I have been staying at this hotel for over 10 years, and the level of service has always been exceptional. The consistency, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality keep me coming back year after year. Thank you to the entire team for making my birthday weekend so special.

A great hotel next to everything

The hotel was great. Location is excellent- just across the road from the metro. Room was spacious and clean. Staff were excellent. Hotel is a little dated but doesn't take from its charm. Bar is very good. If I ever return to Washington it will be to the Kimpton Monaco.

The toilets have pressurized flushes, which is great, but we still had to double to triple flush to empty the bowl when there was hardly anything in it. They must just need servicing or it's just poor plumbing in an old building.

The entrance hall is misleading as everything from there is below expectations from very rude staff to smelly and old fashioned room. Not worth the price: there are a lot of better options around.

Nice hotel. The building was formerly a post office of the United States, built under Andrew Jackson. The first all marble building in DC. Clean room. Helpful and pleasant staff. Many restaurants and sightseeing areas nearby. Free drinks at 6 PM.

The proximity to cap one arena and the staff It smelled like mold in our room and at 3pm we lightly played music to get dressed for dinner and immediately got a complaint, I’m 46 yrs old it was not that loud at all.
- 5/5
Our fridge wasn't working. I texted the friendly front desk and it was replaced with a working one within five minutes. The happy hour was fun and free coffee always makes me happy. The building had so much character. Would definitely recommend. So easy to get around the city from this fabulous hub.

Nice furnishings We were given a room on floor one, which is subterranean. When you look out the window, the sidewalk level outside is 4 feet from the room’s ceiling. The window afforded light, but no view, and people outside could look down into our room. Check-in staff said there were no higher rooms were available.

The bathroom was very large but mostly wasted space because the shower was small and the counter top space was very limited. There was some moulding in shower that could have been replaced also. Room service was pretty much non existent as the restaurant catered to their inside guests I assume and very rarely answered the phone. The bar restaurant area was lively but they definitely cater to non hotel guests. If room is on main floor, noise from the restaurant outside patio area is definitely an issue. Front desk staff could be more hospitable. Only time I got someone friendly was when I got back home and phoned in to ask about my invoice which they could not provide to me upon check out since printers were down. Also strangely there were people sleeping on the couches in front lobby when I checked out at 5am who did not appear to be hotel guests, possibly family of staff, so that was pretty odd. Valet was always pleasant.

Staff and location. Really excellent staff all around. The hotel itself is clean but it’s not in the best condition. But still clean. Wonderful location and an overall great stay for families.

The staff was overly friendly and the room was clean. My issue was I left and was only gone for 10 minutes. My daughter left her Apple Watch in the room and the staff. I feel lied and said it was not there. I know someone from the staff took my daughter‘s watch I do not appreciate that overall it was a great stay.

Hotel Monaco was perfect for an overnight stay celebrating a milestone birthday with family in D.C. We took in dinner and a show, both within walking distance of the hotel. The holiday market right outside the front door made for a picturesque backdrop for our celebratory stay. Keilon and the rest of the staff met all expectations including flowers awaiting the guest of honor upon her arrival to her room. Thank you for a wonderful, memorable stay. We will be back!

The staff was very rude and rushed me through the check in process. They put us in the basement, and the only window in the room was opaque, making it feel like a dungeon. Didn’t receive the complimentary water. Container of damp rid in room just full of water. Several water marks where there was a leak and was growing mold. Room smelled bad. Wallpaper was peeling off. The building itself was very neat and they did do a good job at maintaining the historical aesthetic. Location was very convenient. Overall, I will not stay here again.

We paid $500+ for a night that we could not even enjoy because of the street noise. This was supposed to be a "garden level" room. There was no garden. There was a noisy street that was actually ABOVE our room. We could not even let daylight in because people walking on a sidewalk would be able to see inside our room. Terrible. Never again we will consider this hotel chain.

I adore their scents, decor, and bike lending. All the little touches they add are fun. DC: Providing postcards and doing the stamping and mailing at the old post office building is a joyful novelty. I understand, but I’m sad that the toiletries are no longer in small take away bottles. The bikes we received were in need of service (loose seats and not aligned).

The room with a queen bed we stayed in was by far the smallest hotel room we've ever stayed in. A bigger person would not have been able to fit between the foot of the bed and the opposite wall (where the TV is mounted), in order to move from the side of the room with the door and bathroom to the side with the desk and most readily accessible outlets. The place was clean, but our room was located on the "1st" floor, which is sub street level (and below the lobby) and smelled musty. The room itself actually smelled damp. We considered asking for a different room, but the schedule for the convention we were in town for was tight, so we just dealt with it for the hours we were in the room to sleep. The food at the restaurant is good, the staff is very polite, and I appreciate that they highlight the automatic gratuity on the check. I found it a little strange that, though they walk by the tables frequently, you essentially have to flag someone down to ask for the check, a to go box, etc. No one ever even stopped in to check on my meal or ask if I wanted water.

The good: This is a lovely rehabilitated historic building; we loved our room, the tall ceilings and wide hallways. We also enjoyed a drink at the bar. Our first night's stay was fine after the party in the courtyard ended around 9 p.m. Unfortunately, the second night was a nightmare. The people in the neighboring room on the second night of our stay were extremely loud, leading us to check out at 2 a.m. and drive home rather than put up with the noise any longer. We did contact hotel staff earlier in the evening, who followed up with them, but to no avail - after a brief period, they resumed the loud talking, and their dog barked on several occasions. There were also children running and making noise in the halls both nights, long past the time when small children should have been in bed. We may have simply been unlucky, but the experience was miserable.

Very disappointing stay . We travel frequently and this by far was sub-par. The reception desk staff acted as if we were bothering them from check-in to check out. The complimentary social hour staff, however, were welcoming and friendly. Regarding the rooms…. I have never seen a flat bedsheet thrown over an uncovered duvet! Horrible! For the price of the room, a duvet cover should absolutely be standard! The bar was advertised to be open until 11pm/12am. Both nights we were there the bar closed at 8pm!!!! With no notice or communication !!! Location was great but please stay at a different nearby hotel.

The stay was perfect for my son and I, for one night. We were given a “basement level” room that was about a 3-4 minute walk from the elevator, which I wasn’t crazy about, but when you’re in DC, how long are you really in the room floor. Other than that, we’d totally stay there again!

We had a lovely stay at the Kimpton Monaco and loved the historic nature of the property. Our room was large and perfect for my daughter, grandson and me. We enjoyed the coffee to go in the lobby and the happy hour each evening. Bedding was comfortable and the hotel was quiet. Great stay and we will come back for a return visit! Superb location with walkability to many of the sites we wanted to see.

Beautiful hotel, and perfectly situated for my trip. Was attending a playoff game and the hotel is steps away from the Capitol One Arena.

Had to change rooms due damp musty smell which was eventually accommodated. Fitness room equipment over a decade old and bathroom tubs not updated. Cheap details by mgmt reflected in staff’s sad demeanor.

Room wasn't ready. Phone and many amenities in the room didn't work. The front desk woman who checked me in was not helpful and gave me a room in the basement where the amenities didn't work. The second person who helped me at the desk was helpful and open to finding a new room. Overall, I probably wouldn't stay here again.

Not ADA friendly. Steps and stairs everywhere. Have to ask for water. Have to ask for a coffee maker in the room. Only one chair in the room. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash stored on sink, not in shower. Very inconvenient.

Room was dirty and had stains on curtains. Ceiling and walls had dents and scratches. For a lux hotel, this was not up to standard.

Hotel was very pretty and unique. Not easily accessible for elderly people or with a disability. The woman at the front desk was arguably rude. The hotel housekeeping knocked on the door at 8am to clean the room. Some service training is needed.

We had a wonderful stay at the Kimpton Monaco in Washington DC. I love that it is dog friendly. It was clean and all of the staff were friendly and attentive. Will stay again.
- 4/5
The shower/tub was poorly designed with no light, no way to prevent splash to outside and no place to put shampoo and other containers. Really bad. Service ar VERY costly breakfast was indifferent.
- 3/5
The rooms are quite dated and the bathroom are traditional tubs with a shower vs a walk in shower.
- 5/5
Nice stay, the rooms were spacious. I wished the beds were larger. I haven't slept in a Full bed in a long time. Being a tall person my feet hung off end of bed. The architecture was beautiful.

Fantastic stay at Hotel Monaco. High ceilings, old building character with modern comfort, ideal location. Quiet in the room despite bustling surrounds. Hard to beat. Only knock was 9:30 am housekeeping knock when checkout is at noon. I should have hung the do not disturb sign. Overall great value for the quality of stay.

Hotel and location were great. A little surprised they still didn't have a room ready when we arrived 45 mins after checkin and had to wait 15 mins. It would have been nice to be informed at front desk of details of amenities at hotel - bar/restaurant which looks like it also does breakfast, free coffee in lobby in morning etc. We were told about the 5-6pm wine welcome but missed it
- 5/5
We love this hotel - we travel a lot and think it’s one of the prettiest we’ve stayed in - the architecture is fabulous and the design is fun. We also have two dogs and love that Kimptons are dog friendly. The location is perfect to walk to all the major museums and sites and there are plenty of restaurants nearby.

The hotel is hit or miss. Much depends on the room you get. Some are supposedly wonderful and large. Some are in basement (what they call 1st floor) with limited windows. Ours was ok, clearly an office that had been converted, with a bathroom built into the room, which looked odd and created an L shape. Some of the windows were covered by a massive headboard. In all it felt a bit thoughtlessly put together. Not sure it's worth the price, esp with the $30/day amenity fee they tack on (which I had no idea what it was for).
- 1/5
The hotel is dated, the rooms/carpets smelled of mould. Restaurant wouldn’t serve post 10pm, the hotel didn’t even provide water bottles in the room. Overall experience was dismal, will take our business elsewhere going forward!
- 4/5
Overall great. Few issues with property staff not picking up trash on hallways bit nothing major.
- 5/5
Liked the hotel restaurant (Dirty Habits) although they were out of 3 signature cocktails and had limited liquor selection. Otherwise A experience overall.

The room was not properly cleaned. We requested an alternate room and were advised that none were available.

It is a nice hotel in a historic building…The first night I had to stay on the first floor which is half way under ground, like a basement. The room was clean but had a moldy smell and felt dark and claustrophobic. But when rooms opened up next day, they moved me to second floor which was super nice and had no smell. So, it’s a good hotel if you stay second or third floors.
- 4/5
The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and the staff are always friendly, professional, and helpful. Our only complaint on this trip was we were on floor 1 in a room that had a musty odor and I am pretty sure we could feel the metro passing by. With that said, we were able to overlook that and had a very comfortable sleep. We will be back.

Nice old historic building, but the room had not been thoroughly cleaned, the in house restaurant was not good and tremendously overpriced, and the mattress was perhaps the worst I've ever slept on. I have had terrible back pain since. Really cool building, but would not recommend
