Wasn’t crazy about this place. Didn’t like the location. There is construction going on right in front of the hotel & hard to get too. The pool is small. The room is small & stuffy. The restaurant was never opened. The elevator wasn’t working. Only thing I like was the coffee shop. The latte was delicious!

I always appreciate that this hotel offers a moderate price point without being pretentious, and it exudes a charming boutique hotel vibe. The decor, location, and food and beverage options all contribute to the overall atmosphere and charm of the hotel. Out of the four times I’ve stayed there, the front desk staff in the evenings has been consistently unhelpful. Notably, there’s a female staff member with a thick accent who is always quite curt and, at times, downright rude. I can’t recall her name. She frequently hangs up the phone before you can even complete your sentence, often necessitating a second call to conclude your conversation. The hotel’s maintenance needs significant improvement. One of the elevators has been out of service for quite some time now. It’s also disheartening that guests have to call to request ice and cups, even though the staff is always willing to help. They should also ensure that the bathroom has more than two towels and that the closets have extra blankets and pillows for guests.

no tv in the room? The elevator doors shut on my husbands arm and wouldn’t stop- luckily I grabbed my kids through it and he had to drop the bag he was holding because he couldn’t pull it back through? He was attempting to hold it open so we could all get out because it starts to shut almost immediately. The couple in front of us almost got shut in it when getting on and we joked about it just to follow up with it actually shutting on us. The staff ran over and looked concerned as if this isn’t the first time. One of the biggest reasons we booked was complimentary breakfast as stated is rare in d.c in this listing, but you have to pay for the breakfast when you get there???? says continental breakfast (surcharge) but not until you’re checked into the property. The place was beautiful on the inside but other than that was an absolute mess and not what we expected.

This is my second time staying here and it was once again a great experience! DuPont is the life of DC and I needed to be in the middle of it! This time the pool was open and such a relaxing spot after a day of touring the Capitol!! The staff go above and beyond to make your stay amazing!

It was close to my meeting location. Only one working elevator that was very slow and rickety. Staff was not customer friendly overall. No gift/sundry shop or vending machines. Thermostat could not be adjusted to make the room warmer- temperature was 64 degrees the whole time. Bad odor. Electrical outlets did not work USB ports did not work. Fitness room seemed like a dungeon. Street construction all around the hotel entrance.

From the outset, interactions with the front desk were disappointing, as most questions or requests were met with an unhelpful or dismissive response. More concerning was the mishandling of my reservation. I booked two rooms for three nights, yet one of the rooms was mistakenly reserved for only a single night. As a result, my guest was locked out of the room the following day. We were later informed that the receptionist on duty had only entered the reservation for one night despite the confirmed three-night booking. This created unnecessary inconvenience and reflected a lack of attention to detail. The property would also benefit from meaningful upgrades and better upkeep. The rooms were dimly lit, refrigerators were not stocked, elevators were not consistently operational, and standard amenities such as cotton swabs and cotton balls were absent. More importantly, certain maintenance concerns should have been resolved before guests checked in. For example, the lock in my room was broken upon arrival and could not be repaired until the next day, which left me feeling uneasy about safety and security. In addition, the room had a persistent unpleasant odor that remained throughout the

My beef isn't with the staff at all. The lady at the front desk did everything she could within her power to rectify my issue. My beef is with Expedia for not properly booking my room with this hotel. The last thing that any traveler wants to deal with is hotel issues upon arriving from a long or stressful flight. Thankfully I was refunded and had a plan B. Lesson learned going forward. Always confirm your room when using a third party site.

I stayed in a one-room king bed, which was comfortable overall. Housekeeping comes daily unless you place a do not disturb sign, and they did a good job for the most part. There were a few small areas where cleaning could have been more thorough. I noticed a couple of crumbs and things on the floor upon check-in, especially in corners and crevices. Overall, it was a good stay. The hotel did have a slightly eerie vibe at times, but that could have just been my experience traveling alone. Hotel is changing ownership (March 2026). I had 2 rooms reserved for my family. The hotel manager canceled one of my rooms thinking it was a duplicate, even though both were pre-paid. After an hour chatting with Expedia and the front desk and escalating to the property manager (Tim), we realized Tim canceled my resy. An hour wasted. Tim did nothing to compensate us for his error. My kid's room had no towels, no soap, no TV, and the in-room phone didn't work. Hotel is just OK otherwise---OH, there is a "resort fee" even though this isn't a resort. I would avoid.

Drinking glasses and a coffee maker were missed items, typically found in hotel rooms at this price point. The property was in the middle of some form of switch over, so the front desk had no idea what they're doing with the billing, after assuring Me 2 days in a row that housekeeping would clean the room, they never did, the refrigerators don't work, the TV didn't work, the bottom of the tub was flexible plastic that bent, overall a very poor.

I don’t know what the hotel will be like in the future, they just got bought out by another management company. However, when we stayed there was a horrible mold smell everytime you turned on the water, and no working ventilation in the bathroom. No coffee machine or microwave in the room either. They have a restaurant and cafe in the hotel but their prices are outrageous. BIGGEST ISSUE: hidden fees. There was a $130 “facility fee” that we were charged upon arrival that was not mentioned on Expedia. Then on top of that, there’s a $50 a day parking fee for the garage below which the parking fee was not upfront either. Staff are friendly, but the rooms are only cleaned every 3 days unless you ask for extra cleanings and new towels. I’d personally recommend going to a slightly more expensive hotel that won’t have the hidden fees, and will have a coffee machine in the room or even free breakfast because it’ll end up being cheaper in the long run. But again, all of these things could change over the next year as the hotel itself is changing naming and updating things.

Overly priced. Can't eat in dorm rooms. Coming in and out at desired times is not ideal. Seems like because you stay in a dorm room you had a curfew too. Front desk was not very accommodating. Security guy was nice.

My concern was that I left a wedding ring at the property during mt last visit, I called, described it, and was told that it was located in my room. Upon my return this time, I twice asked about the ring. Each time I received a nonchalant reply: 1. You have to check with housekeeping and they leave early and 2. Did you contact us about it? (Affirmative, I was told that it is here?) We don't have it. (No searching - Do you have a lost and found?) We don't have it. No real interest in looking or attempting to assist.

The room was nice, but the TV didn’t work well. The sound kept cutting off frequently for a few seconds. Engineers replaced the TV, but the issue continued. There were only 41 or so channels and they didn’t all work. They could use new TVs. I wanted to connect my Xbox into the hdmi but for some reason the TV default volume was set to 100 if you used your own device which was insanely loud and you could not adjust it. Besides that the room was nice, clean, and the bar downstairs was also very scenic. However one of the main reasons I chose this hotel was hoping the TV would work well.

Tried staying in one of those bunk bed, 4 random people room. Such a weird experience. I was assigned bed number 2. Came into the room, my bed was occupied, and I asked quietly: anyone here? This girl was staying in my bed, and apologized, asked if I can take her bed number 4. I said ok, was very tired from traveling. Quietly went to bed, closed my curtain. At midnight this other random guy came in, and occupied bed number 3, above me. He fell asleep instantly and started snoring and farting non stop. I took my stuff and left at 4 am. Asked for single room. It was so disgusting. Another thing, both days they didn’t have hot water, it just ran for 30 seconds and then cold water for 2 hours…

I will say that one of the manager ladies was sympathetic to my suffering, I found that most of the top management in general did not want to do what was in their power to help solve this crime… to clarify, my wallet was not left in plain sight, my rights to privacy were violated as the thief went through my belongings however some of the staff decided to lecture me about the privacy of the suspected thief. Hope this never happens to any one who risks a stay at a hostel, remember that you may experience a particularly hostile atmosphere from some of the staff, especially if you find yourself in such a situation. Although I will say that the lady at the cafe was nice, offering me free breakfast given that I was missing all my cash and credit cards. Overall, I will stay away from hostels… too much risk, not worth it.

The rooms are small but very adequate. There is a gap under the door that lets light in. The lights that are controlled by the switch by the door are minimal. Making it a little tricky to navigate. The bed is on the soft side, and you will sink in the longer you lie there. It isn't too loud considering it is in a city. The curtains do block out the light well. There was an incident one night where my neighbor got evicted at 11 pm. Management never said anything to me. It was unnerving to have the police there. The peephole is also very high up in the door.

The senior front desk staff were particularly helpful. The omission of a bathroom fan meant that the bathroom depended on central air to dry off. I think this could lead to retention of the chemicals in the cleaning sprays used in the bathroom. I found myself sneezing a lot in that environment once warm air was circulating. My one pet peeve was the way towels were handled at the front desk. To me, towels should always be handled with the utmost care, following proper sanitation protocols, as these come into intimate contact with a person’s body. Proper protocols from the laundry room to being handed to the guest. I do realize the handling of these items are not of the highest standard in other hostels as well - laid out in the open by the front desk, laid on receptionist countertops and notebooks like a car wash rag. Hostels need to do better in this regard generally.

I stayed at Generator for 3 nights and not ONCE did they clean my room. I put the “please clean my room” sign on the door and left early every morning around 8:00–8:30am, and nobody bothered to come. My room stayed dirty the entire stay. Also, the water in the showers for the last TWO days was cold. This is not a cheap hostel where you expect zero service — this is supposed to be a hotel. I’ve stayed in dozens of places all over the world and I’ve never had a place ignore cleaning requests like this. And when I complained, they didn’t offer any compensation or anything at all. Zero accountability. They clearly don’t take cleaning seriously and they don’t care about customer experience. Absolutely do NOT recommend. I regret staying here.

The place was nice. It had much needed personality unlike others. It looked like they cleaned up and personified another existing chain hotel. It’s offers plenty of options as far as places stay. I’m a huge fan of this. Although I won’t use dormitory accommodations, it’s perfect for students visiting the area. On top of this, the classic choices are available. I would recommend trying it out but like I said, my experience is limited. The hotel had a cool coffee bar and a cute restaurant and a bar inside. I didn’t visit either but would have been worth so if so we’re staying longer.

It's a 2 mile walk to the museums, but so much to see and do along the way that it didn't feel near that long. Also, considering the age of the building the rooms were in excellent condition, showing no signs of wear and tear that you'd see at most hotels half its age. Very pleased and will definitely recommend and return.

I like the location of this hotel, the staff are very nice, and the room was a nice size and very clean. (It's close to Dupont Circle and the metro. You can also walk downtown easily) However, I encountered many problems. First, I arrived at the hotel and discovered that there was no air conditioning during a very humid week. They did provide a fan and the window could open. In addition, I was given the option to be refunded and find another hotel. Arriving late at night, I wished they had told me sooner. It was too late to handle that after a very long day of travel. Second, the hair dryer broke on the first day and then after cleaning the room, didn't leave any towels or a fresh robe. I had to chase down staff to get a towel. One evening a person who likely had been out drinking was banging on my door, insisting it was their room. Had to call the front desk and they sent up security. The wifi was also very spotty and I was staying in the hotel because it was recommended by the university running the conference I was attending in D.C. Some of the conference was on zoom, so not knowing whether the wifi would work created additional anxiety. Lastly, the fridge stopped working on the last night of my stay. In each instance, staff responded promptly and calmly, but it was just too much in the end. The management needs to look at making sure all rooms are properly cared for. This hotel could be a great place to stay with better oversight.

For them to contact you the night before you travel does not give you time to seek another hotel or claim your money back. Location is good. But great for young people.

AC was broken and it was super hot in the entire hotel when we got there with no prior notice, and no fan in the room. Only options were to refund and cancel or stay and pay full price. Save your money. The air-conditioning was out—which was unfortunate and unpleasant—but even beyond that the staff was rude and unhelpful, particularly in light of how miserable the stay already was. There are much better places to stay in DC. Recommend you stay elsewhere!

  • Bruno Sep 2025 · via expedia

During our stay, the whole hotel was having issues with air-conditioning, which resulted in very warm rooms and communal areas. They provided a fan to guests, but it was hard to sleep since the rooms had almost no air circulation (no fresh air from outside). From a chat with other guests, this was going on for at least a week, which makes the situation even worse: how can a hotel take such a long time to restore comforts such as AC to their guests. Also, although it is listed with swimming pool, it closes from 1st September. This is not mentioned at any point during booking. Although we had these two major issues during our holiday stay, they have not offered anything to compensate for this besides the option to cancel/refund. We couldn't even consider this option since we were only informed one day before, while already travelling, not giving us much time to re-plan the trip.

I even watched another guest go through the exact same mess, so this isn’t just bad luck—it’s how they operate. It’s sad this hotel gets recommended. My experience was absolutely fine, some might not know if it is a problem for them until they are in the room though. So if you are not 100% okay with a mixed-gender space for sleeping, go for a single-gender room if its available.

When I found this place on Hotels.com the website advertised "all fees included" in the final price advertised. What they dont tell you that when the hotel asks for $100 deposit they dont mention that its actually a "facilities fee" which they take a big chunk of the deposit. I've tried contacting Hotels.com about this issue but it hasnt been resolved. So its false advertising that "all fees included" Hotels.com shows. Better to stay at a place that shows you all the fees upfront rather than doing backend sneakiness.

Checked in between 6pm-7pm, dropped my bag in the room and left out for dinner with a friend. When I got back around midnight, the room was so hot that I was dripping sweat so badly. I grabbed my stuff and complained to the front desk. He said that he had gotten complaints about the heat around 8pm from others but that they decided to stay. I told him that just because they decided to stay when the heat was bad in their rooms, doesn’t mean that I am bad for not wanting to endure the same. He said that maybe I should have not decided on a shared room and directing that this is all my fault. He refused to give me any receipts. This ended around 2am, so nothing else is open. I ended up having to keep my reservation “technically checked in still” just to sit in the lobby till morning. Was reminded not to sleep any in the lobby. This is my first time staying in DC for leisure only to have one of the worst hotel stays of my life. The bathrooms in the rooms don’t even have shampoo and body wash/soap! (Which they don’t disclose on their site). I highly recommend nobody stay here. The hotel will fight me on a refund, so I doubt I’ll get even half a refund. 0/10

This hotel was SO COOL! The vibe was incredible in the lobby - secruity round the clock -- space to work and sit and chat and connect and eat and drink. Rooms were clean and the AC was amazing. 10/10 would come back here again!

Even after the management told us a technician was taking care of the problem it took complaints from several guests before anything was done. No comp no changing rooms. The ceiling was peeling, no ventilation in the bathroom, some of the staff was rude, will not go back or recommend.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. Palm sized roaches outside right at the entrance, rats scurrying from the cafe outside across my feet, a roach immediately upon entering our room, the room smelled like chlorine and bleach as soon as we walked in and was incredibly humid. I’m from Jersey, I’m used to NYC rats and their audacity but this was on a whole new level. The amenities had no rhyme or reason to them. Website said the bar closes at 12 or 1 am on Friday or Saturday nights and both nights we were there it was closed by 11 and 7 pm respectively. And the pool was closed by 8 pm. So if you don’t plan on staying at the hotel all day to get a chance to catch any of the amenities, don’t even bother booking this property. And the water had absolutely no pressure in the shower. The sink had better water pressure and would splash all over me every time I turned it on, meanwhile the shower trickled out like it had a weak prostate. Further, the Expedia price quoted me at $423 for our weekend stay “including taxes and fees” but when I paid when I got there they charged me $481 claiming “property fees”. The signs outside and on the website say $50 for parking but then they’ll tell you it’s actually $65. So not only was this property feces covered in glitter, they make you pay as if it’s a luxury stay.

Good hotel with decent rooms and a nice outside area when you want to escape the city. Not in the heart of Washington but easily accessible. Nice restaurant area too. The only snag was the usual "extras" at check in

Expedia over charged me excessively with the nightly price of >$600 per night when the room is only like a regular hostel room. I understand this is a dynamic pricing and the platform such the blood of those who need to travel. When I checked the price just use google, the rooms only cost <$200 for computable period.
