Boutique My room was a bit dusty

Very colorful decor. Comfortable and cozy rooms. Great light. Wonderful artwork and the staff were impeccable, personable and very friendly. Slow shower drain, however an easy fix.

As a solo female traveler, I felt welcomed right at the start! I stayed three nights. The riad communicates via WhatsApp prior to arrival. They organized my airport pick-up, which was helpful as I arrived in the evening in December after sunset; the driver and porter took me right to the front door and were both in constant communication with the riad's night manager. (Note: Taxis can only go as far as a nearby plaza.) I was immediately welcomed with Moroccan tea and candlelight vibes by Miriam, who oriented me to the riad, gave me dinner recommendations nearby (delicious!), and a map of the area (although Google Maps does work). Breakfast the following morning was a bountiful spread of local breads and jam/honey, coffee or tea, yogurt, and an omelette. Every part of this riad is worth taking a photo -- it is SO picturesque. My mistake was not planning enough time to just enjoy the riad itself -- it was December so a little chilly, but nevertheless I did not spend enough time on the beautiful upstairs terrace or inner courtyard. They can also organize activities at the riad like a massage or cooking class; my schedule was too packed to enjoy it, and I know I missed out! I did dip my toe in the pool/jacuzzi space and -- while heated -- it was still chilly to me. I would not plan on being able to swim in it in December. I did enjoy the fireplace at night! Overall, Berber Duchess Riad allows such a special Marrakech riad experience. I will always remember it. Miriam, Mohamad, Asha, and one other team member whose name I missed made it super, super special. (continued below in the "negatives" as I ran out of space) This was my first time in Marrakech and in Morocco. At first, arriving at nighttime, I was a little uneasy about the location of the Riad -- you do have to navigate through a couple of small corridors to reach the front door, including a building seemingly being built. I was so happy I was with the airport guide that first night! By the end of my third night though, it felt like "my" neighborhood and I learned this is all part of the medina experience. I also wondered if I should have picked something closer to the main square -- now that I've been there, I think this location was perfect. It's near the historical school and secret gardens, and most other tourist sites are within a 12-15 minute walking distance. I came to love that we were also very close to parts of the medina that seemed to be more where the locals shop/live -- I otherwise may not have walked through those areas and it made it very special. Also, it is a few minutes walking distance from a main street where a tour guide was able to pick me up via van for a day tour (organized on my own). I stayed in two different rooms while there and they were both uniquely special. One had a portable heater and one didn't -- perhaps I could have asked for one as it does get chilly, but with the cozy warm blankets they provide it was lovely to sleep in during the winter. If you get cold easily, plan to ask for one ;) They also had AC for summer, and one room had a list of local things to do/see and recommendations nearby. The riad is very quiet with only a handful of guest rooms, which is great to sleep in, but that also means that noises (and conversation) can sometimes be heard. It was never disruptive and there are quiet hours at night. All in all, visit this riad knowing that it is not a big-chain hotel with all its amenities. It is Bed & Breakfast vibes, made super special by the authenticity and warmth of the team.

Lovely, clean Riad with great outside breakfast and welcome tea! Spacious room. Lower score due to location. Very hard to find and a bit sketchy to get to the Riad. I would not feel safe to go there at night by myself vs. other Riads.

Beautifully designed Riad - as a designer myself, this is what drew me to the Riad! Very comfortable, well decorated room with heating which was greatly appreciated as the nights in January were chilly. Exceptional Breakfast, very warmly served and lovingly presented! Wonderful team who really strived to do everything within their power to make you feel comfortable and at home. The location - yes of course it's part of the adventure of staying right in the centre of the Medina to enjoy the romance of wandering around labrynthine streets etc. and I was aware of this before I made the booking. Thanks to the good communication via whatsapp with the hotel team the evening arrival was very smooth. They met me at the entrance from the main road so this was all easy and as expected. There is still quite a lot of building work going on in the surrounding streets after the earthquake. In spite of having a map and and data on my phone (which doesn't always work too well) I still got lost. As a female solo traveller I didn't really feel like going out alone at night - which is unusual for me, I have lived and worked in Morocco before and this is my third trip staying in the centre of The Medina. I spoke to other guests in the hotel (who have been returning to The Berber Duchess for many years as they adore it), who found the access was totally fine, so I'd like to stress that this is my own subjective opinion and on balance I had a great stay!

Amazing location, staff, and breakfast!

Beautiful Riad, tastefully decorated and with a family atmosphere It is not easy to find, however it is also part of the experience in the Medina
-
The ultimate riad for solo travellers - as a recurring traveller to Marrakech, Berber Duchess is my place to stay every time, it is like being in family in the most beautiful riad and it is the perfect place to work in tranquillity and meet cool people - cannot wait to be back there again.

The property is peaceful and close to everything. Recommend using them for the airport transfer as the place is a little hard to find the first time. We arrived after midnight so grateful they met us and made sure we arrived safely.

Fantastic Riad in the heart of the Medina, the location is perfect, a silent cul-de-sac approximately 5 minutes walking distance from the spice market and 10 minutes from the big square Jemma El Fna. The Riad is an oasis of peace, the quietness and the intimacy are just incredible, it has a fantastic design and every room and space shows great taste and attention for the details, I loved the courtyard with the nice swimming pool, ideal to get refreshed after a hot day wandering through the Medina, and the terrace offers the must stunning sunset view of the Medina, and I'd also mention the reading area, the lounge with the fireplace, everything is just beautiful. My room was incredible, comfortable, fresh, intimate, silent, the bathroom was also perfect. The staff are the kindest human beings, they take care of literally everything, they anticipate your needs and make sure you feel like home from the moment you enter for the first time, until when you sadly have to leave. The breakfast is just fantastic, a lot of healthy and tasty Moroccan food elegantly served by the staff. I can only recommend this fantastic place and I cannot wait to be back again here thank you Berber Duchess!
