The property is done up very well.. location is great The front desk is not friendly. The rooms are old and tired. Hot water is an issue (imagine that!) breakfast is very basic and for a vegetarian like me ….. non existent. The level of frugality of the management is seeping in to every single area

The building, location, price and staff. Might need some renovation in the bathrooms.

It’s a beautiful property with a historical connection. The stuff could not be kinder or more helpful. Very nice room and a lovely pool. They also have a very good restaurant and had dinner there twice. Good location and very accessible to Marlioboro, museums and other monuments.

Loved this hisoric hotel, just beautiful. Like walking back in time, but definitely doesn't feel old or run down. Fantastic breakfast

Excellent property which exceeded our expectations. Very nice heritage hotel with excellent rooms, very friendly staff and good food. Will surely stay again. Everything was excellent.

The rooms were clean and the hotel was well maintained with a wonderful breakfast. There are two parts to the hotel and if you are unlucky and in the first part the traffic noise is horrendous. Ear plugs do not work. To be moved to the back they were going to charge more however after being at the front desk twice and finally moving at midnight they didn’t charge.

The lift was not working . Room n toilet vey small n uncomfortable.

from pulling up to the front door, and entering the hotel, I was blown away. I felt as if I had been transported back in time, with all current day amenities. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience, shared with my adult daughter and her friend. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, and cannot imagine why anyone would stay anywhere else. all perfect

The facilities - clean, atmospheric, historic building. Nice sized room that opened into the pool area. Excellent spa. Wonderful, kind, and extremely helpful staff. What a feast at breakfast - SO many options; we got to sample multiple Javanese dishes. Plus made to order eggs, noodles, rice dishes. We are so much the first day, we skipped both lunch and dinner. Learnt to moderate the next day. Cannot say enough good things about the staff and service. Got very hot in the hallways, even in the dry season! Should not have charged for bottles water when they told us not to drink the tap water.

Overall, this was a good hotel. The price was great, I only paid $615 for a weeklong stay. The room, though small and a bit outdated, was clean and had a comfortable bed. The breakfast buffet had many options. The hotel is located near the Tugu Monument, about a 20-minute walk from the train station. There is an outdoor pool towards the back of the building, but the pictures make it look bigger than it actually is. The staff were very nice. There sheets were clean but seemed old since there was a small grease stain on them. Since the building is so old, the water pipes are also old, and they make a horrible grinding sound at random times of the day and night, likely when someone in a nearby room is using the shower. It didn't last for longer than a few minutes, but it was very loud and annoying.

Pleasant. Historic hotel. Generally comfortable and attractive. Quiet room with balcony patio/pool view. Although well kept. It is giving signs that it is getting to be time for another renovation. Very busy/congested area.

So much open air space. It’s historic and beautiful. The staff were outstanding, the breakfast buffet was wonderful. The pool was gorgeous and enjoyable and there were many enjoyable common spaces to sit and relax. The rooms were a bit mildew/musty smelling upon arrival and it was necessary to keep the air conditioning on strong to prevent this smell from reappearing, however, understandable this is a difficult climate to battle musty smells in hotel rooms. I think the curtains in the rooms need to be replaced or laundered and this would help with the smell.

This is a wonderful hotel - the location is perfect and the facilities were terrific. We loved the swimming pool and the staff were amazing. The restaurant had lots of nice areas to sit and the staff could not have been more helpful. This hotel is just great - we liked everything about it.

I loved the property. It felt safe and welcoming. The pool is great. The water temperature was always comfortable even when the sun wasn't shinning. And it was so clean. From the room to the pool to the restaurant and the gym. And I cannot complement the staff enough. Everyone is always ready to help and genuinely kind. Ghita especially, she went above and beyond. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Charming hotel from the early 1900’s. Loved that the pool was set in the back, giving guests privacy and relaxation. All of the staff were welcoming and kind at all times. Linens were superb. Our first room was musty and they had sprayed it with a lot of chemical perfume I think to mask the smell, but it didn’t work. My guess is because the air condition had not been running for some time. The hotel was gracious enough to change our rooms and allowed us to view two rooms before moving us. In some ways the smells were the same, but not as intense. By time the air kept running the damp smell dissipated. This is our only complaint, but had the musty smell not gone away, I would not stay here again. Our friends room had the same issue. Overall, we loved the hotel, the food, the staff, the location.

We had a bad experience at another hotel earlier that night. We decided to leave that hotel and try this one. From the minute we walked through the door, we knew we made the right decision. World-class service all around. They even offered us a free upgrade. We then happily decided to extend our stay to more than one night. It's a long walk from the lobby to the room, but that becomes part of the charm.

Nothing. Everything is just awful. The room is unkept and the food gives me food poisoning. I had a very disappointing experience at The Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta. The room was rundown and poorly maintained. The bathroom was visibly unclean, with rust stains and heavy water marks throughout. It did not feel properly maintained for a hotel of this category. Even more concerning, my parents’ room had visible blood stains on the bedsheets, which was unacceptable and extremely disturbing. Unfortunately, the experience worsened after dining at the hotel restaurant. After dinner, I suffered from severe food poisoning and was in significant pain for four days. This greatly impacted the remainder of our trip. Given the hotel’s reputation and pricing, I expected a much higher standard of cleanliness, maintenance, and food safety. Sadly, this stay did not meet even basic expectations. I hope the management takes hygiene and maintenance more seriously in the future.
