Uma Kalai

The property is small but very well appointed with a beautiful view from the dining area / pool overlooking an adjacent rice field and river valley. We were very fortunate to have Ade take care of us, as well as Name in the dining area. They both took extra time to make sure we had everything we wanted and were so gracious with their time. We took several tours and had Rana as our driver and Arim as our guide. They were both outstanding and really fun to spend the day with. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The private pool was great in the "Fire" suite, although to be honest it could have been cool and I would have enjoyed it as much as I did with it heated. It was my own mistake but I thought the hotel was walkable to central Ubud. Although I think you could technically do this, there really aren't sidewalks so you're better off getting a ride.

Everything was incredible! Every detail of the grounds, the room, the food, the drinks, the staff, were all perfect! The entire staff was amazing and super attentive and detailed. Gusti, Ami, and Ade were all awesome. There was a specific time around sunset where the mosquitos go a little crazier than any other point in the day and my wife ended up getting a few bug bites one night. Gusti made a mixture to put on the bug bites that got rid of them entirely by the next morning. It was a life saver.

Can't say enough good things about this hotel. When we had some initial issues with our room, the staff went above and beyond in fixing them and making us feel welcome and comfortable. The hotel itself is amazing and perfectly located in Ubud, the restaurant has great breakfast and dinning (we always had breakfast and dinner there as the food was so good), but the very best thing about the hotel is the kind and extremely competent staff (special mention to Adi and Gusti who are just incredible people). Loved the easy communication through whatsapp.

Uma Kalai is truly a magical place. The property is stunning, beautifully designed, and surrounded by nature — every detail feels thoughtful and luxurious. The service is exceptional: warm, attentive, and always ready to help with anything you need. We felt welcomed and cared for from the moment we arrived. The ambiance is peaceful and relaxing, perfect for unwinding and enjoying the beauty of Bali. This stay was beyond our expectations — unforgettable in every way. Absolutely amazing - would rate 11/10 if possible. The views, staff, and food were all perfect. It’s so peaceful there. We left completely recharged and full of energy. Jun, Gusti, and Ade made our stay truly memorable. Thank you! We live in the States, so if it weren’t for the 25+ hour flight, we’d be back in a month. Hopefully next year! Uma Kalai was the highlight of our trip to Bali. The place itself is beautiful and convenient to all of the activities we wanted to do. However Gusti, Jun, and Ade were really what set the whole experience over the top. Starting from the second we arrived they consulted with us on our itinerary making helpful recommendations every day. They also made sure we always had a drink in our hand whether it be a fresh squeezed juice, a coffee, or one of their many excellent cocktails (Gusti even showed me how to make his mojito and Ade his Negroni). After spending the week there, I didn’t get a chance to try the local suckling pig, so Jun even went out of his way to drop one off at our next hotel near his home. They didn’t just give great service but truly treated us as friends in a way no other hotel could replicate. Beyond the excellent butler service, the food was impeccable. I tried nearly every item on the menu and from top to bottom it was exceptional - we actually regretted the one night we went out to a “nice” restaurant. The spa was amazing as well - I highly recommend a Balinese massage, my back has never felt better. And we even got to do some yoga on the deck one morning with the spectacular view from the pool. They also arranged a driver, Rana, to facilitate our daily activities which was both affordable and he could not have been nicer and even added some stops to our itinerary which made our days feel a little more spontaneous and fun. That we had to leave and go home eventually.

Everyone there treated us very well. Eka was very welcoming and provided a welcome drink. Gusti delivered our belongings to the room and gave us ample information about the location and recommendations. Ade and Ami were both incredibly helpful and accommodating in every way. It truly feels like you're being pampered staying here. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to be close enough to Ubud but experience a unique and tranquil luxury experience.

Staying at Uma Kalai in Ubud was an exceptional experience that exceeded all of our expectations. The property itself is stunning, nestled in the lush landscape of Ubud, offering breathtaking views. The architecture and interiors reflect a perfect blend of traditional Balinese culture and modern luxury. However, what truly set our experience apart were the people. In particular Gusti and Rana. Gusti’s attention to detail, friendliness and espresso martinis are unmatched and he made travelling with a nut allergy extremely comfortable (and even made us our very own nut free snacks!). Rana, the driver, was another highlight of our stay. Rana’s friendly demeanour and expertise in navigating the roads of Bali made all of our trips enjoyable and stress free. Rana shared insights about Balinese culture and history and pointed out hidden gems along the way. We cannot recommend Uma Kalai enough to anyone staying in Ubud!

I can’t say enough about this incredible place! To paraphrase what one previous reviewer stated, just go ahead and book it! You will not regret your decision! Everything was impeccable. The staff were so accommodating and lovely. The food was excellent and the highest quality produce I had anywhere on the island. The grounds and amenities are top notch. We took advantage of almost everything this property had to offer. Some of our highlights were the couple’s massage (and I absolutely loved the smell of their proprietary massage oil that is also for sale onsite), the morning sunrise yoga class, the private Pilates reformer class that I requested and paid for, and a full-day tour we took of local sites (Jatiluwih Rice Terrace, Sangeh Monkey Forest and more) with the hotel’s private driver. Our experience was truly amazing. Every need was met. The villa was incredibly clean and the bed was oh so comfortable and pillowy soft! And I can’t say enough about the service we received — from pre-planning our tour and activities with Ms. Eka and Ayu ahead of our stay (they were great in their communication via WhatsApp), to the driver, Rana, who delivered us from the airport and also took us on a full day tour, to the wonderful butler staff, Ade, Ami, and Gusti, who met our every request, to the kitchen and wait staff for the wonderful food served, and last but not least to the cleaning staff who keep the entire property spotless and welcoming. If I ever return to Bali I will certainly stay here again! Note that we stayed here for 5 nights and then for another 5 nights at a different property closer to the center of Ubud. For relaxation and a place to truly unwind, away from the hustle and traffic-jammed streets of downtown, this is THE BEST place to stay.

We loved everything about Uma Kalai. The quality of the accommodation, food, service were impeccable. Best of all were the staff. Ade, Ami and Gusti made us feel so welcome and comfortable. We learned so much from them all about Bali, the culture and good places to visit nearby. Gusti’s cocktails very some of the best we’ve had! The location, views and sense of peace and tranquility make this a really special place. We enjoyed our stay at Uma Kalai so much that we cut short our time to spend our last few days there. We can’t wait to return
