Gunung An Retreat is a truly special place. The atmosphere is calm, zen, and incredibly relaxing — the perfect sanctuary while still being conveniently close to the city center. The rooms are beautiful, thoughtfully designed, and very comfortable. Lots of beautiful small touches. During my 2-week stay, I also had to work, and the views from the room created such inspiring atmosphere. What made my stay even more memorable was the wonderful staff, who were always friendly, welcoming, and helpful. And of course, the adorable dog Berry who adds so much character and warmth to the retreat! I had absolutely fantastic stay and would happily return.

Everything was amazing! The staff was so kind, they gave us a welcoming tea and fruit plate and also a cute goodbye gift! The room was gorgeous and the breakfast delicious!

The rooms are very different from all the others we saw during the trip. You get huge glass windows facing a jungle and there is a waterfall on the territory of the hotel which you can hear day and night - it’s kind of calming..) The welcoming part was nice - they bless you:) The sleep was deep! It was a nice stay overall It’s a retreat so if you just need 2-3 days maybe you can choose something even closer to downtown. You have to walk from the road to the hotel 3 min down the alley - there is no car access Breakfast was not so good - I mean we did not expect anything fancy but there was like no choices at all ( it’s fine for us - we had breakfast outside)

I loved the room — it was on the upper floor with a great view of palm trees and rice fields. Spacious and comfortable. The hotel and grounds are well-maintained and charming. Great location — a bit outside the center, but surrounded by rice fields and nature. With a scooter, you’re in the center in 10–15 minutes. Breakfast is simple but tasty, and the staff is very friendly and relaxed. Just a note: the common areas like the restaurant and pool are also used by the staff during their breaks, which gives the place a relaxed, homey vibe. For a longer stay, a wider breakfast selection would be nice. I had a room with a kitchen — the equipment was a bit worn, and a deep clean would have been appreciated (though I didn’t request one). Still, the room was clean and very comfortable throughout my stay. There was really nothing to officially complain about, and I’d happily return — everything mentioned is simply meant as friendly feedback.

Gunung An has everything you need for a great stay. The included breakfast was always delicious. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I will be back in July. Prefer a door in the toilet room, but didn’t bother me because I stayed on my own.

Beautiful hotel with a great design, but beware! The hotel is stylish and beautifully designed, with a great atmosphere. However, I had an unfortunate experience—after checking out, I realized I had left my phone charging cables in the room. When I contacted the hotel, they simply said that nothing was found. It’s disappointing that lost items are not properly handled. So, if you stay here, double-check your belongings before leaving!

You should stay at Gunang An if you are looking to relax for a few days, and have good mobility with a motorbike etc (something you can also rent there). The reviews on Google and Booking saying it is mouldy bla bla bla are NOT true, its pretty damn comfortable, the hosts are very friendly and helpful. I do have some criticisms, but the desk in the top floor room was VERY solid to see the jungle area and rice fields while working in an Air Con enabled room. Its nice to be an observer to nature while not being over run by it. The retreat is more of a hidden hotel in progress than a super relaxing retreat in the typical sense, but we have no complaints and we enjoyed the stay & hospitality! Wifi was 10/10. Oh, and the JUNGLE AROUND GUNANG AN IS VERY HEAVY IN SPIRITUAL ENERGY - LIKE MACHU PICHU OR SOMEWHERE SIMILAR. Lots of temples nearby and on the property, and if you are open to that kind of energetic power, or have had trauma of medicinal experiences making you physiologically prone to feeling spiritual energy, this place is very special, specifically at night. Its more of a spiritual retreat than a place to go for relaxation persé. Its quite inaccessible and that is somewhat off-putting, the common areas are not inviting to hang around in during the day, the breakfast is very basic (despite it being delicious), and the entire property is still in construction so while it was very pleasant and NOT like recent negative reviews, it is also something I would keep in mind - the noise of construction that didn't bother us but might bother some. The main negatives (that is very reasonable given the location and type of accommodation): - Bugs in the room - geckos, ants, mosquitos a tiny bit, spiders, etc. This is minor, and overall the room was very well protected from the elements and the Air Con worked amazingly (The rooms are so big it usually isn't an issue but some travellers are super preppy, so keep that in mind if you are) - The price; it is definitely not worth the price we paid. It is worth 50-60% of what we paid maximum. I LOVED the stay and my wife did too, but if we knew how it was for the price, I would not have stayed here. Despite it being very positive our stay, that is why I couldn't give it s 10 out of 10...

Very calm and relaxing energy. cute pool to chill at. There was no mosquito net covering the bed, and Ubud is known for its high humidity, which attracts plenty of mosquitoes. If you're prone to mosquito bites, keep this in mind and take precautions.

The location was so quiet and peaceful, immersed in nature. The breakfast was very simple, healthy and tasty. The staff were very friendly and kind. The shower’s floor is made from wood, it was stained. Could be renovated.
