Breakfast was great, Claudia was an absolute delight- attentive, warm & engaging. A great big hug when we left, the kind of person you hope to meet on your travels.

The view from the window and the staff! Brilliant historic vibe! I absolutely loved the ancient, historical feel of this place. Beautifully preserved and full of charm.

The hotel is very well located overlooking the Sassi Barisano with lovely views from morning to night. Our room was perfect, with a small window overlooking the courtyard. The room was large, clean, comfortable and quiet. The manager and Claudia were wonderful hosts. We were given a bottle of wine on May 1st - a welcome gift. The management of the hotel is excellent, they provided a detailed video with all the instructions of how to reach the hotel and access our room. It was a bit difficult to walk from the parking due to our luggage and the rain but otherwise all was perfect.

We stayed in the Grotto, which was a cave. It was a different experience. Initially the room was very cold on the first night, Claudia the morning hostess was very accommodating and gave us a down comforter. The property owner rectified the issue and was able to get the heat to work and made it much more comfortable. Claudia greeted us every morning with a smile and set up breakfast daily. She is an absolute treasure! Be aware there is a lot of walking up many stairs to get to this property. The views are stunning!!

The conditioning unit in the room was noisy and woke us up at 6am. We had to shut off the electricity to make it stop. The sink was clogged.

Inside the walls of a special city. Great view. Nice staff. Very accommodating. Clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

There is no door on the shower so water gets everywhere when you shower.

My family of 5 booked 2 rooms and both were very clean and comfortable with nice furniture and decor. We appreciated the screens in the windows of our rooms. It allowed us to keep the window open to enjoy the amazing view of Matera. We also appreciated the video that was provided on how to find our rooms. Our experience at breakfast was unfortunately disappointing. Despite the open air dining area being almost entirely empty, we were not allowed to sit at a table with a view. The woman in charge of the buffet table made us sit in a spot where we were staring at the rock wall while the other tables sat empty. Throughout the meal this staff member on duty made us feel unwelcome, rolling her eyes and admonishing us at the buffet, explaining that food needed to be left for others, even though nothing was in short supply. When we politely asked if we had done something to upset her, we received no answer. It left our family of five feeling uncomfortable. In our 30 years of traveling Europe, we have never been treated with such an inhospitable manner. After such a lovely two-week stay in Italy, it was sad to end our trip on this sour note. The manager did try to compensate us and pay for our next meal in Matera, but we were on our way to the airport.

Authentic property with a view at a great location.

Location, Location, Location... it is incredible to sleep in one of the "caves" of Matera withing the Sassi neighborhood. Claudia, who helps during breakfast is a lovely lady who prepares some great cappuccinos... Claudio, and Geovany are responsive and try to solve the issues. Excellent Breakfast, in a lovely terrace with one amazing view of Matera. Location, Location, Location... 1. The pictures in Booking are a bit deceptive, honestly when I booked the property I thought I was going to a "hotel" in Matera.. and this was not the case. 2. They should be more accurate in their description of the difficulties to arrive to the property, once you make the reservation. There is a big difference between the description below you receive on your confirmation email... "Kindly be advised that we recommend traveling with comfortable luggage, as reaching the property requires navigating a typical Sassi di Matera pathway, which includes stairs both up and down" And the video they sent you the day before arrival. If you plan to go, do not go with large luggage, at the most go with a carry-on or a backpack, if not it will be a challenge to walk from the parking garage to your room carrying your luggage. Initially they gave me the option to hire a third party to help me with the luggage (at a cost of 8 Euro per trip), then after some discussion, they offered to help me themselves. Finally I decided to re-arrange my luggage, and leave the heavy suitcase inside the car, and go to the property just with two carry-ons. They tried to help and solve the issue, however it is still a difference between the description on the confirmation email, and the actual video of how to get to the property. Also, the room is not as nice as it is shown and described in the booking page. We had no AC in our room "Superior Family Room for 5", and although the fact that it is a cave, helps to keep a cooler temperature, in the summer it could be hot. (there are other rooms with AC) They could put some real cups or glasses, and not only plastic/paper. Overall, although the initial hick-ups we enjoyed our stay in Matera and in Corte . But I think they need to be more objective in their descriptions and photos.

It was amazing! Claudio and Claudia are superb hosts who will make your stay incredible. The location is in the old district so getting there is a little bit of a challenge but definitely worth it. Amazing views and breakfast was perfect with an outdoor patio. Grazie Claudio and Claudia Could have more lighting and larger/more mirrors but otherwise was perfect

Unique experience to stay in a cave room in Matera. The host was extremely helpful and provided a wonderful guide for everything you need during your visit. Room was spacious and the large bathtub felt luxurious. Nothing.
