Hotel San Jose is praised for its excellent location, unique vibe, and friendly staff. The hotel's design and decor, as well as the pool area, are also frequently complimented. However, some guests have expressed concerns about the high price, lack of amenities, and noise from neighboring rooms or the street.

Parking. Terrible stay. The refrigerator in our room made a loud, mechanical noise for about 20min at least 3-4 times through the night. It sounded like a lawn mower in our room, constantly waking us up, so we basically couldn’t sleep the whole night. It was an extremely unpleasant time and I would’ve switched hotels immediately if we were staying for longer than one night in Austin. As soon as I walked up to reception and said my room number, before I even voiced my complaint, the receptionist said “oh the loud refrigerator?” So clearly it’s a known issue, a common complaint that they don’t care to fix. It was 5am and he said just call in the morning and work something out with them. Also if your room is near the street you will hear loud noise playing late into the night — it was a Monday night when I stayed. Our bathroom windows face the parking lot and although they’re frosted, every car that parks and leaves shines headlights into the space. No curtains on any of the windows. The blinds facing the public courtyard/walkway do not feel private. I’ve stayed at cheap motels that at least provide curtains. The bathroom is bare bones. No water pressure and the shower temperature is either extremely hot or cold, no in between.

What the hotel could do better is add citronella candles in every balcony and at the pool. Tons of mosquitoes everywhere.

Fun, unusual concept, great location, helpful, welcoming staff. My rim was Spartan, especially for the price. Amenities were minimal and disappointing. Overpriced
- 5/5
Two tiny comments. My room that was end has somewhat weak water pressure; I'm sure that can and will be fixed. And, the coffee place next door, Jo's is funky and nice with great staff, but coffee is mediocre and oatmeal should be improved given high quality of hotel. THANK YOU. GREAT PLACE. I'LL be back!

Awesome location, quiet, cool vibe

Excellent staff, great cocktails on the patio (in Cue market Saturday afternoon), great coffee in the morning. Love this location and stay here every time I come to Austin.
- 5/5
Everything was good. It’s a beautiful hotel in a lively area. I will definitely stay there again if I am in Austin. The only problem for me was that they don’t have coffee machine in the room. They have free coffee in the lobby but I don’t want to get dressed and go to the lobby to get my coffee first thing in the morning. For a 4star place I would have expected to have a coffee machine in the room and I assumed they had it :( I should have read the amenities in detail:) also two of the bar staff were a bit rude. People working in hospitality need to be more friendly in my opinion. Other than those two the rest of the staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall it was a good stay.

The technology (tv and bluetooth radio,) aren't easy to get connected to your devices. I went down to the front desk and asked how to get it to work but she wasn't sure. Not a big deal but it's a low hanging fruit fix. Maybe include the instructions on how to get connected to both on the check in card?

Room was spotless. Staff was courteous. What stood out- the grounds are gorgeous. They left water in a cute carafe and nuts on coffee table after cleaning. What didn’t stand out- hot water in shower only lasted 2 minutes or so. But that’s okay, gave me enough time to wash my body.

Hotel San José feels like a tiny village hidden inside Austin, filled with laughter, warm light, and people who actually seem happy to be there. The lush plants, intimate paths, and small but inviting pool create a relaxed atmosphere that never feels forced or overdesigned. It’s the perfect blend of old-school Austin charm and easygoing comfort, and I can’t wait to return. Hotel San José has a wonderful vibe, but the prices have drifted into territory that feels out of reach for what used to be a simple, charming stay. It is lovely enough that I still go occasionally, but I would visit far more often if the rates were even remotely reasonable. Like much of modern life, it now seems priced for a world where everyone needs millions just to enjoy what used to be middle-class comfort.

The San Jose Hotel is in a convenient area of town, with free parking and stylish vintage decor. Staff are very welcoming, and the full bar with an outdoor poolside lounge is really nice for relaxing with a friend or group. There's also a cute outdoor coffee shop on the property, but I didn't have the opportunity to use it (closed the evening before Thanksgiving). Basic rooms are pretty small, but overall designed efficiently and fit the theme. Hotels with character are my preference over big corporate chains, and I'd stay here again when visiting Austin.

The location is unbeatable, just steps from South Congress. The robes were a fun bonus, and the on-site bar was great. We loved having access to the pool, and the 12 pm checkout was perfect. We soaked up every minute of our staycation. Even on a Sunday in November, the courtyard patio and pool were pretty busy. Our main concern was that the room felt like it needed some attention. The windows were dirty, which didn’t help an already dark space, and the older toilet caused issues with normal use. Overall, it didn’t feel like the elevated experience you’d expect at this price point. It seems like the hotel is leaning heavily on its great location, and the rooms could benefit from updated finishes. We ended up enjoying our stay at Hotel Carpenter more than San Jose.

The location is fabulous but what truly made imy stay fantastic was the staff. From the front desk to the bar/lounge - they were all great I was there for three nights and every single person there went out of their way to make my stay amazing. After requesting for an iron prior to arriving - Arrived to a lovely steamer already in my room. They all were super friendly personable and helpful. Needed a bit of assistance to do with my room and they didn’t hesitate to come to my aid and ensure everything worked out for me. The pool and lounge area is super cute and private. Loved my room location too and felt very safe and secure. This will Definitely be my go to when in Austin. A little quieter fridge for those that are light sleepers :) it gurgles a Bit loudly. Or maybe it was the air conditioner but no big deal. Got lovely heat for the cold nights and cooling for the hot days.

We really enjoyed Hotel San Jose. The property is very retro with a cool vibe. It feels very secluded but is right in the middle of South Congress. There are tons of restaurants and shops with walking distance. There was plenty of on site parking without the valet hassle. We had a pool day and there was a bar service there. The let us bring our dog and even had a bed and food and water bowls waiting in the room for her! Would love to stay again!

Sounds silly to mention but if you have ever been to Austin or any big city parking is a beast. Not so at Hotel San Jose with its on site easy in parking lot. After parking the pivot door directing you to the cool vibe lobby sets the tone for your stay along with a cheerful personable perfectly off beat staff. Sheets are soft to touch, beds strike the perfect balance of firm and give and the high polished concrete floors are delightfully cool under foot on a hot texas summer day. Stay hack: be sure to arrive in time to enjoy happy hour on the courtyard. To nibble and Bev under gracious oaks with quiet hum of nearby parties chatting is a delightful way to start your visit or evening before heading out Congress street. Hotel San Jose is ideally located for those looking for the non tourist standard Austin experience. Zilker park and evening bat flights are nearby as well as great eats, dive bars and unexpected shopping. Hotel San Jose is my go to whenever I am in Austin.

Very nice hotel in the heart of old Austin. Located just south of the Colorado river and easy access to Ubers, scooter rentals. Next to great food and music venues. My two major issues with the hotel were, 1. the key to the room. The key is an old traditional metal type, the problem with that is the "lost key" fee was $150. It literally made the trip one notch higher with stress because you are so worried about losing the key while out on the town. It seems unnecessary to have that kind of stress over a room key. 2. Is the night security guard whom seems to be way to aggressive to guest. We were approached several times to not make noise, don[t hangout in the outdoor court yard to enjoy a cigar, we even when outside of the walls of the hotel and were promptly approached by the same security guard with an unnecessary aggressiveness. For the cost of the hotel, I should not be treated by the "staff" as if you are the street drunk. This brought another slight disappointment in the stay.

A little oasis off the South Congress Road. An area with lots to see and do. The hotel is unlike any other. In a good way. Beautifully designed rooms scattered around leafy gravel paths and secluded pool. Hip and cool, relaxing and quietly upmarket. Def coming back.

We came to Austin for a quick girls weekend and really enjoyed our stay at Hotel San Jose. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The vibe overall was great. We loved the design and decor of the property and our room. The beds were comfy, we liked the linens, and the robes were so cute. We also appreciated the ceiling fan in our room. We enjoyed the location and close proximity to a lot of restaurants and shopping, and it was fairly walkable (we’re all city girls and are up for a decent walk to get places) to different attractions. The street in front of the hotel is pretty busy, but our room was at the back of the property and very quiet. It was pretty hot and humid during our stay, so the pool was a perfect way to cool off in the afternoons. It was also just a great area to lounge outside of your room. The courtyard bar area seemed to be a hangout for both guests and folks not staying at the hotel, so it was lively (in a good way). They also had breakfast tacos on Saturday morning that were delicious. There is a coffee shop nextdoor that is affiliated with the hotel, so that was great for a quick drink/bite in the morning.

My friend ordered a house bourbon double from a waiter, after being told they didn't have Jim Bean and asking for the house, she was charged $40 dollars which she didn't notice until later, the receipt said the name of a high-end bourbon so it wasn't rectified. The next day when she told the story to the waitress she got some relief and the The big thing though was the air conditioning. We were in Texas in May. The AC setting didn't go below 72 which for an environmentally conscious place is fine, but the reality was that the air coming out at night was NOT cold at all. In the morning it became cold which led me to believe there was a mistaken or intentional setting internally since at no time did the thermostat show anything but 72 degrees. To be fair, I talked to the manager at checkout and she was going to see if anything could be done and I will see what happens.

It’s worth about 1/4th to 1/10th of what I paid for it. The pictures on the website are deceptive. The room I stayed in was not any better than what I could find at a Motel 6. Don’t stay here.

The room was very basic for the price and most of the TV channel would not work. Also when I booked the room it was described as a superior room with multiple views, we had one window that was covered in vines that couldn't be seen through. The area was nice and there was plenty of things within walking distance. Parking at the hotel is not included and is an additional charge per night i believe.

Fun place and we have stayed there years ago. Our room was very noisy though. We were near the street. Our daughter was facing the pool and they did not have any noise problems.

Toilet not working. Had to use their public restroom u til it was fixed. No accommodations made to move us to another room.

We loved this hotel! A very unique vibe and fun place to stay! The location was fantastic. The only downside is that our bathroom wasn't cleaned very well. Everything else was wonderful.

Close close to sixth Street bars close to shopping on Congress Avenue

If you love paying a lot for an “Austin vibe” this is the hotel for you. You have to walk on a muddy path to your room and track mud into your room? There are no amenities, barely any light in the rooms, bathroom is not conducive for getting ready. Yes you are in walking distance to all South Congress has to offer but that’s about it. Save $200 and Uber over from a nicer hotel.

Quirky, funky, centralized. I've always been and remain a fan! Appreciate the touches and style, grateful for the pool and bar and above all else, the friendly staff.

I love this hotel and have stayed here multiples times. It’a casual, cool, understated hotel. It’s an anchor to S. Congress in that it’s been around for quite some time and remains consistent. The only critique I have is that it could use a little refresh. We enjoyed the pool albeit the interior of it needs some rework as it has many large chips in the finish.

The Hotel San Jose went above and beyond in making our anniversary stay very special. We were provided with a secluded room featuring a broad veranda and comfortable patio furniture that allowed us to enjoy the outdoors late into the evening. I also ordered rose pedals from a local florist and, at my request, the hotel staff spread them artfully across the floor of our suite. We also enjoyed our time at the pool and outside bar and seating areas. Overall, we could not have enjoyed a nicer stay!

The property is amazing. So relaxing and chill, we had such a great time. My ONLY issue is that the cleaning staff tried coming in our room three times before we were checked out for some reason. Other than that, fantastic.
