Courtyard by Marriott Winston-Salem University

Pool was down, room needs to be updated, NO free coffee or breakfast. Property needs to be cleaned up. Parking lot has multiple areas of broken asphalt.

We chose this hotel to be close to an event across at the college.

The hotel staff was lovely. They were so friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean but a little dated. Overall I recommend the hotel.

The breakfast arrangements need to be made clearer. The is no free breakfast, you have an option to purchase a breakfast. Which is a choice, but should be made clear. There was not even free coffee in the lobby, really!! The staff was great, room very comfortable, except no TV Guide. I understand the breakfast is a Marriot guide, the room rate was good, but the no coffee added a negtaive.

The room was very musty and dated. The pillows were the worst. Overall we felt the room was overpriced for the quality present. The staff was nice and helpful.

My brother had a bad accident and needed to stay here the night before he was picked up since he was unable to drive himself back to Atlanta for surgery. The front desk gal was amazing and very accommodating. He had a restful night sleep when he really needed it and she delivered him water as he was unable to move around freely. Thank you!

Location was great for the Wake Forest graduation weekend. They decorated it nicely and welcomed family members in. The room was another story. There was a dirty towel behind the toilet in the bathroom and when we went to shower in the morning the “clean” towel had someone else’s hair in it. When we asked for clean towels the front desk told us “later”. Also, for what we paid we generally get a couple of bottles of water in the room when we arrive at other hotels. The had things for sale in the lobby but it’s not the same as having the convenience of them being in the room. We also asked for cleaning after the first night because the place didn’t really seem like it was cleaned well before we checked in but they told us they only clean every other day. Best Western is across the street. I’ll be going there next time.

Everything was on point. The only draw back was. NO COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST. Especially for price on a room there for one night. I am a Hilton holder . There one receives complimentary breakfast. I was there for a sleepover due to my daughter's graduation at one of the near by University..The staff congratulated us and we did received a gift from them for graduation..Thanks

Front staff were very helpful. Restaurant staff were not very friendly and it would have been helpful to at least offer coffee in the lobby that was included in the cost of the room. Overall though was an excellent location for the concert we attended.

The property is not great. Bed was sunken in.

A continental breakfast was not offered. They had a bistro which was very expensive. My first room did not appear to be vacuumed or cleaned very well. My second room was cleaned a little bit better but had not been cleaned behind anything for quite some time. I had to use a microwave in the lobby which was really nasty. The refrigerator would only work for 2 hours at a time. You had to keep pushing a button inside the refrigerator to keep it cool. I waited for 15 minutes in line to get a receipt for my stay and was told I don't get a receipt because I booked it with Expedia. I was told I had to log on to Expedia to get it. Not a good experience for being a marriott!

Long day of travel only to be woke at 2am by a fire alarm. Nothing the hotel could do about someone pulling the alarm but management did not offer a partial credit or even an apology.

Room furniture (chairs, especially) need to be updated. Slippery bathtubs with no floor mats or strips are a lawsuit waiting to happen. Toilet is too low to the floor for senior citizens. breakfast should be included. Paint job and newer clean carpets were a plus.

The staff were nice and accommodating. One glass in our room was not clean. It had a brown substance in the bottom of it. Parking could be better. There is a yellow pole kind of sticking out when you’re turning the corner of the parking lot that could easily be hit. Other than that, it was okay.

Clearly they slapped on some paint and maybe wallpaper, moved in some furniture, and added the Marriott name. But it still felt like a highway motel. The paint didn't cover fully the old bathroom door, the toilet paper rolls were not properly installed (and therefore were unusable if you didn't want to risk the toilet paper falling off and rolling around on the bathroom floor). The check-in time of 4 PM is ridiculously late (unless you really are just hopping off the highway at the end of a day of driving for a place to sleep).

The room size, bathroom separated from sink area, good rug, clean wallpaper, comfortable bed, availability of restaurant on premises, very short distance to fairgrounds. A bottle of water in the room would have been nice.

Breakfast each day was great....having the hot meal option was convenient. The room had mold on the vent in the bathroom. We were switched and that bathroom vent was dusty moldy as well. There were no mirror in the bedroom area and no pictures or decorations on the walls. It was sterile like a prison cell.

We stayed for the night. Desk clerk was very nice. Hotel was very clean and quiet. Every person working in the hotel was nice. Breakfast was good at the Bistro and the ladies working there were excellent! So very glad we chose this hotel!

Toilet seat would not stay up. Bathroom door always swung open unless latched. Seniors like to leave the bathroom light on and leave the door cracked for 2 am trips. Call it a night light.

The landscaping around the hotel was also impeccable. I’m taking my time to write this review because I was surprised to see so many negative reviews on this property. As someone who has been in hospitality myself, I know firsthand that difficult people are those with negative experiences are the loudest. Just know that this is a stand out property: Top notch hospitality and whoever is managing it should be very proud. We will be back!

The beds weren’t comfortable and the hotel just didn’t have a nice feeling to it. The bathroom felt very dark and clinical. An electric socket was coming off the wall and when you turned off the ac is smelled like smoke in the room. Won’t be staying here again

We had a tour at Wake Forest so this was easy and convenient. The staff were very friendly.

The bed was extremely comfortable and there was plenty of walking room. There were 3 different instances where we found black hair from previous guests/ possible housekeepers (1 might have been beard hair but most likely pubic hair on the tile under the sink) and the other two were in the sink as a long single strand of black hair and a hair ball of black hair in the bathroom area itself. I have blonde hair so it is obvious that the hair did not belong to me. It was quite disturbing in that we did not even want to walk barefoot or shower in the room we paid for. We checked out around 8 AM which because we just wanted to go home and shower.

It was ok…no free breakfast. Staff was nice and room was clean. Disappointed as we wanted to walk to arena but couldn’t due to construction. Picked this hotel so we could walk but couldn’t and still had to pay to park at arena for the show.

Really disappointed in this stay and do Not recommend it. Hotel store was very poorly prepared for guest and many medications/offerings were out of stock. Very poor guest management—I had a barking dog next door but the noise was awful. You can hear every door close and person walking through the entire downstairs. I will definitely Not stay here again.

The room itself was clean and well-maintained. I did not like that the cleaning staff knocked on the door two and a half hours before check-out (I had just come out of the shower, very awkward!). I also don't understand how a $300/night hotel doesn't provide a continental breakfast. Check-in and check-out was easy and the receptionist was professional.

Not up to Marriott Standards. We had to beg for a bottle of water. The "cafe" had minimal menu and coffee was for purchase only. TV was old and the remote was extremely slow. The shower was so narrow that it was difficult to turn around and the door leaked. It was clean enough, but that is where it ends.

The host was very welcoming and tried to help us because we accidentally booked a handicap accessible room but to no avail. However, this experience could have been much better. Noise all night, noisy bed, we were in the room right by the kitchen so at 3 in the morning we were awaken by loud taking pans clanking and more and an array of other noises. The tv would not connect to the internet.

All staff were friendly and accommodating. We had a TV issue which was quickly reslolved and the staff even helped us get our cat out from under the bed and then he helped us block the small access so that we wouldn’t loose Mr. Dusty again.

The room was too small to accommodate the pull out sofa that we needed. The common areas were dirty with trash overflowing the trash cans and there was trash in the elevators. The lobby area is very small and too small to accommodate the groups that arrived making it difficult to simply walk through the lobby.

The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. The guy with the dreads suggested I try a restaurant downtown and it was definitely a good place.

I"ve been coming here for four years and watched the hotel go into steady decline; it's time for some updates; my room had a musty smell. The pull out sofa is stained and worn, I wouldn't sit on it or have anyone sleep on it; I was afraid to walk barefoot on the carpet. The refrigerator had mildew at the bottom. No free breakfast, No microwave in room.

I always stay at the University Courtyard of Marriott may it be visiting, family, or pleasure because I know what to expect from staff and staying there. I consider Courtyard my home away from home.

This location was not representative of other Courtyards. It seemed to be an older hotel that was taken over by Marriott. There were no mirrors in the room other than the bathroom vanity mirror. The water pressure in the shower was very weak. Our daily room service was good; beds made, all fresh towels, garbage removed. Probably won’t stay there again. Staff was nice and the diner area staff were also nice.

We had just left the same namesake in SC and that was a very nice hotel. This one was not. The chair at the desk was hard, the beds were lumpy and very uncomfortable and there was a scent of mildew or mold in the hotel. In addition, in the morning, thelight filtered through the wall AC unit. Then to top it off, the staff never asked about our stay or have any inclination about caring, once way or the other.

I debated on leaving a review due to me staying at this hotel quite often when in town. I booked a room for thanksgiving evening w/ my spouse and newborn daughter. Everything was ok as it usually is, until the morning. I heard a soft knock from what turned out to be housekeeping. It is almost 9am and checkout isn’t until 11. No time wasted, she proceeds to enter my room, the only reason I woke up was because of the security bolt. I go into hallway to ask why she is trying to enter my room and she states “checkout is at 11” ok then why are you trying to enter my room at 9am?? I would not have been so upset had I not had my daughter w/ me, but to just try and waltz into my room unannounced, makes me believe there were other motives. My wallet and keys are just sitting on the nightstand, we’re all sleep, since when is this standard practice? I know they carry a log of rooms that are occupied, why not start w/ unoccupied rooms? You can clearly see the door tag, so why are you trying to sneak in my room? I’ve never had issues staying at this hotel in the past, which is why this is so baffling to me, this was unprofessional and completely unacceptable.
