Reviews
The hotel has a prime location in the center of downtown Austin, close to entertainment and nightlife. The staff is generally friendly and helpful. However, the noise from the bar/club below the hotel is a common complaint, affecting sleep quality. The cleanliness and maintenance of the facilities, particularly the bathrooms, are also areas of concern.

Amazing location! Very helpful and friendly staff. Cool bar connected to the hostel! Bathroom facilities were quite small for the number of guests using them.

Great location, good privacy in rooms, clean and check in and out is super easy. I’ve stayed here two years in a row and i love it. such a great place and as a solo female traveller, i always feel safe. nothing!

The staff is really cool and friendly. It’s great to be connected to the downstairs lounge and bar, and to be so close to the nightlife and restaurants on sixth street and downtown in general. There were also a lot of events and outings planned, and a whatsapp group to stay connected! Overall, the vibe of this hostel is social and outgoing—but you can still find your spots to hang out, decompress, and relax. I thought the facilities were spacious, clean, and well-maintained. This hostel sees a lot of traffic it seems, so it’s definitely well-loved! I felt safe in my dorm, had ample space for luggage, and was thankful for the elevator when checking in and out. I found it really cool that the age of hostel goers was varied! There were people in their 20’s to their 60’s and everyone got along. The midnight kitchen tea debrief after having gone out and listening to live music was the highlight of my weekend.

Location is unbeatable - great food, great party - you’ll get there walking. Also it feels pretty safe. Also I didn’t expect the bed to be so good, everything was very comfortable and very clean. The staff were so kind since I checked in until I checked out. I’ll definitely stay there on my next trip. There’s a bar in the lobby which I enjoyed a lot - but I had some roommates that couldn’t sleep because of the noise. It’s not that loud to be honest - but you can definitely hear it. Music stops at 2 am, so be aware of it.

Great central location, staff incredibly kind and welcoming! They should definitely try to keep the common areas, like bathrooms and showers, much cleaner. It was pretty unpleasant.

Best location downtown near bars and clubs; staff were helpful; beds are comfy, and showers work just fine! Don't expect to sleep before 2 AM. It's very noisy. At 2 AM, the bar inside the building closes, and the street gets quieter.

Central location. Fun and welcoming vibe. Felt safe and cheery. It’s a bit rough around the edges and I didn’t even try and sleep until the thudding music had stopped at 2am

Nice enviroment, good location. I met amazing people whom I shared my stay with. I will stay again if I need to do it in the future. The room was insanely cold. I know some people in my room complained but apparently that is something that the hostel can't change. It was not only my room, it is a problem of every bedroom. I find the place a little expensive to be a hostel. In general I do not pay more than $50/day when I stay in a hostel of this characteristics but this time I had to pay $70/day. I do not know if this was because the Austin Reggae festival or it is common in Austin to pay this price, but I found it a little expensive. This was, however, the cheapest option nearby.

The Staff is very friendly, caring and accommodating! They went above and beyond for me. There’s a speak easy lounge adjacent to the hostel, game shows, karaoke, live entertainment to name a few or just chill. I have no complaints.

I had a fantastic recent stay at Firehouse Hostel. Everything was clean, fun, and friendly and the hostel is in a great spot to access everything in the city. Ana was particularly amazing and her bar crawl and events made the stay even better - she’s a real star!

Everyone here has been the most kind and most genuine and authentic and thank you guys so so much for helping me I don't know what I would have done without your help. It brings me to tears sitting out front the hostel. Anytime I have the chance and opportunity to be able to stay at this hostel again I will it is far more worth it than the price and far more valuable than anyone understands. Nothing

The previous person who stayed in the room forgot to give their bed number tag to the front desk, so I assumed they were still here, which they weren't, which ended up me choosing a bunk that I did not prefer. Not the biggest deal but was dissapointing.

This hostel was all around excellent - I’m shocked that it’s review scores aren’t higher! It was everything I was hoping for and expecting.
- 3.5/5
Most of the staff are friendly, the beds were comfy and clean, the other guests were polite and the toilets were clean. The shots were huge. I was able to barter and trade an extra night for a blender of the same price when I found the jar to y'all's blender broken. That was a major highlight. The openness to unconventional methods of payment is astounding. The huge map was very cool to study, I loved getting to speak with all the different people from around the world. Normally I only get that online. Ok I'm done, I promise to bring that aloe next time also. AlphaQuinnn signing off! Thank you SO much! Give everyone a high-five from me! Floor around urinal was covered in pee. The room was to cold for my comfort. Once under the blankets + my extra was ok but changing clothes was crazy. Just the bedroom though. The red headed girl was judgmental to the point of rudeness and disrespect when I was conversing about my plans. And the bartender with the glasses and long brown hair kinda dorky, started talking about some Spanish book about how to learn how to enjoy doing ungodly things that would violate this reviews terms of service if I actually said it. That was extremely creepy. I would personally never promote such an activity as I hear it is frowned upon in MOST societies....... I hate to be to the one to say anything but if those two worked for me well... They wouldn't.

Centrally located, staff was great and very accommodating. I am fairly new to the hostel world, but out of my hostel stays, it felt more like family. Always gathering together to do things, more of an inviting environment. I would highly recommend staying here. Showers are always clean, laundry room is a plus, it’s free and they have high quality products. Oh and did I mention there’s a speakeasy. Gabriel and Brannon are fantastic. Just missing a pool but there are plenty of places nearby that make up for it.

The location is great. The bus to the airport is a 5-10 minute walk, which was a factor in my selecting this hostel. I had some fruit for breakfast, free. Which was also nice. Staff was helpful. Facilities were mostly clean. I'd stay again and recommend the place. Nice locker. Nice bed in female dormitory. Female dormitory was stuffy, a noisy ceiling fan clanked which to me wasn't a bad thing. I like white noise. But someone (rightfully if they're a light sleeper) turned it off. I woke up humid and sticky. Otherwise, no complaints. Bed was better than I'd assumed. I liked the room.

I liked the kitchen, well equiped and a good place to meet people, the speak easy bar on the bottom level seemed popular. I also appreciated the bar meet and greet for socialising. There is also a great golds gym just accross the road. on the weekends the bar on the ground level was very loud untill 2am. Didn't bother me as on the weekends i was out and about anyway..weekdays were quieter.

Awesome hostel downtown ATX!! There's a bar area behind the bookcase with live music & great atmosphere (bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper). You get a $5 token to use at the bar at checkin. Beds are really comfy and have a locker underneath. They sell locks for $10, or you can rent one for $2/day. Beds have 2 blankets, 2 huge pillows, a towel, a fan, & outlets. Kitchen is stocked and there are a few places to sit & watch the downtown traffic. Washer/dryer on 2nd floor. Downtown is right outside!! The only con is there were no privacy curtains on the bottom bunks. Definitely recommend this place.

Firehouse Hostel was a fantastic place to stay! The location is perfect—right in the heart of everything, with easy access to great bars, food, and live music. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere had a fun, welcoming vibe. The property was overall great for the price! The staff were nice, as was the speakeasy/ bar directly attached. It was pretty clean (beds, bathroom) and maintenance issues were quickly addressed. The rooms did smell kind of bad/ musty/ humid, but just from the fact that there were 6 people in that space. I would definitely stay again!

The hostel is in a very central, great location close to 6th street. The check-in process was easy and they were able to hold my bags since i got in early. There is a kitchen area and shared bathroom with 2 women's toilets and i believe 3 showers. The room was standard fare 8-bed hostel but it was comfortable and i was able to take a midday nap before dinner. The biggest complaint: the hostel is above a bar/club, which might be great for hangining out-- but the music and vibrations were SO loud until 2am that i could not sleep. You could feel it in the room/bed. I had earplugs too so it was less about volume and more about not being able to get away from FEELING the music! Made for a tough time when i had to get up at 4am for my flight!

The curtains are not blackout, so it’s light in the room at night. It’s also quite loud- I was on the second floor at the front of the building, so there was lots of street noise during the night, as well as noise from the bar below. A girl in the room was consistently inconsiderate with noise (I guess this is the risk in any hostel, unfortunately). Female shower block seemed a little run down- it needs more space to hang toiletry bags/put belongings and every shower cubicle should have a basket to put your shower items. There was nowhere private to dress outside the cubicle once you’d showered. The area: within walking distance to Congress Ave Bridge, Texas Capitol, 6th St, bus stop from the airport, and Flixbus/Greyhound stop. Lots of homeless in the area, but I felt safe enough walking around on my own. Staff at the hostel were ok, but not overly friendly. There was no info on things to do in the area. When I asked, I was just told to look at what’s on the walls in the stairwell (historical images of locations in Austin)- wasn’t very helpful. The most affordable option I could find in Austin, by far, so would likely stay again just based on that. But it’s definitely a budget stay, and not one designed for true rest or comfort.

My first hostel experience was totally positive. Great venue, very well run and a great facility to meet fellow travellers. Will be returning here next time I stop over in Austin.

It needs some more privacy, maybe some curtains on the bed so the people doesn’t stare at you while your are sleeping. I stayed in some hostel that had some like curtains on the bunk beds and it gives you more privacy. Loud music till 12am maybe later than that, if you sleep early you may encounter some trouble there, since they have a bar and the music it’s loud.

AC doesn’t keep the building cool. Loud if you’re on the second floor with live band in bar. Bathrooms are dirty and lots of disrepair. Sink didn’t work, broken parts in shower, leak from the ceiling in bathroom for multiple days that they didn’t seem to have a plan to fix.

Some bathroom facilities were out of order and dorm room lacked ventilation. Staff was polite, but not overly welcoming. A nice place to meet other travellers though.

The staff here is very supportive and friendly. I met a lot of amazing people at this hostel and would recommend it to anyone. There are a few things such as the bathroom sinks that need repairing but besides that the showers and common spaces are generally clean. Would highly recommend this place because of it's affordability and how close it is to 6th Street (the party area). Giving this a 10/10

I stayed here for 4 nights and my experience with them was nothing less than great. The rooms were great and the common lounge area was perfect. The only bad thing I found was the men showers being extremely dirty. Looked like no one has cleaned it in weeks. They should have someone clean them ate last once a week. Other than that, everything was amazing.

The Male bathrooms on the floor were under construction and the second floor shower had zero water pressure! The rooms were almost spotless, bathrooms deffently, required sandals. Also, don't forget your room key after hours as the room doors shut behind you with zero access to a new key. Bar in the hostel is amazing.

I was in town for business and prefer the hostel environment to an isolated hotel room. It did not disappoint me, as my spare time was filled with lively conversations and discussions with other patrons as well as the friendly staff. I forgot to bring a padlock and they provided one for what I thought was a reasonable price ($5). Bed was as comfortable as could be expected for price point, and I was happily surprised to see that it came with clean sheets, two pillows and a blanket (temperature was spot on for comfort so I didn't use the blanket). Only thing to be aware of is if you have a rental car there is no on-site parking. There are half a dozen parking garages within a quarter of a mile, but the 24 hour price will exceed the cost of the same time staying at the hostel. Considering that most people are not here on business, I'm guessing that the parking is irrelevant. The location is possibly the best in Austin TX - it is smack in the middle of the historic downtown. You can easily walk to most places, and I can't imagine a more ideal location for anyone without a car. I stayed three nights and left happy.

We showed up to check in to the hostel only to be told by the maintenance person that they were closed. We had driven about 10 hours and were looking forward to checking in and getting something to eat. NO LUCK! We had to find another place to say. This hostel is in a pretty sketchy area of town and in the end we are glad it didn't work out but would have been nice to be notified.

It’s a great to stay, it’s affordable, It’s in a great location near the action, it’s clean, the beds are very comfortable and the staff is very nice and helpful. There is a bit of an issue noise because you can hear the street traffic, as well as people having conversations from outside. So bring earplugs that should take care of it. If there is one thing that I could contribute is that you should have girls dormitory, men’s dormitory and possibly a couples dormitory style setting. When I arrived I was matched with two guys in the same dormitory, it was quickly corrected And I was very happy about that. Overall I would stay there and would recommend others to stay at the Firehouse Hostel.

I truly enjoyed my stay it was my first stay at a hostel and this was a historic stay at an 1885 firehouse. The location is perfect and Racheal and Jared were exceptional at making you feel at home. The lounge behind the book shelf holds lovely live music and custom cocktails! SIMPLY A LOVELY STAY.

Here’s a fact about this hostel: It is filthy dirty. Like never cleaned dirty. Loud, rude staff and just very poor quality overall. Totally not worth the price. Can’t get over how dirty this place is. The room is small, stuffy & smells. Never again. ( I’m not sure who writes those good comments but this is the reality)

Great location. All the staff were helpful and friendly. I had a private room which was a converted loft apartment, so I had the whole 4th floor to myself! The bed was super comfortable and a view that I never wanted to stop looking at. The bathroom had a shower as big as a walk-in closet. Everything super clean and beautiful. Thank you to all the staff and fellow travelers I met along the way!

This place need some deep cleaning needed especially in the dorm areas. You could tell there was dirt on the side of the bunkbeds and I have no idea when was the last time they wipped things down. You could tell it was dirty especially because EVERYONE in my 8 bed dorm was stuffy the whole time we would be there. Everyone was constantly sneezing and coughing through out the night. I also felt like it was really expensive for what it was. This experience also made me realize how important sleep and resting are while traveling because it was hard to do when you are sharing a room with 8 strangers. Glad I did it and I met some cool people but would I do it again, probably not.

The location was great for experiencing downtown but, as a consequence, noisy at night on the weekend (Th-Sa). It is within walking distance of the capitol grounds and UT-Austin, which is why I chose this hostel. Bring flip-flops (shower slippers), as well as all needed toiletries. And, if you need to secure anything, bring a padlock for the lockable storage space under the bed.

Location was great but it's a little bit noisy outside late at night if you have a room facing the street. Privacy of the dorm bunks was nice (they were sort of half-boxed in with built-in shelves on the inside on both sides). I'm not sure if there was AC in the rooms but it was a bit hot. Breakfast was a bit lackluster (milk, bagels, small amount of fruit) but nice that it was available until 11am. Staff attention to social activities was really great, particularly organizing bar crawls and other things at night was really fun.

Staff was friendly and a good place to lay your head with a good amount of places to eat nearby.

The hostel is within downtown which it is great location for visitors to explore around downtown Austin. Quick check-in with free can of Texan beer. Staff are friendly. The room has stinky smell like someone has cooked greasy food. Many dirty crumbles around base of bunk beds. The bathroom smell so awfully. I have been travelling a lot and have never smell far worse than this hostel's bathroom. Toilet was so dirty that puts me off from sitting down and doing business. I went to State Capitol to use toilet instead as it is more cleaner than this hostel. And it's free to enter so use their public restroom for hygiene reason. And the shower was so dirty that puts me off from using its shower for two days till I returned to stay over my friend's place. Although I know it's crazy not to have shower for two days but it was so dirty and stinky smell that was so unbearable for me to have a shower. So the overall was okay-ish but wouldn't return to this hostel next time. I thought this hostel has a good review until I looked at it deeply and realised that some reviewers left wrong score with negative comment about this hostel. You should look at reviewers' comments first before make a reservation.

Friendly greeting, decent facility. Quiet time after midnight was marred by a loud bass beat until at least 2am, presumably from associated bar. Hard to sleep between that and roommate snoring! acknowledge that the last was out of hostel control! Thankfully I had earplugs but they did not fully block out either noise. Earplugs mandatory in this situation.

The hostel is situated right in the middle of all the bars and music clubs, and therefore it is extremely central. However, for the exact same reason, you can expect to hear music in your room throughout the early hours of the night. We stayed in one of the suites, and it is roomy and comfortable. However, (and I don't know whether it was an oversight) but there were no toiletries at all (not even hand soap).
