Ryoma Ikebukuro I - Hostel

I’ve been booking this place since 2022, and I have not seen much effort made in terms of improvement. Some rooms still have a sweaty sock smell in the carpet, the WiFi is still weak if you’re not close to the front desk, toilet paper provided is still the same cheap, thin brand that’s easy to get used up by guests (and if it’s gone, you have to wait until next time staff comes in to replace it). They even used to provide paper towels by the sink but not anymore. I think least the owner could do is install some wall hooks in the shower room to hang clothes on or set up a WiFi extender near the middle or end of the building.

This place was clean and comfortable. Really close to good restaurants

A must for an Ikebukuro experience

Pretty good location and very easy access for late check in The futons were too hard and thin. Hard to climb up. Mold under the mattress when I looked at the end of the stay... Not very good

Good location near Ikebukuro station 1 night may be ok, but too uncomfortable for a longer stay. The mattress is very thin, so the bed is really hard. The same with the pillow, almost empty. The shower room is extremely uncomfortable: too small, no hooks on the walls, only a small basket for all the clothes and a towel.

Location is in the middle of the love hotel district in ikebukuro, so walking there can be a bit interesting. The "rooms" have lockers in them, and there is a fair amount of space to leave your suitcase or whatever compared to capsule hotels, so that was quite nice. Overall, considering the price and the amount of space you get for that, quite good. Shower / bathroom was a bit on the small side. Bed was quite hard, as there was no real mattress.

It is very quiet due to the carpet. The pods were very spacious and are like on the pictures. The locker is very nice and there are multiple showers per floor.

Wifi was quite okay and it was 15 minutes from public communication Very dirty, not cleaned. Mold, dust and dirty everywhere. Fridge, microwave disgusting dirty. Air-conditioning full of dust and dirt. Materace on the bed was old and used o much that I felt the metal under with every bone, my back and hips are dying.

I like the hostel, u can sleep alone but u know thre's other people around u so u not not lonely. Its perfect for me. I like the neighbourhood too. So u can hear other people. Its not a problem to me. Then room have no door but not a problem thinking the really nice price

very clean and decent amenities mattress was quite thin, back hurt after a couple nights sleeping on it. upstairs was a bit stuffy

The location is quite convenient if you take the subway. It’s quite noisy when you wanna sleep as you can hear the shaking of the subway’s movement.

BEDBUGS!!! please do not stay here, my skin burns and has bumps and i have to now be wary about my own apartment. also the bed is as comfortable as laying on the floor with a little carpet.

This has become a place that I regularly stay at whenever I travel to Japan. It almost feels like having a private room with how the beds are set up and separated from each other. Staff is only available in the morning when they do cleaning, but it’s not really necessary for them to be there and everything is pretty easy to deal with without staff. New towels are set outside every day. WiFi also works well. About a 10-15 minute walk to/from the main Ikebukuro station, but there is a dropoff zone for LUUP scooters right outside the building and so you could technically rent a scooter if you feel comfortable using them.

Very clean and well-kept. The bed and personal area was larger than I expected for a capsule hotel. Good private shower. Refrigerator if needed. The futon was quite hard, but at age 62, I don't often find standard futon to be comfortable anymore.

The shower was super narrow. It was hard to move around.
