Reviews
The hotel staff is generally friendly and helpful, with some exceptional individuals providing excellent service. The location is frequently praised for its centrality and accessibility to various attractions and restaurants. However, there are consistent complaints about the cleanliness and condition of the rooms, with issues ranging from unclean bathrooms to peeling wallpaper and malfunctioning air conditioners. Additionally, the parking situation is a common grievance, with many guests finding it expensive and difficult to secure a spot.

I like The Churchill a lot !

Could not ask for a better experience lots of construction outside, but it was needed as the locals told me they’ve been waiting to get the Roads here fixed for a long time.. if you’re looking for modern decor this is not the place for you. This is vintage quaint, and very traveler friendly..

The hotel was a great stay. The staff was amazing and the amenities were great. They really make you feel welcome.

Breakfast was overpriced for what it was, but edible if you are in a rush.
- 5/5
The staff was very kind sand accommodating. We arrived early and they worked hard to find us a room that was ready.

The staff is excellent, the food is good, Perfect location for business or site seeing.

Great location, very convenient to everything.

Clean good hotel
- 4/5
Staff was excellent, room was comfortable and while there has been some upgrades, it definitely still shows its age (even as a historic hotel, I think things could have been fixed up a bit nicer inside, instead of looking more like things were patched over). Was in a great spot for my visit, and a short 10 minute walk to Dupont Station for seeing other things too.

I was very disappointed in The ChurchHill. The staff was not helpful, even cutting me off and not even looking up to answer my question of when check out time was. My room was never cleaned and towels Were not replaced on my fifth day, even though the room was available from 9:30 am- 11:30pm. I found the staff quite rude to guests. The hotel has no amenities other than some coffee in the morning. I wish I had stayed at another hotel.
- 4/5
Overall very clean, no freebies, no ice machine so you have to ask the desk clerk and the then provided a small bag. Sometimes they were very cheerful and sometimes acted like we were asking for the world. As far as location had to Uber to go to any attractions.
- 3/5
I was told that my stay would include breakfast. At check-in, they said yes the next day they said no. I will be contacting Expedia and the hotel to make sure of the information that was given to me.

the Churchill was perfect for our weekend in DC. fabulous location as you can walk to Adams Morgan and to Dupont Circle. great bed. wonderful bathroom. wonderful restaurant downstairs for morning lattes!! the staff and all the guests were so friendly. we will be back!!
- 5/5
Very nice hotel. A pool would make it even more perfect!
- 3/5
The property is vintage based. Not much for amenities though. No pool, so tub, parking is valet only and costs $70 a night. The restaurant had a nice tv with cable, but the tv in the room had minimal channels. There is a restaurant, but its over priced and the items, I thought were too fancy. I just wanted a burger. When I was there, there was a lot of construction in front of the property.
- 4/5
Was a pleasant stay. Lots of construction work going on at the entrance. Bed was comfortable. Pretty basic stay. No amenities to speak of.
- 4/5
Appearance overall is very nice Friendly staff Good location Comfortable accommodations Psy more attention to the details. I.e. bathroom mirror is chipped and some of the wallpaper is starting to peel Had breakfast at the property and agree with some others who commented it's pricey

Staff were rude. Check-in was awful and I was refused the key to the room for over half an hour as I wanted to pay my room charge in cash as not from the US. Put a dampener on the whole trip

Unfortunately, no one ever brought the washcloths. I called the front desk again, but the matter still was not handled with urgency or professionalism. Later that evening, I asked a hotel security staff member for washcloths, and he was able to provide me with two immediately. This was confusing to me because, in my experience, hotel front desk staff are usually able to provide extra washcloths and towels upon request. Additionally, I asked another staff member if there was a microwave available to heat up my food since there were no microwaves in the guest rooms. He kindly opened a room where the microwave was located, but while inside, I saw a rat run across the floor. What was most concerning was that the staff appeared completely unfazed by the situation, which gave the impression that this may have been a normal occurrence. Overall I really did not care for my stay and will never return.
- 5/5
The rooms were clean, and the staff was extremely warm and helpful. No complaints at all.
- 4/5
The bed was comfortable and the room (410) was quiet and spacious. Shower was a walk-in type (no tub) which was good, but the type of soap used made the floor quite slick. Initially there was a problem with the TV (loose cable which we fixed temporarily but should be looked at by the staff). Also, the right side of the blackout drape was extremely difficult to open or close.
- 4/5
There was no chair in the room. Quite surprising…
- 5/5
Additional credit card charge at the check out was a surprise.
- 5/5
Staff was exceptional, much construction work going on in the street out front, but went above and beyond to make use of our car as easy as possible, beautiful hotel and highly recommend.
- 5/5
The staff is polite and ready to help. Food and restaurants are nearby.
- 5/5
The staff were absolutely wonderful. Helped with an early check-in, gave great recommendations for area attractions and restaurants, and were all-around friendly and welcoming. The building is obvi an historical one and the hotel interior and design reflects this. The room (a standard double) was incredibly comfortable. I slept very well both nights. The decor was inviting and held to the vibe of the hotel. Gorgeous hallways (weird observation, but the lighting choices and molding were divine!). In-room fridge, nice size bathroom, excellent room size for two people, and I loved the additional space for the writing desk, which we used as a vanity. My tween niece was enchanted with the entire hotel and, really, so was I. I will absolutely stay again should I visit in the future.

Refrigerator needs to be replaced. Could have used a microwave.

spacious room, clean. amenities in the bathroom. Silent rooms. No coffee and water refill, you had to ask (but you were not charged).

We miss the wine reward. They have great coffee but they need to start offering it at 6am for the early travelers.
- 5/5
Such a fabulous and luxurious charming boutique hotel! The beds were heavenly, the lighting and mirrors available were helpful and created a lovely vibe. And my husband and I were so enchanted by the art and great 9th floor views. We didn't get a chance to try to breakfast and lounge though enjoyed a photo shoot in the lounge which worked for our weekend. It's located close to the heart of Dupont Circle so plenty of places to nosh and enjoy. Deborah and her team were so gracious, helpful with an emergency early check in request, and thoughtful. We'll definitely stay here again when spending the night in DC.
- 5/5
Great location 10 minutes as way from Dupont circle. I had a very large room with interesting old style decor. Everything was functional, and the staff was great.
- 3/5
A spacious room with lovely beau arts details in the decor but the noisiest hotel aircon I've ever experienced.
- 5/5
Great stay, rooms and all of hotel were exceptionally clean. Location good, 10 minutes walk to metro station. Lots of coffee shops/restaurants within walking distance. Only small minus were the beds are very firm ….. but then that is a personal preference. Staff very helpful and kept our cases so we could explore on our last day before our flight home. Will stay again if we are in the area .
- 2/5
Location. The property is old, unkempt and untidy. Also the fact that they charge room security per night and you have to pay before checking inn. This information should be made available before booking and plus the refund is not within the period they state. I have had to write an email and follow up on the refund.
- 5/5
We were happy with everything about this hotel. Friendly and helpful staff, clean room, location to events. The accessible facilities were hands down the best we have encountered. If we travel back to DC, we will be staying with them again!

The supervisor on the front desk was terrible, she’s not nice and very rude. She needs to learn how to welcome guest in a friendly way!! My husband was very upset with her because at first we asked her if we can check in early because we had plans and the way she responded was very off and that makes my husband very angry and so they got into a heated argument. She even asked where we parked our car and we need to pay for the fee without even asking if we already had a parking spot booked outside, we just need to park for a few minutes to unload our stuffs and bring inside our room because we already booked a parking garage close to the hotel but it takes us an hour to finished checking in because we changed room thrice due to very loud AC fan and the room smells really bad. But after we settled and finally finished checking in, she then apologized about how she treated us during our stay. Despite what had happened earlier, the engineer that checked our AC was very kind and polite.

The Churchill is an absolutely charming hotel in Embassy Row. Rooms are formally appointed with classic architectural details and very well maintained. Get the true Washington experience with all the comforts. Wonderful staff. Great location. It's a winner!

Honestly, for the difference in price compared to the Washington Hilton (that was right across the street and where my conference was taking place), I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't pick this place. Only downsides were slow wifi (just barely above 1 Mbps on average!), one of the two elevators out of order during my stay(yet never really waited long to catch it), and the restaurant/bar not functional one night (wife having a baby, I heard....that's more important!), and nasty road construction going on (not the hotel's fault), I really enjoyed my stay. Very quiet and nostalgic, and in a great location. I will be back if ever coming back to the area! Great value. Friendly staff!

But the room was nice and the staff were great. No issues and still gave 5 stars.
- 3/5
Checkin was smooth and the staff very helpful. A long train ride that made us 4 hrs late getting into D.C. was exhausting. Sleeping on a nice firm bed , a wake up call, and a nice shower and breakfast before heading back to the train for the rest of our journey home, made our Churchill stay enjoyable. Front desk called a cab for us, and even assisted us with access to the restaurant as the Three steps up to it were hard for me with my mobility issues.
- 5/5
perfect location in DC. Close to the zoo, restaurants and uber drive to museums
- 5/5
All great
- 3/5
Giving it a three star because there was no A/C in the room and it was quite hot in DC. The location was great as it was located right in the heart of DC. The staff was friendly and helpful but we didn’t realize that breakfast was NOT complimentary, so ultimately I didn’t even eat breakfast but that’s not a big deal. Overall, it was a decent experience. Location was ideal, but A/C was not working
- 5/5
The cleanliness, the welcome of the staff and the breakfast. . I didn't like this way of charging the deposit per night at a rate of $100/night. And so far I'm waiting to be reimbursed.
- 1/5
The property is not clean. Room keys do not work. Check in took almost an hour. Breakfast service is pretty bad. No one to give you water or coffee. Please avoid this property if you can.
- 5/5
Otherwise the room was very comfortable and the staff was friendly. I was the only one eating in their restaurant but the food was good.
- 4/5
This is a luxury hotel, appropriately so. but keep in mind that there is construction outside preventing sidewalk access. also, they charge $50 for early check-in, which seems wrong for this level of hotel. also, my room had some odd dead spaces in the layout, and a suboptimal bathroom layout. no big deal, but odd.
- 5/5
A lovely hotel in a beautiful historic building. We had a large, very comfortable room. We appreciated the à la carte breakfast in the hotel restaurant. The staff were very attentive and helpful.

We liked the hotel, I loved the smell when you entered the lobby, near the train, beautiful location. Restaurants near by and good vibes. The staff was very nice, kind, and friendly. The room was pretty clean. Nice and comfy bed. We had two complementary bottles of water. We didn't like the temperature in the room. Those 2 days we couldn't manage it, I tried to adjust the thermostat but it was stuck or fixed I couldn't bring it down. It was 73-74 degrees inside the room. The front desk person mentioned that it was only the second floor with that problem and offered us to change rooms. But the problem was in the entire hotel. Something with heat/ac issue that it couldn't be fixed immediately. We couldn't sleep well. I ended sleeping with a wet towel on me.

I’ve read other reviews so maybe this is specific to room 303 where we stayed. The bathroom was pretty disgusting. Water stains on the ceiling, toilet paper roll about to fall off the wall, the distance between the sink and wall would not be sufficient for a larger person, mold in the shower conditioner bottle and the shower had a strong sewage odor. We asked to switch rooms and was told there was not another room available. I would not recommend this hotel.
- 5/5
Location was very good and every monument was within the vicinity. We stayed there for 2 nights and overall it was a pleasant stay. They even arranged for a microwave at our request.
- 4.5/5
The room was beautiful. The staff were polite and professional. The construction made it difficult to navigate but that's not really your fault. Lastly I wish there was one larger trash can. One of the elevators was broken. The AC didn't work very well.

I have stayed here many times and usually have an excellent experience. However, this time it was not so great. The plumbing needs some work. Our toilet did not work and I assume because we didn’t get to the hotel until almost 11 PM but we didn’t staff wasn’t working. Therefore someone did not show up to the room until 12:30 AM. Housekeeping, or somebody should check to make sure the toilets are flushing when they review the room. Apparently that did not happen. I also saw some hairs on the lampshade in the bedroom. I had a suite. The bathroom was really small in the suite. I would likely not due a suite again. We were awoken at 7 AM on Saturday either due to construction or just loud noise. We faced the alley, which was not a nice view at all. You would think they would give me some sort of preference or about around after how many nights I’ve stayed there this year.!
- 2/5
The air conditioners in the ENTIRE building did not work on a 90 degree day. No soda machines, no microwaves, not updated but comfy beds.
- 1/5
In the room, the bed and the bathroom were both dirty. It was a warm weekend going up to 87°F and the AC instead of cooling the room down it was making it HOTTER! Worst place I’ve ever stayed in DC. I do not recommend.

They are not forthcoming when there are problems at the hotel. The first night we arrived. Apparently there was a Watermain break, which obviously is outside of their control, and yet the person at the front desk never even bothered to tell us that our room had no water. Furthermore, apparently the air-conditioning wasn’t working, and our room was at 77° all weekend, again no one told us that there was an ongoing problem until we asked. Lack of transparency when there are problems with the facility. Also a general rudeness of the staff at the registration desk.

--- I had a wonderful stay at The Churchill Hotel near Embassy Row in Washington, DC. The rooms were beautiful, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped with a small refrigerator, which was very convenient. A lovely touch was the complimentary bottle of wine upon arrival—it immediately made the experience feel warm and welcoming. The staff truly stood out. Everyone I encountered was friendly, professional, and incredibly helpful in navigating the city, which made my stay even more enjoyable. The on-site restaurant is definitely worth visiting—the breakfast was delicious, and the décor throughout the hotel is absolutely stunning. It really adds to the overall charm and elegance of the space. The only downside is parking. The hotel’s parking is $70 per day, and street parking in the area is quite challenging. I ended up parking at the Hilton across the street for $55 per day, which was a bit more manageable. Overall, I would absolutely stay here again. Between the beautiful accommodations, excellent service, and great location, it was a fantastic experience.

Locations and rooms Temperature setting. Heating was high during night ranging 75 to 85 degree F.
- 4/5
Even though in the description it clearly states they have AC, this time of the year they do not. So with the fluctuations of Temperature and being on a higher floor the rooms are very warm. We were told to just open a window, which are not screened. Had to ask for a fan, one was not offered as a solution when I called. I was just rudely told it states on the website that they do not have AC, which is inaccurate. So if you can’t sleep in a hot room at night you may want to rethink staying here. The majority of the staff at the front will not greet you in any fashion, I always greeted them with a smile and barely would get a response. If you’re looking for a place that is within walking distance to all of the monuments this is not in a location for that. We had to Take an uber every day to and from the Main area.
- 5/5
Nice and large room
- 4/5
The not so good: Small room for a deluxe king, felt like it was just a standard room. Dated and a little tired. Limited channels on tv. TV cabinet had broken doors. Shower head small and grubby, low pressure. Plastic disposable cups but no glasses or rigid plastic cups for drinks. Paper cups for coffee machine. Overall it was fine for the price but struggling to demonstrate its 4* status. Oddly called my room offering an upgrade 3 days into my 5 day stay. Nice offer but timed strangely. Would I go back, probably if I got it cheap enough as I used it as a base.
- 5/5
The Hotel was really nice and the staff were great and super helpful. It was a close to dupont which had a lot of stuff and the train.
- 3/5
Finally, our room (320) had a wonderful view of an oil tank outside the windows and a small parking lot beyond that. This was probably our punishment for going through expedia. At best, the Churchill is old, a little musty, and occasionally shows signs of neglect. Our toilet seat was missing a rear attachment and moved when sat upon. But the bed, shower, and hvac are always good, and we've never found the place to be noisy. It's a great location. For a night or two, that's enough. If money is no object, the Hilton across the street is a better hotel.
- 4/5
Great location, nice rooms though some of the furnishings have seen better days. The check-in was easy and the desk attendant was helpful. Elevators were fast. There was free coffee in the lobby in the lobby in the mornings and hot apple cider in the afternoon. There was only one thing I really didn't like - the barn door on the bathroom. It was hard to close and left a large gap between the door and the wall, so it didn't do anything to keep sound or light from the bedroom. Might as well not even have a door.
- 2/5
They had not "turned on central air for the season" yet as it was supposed to be cold the week after we were there. However, it was 80 degrees during our time there. The only way we knew this was by overhearing it being told to another guest in the lobby. Nothing was said to us upon check in. Apparently, their solution was a small fan they could provide, or we could open our windows. It was hot, and the open windows let in a ton of street noise at night. Someone outside was smoking, and that also came into our room. Poor solution. We won't stay again.
- 2/5
They do not have Air Condition and was never told this. Also, the beds were very uncomfortable. You could feel the springs. There is NO parking! You will need to use valet if you want to find a spot! $ 70 a day! Do not recommend this hotel for the cost!
- 2/5
It got up to 78° in DC during the time that I was there. Was told the air conditioner in my room would not be working and to turn off the heater would be my only option. I ask you who in the world would reserve a room with no air conditioner?

Big comfortable bed, easy access and check-in, and a good location. Attitude of the check-in staff and breakfast people was at best indifferent. We felt as if we were an imposition rather than a customer. Prices for breakfast were very high compared with the value received.

Enjoyed my stay . Would have liked to have been able to open a window as the room was stuffy and when I tried to use the AC it smelled like fried food . Also had a loud vibrating noise that started at 3am and finally stopped at 530am . It stopped when I shut a dresser drawer better … not sure why

I have been staying at the Churchill every few days for a month for work in the area. The rooms are impecably clean and well aportioned. I love the zoom nook in the Jr suites. One evening I had a small issue with my heat and it was fixed in minutes with a very polite and proffesional Maintenance technician I also find it smart that the staff always asks how your stay was. Overall a great hotel experience I would like to have the option to streaming service on the TV ie Netflix

I really appreciated how wonderful the staff is at this hotel. I had a great experience with a nice sized room. It’s very quiet which I enjoyed for sleeping. I loved the little extra room where I could work. I rate this very highly and I’ve stayed at quite a few in the surrounding area. They have a limited menu, but what I did have was good.

I’ve stayed at this hotel a few times in the past. I liked the privacy, cleanliness and options for parking as it is very close to many things I like to do in DC. I checked in my room, the initial attendant was very polite but after I checked in my room the cleaning team walked in as I was using the bathroom as the room was deemed not finished. Also, i paid $70 for valet parking and upon returning to the hotel at 1:30am the valet/security stated that he did not know how to operate the vehicle. That wasn’t really the issue. My issue was the next morning when I wanted to be refunded for the valet as I had to park my own vehicle. One attendant ask me why I didn’t just park on the street, another told me the payment was for the spot and parking the car on my own was not their problem. I was only offered a 10% refund which is a slap in the face. Not to mention, when checking out I was not asked how my stay was compared to other travelers when they were checking out. I’m pretty sure I know why. No accountability. There’s no reason I should not be refunded for valet when I had to park my own vehicle and walk back to the lobby at 1:30am.

The staff was not very personable when I was asking about the price because they did not have our reservation when we got there for some reason. Also, they make you pay an additional $50 for breakfast with your stay but don’t tell you that you only get 2 options to pick from… the parking is also wildly expensive $70 a day

Unfortunately, the Churchill utterly failed in the hot shower department. Even after maintenance claimed they fixed it, we never got more than lukewarm water in our 3 nights there. Beyond that, our room was spacious but the overall fit and finish was middling -- small holes in the couch upholstery, etc. But they do get credit for good in-room coffee.

The room wasn’t set up as promised, and when it was fixed there was no apology—just an attitude as if he was doing me a favor. Very unprofessional and disappointing.

Wonderful, efficient service. Even though I arrived around midnight, the assistance I received was excellent. Loved the beautiful art and the bed was incredibly comfortable. It wasn’t a concern for me, though I did notice a bit of rust in the bathroom that might be worth looking into.

Restaurant was closed the night of our stay which was disappointing. I also had to pay $70 for “valet” which was just us parking our car in the front and it was never moved so we paid $70 just to have our car sit on the property.

I had overall a great stay at this place. The staff was kind. The room was good. I think the room could have been better cleaned. Some visible stains in the bathroom. Overall, this hotel is a nice, affordable spot located in a great place in the city. Will have to come back when visiting DC again.

The positives: The room was very spacious, and I liked how the toilet was separated from the sink with an actual door. I appreciated the tea and coffee in the morning, but they should add a low fat milk option. Great location for people who want to visit Adams Morgan and the surrounding area. The less positives: Double beds are too small for two adults. One of my sons ended up sleeping on the chaise lounge as a result. It's striking given that there is plenty of space for two queens. The shower has no grab bars, and there is nothing to make the shower floor less slippery when it's wet. The labels on the shampoo, body wash, and conditioner are difficult or impossible to read, especially when someone isn't wearing their glasses during a shower. Overall, however, we enjoyed our stay.

Also, if an area with an ice machine for guests can be added that would be very helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

Aurora held her composure, kept her gentle smile and proceeded to execute each task proficiently with confidence. With the satisfaction customer. Except from one elderly woman whom seem to be set in her ways. Regardless of how ruffly that woman action was. Aurora patently waited until the woman finish speaking, and said how can I help you so you can be better served. She then fulfilled the woman request as the woman grumbles and walks away. I told her I saw stewardship, her kindness, and patience for other. This is what Leadership Looks Like. She proceeded to assist me and my daughter with reservations for our room. After that long line of customer being checked in, phone ringing non stop, and demands of other. She still kept the same demeanor. This speaks volumes of her character, and the passion she has for humanity.

we arrived at the Hotel early morning and pretty much aware that check in time is not until 3pm, the receptionist gave us a mean look on why are we checking in early, and there’s a $50 fee if we do she said, which is not a problem for us since we are exhausted and tired, after we paid, her demeanor completely changed. The room was very stuffy and has a funny smell so we opened the window to get rid of the smell, the bed and pillows are very comfortable, clean and warm, the bathroom is on a small side and no place to hang your towels, the staff needs to be more welcoming and friendly. We asked for our complimentary wine on the first day and the reception staff keep telling us that it will be delivered to our room, nothing was delivered until our 3rd day my husband finally went to the front desk and ask once again , the lady at the desk reach out underneath and hand us the bottle without saying anything 😩😹 construction noise is very annoying too. Won’t be coming back ☹️☹️☹️

The room was very nice although the thermostat did a poor job adjusting temperature. The overall service at the hotel was poor. The wait staff was extremely inattentive during breakfast. Additionally, housekeeping failed to attend to the room one day and when we called the front desk to request towels we waited over an hour and only received towels after a second call to the front desk.

The stay was great, but it's the part after that that's not so great. I stayed for 3 nights and 2 days while attending a conference. The staff during my stay were all very nice, and I honestly had minimal interactions with them, but they were all positive. Then I checked out digitally or remote, because we left at 5 am. I was staying there as a student, so I needed a 'folio' to be able to get reinburst. As I write this, I've been on hold for an hour. Now, I have never worked in hospitality, so I'm not sure how difficult it is to compile a folio. However, this will be my third call, and I've also emailed and messaged them through Expedia with no conclusion, solution, or even response. Each time I've called, they take down my information and claim to have sent it, and I've never received it. I was very happy with my stay, though. My room was nice, the bathroom was huge, the bed was comfortable, but now that I've checked out, I don't appreciate the dissatisfying customer service I've been receiving.

Not what we expected. The staff did accommodate the hot room with a fan. The room was so hot and they turn off the air conditioning in November for the season. The construction across the street wakes you up at 8am. I wish someone would have let me know or I wouldn’t have stayed here. No frills

Was awoken by a guy throwing a woman against my door at three in the morning they screamed for an hour. The cops were called and eventually showed up. It seemed like the incident died down by four but then by 5:30 they were screaming and yelling again in the same manner, I didn’t get a single minute off good sleep. When I mentioned it in the morning (I had an early flight) no one offered any recompense for the incident. I was glad to hear the woman was ok.

Be aware that random amounts will be taken from your account that the card you use for incidentals is associated with. I was not informed at any time that this would occur and the amounts taken out, three times, had a major impact on my trip as I had budgeted and did not anticipate I would have all these debits that would mean I could not afford to eat and had to skip a planned excursion. I was told the amounts were usually small but again was NEVER told the debits would occur. I have been trying to resolve this for close to a week now with an email having been sent, two voicemail being left but no one has responded to let me know how this would be resolved. The hotel is in a nice part of town, a quick drive to most “tourist” locations, the room was very nice and spacious, the on site restaurant was nice as well but having money taken from your account that has a significant impact on your trip, that you were not told would occur would be the biggest drawback for this hotel along with being informed as to when you’d have the funds returned which hasn’t occurred as of this writing.

- 5/5
The front desk was welcoming! Enjoyed this stay and the room was clean. But for some reason our toilet was clogged upon arrival lol. The surrounding area is nice plenty to explore.

Love the location, but increase in room rates and add ons may force us to look elsewhere.
- 3/5
Hotel is historic, which means it has character throughout, but the rooms are on the smaller side, cabinet doors stick, etc. Everything clean and comfortable. However, I need to dock them because they did not provide the welcome gift for gold members as advertised, and they snuck in a credit card fee. This is on top of the historic preservation fee, which I thankfully did know about in advance from Hotels.com. I've seen mom and pop stores do this but never a hotel. These are small things relative to the overall cost, but the bait-and-switch nickel and diming leaves a sour taste.
- 2/5
AC went out first night and was miserable no discount offered, you can hear street traffic and people just talking in the hall. Never got our bottle of complimentary wine. Front desk staff was great but would not stay again
- 5/5
Expedia did not mention an extra $30/day “historic hotel fee”. The property is nice, even if a little bit “tired”. Staff was excellent - from front desk to housekeeping. We really enjoyed our stay!!
- 5/5
I had a pleasant stay. My room was ready upon arrival and it was clean. The pillows were soft and staff was friendly and accommodating.
- 4/5
The only thing I should mention is a VERY loud air conditioner But we were very tired and made it through our nights there And also wine was helping too 😉 Thank you for your hospitality Oksana and Alex
- 3/5
Now lets talk abt the other stuff. The AC unit was making sooo much noise. I called the front desk and they send a maintenance guy over. He pressed some buttons on the AC setting, the noise got a little better but than it started again as soon as he left. I had to switch off the AC for both nights and it was hot in the room its extremely hot in DC. And there was a little door at the bottom of the bathroom which was not closing all the way. I kept on kicking it to close it. Did not wanted my kids to run into it hurting them. The property seems old. Closet door dont close all the way. The carpet smells really bad. I am a frequent traveller with 2 kids and i do notice these things. Overrall if i want to visit DC again. I will choose some other hotel. Thanks for the stay.
- 5/5
Great place. Would stay again — room was very humid / damp though. AC didn’t really work well

- 5/5
Elegant room, comfprtable bar, walkable neighborhood.
- 5/5
The location was great for the conference I was attending but also a great location for getting around DuPont Circle and Adam Morgan neighborhoods. Lots of great restaurants and shops around the area.
- 3/5
The hotel is fine, but it is a bit run-down feeling- new carpets and some fresh wallpaper/paint would go a long way. The desk in my room had food crumbs and greasy handprints from the prior guest, and it was not cleaned when I mentioned this to the front desk. Front desk staff were friendly, but I probably wouldn’t stay here again.
- 5/5
Convenient location, quiet room, walkable distance to nearby restaurants, the front desk staff is nice and response quickly to our request (such as extra towels, print a short document).
- 4/5
Shaaban a usher there is absolutely fabulous. He took our needs to his personal attention over and againHe
- 4/5
Property was nice overall. Easy to access by car but a bit far from the metro. It was out of their hands, but there was no water for six hours on the day that we were going to a wedding. I think they could have been more productive: communicate why there was no water, offer bottled water, found a way to provide buckets of water to flush toilets. The cleaning service cleaned our room, but the solution to the un flushed toilet was to just open the window.
- 3/5
The Churchill Hotel is visually impressive — the lobby is elegant and smelled great upon arrival. The room I stayed in was spacious and well-decorated. However, the experience was overshadowed by poor service and lack of hospitality. From the start, the staff wasn’t welcoming — neither over the phone nor in person. When I called to ask about the OpenKey app, I was cut off mid-sentence with a blunt, “It doesn’t work,” followed by them hanging up. At check-in, there was no eye contact or greeting. Instead, I was wordlessly motioned to the side, and when asked for ID and a credit card, the staff extended a hand while continuing to stare at their monitor — no acknowledgement or courtesy. While the room looked nice, it had a noticeable damp or humid smell. The hallways also felt stuffy and could benefit from proper ventilation rather than artificial air fresheners. Unfortunately, the lack of basic hospitality made the stay uncomfortable. I won’t be returning.

- 4/5
Beautiful, comfortable hotel. Only thing missing was a place to hang towels in the bathroom!

- 5/5
Wonderful experience
- 4/5
Wifi was slow and spotty
- 3/5
It was quiet but there was no housekeeping at all unless you called
- 3/5
Pretty run down hotel that shows its age. I didn’t get any room cleaning or clean towels for 3 days (they said they service rooms once every 3 days when I asked about it during checkout), the pillows and sheets were old and mostly beyond the end of their useful life with yellow hues and some permanent rust stains.
- 5/5
Nice area. Great hotel and value for money.
- 2/5
Rooms were too small
- 5/5
comfortable breakfast was fantastic
- 4/5
The lobby area is quaint with seating for a few if you have to wait for check in. The staff on duty during check in and check out were friendly and courteous. The room we had was small and right next to the service elevator so it was a little noisy. Aside from it being small, it was well appointed with bathroom essentials like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a hair dryer. The neighborhood was easily walkable with lots going on around. DuPont Cir was just a few blocks away and I felt safe navigating the streets on foot.
- 5/5

- 3/5
Nice rooms but really basic amenities. They don’t even have drinking glasses in the room.
- 5/5
The staff was very nice this is my fourth stay only thing that the advertised a free bottle of was not in my room
- 3/5
It's ok but they should have daily room service, the rooms are ok but not great. Need some
- 3/5
We chose this property because it’s was reasonably located in the city and the areas we had planned to be for the weekend. Understandably the hotel is historic; however, I was disappointed in the cleanliness. There was dust/dirt everywhere, on the baseboards, lamps, etc. The toilet was not the most clean either. There was a weird air condition pipe in the window in our room. There was only one proper outlet in the room, excluding the one in the bathroom. Apparently we should have had two complimentary waters in the room but nothing was in the fridge. They do not have onsite or day service available so any extras are at request. Probably won’t be an option for us again.
- 4/5
Love the bottle wine and tue efforts to make your stay happy. Unexpected final charge.

Upscale look though building may be old - well renovated and maintained.

My family really enjoyed Churchill suite at Embassy Row. It was a beautiful colonial hotel, very fancy and lots of pretty pictures from years ago. The breakfast was delicious. The staff was so courteous. The place was immaculately clean. It was so nice. It was a comfortable atmosphere when you first walk in the lobby. Scenery & decor as bright and pretty drapes and pretty chandeliers. It was really worth it. The lyft & my cousin took us around back-and-forth for my daughter‘s graduation and From dinner at Georgia Brown’s. Hotel located downtown so everything was nearby at our fingertips. We even went shoe shopping downtown. Yes we will surely visit Churchill Suites at Embassy Road the next time we’re in the DC area. Hat’s off to Churchill. You did a fantastic job.

Fading glory...a used q-tip on the floor from the previous stay that was never cleaned up; cigarette smell wafting through the bathroom vents; check-in desk attendant too busy on a personal phone call to say more than three words. Scuffs everywhere, but hot shower and clean sheets. In room air conditioner is a hulking mobile unit. Conveniently located.

The location is great for our needs and is right across the street from the Washington Hilton. If you are attending a conference at the Hilton, this hotel location is perfect and room prices are usually much better. My only issue is that daily housekeeping is not provided. I prefer to have the room cleaned daily as well as getting fresh towels, etc. without having to ask for them.

I enjoyed my stay here.

The Churchill Hotel was in a nice area of DC. It was pretty easy to get to with Lift drivers. There is about a two city block walk to get to restaurants. Housekeeping did an excellent job. Some of the front desk / door person needs to work on their charm being in the hospitality business. The restaurant in the hotel is nice, but mostly bar food and lacking in service. There is no microwave in the room to reheat left over meals.

Not friendly or helpful at the front desk.

The fitness center is small and somewhat cramped.

Hotel was in a great location for the areas we wanted to visit room was spacious

Staff seemed preoccupied and unconcerned about customer service. Shower leaked all over the floor. Toilet needed constant jigging inside the back to fill. Couch and carpet were threadbare.

The A/C system was not working. An engineer was sent to fix it but was not successful

That said, I did run into an issue with the air conditioning not working in my room. Initially, both the front desk and engineering were slow to respond. However, once the manager got involved, things moved quickly and I was relocated to a functioning room without further issues. Despite the delay, I appreciated how the situation was ultimately handled. For the price—especially compared to other options in the area—it’s a good, budget-friendly stay. I’d consider staying again.

Room only cleaned once every 3 days. No safe. No promised bottle of wine. Paper cup. Nothing to stir coffee with. Ancient powdered milk.
- 1/5
Poor service, AC broken and no accomodations besides a fan. Small bugs in the room.

The people at the hotel couldn't give us any information about the parking area. There were signs there that we didn't understand and the hotel people didn't have any info. They said the didn't know.

The front desk employees were not particularly friendly.

The room was great. However, upon arrival, there was no parking available. When I asked for suggestions on where to park, the front desk had none. We had to park a half mile away and walk back. This was not what we expected from a hotel.

Great location and very pretty hotel and room. No parking was available which made it quite difficult. A lot of hallway light shone under the door of the room, making falling asleep difficult.
