Great service , nice room and excellent breakfast. The second bathroom in our room was not finished to usual high standards. Shower door did not fit and not shower amenities or shelf to store them on.

Vetera Matera was the perfect stay — a gorgeous hotel with incredible views. If you’re looking for the best view and location, this is the place to stay. A true dream stay. One area for improvement would be the spa reception experience, as clearer communication in English and additional guest service training would make the experience even better for international travelers.

If you care about spa treatments and spa ambience, their spa will be a little disappointing.

Stunning property and gorgeous rooms. Housekeeping were inconsistent with their turn down service.

The hotel is new and super clean, in the middle of the city. It cannot be reached by car, you need to park in a parking provided by hotel and there is a car to take you to the hotel, the service was wonderful and quick. The restaurant is great and the whole experience in Matera was wonderful because of the hotel location, services and staff. Nothing

Beautiful new boutique hotel right in the main Sassi in matera old town. Cool cave rooms with modern amenities. Great breakfast. Nice spa and lounging areas and patios built into the hill. Attentive service. Friendly staff. Walkable to all areas of town including hike across the gorge. Expensive. Especially the restaurant and bar. More than double going into to Town. Staff still learning. Not quite 5*. The parking situation is tough. Car in a garage far away and costs $50 euros a day! Total rip off. Plus need a shuttle to get there and back and then in a very tight lane challenge to drive in and out and very slow service there. Probably better to not have a car in matera.

Hotel was very impressive! Great breakfast, good location, clean room, nice bed, terrific spa. We had a Romeo and Juliet massage, and the one massage therapist kept coughing and coughing during the massage. Not sure but my husband came down with Covid a few days later. Maybe the therapist should have worn a mask.

The location and the terraces The room was very very small, also the people at the reception were not bilingual so their English was poor, few times miss understood what we wanted. And they were ok but not like in other hotels same level. Breakfast was ok, only scramble eggs any other style was additional and the variety was just ok

Everything was perfect. I couldn't ask for a better 5 stars hotel for my honeymoon. Will definitely come back again!

We absolutely loved our stay at Vetera Matera. We had a very late arrival, around 11pm, and the staff were beyond accomodating. Our transfer shuttle met us at the packing garage and the communication was seemless. Giovanni was at reception upon check in, and was an absolute delight. Francesco was also very helpful, with wine and snacks ready when requested even at such a late arrvial time. Both were so proud of the hotel and the area, full of great tips and lots of history about the hotel and the area. Our room was amazing, we had a terrace which was so great to see the view late at night. The breakfast was lovely too, and we were sad we were only there for one night! Can not recommend this hotel enough. A great location to discover the town, with the friendliest of staff! (Fillipe who carried our bags up and down those stairs and drove us back to our car was amazing as well). Nothing, we loved it all.

Vetera Matera is an absolute gem and one of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed. From the moment we arrived, we were amazed by the incredible care and attention to detail that has gone into restoring this historic property. The way they’ve blended the charm and heritage of the old building with elegant, modern interiors and thoughtful design is simply stunning. Every corner feels special, and it’s the kind of place where you just want to sit, take it all in, and enjoy the magical ambience. The location is perfect for exploring Matera, and the valet service made everything effortless. We left our car at their partner parking and were picked up directly, which made the whole arrival experience smooth and stress-free. Even though the hotel is relatively new, it feels like it has been welcoming guests for many years. That is a true credit to the management and the entire team, who were warm, professional, and made us feel so well looked after. The food was outstanding, the cocktails were delicious, and the whole atmosphere was romantic and unforgettable. Relais & Châteaux should be very proud to have Vetera Matera in their collection. We are already looking forward to coming back and cannot recommend it highly enough. “Our only complaint? That our stay wasn’t long enough!”
