Beautiful historic inn. Very comfortable in a beautiful location

Breakfast was delicious! The dining room was very cheerful and warm. The home's location was great and we enjoyed walking around Old Salem and taking in the local Famers Market and restaurant nearby. Because the spring pollen was just finishing, there was dust and debris all over the porches and outdoor sitting areas. It would have been nice to sit and enjoy the lovely weather if they had been cleaned up.

The hostess was very helpful and nice. She was very informative about the house and the area. She is definitely why I would come back there to stay.

Breakfast was delicious, hostess was very friendly, location was great! The room was on the third floor. The stairs were hard to manage because they were steep and narrow but we chose a room with two beds. The room was hot so we opened windows to cool it down and used two fans. The shower had a high wall to step into. Booking should mention these features for people over 65 or with mobility issues.

Sherie made an excellent breakfast. She also gave us a little history on the property. Location is excellent. The room was nice, bed was comfortable. We are in town frequently and will definitely be back. There is really nothing I can say negative about our stay. It’s a historic property so there were some things that were broken, but nothing serious.
- 5/5
Sherry’s hospitality was wonderful and Old Salem was very special!

We stayed the week before Christmas in a lovely room with fireplace. The house exuded holiday charm and history. Breakfast is beautifully presented and excellent. Our bed was comfortable. We had chairs to relax by the fire. While the bathroom was tiny, it was functional with enough space to put toiletries plus multiple hooks and towel bars. The inn is in the old Salem village so you are surrounded with history. The innkeeper,Cherie, will guide you to excellent restaurants and attractions in the area. We highly recommend this inn.

Great breakfast - innkeeper gave great suggestions for things to do in the area.

We made reservations and when we got to the Inn they refused to allow us to stay. Prejudice! It was inhumane.
- 5/5
Bed’s are a bit firm but not a deterrent.
- 5/5
Cherie was absolutely amazing, as were the accommodations. The house felt so cozy, and Ms. Cherie was a gracious and kind host. The breakfast was amazing, and the area where it is located is charming and full of life. We will definitely be back!

Cherie was an excellent host and the breakfast and charm and comfort of the inn were lovely! Thank you for a wonderful time for my parents.

Very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was wonderful. We will be back.

This was an awesome stay. Due to time constraints visiting our GD, I wish we had more time to enjoy this place. Cherie was delightful, and a wealth of information on this historic building.

Just about everything – beautiful building, great location, super host, great breakfast, spacious rooms, and very clean. Just a personal preference, but the bed was a bit too firm for me. My wife on the other hand slept just fine.

I had the most amazing time at The Zevely Inn. The innkeeper, Cherie, was engaging and made sure I had everything I needed. She highlighted a few of her favorite restaurants and gave me suggestions on places that would fit my interests. I'm already planning a return trip!

All was great. Nothing I didn't like
- 5/5
Beautiful historic inn.
- 5/5
The proprietor chilled our wine in a bucket with ice and also provided to glasses. Breakfast was very good and quite substantial. The inn was close to the restaurant we chose and also close to the art museum we visited. Some hotels and inns now have smart TVs. I wish the Zevely had a smart TV.
- 5/5
A new favorite! The Inn keeper was very kind and knowledgeable, she gave us great dining recommendations and attractions nearby. The room, the stay, the company, everything about it was quite lovely. NA

The host, Cherie, is absolutely delightful! She knew we were visiting our daughter and invited her to breakfast. She spent time with us talking about the history of the home and Old Salem.
- 5/5
The warm atmosphere that the inn provided and the friendly staff made the trip very enjoyable.
- 5/5
If you are ready to be pampered in the most lovely, historic setting then the Zevely Inn is for you! Our room was cozy and the made-from-stratch breakfasts served by the innkeeper absolutely delicious! And she was delightful, so welcoming and full of stories, but still giving us privacy to soak in every morsel of Old Salem charm in the home owned by Dr. Zevely. We're going back as soon as possible!
- 5/5
The Summer Kitchen room was lovely & spacious, and Sherry was a wonderful Innkeeper, serving up delicious hot breakfasts & great restaurant recommendations! We will definitely be back!
- 4.5/5
I am used to having eggs and meat for breakfast and not so much carbs/grains. But it was good. The price is a bit steep for the accomodation.
- 5/5
This bed and breakfast is located in the heart of Old Salem. The inn is in a 150 year old home and is very charming. My wife and I enjoyed a nice romantic weekend getaway here. The inn host was very friendly and made us feel very welcomed. The complimentary breakfast was very good. There’s a lot of nearby historic sites to view, and some really good restaurants located very close by. I highly recommend staying at the Zevely Inn.

My wife, our daughter and I had a wonderful one-night stay. The location and facilities are excellent, but it was our host Cherie that made all the difference. She was very kind and attentive to us, especially our daughter. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and will certainly return again.

Nice property and area

We had an outstanding stay at a Historic Inn (c. 1744). Inn Keeper Cherie was most helpful and a delightful hostess. Breakfast was outstanding. Located in Historic Old Salem. We will definitely return when we have more time to tour the Old Salem community and to become more schooled in the Moravian culture.

Excellent host
- 5/5
Amazing host! Felt like we were staying with a long time friend. Cosy room and lovely location. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again. Breakfast was Devine!
- 5/5
The inn was very comfortable and well appointed.
- 3/5
The rooms in this hotel are small and some of the equipment is broken or close to broken. Breakfast doesn't have much choice. The room was very clean and the location was great. The charges for this hotel are too high compared to other hotels.
- 5/5
Excellent breakfast.Gas log fireplace in our room. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a sitting room were perfect.
- 5/5
John and I enjoyed our stay in your lovely historic home.
- 4/5
This historic inn is lovely, comfortable, and conveniently located in Old Salem. There was plenty of curbside parking. We stayed in the Winter Kitchen Suite, which was well-appointed. As with some old buildings, not absolutely everything functioned perfectly (for example, doors were a challenge, but we figured them out). Cherie, the innkeeper, is also the chef, and she makes the best of a tiny kitchen. We enjoyed our stay. Recommended!
- 5/5
Sherrie was a wonderful property host.
- 5/5
Had a wonderful stay. The innkeeper is a delight and immediately puts you at ease and makes you feel right at home. Had an excellent nights sleep, plenty of hot water and water pressure. The homemade hot breakfast the following morning was delicious. Old Salem is wonderful area, full of history and I would highly recommend it and The Zevely Inn.
- 5/5
The Inn is very quiet, and clean. The outside sitting area on back of house is comfy and serene. The historic bldgs in that area are quite fascinating to see(all walkable area around the Inn) The BREAKFAST that Cherie made us was absolutely delicious. She served our coffee and our meals to us which was not expected but a great touch :) But the way we just felt like we were at home there, and the conversations we had with Cherie during that brief stay was something you won't find at a hotel. Should we ever come to Winston-Salem again we shall definitely choose the Zevely to stay at again!
- 5/5
Charming and in a beautiful location. While the room was small, it had every amenity to be comfortable and opened onto a beautiful porch overlooking the garden. The breakfast was fantastic and the owner could not have been more accommodating or friendly. We loved staying there and will again!
- 5/5
Disappointed my stay was not longer.
- 4/5
Our room was beautiful. Clean and comfy bed . The Innkeeper was very nice and asked about out dietary needs . My granddaughter was gluten and dairy free and Ms. Cherie was very accommodating! The weather was very warm and there was no air-conditioning . There was a small sliding screen and a dyson fan in the room .
- 5/5
A beautiful inn, super comfortable room, extremely thoughtful and kind hostess. I hope to return many times.
- 5/5
Very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Lovely historic inn centrally located in Old Salem. The inn keeper provided great recommendations for where to eat and what to do. She was very knowledge of area history.
- 5/5
Cherie is a warm and welcoming host. The accommodations were comfortable and located in an historic area, which was great for exploring.
- 5/5
What a lovely place this was to stay at in old Winston-Salem. Cherie's breakfasts are amazing, and hospitality is fantastic. Thanks so much for looking after me during my short stay. My room was a good size with a comfortable bed and cable TV. Cold outside but nice and cosy inside with plenty of space.
- 5/5
The Inn is a lovely property in a charming historic community.
- 2/5
It seems that the proprietor didn’t believe much in trying to be friendly or give reasonable service. She conveyed a relentless attitude of doing my wife a terrific favor in allowing her to stay as a (paying) guest. Won’t stay there again!
- 4/5
Very clean, The food was excellent but the property was in need of reapair.
- 4/5
Very quiet area. Nice breakfast and innkeeper was very welcoming. We would stay here again!

We enjoy B&Bs that are on National Historic Registry.
- 5/5
Will definitely go back.
- 5/5
If was a treat to stay at the Zevely Inn! Friendly owner who upgraded our room which was very appreciated. The Inn resides inside a city owned historical village which I found to be very interesting. It’s a few minute drive to downtown Winston-Salem and about 15 minutes to Wake Forest.
- 5/5
If you are looking for a charming, clean, and history filled place The Zevely Inn is the place for you. I loved the ambiance, decorations, and hospitality of the innkeeper. Cherie made us feel welcomed from the minute we walked in. She was friendly and helped us to our room. She made sure our room was cool as I had requested when she called me to confirm our stay. What made the 1 night stay unforgettable was the feel of our room with the beautiful quilts and comfortable bed. Not only did we get a good night sleep but since we had to leave by 5 a.m., Cherie left us sweet surprise to go. I will definitely come back.
- 5/5
Cherie the Owner of this carefully restored home was wonderful. You can tell her heart and soul is in it. Our room was clean and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was very good. The historic village that the Inn is located in was more than we expected. It was fun to walk the little town, visit the bakery and shops around the area. We will definitely be back!
- 5/5
We stayed one night while in the area to visit Wake Forest University. Cherie, the innkeeper, could not have been more welcoming and helpful, and her breakfast was top notch. Would definitely stay there again when in the Winston-Salem area.
- 5/5
Absolutely Charming in every way!
- 5/5
The Zevely Inn was a great historical property located within Old Salem. Easy to take the strollway to several great restaurants. The inn keeper is also a chef so breakfast was exceptional.
- 2/5
It's very convenient for touring Old Salem on foot (check Old Salem hours of operation). Unfortunately the staff was not very engaging and sometimes downright rude. We stayed for 6 nights and our room was made up once. The maid only did the bare minimum and that was only if you specifically asked for it assuming she showed up at all. This included changing towels, providing bottled water, toilet paper (one ply), empty garbage. The proprietor was having some health issues and did not have a backfill to help with breakfast services so we missed out on a couple of breakfasts. You're on your own carrying luggage up very narrow stairs which is somewhat to be expected in a B&B of this nature, but not necessarily advertised. There were no afternoon cookies as advertised on the website. Overall - overpromised and underdelivered from the get go. Another guest was so upset with the service that he got into a shouting match with the proprietor during breakfast that led to her telling him to leave. Very uncomfortable. I think this is a very nice set-up for a couple night stay for backpackers, but not conducive for longer-term stays.
- 5/5
Cherie is an excellent host -- very personable and responsive. She is also an experienced chef and gave us excellent restaurant recommendations. The property itself is in the heart of Old Salem and was the residence of Augustus Zevely, who was the mayor of Salem in the 1860s before the town merged with Winston. Lots of history, and very welcoming!
- 5/5
This Inn is really interesting and located in a historical area. Unfortunately, we were not staying during the time that Old Salem is open. If you plan to visit, be aware that for now (April 2022), Old Salem is only open W-Sat 10-2. However, it is an easy walk to downtown and we enjoyed exploring. Found a terrific restaurant too-The Old Fourth Street Filling Station. The Inn itself is beautiful, breakfast was fantastic and our room was lovely. The bathroom is small, but for one overnight it was great and exactly what to expect for a historical building. We would book again!
- 5/5
The Innkeeper was so kind and the best breakfast was served each morning!
- 5/5
We just arrived home from a wonderful stay at the Zevely Inn. Cherie was a fantastic inn keeper and made the best eggs benedict we have ever eaten! The inn itself was like taking a step back in time to a more simpler, relaxing time! We definitely look forward to staying at the Zevely in the near future.
- 5/5
Gorgeous property in the historic Old Salem area...fine touches and charm that only an inn keeper can deliver. Scrumptious breakfast with care and attention to dietary needs. They also do not use any artificial scents or strong chemical cleaners so it's safe for people with sensitivities. I would highly recommend the Zevely Inn!
- 5/5
Fantastic stay! Room was just right, working fireplace, Quiet, relaxing balcony seating overlooking garden. Perfectly located for visiting Old Salem, MESDA and 5 minutes from restaurants, arts district, etc in Winston Salem. Our innkeeper Sherry's hospitality was great, and dinner recommendations were spot on. We plan to return.
- 5/5
The inn keeper and her staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. The room was attractive and had good seating choices which is rare. The only slight inconvenience was the temperature. In the morning it was very cool in our room as the central heat hadn't been turned on yet for the season; luckily, by mid-day the sun had warmed things up nicely.
- 5/5
Loved being able to stay in historic Old Salem.
- 5/5
Excellent location, good food and inn keeper was very helpful

This was our first time at a B&B. We were pleasantly surprised. Keep in mind, the Zevely is a historic building. Our room was spacious, bed very comfortable. Bathroom was tight, but absolutely fine. The grounds were great. Unfortunately we were only passing through for one night but we have rebooked for our daughters graduation in May. Hopefully we will be able to spend some time on the porches and grounds. Cherie the hostess was great!
- 5/5
Beautiful 18th century home. Cozy, comfortable, clean and spacious. Cherie, the innkeeper, will treat you like family. Breakfast was homemade, hot, fresh, and delicious. Highly recommend and look forward to our next visit.

Cherie was an amazing hostess! She is a phenomenal chef and breakfast was an absolute joy each morning! I would love to stay again soon :)

Cherie and her team were amazing! They are friendly, proactive, and culinary masters! We enthusiastically recommend the Zevely for adults visiting the area.

The Inn is lovely and charming. Cherie and the staff were welcoming and accommodating. And Cherie prepares a delicious breakfast daily! It’s a bit hard to carry bags to the upstairs rooms with only one railing, the bathroom was small, and the toiletries provided (shampoo, soap, etc) could use a bit of an upgrade. But it’s good value and a charming place to stay in Old Salem!
- 5/5
Cherie is a fantastic host! And the room was great!
- 5/5
Lovely unique and historic area and home, being transported back to these days of such delicate and precious times...Sherry was just delightful and gave us so much history and info on the local scene, breakfast was just wonderful, thank you Sherry for your welcome and lively service.

The Inn Keeper was amazing and helped us feel at home. Her breakfasts were delicious.

My wife and I recently went here to celebrate our 15 year anniversary. It was everything we had hoped and more. The Innkeeper, Sherry, was absolutely wonderful, welcoming and made a great breakfast. She was also full of knowledge when it came to the local area and restaurants. The house was in great condition given its age. Everything was very clean and maintained. The house as well as the area was very quiet. We highly recommend this bed and breakfast!
