Location and easy to check in and out Pillows are like a brick. The facilities could have been kept up better, every faucet, sink, shower could use a good plumber, as well as every door can use a wd40.

Mixed reviews did make me worry about this place but honestly I had no issues, the place was always clean and tidy, the location was excellent and people were so friendly. It was my first hostel experience so I was a little worried but the pods are fab! I would totally recommend this place to people. The only thing is the front desk isn't manned all the time so this can make things difficult for those checking in

Capsule itself total privacy. Perfect location. The locker’s code suddenly doesn’t work. But there is a manual locker wherein i put my things and used my own personal padlock. No switch in my capsule (22, rm 203) that i can use for my c-type charger and laptop. Only usb type i can use
- 4.5/5
Everything was like I expected. Clean, nice hostel crew, capsule exactly like the picture. Would definetely stay there again. The only caveat is that the capsule shakes a little if someone is on the one above you :) . The neighborhood is also not what I expected, but the hostel is so close to the subway that it doesn't really matter. Also, in my opinion, I think I would feel safer if there was a lock on the inside of the capsule curtain.
- 2.5/5
Easy access from the Metro, clean bedding, private. Never once saw anyone who worked there. Check-in was almost a major issue as it was all through the phone, and arriving after a day of traveling, my phone was nearly dead. Capsules were made of a fairly weak plastic shell, which was cracking in multiple places. Was looking forward to the on-site cafe, but it was closed the entire time I was there. Overall a nice idea for the hostel, execution could use some work.

Friendly staff, great location, clean common areas and capsules. They also allow to leave the bags after the check out. It was slightly too hot in the capsule, had to leave the curtain up and lockers were quite complicated to use.
- 4/5
The capsule gave very good privacy and it was quiet to sleep. The bathrooms were shared among the whole floor so sometimes there was a wait but most of the time it was alright. The downstairs cafe is superb! Also the place is very close to a subway station and restaurants.

Smart nice room
- 3/5
The location was convenient. Around the corner from the yellow and green line. While the bed was clean, the room wasn’t cleaned very well. My locker battery was dead so I needed to wait for staff to return to charge it. And the storage that is offered before arrival is literally unsecured shelves in the cafe. Having stayed in many other hostels that were much cleaner, I don’t plan on returning to this one.

- 5/5
Great staff and service. Thank you.
- 3/5
The air conditioning inside of the pod didn’t work properly along with the outlets. I had to go downstairs to get a battery pack to charge my phone. Staff were incredibly helpful and receptive to it.
- 5/5
I was delightfully surprised that I actually slept thru the night. The only thing I would’ve done different is, I would have brought eye covers, inside the capsule, there are lights, which is helpful to see your way out, but for me, it kept me awake. So finally, I used my pillowcase to cover my eyes, and I was able to fall asleep. But only with white noise. I played it continuously from my phone, there is a USB charger inside the capsule, which is really great! There are also lights & a mirror. Plenty of room to move around. There are heavy, footed people that will wake up to use the restroom at night, that are unaware of themselves, so they tromp around, not realizing how much noise they’re making. If you stay there, be self-aware: if you’re going to wake up in the night to use the restroom, try to tiptoe out of courtesy for other sleepers. The white noise helped mitigate a lot of the noise! There is plenty of storage for your stuff. 2 pillows, clean crisp sheets, a nice clean blanket, the capsules are air conditioned with a pull down shade. (I brought a small blanket and wedged it from the top to add an extra layer of privacy. Lights don’t go out till like 10pm so light seeps in, especially thru entry point. The communal areas anre also clean, but not perfect, of course they are a little worn/used. Parking garage $20 flat rate, 1.5 blocks franklin d reeves center. Near metro too! 🤗

- 4/5
If you're planning to use the metro, this is a fabulous location! Staff are lovely, the Caramel Fay at the coffee shop is the best coffee I've ever had!
- 5/5
This was much nicer than I expected. It was very clean and had very a very comfortable duvet. I appreciated how close it was to everything and the coffee shop at the hotel.
- 3/5
Great location for commuters to DC attractions
- 5/5
Really like the idea of it. For a solo traveler perfect. Capsule is not to small, u have enough space. I’m 19 years old and I felt totally safe and welcome!
- 4/5
Too cold for no reason. I am uncomfortable at every floor.
- 5/5
All you can want (quiet clean place to stay at a great place) and more (pizza night, beer night, laundry, blow drier and ironing board). Great place to stay.
- 5/5
We stayed in a private room. The bunk beds were so comfy; I loved the super soft duvets!
- 4/5
The check in process was tedious and a bit confusing. No one was at the check in counter to help or answered the phone when I called to get clarification on how to check in. The location was great, the place was clean, and there was a code to get in the building and our room which made me feel safe, but no employee was around to help.
- 4/5
The only downside I noticed was that there are no outlets inside the capsule for charging phones, which can be a bit inconvenient. Also, the air conditioning could definitely use a proper cleaning to make the stay more comfortable. Some travelers don’t seem to respect others while sleeping. I was awakened by a loud noise coming from the top capsule, which disrupted my rest. But overall, for just a night it was okay.
- 5/5
It was everything I expected and more
- 5/5
The capsules are being upgraded and now have lockable doors instead of curtains, and charging stations / outlets that work well! Plus, lockers are now also accessible via the Goku app. Staff was helpful as always. Even better experience than I've had in the past.
- 3/5
No the ac was not effective at all whatsoever in the capsules.

- 1/5
Did not enjoy my stay here. Room smelled terrible of smoke and it didn’t look like the photos. I left just a few hours in. What a waste of money
- 4/5
The staff were very helpful and the location is great. I never stayed at a hostel before this and didn't know what to expect and my experience overall was positive. There was nobody sketchy or anything like that. The capsule was hot when I tried to sleep in it and there is no way to adjust the temperature or a fan in there so I did wake up sweating every morning. Also, it can be hard to sleep with people coming in and out and everyone was quiet during the quiet hours (12pm-8am) but after like 9am it could be noisy but usually not for too long. The outlets in the capsule were usb-a and not usb-c so I couldn't charge my iphone in the capsule but there are other outlets in the lobby/bathrooms/etc. that I used. I am tall too so sometimes my feet would hit the little curtain thing and it would roll up. The bathrooms were clean, the water was hot when I showered and they had listerine, towels, washcloths and 3 in 1 body wash available. The locker in my room didn't really work and wouldn't let me create my own passcode and would just lock so I didn't use it. I left my things in the my capsule while I was out or right outside of it on the floor when I was asleep which I was worried about but nothing was stolen.
- 5/5
Really liked the ladies staying in the same room, very nice and fun. I get to meet wonderful people each time I stay there.
- 5/5
Very good
- 5/5
Caroline was most gracious & helpful, particularly on arrival. As the elevator was broken, she took my bags up to the 3rd floor, which was great as I am recovering from a fractured arm. The woman barista this morning was pleasant. The staff really made my stay very good!
- 2/5
I was placed in a mixed gender dorm room when I booked a male only dorm room. The hot water in the showers ran out after 3 to 4 minutes. Pod charger didn’t work and couldn’t adjust the temperature in the pods and they get hot. My experience wasn’t overall bad but wouldn’t stay for more than one night, I would only book it if I had a layover in the city.
- 5/5
The staff was super lovely and sweet
- 4/5
The air in the capsule was too hot, I did not find a way to reduce the temperature, thus was swetting the whole night, and did get a deep sleep ...
- 5/5
Very nice staff
- 5/5
Really like to ask the balcony and it's within walking distance of the White House, the national Mall, Lincoln memorial etc.
- 5/5
Everything was super nice and clean
- 5/5
My stag was quiet, and the staff was kind and helpful. It was nice having coffee right downstairs, and the hostel is within walking distance of pretty much anything you might want. Their website mentions parking is tricky, street parking it $60+ a night, but I parked overnight at a garage about two blocks away for $20/night. I will stay here again.
- 5/5
Convenient. It’s lovely there. Thank you
- 4/5
I haven't done a hostel in 30 years. It's interesting and kind of fun.
- 1/5
I never got to stay here. They have a self check in that requires the use of a key app and a special code they have to send. They didn’t send it and this was even after I updated a credit card. They still never charged the card or sent me the update code for me to self check in. I was outside for 30 minutes and I tried to call the front desk number and I never got through. I had to go stay somewhere else. The area was nice and convenient looked clean and warm from the outside looking in. Very sad about this experience.
- 3/5
Facility is clean but could do with an overhaul, on site coffee shop not always open 😕 free pizza and beer nights nothing to write home about but a nice gesture.
- 5/5
clean room with clean air, very nice lobby/cafe with very nice music, very good showers.
- 5/5
Stayed overnight for a concert! Everything was clean and comfortable. Staff was helpful and I was able to leave my bags there for the few hours before my train arrived!
- 5/5
Excellent experienced.
- 5/5
Clean room. Easy self check-in.
- 4/5
Front door had me confused, I didn't know until the last day that it was open during the day just need to pull the handle up. Otherwise I had no problems with app for unlocking all the doors. Staff messaged me back promptly with questions I had, towels were always ready by the front desk. Rooms were clean except the air vents in the pods. Showers had soap, not sure if it was a all-in-one or what since there was only one dispenser, but it works in a pinch. I'm so glad there was blow-dryers. Fridge was a plus but wish there were some untensils. Metro is right around the corner, very convenient.
- 4/5
nice
- 5/5
Great price and location
- 4/5
The room was nice and came with a balcony. The staff were very nice. Check-in and check-out were super easy (done via an app).
- 3/5
It was privacy within a shared room of 8 people. Good for an overnight.
- 3/5
Having no one at check in was super lame. I had no idea how anything worked and I had to ask the barista. The iPad also just didn’t work and took 20+ minutes to check myself in. Other than that it was fine.
- 4/5
Great value and location. It could use some refreshing, and there really need to be hooks or shelves of some sort in the bathrooms. But overall I felt comfortable, safe, and welcome. The staff, when on site, were helpful and friendly. The other guests were respectful and conscientious. Would stay again.
- 5/5
I absolutely loved my stay at the U street capsule! It was super clean and super convenient for my one night in town for a concert. The bathroom and shower area is impressively clean and stocked. The coffee shop there was amazing. My only complaint is my capsule outlets didn’t work nor did my assigned locker also recommend a general temp of 65 instead of 70
- 5/5
Nice
- 5/5
It was everything I needed. A comfortable bed and pillow, privacy pods, clean area and bathrooms and showers with hot water, free drinking water, lockers, a fridge and microwave available. So close to the metro, close to restaurants stores etc. affordable! Great value overall and highly recommend
- 5/5
For what you pay for a typical pod, this was pretty nice! The pods were a decent size even for someone plus size. If you're just needing to stay for a short stay and don't need to really spend most of the time at the hotel, this is perfect. There is even a sitting area in the lobby and a rack to put your luggage there early if you're there before check in. My pod was nice and clean and the mattress was comfortable. The plastic has some cosmetic cracks here and there but other than that the pod felt safe and the dorms feel really safe as well.
- 5/5
Great location and great for a quick stay
- 5/5
Very easy , friendly and comfortable for short term use
- 4/5
Loved almost everything about my stay! The only thing was the location of the showers was awkward, and communal dorms will always have their drawbacks, but that’s what I signed up for. Everyone was lovely, the facilities were great, and loved that each dorm and front door was locked.
- 5/5
Love the location, close to the metro or walking distance to pretty much everything ( good restaurants, bars, beauty stores). Really like Carolina's genuine desire to help and make our stay a memorable one. Will return next time I head to DC!
- 5/5
A great stay. Loved it. Matthew Cowan.
- 4/5
Every thing was good,
- 4/5
Note that you need a different confirmation code to self check-in, the one from expedia does not work, use the other one, the AI agent did not understand what i was asking, I had to get connected with a real person to solve this problem.
- 4/5
I liked its proximity to Washington DC downtown
- 5/5
I missed my train in DC, and decided to give this place a try. and for certain, I will be back again.
- 4/5
For a short stay this place is perfect. Great surroundings, dining options, staff, transportation, and helpful staff. The place had great amenities and staff.
- 5/5
loved it!
- 5/5
the metro underground. A Creap shop is on the corner (nutella and bannana) . Super extra cleam, gracious other guests. Super quite and reapectful. I highly reccomend . Download their app for questions and access. Excellent Security
- 3/5
Its ok to say for one day but not very comfortable more than that.
- 5/5
I’ve definitely found my go to spot for dc ! I absolutely love it ❤️
- 2/5
You get what you pay for.
- 1/5
I got there late and was tired I tried to get checked in and no one was available fell asleep in the couch woke up hour later and was so tired I fell asleep in the basement where finally they thought I was trespassing and came and saw I had a reservation and finally checked me in my room 4 hours after I arrived at front desk
- 3/5
Bugs everywhere …
- 4/5
Wish every pod had a/c but overall it’s a really good deal
- 4/5
Over all was a nice place, but the restroom area is literally infront of the front desk, where everyone can hear you, the showers are dirty and public and the noise inside the building is a lot, I end up paying another hotel.
- 5/5
Very clean. Great location right next to the Metro. I would gladly stay again.
- 4/5
People obeyed the rules and most people were kindly to me.
- 5/5
I was rather surprised with the layout of the room and the space in general. The cafe in the lobby was particularly nice. I'd stay here again when I'm in D.C.
- 5/5
The pods are clean, the showers are clean and the bathrooms are clean. All a thumbs up from me! Will def be going back as when I’m in DC, I only am in my room when I’m sleeping! So why not do a pod!
- 5/5
Nice vibes from check-in by Corey to baggage storage at checkout. Comfy, clean and convenient.
- 4/5
Con: AC was a little weak. They have it at like 72 but in the pods it’s really 75-77. This is just a little too warm for me.
- 1/5
Dirty, bad smell
- 5/5
Clean, quiet, good neighborhood, responsive staff. Overall good experience. Do remember to lock up valuables or personal stuff.
- 5/5
The coffee shop was great to have right there next to where you slept.
- 3/5
Very hipster
- 2/5
I did not and despite calling a ton and trying to use the remote checkin app it never worked to let me get in the building. I called the desk and checked in with them on the phone when I wasn’t able to be there in person from 6-10pm. They were really helpful and send me to the info to later get in the building. When I finally got back I found that the code I was given still did not work to get me inside. This was a really really frustrating experience and I felt like I spent half my day just trying to make this work. I booked last min which is probably part of the issue but I just can’t suggest this to anyone. The space itself was nice once I finally got in.
- 4/5
The capsule is a good size although people over six feet might like a few more inches. The capsules appear fancy in the photos but the features are standard - several lights, a mirror, two usb ports, two hooks, and a small table. There is no standard plug so be sure to bring plenty of charging options including a single to multiple usb charger. There is a roll down blind for complete privacy. On each floor, there are several private toilets that lock and a set of public sinks. Showers are in the basement but there is no lock on the main door. Individual showers are divided by curtains not locked doors. Bring your soap/shampoo as the provided containers might be empty. There are hair dryers. There are tables for eating in the front entrance. The decor is a little worn, a little musty, but everything is generally fine. The neighbourhood is historic and feels safe enough. Lots of restaurants nearby, trader Joes nearby, metro around the corner.
- 4/5
Pods, water filling stations, cafe seating and location were quite handy
- 4/5
Good
- 1/5
You definitely get what you pay for… customer service was awful!
- 5/5
Excellent!
- 4/5
The property it’s good the only problem I had is the capsule was very hot as soon as I close it. The area it’s great a lot of places to go and very lively at night… for a low budget trip was amazing..!!! Thank you so much..
- 4/5
Forgot a towel for shower
- 5/5
Wow, slept like a happy baby! Thanks
- 5/5
Front desk was very helpful. location was great and near train. everything was easy access.
- 3/5
This place isn't bad, it's just not for me. If you're in your 20's and you're trying to save money and travel; this is the place for you. But as someone approaching 50, this place was not right for me. It was very clean, located in a nice area and literally 50 yards from a Metro stop (U St). Never saw staff because it's pretty much completely automated.
- 3/5
I did see some outside furniture just tossed to the side of the front. I don’t know why these weren’t setup. There is a community garden behind the hostel, which is nice. I’ve stayed in a lot of hostels, from NC, to Colorado and California. This place has a ton of potential. It’s in a good area, convenient to landmarks, etc. I feel the staff could have been a little friendly. The lady at the front seemed overwhelmed, and frustrated. I felt as if I was in her way, just asking normal questions. And, idk if it was my age or if she does this for everyone, but I know how to use a digital key, and it felt a bit awkward with her walking me outside to demonstrate the key? Idk. Kind of embarrassing. I really love the building and setup. Hopefully, the staff could present more professional and friendly in the future.
- 5/5
unique lobby, loved it being connected to coffee shop, ideal for solo travelers!
- 4/5
I enjoyed my stay. The staff were great. I enjoyed the coffee shop on site.
- 4/5
The pod's fans did not work, it was a bit stuffy.
- 3/5
Staff ghetto and unprofessional
- 4/5
Good place for a short stay, could do with a bit of an update and deeper cleaning but nothing major.
- 5/5
I stayed at U Street Hostel for the second time, and it never fails to be a great accommodation for shorter stays. The cafe is perfect for early morning starts and there's ample space to work on the first floor. Will definitely book again when I come back to DC.
- 3/5
It was good until they forgot to assign me to my room when in fact I already booked one month ago. On the other hand, they were able to fix it and gave me the private room for a night.
- 3/5
This hostel has some perks: a lobby coffee shop with charging options, a convenient location near U Street Metro (green line), and Walgreens. The capsules feature 5" firm mattresses, privacy screens, USB ports (though only one worked), and are roomy enough for someone 6'3". Bathrooms include gender-separated showers, soap, hairdryers, and extras like mouthwash and Q-tips. However, there are significant downsides: unhelpful and inattentive staff, lax security with unattended and an unlocked front desk computer, and a public coffee shop lobby doubling as luggage storage (with only a camera as the security). Capsules, though spacious, were stiflingly hot, and lockers were tricky to use at first. Overall, the lack of friendliness, security, and consistency in addressing issues raised in reviews suggests this place has room for improvement—I wouldn't stay again.
- 4/5
Clean and comfortable and great host communication. Only complaint is that the sleeping pods don’t have working outlet to charge my phone, or at least mine wasn’t working. Otherwise, great stay
- 4/5
Good place to stay for one night
- 2/5
My experience was not good. The locker assigned to my pod was broken, and the USB charging port for my phone was not working. I informed the person at the front desk who was quite rude to me. I felt embarrassed. If you are in a shared room, one important thing is to have a safe place to store your things. The next day two other girls in the same room as me complained about the lockers that were also not working. The person who helped me find a locker outside the room for me and lent me a cable that worked. However, on the second night, when I used the cable the pod started beeping during the night and I could not keep my phone charging or use the lamp, because anything involving electricity would make the pod beep. Be aware that there is no conventional outlet in the pod and there is only one inside the room located in the hallway near the door (room 303) and the traffic flow. The mattress in my pod (36) was very uncomfortable, with a hole in the middle that marked the shape of the body. The showers are located in the basement and the access is quite strange. When I took a shower one night, there was only cold water. Three girls tried to use the shower at different times and the water didn't get hot. The location is great!
- 4/5
This a great if your looking for somewhere affordable and to hangout. Its especially great for college students. The women's shower was cold after the first day of my stay, no matter how long i let it run. But, other then that, the staff was great.
- 2/5
Just spend the money on a real hotel
- 1/5
Hot as hell. For some reason, they turned on the lights at 5:30 am waking everyone up.
- 4/5
The location was perfect for the event we attended for the weekend, The Hostel was very interesting, bunk beds were okay, the air vent was right over top of the bunk, sink was small
- 1/5
Very bad experience.
- 3/5
Mattress, pillows, and duvet were very comfortable. Hot water in shower was good. Wi-Fi worked well. Walkable to downtown and various public transportation options. Property was loud and not nearly as nice looking as in its photos. Room was too warm with no way to adjust temperature. Sink was too small to brush teeth over without hitting my head on the mirror.
- 3/5
Plumbing was being checked so there was no hot water for showers. Front desk tried to take advantage. It’s nice and very clean but definitely needed a few improvements. Usually people from Europe staying.
- 5/5
Great experience . Highly recommended..
- 5/5
Liked the little pod with some privacy. Good condition comfi bed with fresh smelling duvet and lining.
- 3/5
Unfortunately, my room had two men who decided to have a loud conversation in the room where 10 other customers were staying, no toilets available in the morning.
- 5/5
For the amount I paid, it is a good space. There was a locker to keep my valuables and the toilet are clean.
- 5/5
Quite, comfortable night
- 5/5
It was ok, two people started a conversation when they arrived, then they realized that they had to be quiet.
- 5/5
The location is a little while away from the attractions, but I walked and got the subway and was not an issue at all. There's a few great food spots less than a minute walk away too - including the famous Ben's Chilli spot!
- 5/5
Quite stay, comfortable bed
- 5/5
The check in was a little too complicated for me as it was online. But the rest all good!
- 5/5
Really cool hostel, very kind stuff, 💯 recommend
- 5/5
This is the second time I've stayed and it's the perfect location, at the perfect price, with perfect cleanliness, and overall AWESOME!
- 5/5
My stay here was amazing 😍😍😍
- 4/5
I got in the room and didn't know I had to use a specific pod. I just took one that seemed unused and reset. They told me later I took someone else's pod, we ended up just switching. Just make sure you get your room number and pod number to avoid the confusion. It was comfortable in the pod. The chargers in there didn't work. Also, you aren't allowed to bring food or drink in.
- 5/5
five stars
- 4/5
Overall, I had a good stay. The USB outlet in my capsule didn't work, but the staff was very friendly and helpful! I will be staying here again!
- 5/5
Very nice
- 5/5
Great hostel!!! Super clean and fresh. Lovely common areas and easy access.
- 4/5
just by the metro, mostly self service through steps on the phone as they have limited office hours
- 5/5
Such a lovely cute place. Pod was super clean, rooms are busy with 18 but so quiet.. the individual vents and slight hum blocks the noise. The electric lockers are a bit of a pain but the staff is super helpful. I will definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Had to try it out and stay here, and it was just a super nice experience. A very comfortable sleep, an awesome location with the metro station literally right there, and the most chill cafe/lobby vibes.
- 5/5
Quiet capsule watching movies on my tablet.
- 4/5
Comfortable bed
- 5/5
Was a nice and clean hostel. I took the option of using the capsule and felt safe. Unlike other capsule hostels your atual capsule doesnt lock. It instead had a pull don curtain where you head / feet are depedning on how you sleep but the capsule are all in a locked room so you feel safe.
- 5/5
Excellent staff , facility was clean, and the Metro was close !
- 5/5
Fantastic
- 5/5
Loved it!
- 4/5
Hospitable crew! Down to earth and intricate!
- 3/5
This hostel is great if you just need somewhere to crash during your trip, it's right outside of the metro, and close to a lot of landmarks & shops.
- 5/5
Easy check-in, quiet, easy to shower, use toilets. All in all great accommodations for the price!
- 5/5
i loved the experience of sleeping in a capsule, it was nice i’m absolutely coming back
- 5/5
Really liked the pods for comfort and privacy. It felt much more secure than typical bunk bed hostels.
- 5/5
Staff were very welcoming. Clean and tidy
