My family boasted how this was the best place to stay in Superior. So we booked it! Others since said its gone wayyy downhill. It was a long trip for us from Colorado and we really looked forward to getting here. We will not be returning next summer.

We spent our 5th anniversary there. The furniture in our room had seen better days, which didn't matter to us, other than that everything else was really good. There was a bartender in the lounge on Thursday night 6/11 with a unique name which I can't remember, who was great! We got in late, and decided to have a couple drinks before bed. He made us feel welcomed, and was fun to talk to. He seemed to really enjoy his job. We will be back next time we are in the Superior/Duluth area.

Stayed here while I was working for a week… the shower was unclean with soap residue. The bed sheets had large yellow stains on them. The carpet was so dirty with stains and dirt they need a shampooing. This place over all just needs a lot of help. I stayed when the price was reasonable but it’s almost not even worth $80 per night..

Everything was very nice. I’ll be back.

Requested a room change as the fitted sheet on one if the two queen beds did not cover the mattress. Staff quickly changed rooms, upon room change 2nd room was barely better.

We thought this place was a gem! Relaxing atmosphere, great location, food in the restaurant/bar was amazing! Julie was our bartender and was very friendly! Perfect Bloody Mary's and the homemade pretzel was outstanding! Rooms clean and old school Air Conditioner ran perfect. Yes, bathroom fan was really loud, but no biggie. We look forward to coming back!

Clean room, great food and bar, overlooking lake superior...also a yacht club next to it for fishing and sightseeing..Free Breakfast during the week

Staff were great. We didn't try the restaurant or pool. The restaurant is not open for breakfast like indicated in older posts. Room had not been vacuumed.

I liked the lodge type of feel the hotel had. The rooms are functional and might be in need of tlc in terms of upgrades to the mattresses and wardrobe. The room was otherwise clean and comfortable. I appreciated the black out curtains in the room which did help with sleep during travel. Breakfast wasn’t what I’d call continental; frozen breakfast sandwiches, cereal, yogurt packs, and sugary snack options. Staff was helpful and kind. The pool/spa were definitely well maintained and a highlight of the property as well as their restaurant.

Our room was dirty - obvious stains on the sheets, previous guest's fruit on the window sill, water spots on the mirror, toothpaste on the counter, french fry in the microwave, grime in the fridge. On a positive note, the hotel was quiet, the room had a microwave and fridge, and the pool and hot tub were nice. I had a reservation to stay here again on our way back through Superior, but I have canceled that reservation. I could overlook the peeling paint and old carpet. The lack of decent cleaning is inexcusable.

Good Location and amenities

Old resort with a lot of class!

We requested to have our original room changed because it was close to the pool and it was very noisy and it smelled of chlorine. The front desk staff had no problem changing our room for us. The second room was great! It was quiet and clean. The only thing I could complain about was that there was not much offered for the free breakfast.

Clean room ..good service…poor complimentary breakfast

I reported the condition to a staff member and they said they are all that way. It seems like the problem is widely known and yet still remains. It indicates two problems 1. The bathroom experience is substandard - greatly substandard - poor 2. The problem can be fixed. People are aware but there's an obstacle. Find the obstacle and eliminate it. Then repair or replace the faulty hardware.

The room we stayed in looked just like it did 20 years ago with zero improvements. Bath hardware should have been replaced decades ago--it sucks. Same carpeting and noisy HVAC system too . The beds were ok but the pillows must have been from a college dorm room. Very uncomfortable. There is an empty corner with a floor lamp and no chair---what?? We stayed two nights and staff did not make up beds between nights, just cleaned bathroom. That was a minor issue. The breakfast was the same style we saw during Covid: dry cereal, breakfast bars, coffee, pitcher of OJ, yogurt and cellophane wrapped mystery muffins. What a joke! The swimming pool and hot tub were nice but shows needed rehab. Pool showers had faucets that were broken. Get the picture? It is clear to a longtime user like me, that Barker's is in need of massive room refurbishment. Nothing has changed in over 20 yrs--nothing! Unless you are a boater, I recommend a different hotel.
