The staff was very friendly. The room was quite small, but it was super clean, everything functioned well, the TV welcomed me by name lol. The soaps and little in the bathroom smelled fantastic. The room was very quiet, and they had a white noise machine in the room. They have bag storage so after check out you can easily explore the city! I would definitely stay again.

The room is clean. A bunk bed for 2 persons. Not much space to open 2 pieces of luggage. Hotel concierge staff were helpful. The bar seems to be very popular. We like the convenience of having Walgreens next to the hotel.

The hotel itself was nice, conveniently located in DC's Chinatown, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Although I was not aware that it was a mini-hotel (meaning that the room was very small with barely enough space for the bed) when I booked it, that didn't really matter much to me. However, what I did find a little inconvenient was that the "hotel" parking was a public parking deck a block away. I would have preferred onsite parking.

Everything was clean and in great condition. No issues checking in/out, very straightforward stay, and even discounted parking! Location was great too being so near to the metro. Even though it was a micro hotel so we were expecting small/less amenities, I do wish there was at least a small fridge/coffee machine (or at least a communal coffee machine like the microwaves/ice machines), but truly not that big a deal, especially for only two nights.

Nice staff, tiny room was nicely appointed, good bed. Techno music pounding through room from 1am to 4am from nearby nightclub. Helicopters flying low. Nothing would mitigate the noise, not a sound machine or earplugs.

Clean and up to date. Although the bed was a bunkbed, mattress was extremely comfortable as were the pillows. Even smaller than I expected although the bathroom had ample room compared to the bedroom. Too expensive for room size. But a perfect location to the great Penn Quarter restaurants, Smithsonian Portrait and National Art Museums, both Shakespeare Theatres and immediately across the street from the Metro which provides great access to the entire city. Short ride to the Amtrak Union Station.

It was close enough to where I needed to walk to. The front desk was kind enough to change my room away from the loud busy street where there were protestors. The price for what you get is out rages. There should be complimentary breakfast for $300 a night. Free coffee and a coupon for dinner. Prices are high. Rooms are tiny.

This place is very clear. The staff were concerned about my wellbeing. When I first arrived, they told me about the meal plan, the event, and the policy. I didn't get breakfast maybe because I didn't pay for that but not a day someone came to my room with breakfast or told me about it. My room was clean all time. Moral room however, the room is very small and only good for a single person who wants to enjoy downtown of DC.

What a micro delight. I wasn’t aware of the small room size before I got there but the room had everything to accommodate. Large mirrors, luggage storage under the bed, huge TV, full sized sham/cond/lotion/body wash, a hair dryer, a clothes steamer, even a noise machine! Impressed. Great lighting. And so very clean. 10/10 stay, no notes.

The room was very small. The cleaners took my charger thinking I checked out early. Parking was $60 a night in the closest garage. The front desk told me it was $20. No complementary breakfast.

  • Andrea May 2026 · via expedia
    3/5

Not a great value for the price, $600 is quite steep for very small room with no amenities. The heating/cooling unit in the room was so loud making Stanley Kubrick movie like noises I had to turn it off which left the room stale with no airflow as it was keeping me awake. Toilet also ran loudly continuously. Would not return.

Very friendly and helpful staff, most especially Diaby. I was initially reluctant to book a hotel in such a central DC location, yet decided to take a chance because of the wonderful reviews and hopeful new travel experience. The staff members helped me orient to a nearby overnight garage to park my vehicle, as well as instructed me where to load my luggage right in front of the hotel entrance. I also couldn't believe how quiet the room was for the location. Great find!

Great choice for a short stay and if you're on a budget. My room was on the 2nd floor and facing H Street, so the only drawback was that the street noise was a bit loud. Not only is the room way smaller than the photos, which is saying something, walls are paper thin, there’s not only no coffee in the rooms or microwave, you have to buy coffee and go to the basement to use a microwave. My room was TINY, like a pod hotel - fairly well arranged for the available space, room was quiet, AC was good and bed was comfy - but no suitcase rack, no fridge, no closet (there was a rack above a shelf for hanging short items) and not much space to move around. Bathroom electrical outlet didn’t work most of the time so I was often unable to use the hairdryer anywhere near a mirror. Breakfast options very limited and server seemed bored and indifferent. Rooftop bar completely unavailable one evening due to a private event. Definitely NOT worth what I paid.

The room was very clean. TV was big as well but we did not use it much. They had good use of the bathroom space. Color was pretty. Husband loved the towels. Its a very small bathroom and door does not lock. They provide quality shower gel, lotion, shampoo and conditioner. Kudos to the staff. Super friendly. Although there was no fridge or microwave in room there are available microwave and ice and water machine in the " C" floor. You must use your room key at all times. It is needed to ride the elevators. Security was good. There is a restaurant in site. I was unahppy aboit the amenities and the manager did reach out to me on the last night of our stay. My greatest complaint is not having a microwave and fridge in the room. Overall, a good stay. Expensive but location makes ilip for it.

This is a microhotel so the rooms are VERY SMALL. It is convenient to Capital One arena but the price is too high. The room was clean and all just too small. Also it is very noisy on the street here. Thankfully the hotel provided earplugs or I would not have been able to sleep. The rooftop bar is nice with really nice views. Beeare that parking is .2 miles away and hardly any room to pull up out front to unload and reload. No valet parking either. All in all it wasnt a bad stay just overpriced for what you get. I much prefer the Kimpton Hotel.

Once the heater reaches your desired temperature the air comes on freezing you out and then the heater comes back on. The WiFi did not give me any trouble and the staff was polite. The elevator to the gym is also very slow. You should take the stairs. Also if you call Hilton Honors to confirm you’ll get your points and stay credit and they say yes. They are incorrect. I called 8 days before I booked to confirm and found out when I checked out that is incorrect. Room is perfect for 1-2 days if you’re just sleeping and changing clothes I gave the hotel a 4.5 because it’s just not my type of room but that’s just my preference the hotel would be perfect if you like micro mini.

    (1) the rooms are quite small. They can barely fit 2 people and their luggage. I am not sure if this is typical of DC hotels, but the room was extremely small. (2) The area around the hotel is sketchy. I feel bad knocking the hotel down a star for this because it’s outside their control, but be warned the area (Chinatown) gets extremely sketchy with cops around all night and day. The area is NOT family friendly - we saw the aftermath of a stabbing, a woman running around naked, a fist fight, and people buying/selling drugs in the 4 days we were there. If I were to visit DC again, I’d stay closer to Georgetown, the River, or in Arlington. Chinatown did not feel like a safe neighborhood. Unless you’re coming to DC for a Capitals/Wizards game, I would personally avoid Chinatown. (FYI - Hotel is right next to arena so if you’re going to a game for a night I would choose this hotel)

My first stay was as advertised. The front desk was warm and welcoming. My room was super clean and just what I needed for my visit. I really appreciated the extra security of my key card required to use the elevator. The proximity to museums and restaurants was perfect!! One more thing- since I was on a road trip, having access to a nearby parking garage made my stay simpler in getting in and out of DC.

Coffee in the morning was $5 a cup in their restaurant, with breakfast being $16 for an omelet. The coffee shop next door opens at 11 am. The hotel does offer free coffee service from 5 - 6:30 AM. (!!) Also, the street is so noisy that the hotel provides ear plugs in the room. I was awoken at 3AM by some screaming group of women out on the street. Cops everywhere both nights, which I suppose is a good thing given the denizens all over the street. A+ to the staff for positive attitude, friendliness, and condition of the place. D for location and amenities.

If you need a place to stay in DC and want to be within good distance of everything, this is the place to stay. Friendly staff, cafe, roof top bar, plus a gym in the basement. Being a mirco hotel doesn't change anything due to the fact you'll most likely be sight seeing anyways. Also there is endless options for amazing food literally on the same block. Walgreens just a few doors down for extra necessities. Just a block away from Capital One Arena for your games or concerts. 10 out of 10 highly recommend, because I'll definitely be staying here again for my next trip to DC

The staff are lovely and cannot fault them, the room was the smallest room on our journey, it was a boutique hotel and I’ve stayed in a boutique hotel before and you do not getting coffee/tea facilities in these hotels, they have hangar pegs for coats etc and pegs for hanging your haversack etc on. The bathroom was good and the hotel is good for walking around to museums, White House and the metro is 2 minutes away and union station half hour away for trains. There is loads of restaurants, coffee shops in the area. The hotel is on a busy street so if your a light sleeper I wouldn’t recommend but the hotel does supply ear plugs.

Upon arrival at this hotel, I was disappointed to find out that it was a Microtel—all the rooms had been condensed into tiny versions of hotel rooms without proper appliances or utilities for me and my guest to share during our stay. Online, this hotel was advertised as spacious and well enjoyed by previous guests, so this was quite a disappointment; realizing we’d have to suffer through a barely walkable room for the next four nights of our stay. It was also advertised online that the breakfast was provided by the hotel and was free, which was untrue. The attendees at the front desk also were not of much assistance when I expressed these concerns to them.

    - While this hotel is in a great location for attending any event at the Capital One Arena, what is not clearly stated is that this is a 'microtel- micro+hotel. This wasn't listed anywhere on Hotels.com and is hard to find on the actual Hilton website as well where they label the rooms as 'cleverly compact'. All non handicap accessible rooms are approximately 150 sq ft. We booked a queen bed room and there was barely any space to move around. I can't believe no other review has mentioned the incredibly small sizes. The bathrooms too are very compact with the shower spraying water everywhere including the floor. Our room was situated at the back of the hotel where there was construction beginning at 4am on the building next door making it impossible to sleep. This negative review has nothing to do with the staff members at the hotel who were all superbly friendly and helpful. Pros: Good location for Capital One Arena events - but a lot of homeless people around the hotel doors Friendly staff Cons: TINY room sizes Constant construction in the area with thin room walls

The room that I stayed in was next to where they were doing construction and I asked to move to another room and they would have accomodated me earlier in the day when there was rooms and cleaning staff avaliable but were unable to at the time that I showed up. I did not sleep well and was woken up early in the morning during my entire stay from the outside noises of construction, garabage collecting and the inside noise from doors being slammed shut. I also was disappointed when I went down stairs to relax on Thursday evening and the host stopped me from entering telling me that there was a private event and I was only able to hang out on the lounge sofa in the front of building and the bar that was already packed. The hotel should have notified the guests that there was going to be a private event and certain areas would be blocked off for the evening for hotel guest.

If you are arriving by car, finding a place to idle while you unload your bags can be a challenge. I did not know that this was a Microtel property. The room was too tiny. Also, "breakfast available" is too ambiguous of a description. Breakfast was not free, and it was not available. The coffee shop had bagels. That is NOT breakfast. I believe that there was a restaurant nearby (perhaps across the street).

This is a micro hotel located at Chinatown across the metro station with a cool rooftop bar and restaurant. It has a pretty cool design and everyday trendy vibe. The room is small as expected from a micro hotel. It is neat and clean and the bed is comfy. The staff is courteous and nice. The noise level from the street was loud from night till dawn because of a nearby night club and people on the streets. The noise cancellation sound device helped me to sleep through the night. So, you may want to ask for a room that does not face the street.

Just six short months in DC the environment feels safer due to the US National Guard deployment, especially heavy at night and weekends. No homeless encampments but a few sidewalk sleeepers that were ignored by local PD, sad. The Motto by Hilton is an excellent affordable option for a business hotel in downtown DC. Hotel rooms in DC can be outrageously expensive - and this is not the case at the Motto. That said, Motto describes itself as a micro-hotel. The rooms are small (sized more like London hotel rooms) and the in-room amenities (like a refrigerator) are sometimes missing. The Motto is very well maintained, everything works, the staff is very helpful, bed was comfortable, internet is free. Other than the small rooms, there is everything to recommend the Motto. There are two restaurants/bars on site - on the first floor and top floor (with outdoor veranda). I did not try either but looking at menus and the number of people at either, they seem to be good options. The Motto is conveniently located across the street from the Gallery Place Metro Station, there is a convenience store/pharmacy a few doors away and a huge number of restaurants/fast food within walking distance. A possible downside is lack of running/jogging opportunities, as running on the streets is painful but this would be true for any downtown DC hotel. The best option is to head south to the National Mall which is 0.7 miles away.

We had a one night stay. It's conveniently located across the street from the Green Line Gallery Place stop which was perfect for us. The hotel is very modern and very clean. The staff was very friendly. We didn't realize that this was a different type of Hilton. The rooms are very small! Just big enough for a full bed (we didn't think it was a queen) you can touch the bathroom door while lying in bed. If you're not going to spend much time in the room, this is perfect. Bare amenities...no coffee pot/fridge/microwave. That's why the price seemed so good. I wouldn't want to spend more than a day or two there. For a longer stay I'd prefer I larger, full amenities option.

I stayed there for the bar exam. It’s across the street from the Metro Chinatown/Gallery Place stop and 2 blocks from the Washington Convention Center, which made it super convenient. It was surprisingly quiet in the room, which allowed me a good night’s sleep both days. Bed was comfortable. As a microtel, room is only as big as a college dorm room, which was sufficient for my needs. Staff are all super friendly and really try to make your stay enjoyable. They kept stuff I bought in the fridge for me, so not having a fridge in the room wasn’t a big deal. I’m very picky about where I stay and don’t usually do reviews, but felt inspired to write this one because it is really a gem of a find.

Expedia said it was the hotel’s fault for not booking it, and now there’s no room for me! … I’m traveling with my three-year-old, and we ended up going from a queen bed to bunk beds. Someone owes me an explanation… I’m never booking through Expedia again! Absolutely terrible!

Very small room but clean. The area is very convenient in terms of good food and cross the street from the metro station.

Rooms are super small, but that’s part of the hotel style. I would seek out another Motto hotel for my next business trip.

Staff was so polite and accommodating. Very clean room. Easy access to dining options in walking distance. Nice roof top bar too. Parking was a little tricky, but we aren’t used to parking in big cities.

A no frills stay in a great location. If you're looking for a place to sleep but are really not using the room for anything but for that... this is the place. The twin matress was extremely comfortable. I'm sure there are other options at the establishment, but it served my purpose extremely well. Staff were professional and always helpful. Oh... and history is right across the street.

Parking is not convenient. Guests have to figure out and find a link for parking sign-up. All process takes about 30 min. And QR code at parking garage also tricky.
