Connected to a restaurant with no private entrance so you need to go through people tables to go up to your room plus the restaurant is loud with band music playing so you can’t really sleep well

Only one warning: uber is not very keen on going there. Taxi a taxi, probably faster.

They have somewhere you can leave luggage but it didn't feel secure. Room was TINY. shutters on window did not open so we couldn't get any natural light. The convenient restaurant downstairs doesn't serve breakfast... We had an emergency one evening and contacted the WhatsApp number on the gate, the responses were completely unhelpful and WEIRD. I was sent videos of the man and kissing emojis etc, to think people like that potentially had access to our room made me uncomfortable. If I had bene travelling as a solo female I would have checked out of the hotel. Street noise is LOUD. On Saturday until after 3am.

They not allow me to leave the luggage before check-in time (3pm.)

Clean and comfortable rooms exactly as pictured, right in the heart of the Santa Teresa which is a vibrant, colourful neighborhood. The rooms were quiet and could not hear outside noise from the street or restaurants. The host was always around on site in case anything was needed. The restaurant below is absolutely fantastic! I will definitely go back and highly recommend this property. Everything was great, no complaints or problems.

    Great location!

The pousada is 7 or 8 rooms above the most popular restaurant/bar in the liveliest part of Santa Teresa. It was a great place to walk around. The bar has live music most days of the week until about 10 pm. We probably wouldn't have booked it if we had known that, as we look for more of a quiet retreat. However, there was a lot we liked about it. You really are right in the center of it all, which is very convenient. The room isn't luxurious, but the decor is cool and the room is spacious. The restaurant downstairs is very good and the restaurant staff are friendly. Although the walls are thick and the windows block a lot of noise, you can definitely still hear a lot of traffic noise as well as the live music from downstairs. This was okay any night but Saturday. The downstairs music went until about 8 on Sunday and 10 other nights. On Monday it was just a single jazz musician, but Friday to Sunday there is a full band with dancing. So, you need to be prepared for that. The thing that we were not prepared for is the fact that Saturday night there is a huge open air concert (Samba dos Guimarães) right across the street that runs until 1:30 AM. I wouldn't recommend staying on a Saturday night if you plan to sleep before 1:30.

I enjoyed every minute of our stay at this amazing little property! The check in process was done online very easily, and upon finding the entrance through the restaurant, which the staff was very helpful with, we were able to get the key to our room room without any problems. We stayed in room #6, the Lilac room. The room itself is a work of art, cozy, comfortable and well decorated, modern but still retaining the feeling that you are in a structure built in the 1800s. It had remote controlled air conditioning that worked perfectly, a nice wall mounted tv, and a large desk that was great for spreading out and charging all of our devices. It also had 3 cool lamps that gave the room a very pleasant atmosphere at night. Two large, red, wooden shuttered windows can be opened to let in the sights and sounds of the awesome neighborhood. We especially enjoyed this after our amazing dinner at the restaurant downstairs with live jazz music. It was so nice to lay in bed and listen to the band still playing downstairs mixed with the the ambiance of the street below. In the morning we had breakfast at the lovely little cafe that is also part of the building, and after we checked out of our room the staff was happy to store our bags in the office while we explored Santa Teresa and walked down to the Escadaria Selarón and the Santa Teresa tram. Also worth noting is that as Americans with very little Portuguese, we we're able to communicate with ease. A few of the staff members also spoke some English and the restaurant had menus in English, so it was easy for us to speak as much Portuguese as possible while not feeling too overwhelmed by the language barrier. We also didn't have any issues being dropped of or picked up by uber drivers, who are able to pull up right to the front door of the building.

Loved that it was in an old, renovated building in a very central part of Santa Teresa. The room I had was charming, quite spacious and surprisingly quiet considering it was above a bar/restaurant. The restaurant has great foo, by the way. The only thing I didn’t like was that there was very often no one at reception.

Cute room in an excellent location. Staff are super friendly and helpful, the food downstairs is delicious! Room is very small

  • Engine customer Oct 2025

Very centrally located with lots of bars and restaurants, nice decor, friendly helpful staff, safe and secure. Small fridge in room is nice to have. The only thing I didn’t like was the noise. Extremely noisy from early morning to late night from cars to people talking and laughing. If you are sensitive to noise, this is a definite no for you. Also room was right above the bus drop off and cable car path, so you have people right below your windows most of the day. It’s also above a restaurant, so you have to go through to get in and out of your room. That that didn’t bother us at all (and the food at this restaurant is very good!), but just be aware. Also, if you choose to stay in the Santa Teresa area, be aware that uber drivers don’t like to go up there much - narrow switchback cobblestone streets that are super bumpy, rough on cars, and difficult to maneuver. We always were able to get rides to and from, but you’ll have to wait longer and pay a little more.

nice view the room was sooo dustyyy you have to wash the curtains!! clean the sofas!! also, the place is basically inside of a restaurant, it’s awkward to get in and out of the room. there is no common era or something, just a room

This was a hidden gem in a great location with very helpful/friendly staff! We had a flight at 11pm and decided to book this room for somewhere to rest/relax for the day. Check-in was seamless and easy. Room was an amazing value!! Additional points for having an amazing restaurant downstairs with live music!!
