Excellent location and nice staff

This hotel had some pros and cons I think it’s important to know going in, although none of the cons were dealbreakers for me. I’m only writing this review to give others an idea of what to expect. This was a perfectly serviceable place to sleep, but I would probably not book again because I prefer slightly more comfort than this hotel offered on default. I did not communicate any of the minor issues I had with the staff or give them a chance to better accommodate me, so I don’t blame them for anything I list below as a negative. Pros: - in the Chiaia neighborhood on a pedestrian only street – but, be aware taxis won’t be able to drop you off directly in front of the hotel - fantastic food within walking distance - delicious breakfast buffet in hotel - The staff was helpful and friendly - Fantastic pizza to go or to stay within steps from the hotel at Pizzeria Donna Sofia a Chiaia - Nearby convenient taxi stands at Piazza del Plebiscito Cons: - Drunk groups of both adults and very young children roaming the street at night - Vespas/scooters/motorcycles etc zipping around the pedestrian street – however, this is something I expect in Italy - Streets covered in litter and vomit from the night before - Very bright blue light on the wall mounted thermostat that made sleeping difficult because it would turn on and off randomly - One pillow per bed, making sitting up against the hard headboard uncomfortable - Hard beds - Many flies coming in as soon as the window is open, which isn’t the hotel’s fault - Predatory restaurant nearby who takes advantage of tourists by overcharging and serving badly prepared food at Antica Taverna a Chiaia

Helpful, friendly staff, cleanliness and efficient room cleaning, efficient breakfast service, warmth (this was January), shower (easy to control, not often the case in hotels), quiet. The lounge area was nice. Gateaux available all day a nice touch. The room temperature was difficult to control; very hard-to-operate touch-screen operation. Having a kettle, not yet common in Italy, would have been nice. Breakfast area a bit congested. Not being on the grouind floor, might have been difficult for oldies if the single, rather old-looking lift became out of order.

Comfortable room. I actually caught a cold while traveling so I spent more time in the room than expected and it was very comfortable to recuperate in. I would stay here again. The elevator was nice and I definitely used it when moving with my suitcase. The hotel is off the street so it did take me a minute to find it. Just a note for anyone using this hotel. I didn't ask so I admit that I'm not sure if it was possible to get, but I wish I could have made a cup of tea.

There is no sign of the hotel outside the main entrance, you have to ask for the hotel. The main entrance of the building closes after 20:00 and you have to enter through a tiny door afterwards. There is no mobile or internet signal inside the premises due to the thick walls.

Great location, right in the heart of shopping and restaurants. Close to the cruise ship ports. The bed is firm.

Good location , clean , nice staff , delicious breakfast! The hotel sign is not visible from the outside especially it’s located on the second floor and tucked in behind the shops in front of the building.

We liked the location, it was downtown and close to everything we wanted to see. Breakfast was awesome, the rooms were cute and the the staff was great. We liked the complimentary grapes and bread being available all day. We liked the rooms, initial air conditioning and bath/shower water pressure. The staff helped with our suitcases, when we had to drag them into the hotel from the piazza. We liked the homemade lucky horns they gave all of us at checkout. FANTASTIC STAFF at Chiaja Hotel de Charme 1. BAGS. Unloading/loading bags issues: We had 10 adults and 4 children (7 rooms) and we didn't know that the two minivans we hired were not allowed to unload our bags at the entrance of the hotel. We had to drag all the suitcases, carry-ons, strollers, diapers bags, backpacks, etc. up to the hotel from Piazza Carolina, some 50 meters or more away, in the middle of the afternoon. We later found out only some taxis have special permissions. Also we did not know that unloading/loading is actually allowed before 8 AM and after 9 PM. This should be clear somewhere when booking rooms and should be prominent on the hotel website. It's important if you are traveling with a group, with lots of luggage! 2. AIR CONDITIONING was great until it stopped in the middle of the night. It was a hot night. Several family members more sensitive to heat in our group could not sleep well because of the warm temperature, when the air conditioning stopped and the air was not cold. The key was inserted. I am not sure if the hotel is aware of this, or if they were lowering the air to save money, or something malfunctioned in certain hotel rooms. I would have complained but I did not know this until we had already left. It was a hectic morning. We only stayed one night. 3. HAIR CONDITIONER. Minor but important: there was NO HAIR CONDITIONER in the bathroom. Shampoo and body soap were available but no conditioner. My hair was a messy clump after showering, i had a hard time brushing on a busy check-out morning, I did not realize there was no conditioner. Hotels should make sure it is available. I am not sure if they had some, it was too late to ask for it, since we stayed one night only. Just wanted to alert others. 4. TOILET PAPER. There was one half-roll of toilet paper in the dispenser and no backup roll. There should always be a 2nd roll. Luckily I asked for an extra roll before going to bed. We definitely ran out of the first one.

Dimly lit rooms with an odd layout. Air conditioning didn’t work. Not a friendly or warm feeling. The courtyard it’s located in is dark and dirty. Expensive for what you get

I loved that there was a bathtub! The room smelled like cigarettes - but once in the room for a while we stopped noticing.

Beautiful, extremely convenient & safe location. Staff was very responsive and helpful.

Good location next to Chiaia neighborhood. Was also quiet on pedestrian street. Good air conditioning in the rooms. Felt a little worn down.
