special experience. Because Matera is beautiful, because the room is very comfortable with unique creative personality, and because Luciana is such a warm kind soul. Breakfasts on her patio under umbrella are delicious. Luciana gives good advice and recommendations. You will feel well cared for. We loved every minute.

The apartment was spacious, comfortable, beautiful, and full of personality. The view was extraordinary. The best view of the town and absolutely magical. The breakfast which was delivered to our little patio was plentiful and delicious. Our host Luciana lives downstairs and she treated us like old friends. She met us at the taxi so we could find the place easily. She provided a map and showed us all the highlights. She provided fantastic restaurant recommendations and even called to make reservations. She was extremely responsive when we needed her help which we did at the end of our stay. When we discovered that our prepaid car rental let us down we were in a panic as to how to get to our next destination. We found there was a train in 20 minutes. Luciana drove us herself to the station! By far, this was our most memorable stay in our two week itinerary. Nothing. It was ideal for us.

Clean and beautiful.

We were a little disappointed in the old and rickety outdoor furniture on the tiny balcony with a planter box of dead weeds and also that the room didn't have some basics like a wine opener or wine glasses, coffee mugs (despite a kettle), no water provided etc. We were not able to access the internet either which was very inconvenient.

Luciana was so sweet. The view was amazing. The water pressure
-
Beautiful view over the city , magnificent breakfasts served by our lovely hostess, Luciana on the terrace . Large room ( compared to others in Puglia ) and easy walking distance to everything . The only downside was Wi-Fi going out - but Luciana was going to organise a serviceman to correct that problem

Luciana was a delight. We appreciate her efforts to provide a comfortable stay and give us insight as to what there is to see & do in the old town. Our room was quite comfortable, breakfast was more than we could eat. We will be back. Getting our bags from parking to her house was challenging because you have to walk on cobbled streets/sidewalks. Her house is in the historic zone, so no cars. But honestly, it is worth it for the location.

The fantastic room was wonderful, as well as a balcony with our table and chairs. We were with a couple and a friend with her daughter. The beds were super, the bathroom was beautiful and large, and viewing the situation was incredible. Each breakfast was delicious and Luciana was delightful! Nothing.

My daughter and I had a lovely stay here for two nights! The room is very lovely and a spacious size, as well as the bathroom. The bed is comfortable and such a treat to have a duvet! A perfect location to explore Matera. Above all else, Luciana is the warmest host and we felt very welcome. We loved our delicious breakfasts on the patio. Grazie millie Luciana for your wonderful and warm hospitality!!!

This was the most beautiful accommodation in a wonderful town. Luciana is the perfect host - so friendly and welcoming. Provided lots of information when we arrived on where to go and what to see. Luciana’s breakfast was amazing, prepared with love and delivered to the room. The view from the room and balcony is just amazing - perfect spot to start the day with breakfast and even more stunning in the late afternoon and early evening. I could have sat there all day! Room extremely comfortable and a great shower. Nothing to dislike - it was perfect!

The breakfast brought by the host each morning was excellent. Kept me going for the whole day, really. The location in the middle of the oldest parts of Matera was excellent. Very quiet area, obviously no car traffic nearby. Very friendly host. Warm water supply was good. Can't think of anything that should be improved really. It was as described, even better.

Luciana is an amazing host. She’s friendly and careful, plus she prepares AMAZING breakfasts. The room was cozy, located in a perfect position with such a beautiful view. Recommended: thanks Luciana for your tips and your kindness! Tips for the host: it would’ve been 11/10 with a television and a coffee machine :)

Il Sasso e la Seta is in a great location, with an expansive view of the neighborhood. In the early morning it is pure joy to just sit in the open doorway, bask in the sunshine, and listen to church bells and birds and feel the town come to life. The breakfasts (as frequently noted in many, many reviews!) are splendid -- made with love in a bountiful array of savory and sweet. The room is very comfortable and feels like a friend's home, with thoughtful touches of original art. Superb! That I booked only a two-night stay! It was very hard to leave such a wonderful place!

So much to love about this place! From the superb location, amazing way to absorb the location through having yummy breakfast on the balcony every morning to exceptional staff Luciana who even prepared a take away breakfast on the last day due to our early check out!
