Guests generally appreciate the hotel's proximity to downtown and the friendly, helpful staff. The rooms are described as clean, comfortable, and well-decorated, with updated bathrooms. However, some guests find the rooms small and the walls thin, leading to noise issues. The hotel's heating system, particularly the wall heaters and space heaters, is a common point of contention.

Everything about this little hotel was amazing for us. The staff was super friendly and gave us recommendations on places to eat and visit in town. The room was very clean and the beds were so comfy. Also appreciate it being cat friendly! Room was a little small but we really only used it to sleep in

The staff were friendly and helpful, the location great although parking was tight. It was clean and was a lovely room. The microwave was too high up. I'm six feet and struggled so my wife would have been unable to use it.

My family and I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. It was so convenient for where we wanted to go. We loved the room and how it was decorated. The only drawback was there was hardly any space to put our belongs. It did feel a little crowded. The manager Norma was wonderful! She was so friendly and kind. My daughter commented to me about her excellent customer service! She went above and beyond our expectations. She told us places to go see. She was so helpful and always acknowledged us when she saw us and asked about our day. She was a delight.

One of the better motels we've stayed in. The bed was extremely comfy and the linen & towels were of high quality. The bathroom was roomy and the shower head was big with great pressure. Everything was extremely clean and it had special touches to make it more original than standard motels. It's also only a short walk into town. Highly recommend anyone to stay here. It can be noisy in the morning when people leave as the cars are right outside

Cute hotel. Outside needs to be updated but they are updating the rooms first. Very close to downtown Virginia City and within walking distance too. Parking was a challenge at times. I had a single room with one bed and that worked great for me as it was just me. It is right on Main Street so you will hear cars and motorcyclists driving by. And the rooms did not have central air but a stand up air conditioner that vented out the front window and took up space next to the bed. I was just happy to have air conditioning. But I would still give this hotel 4 out of 5 stars.

This is a very unique hotel, making it just a slight bit difficult to give a hard and fast rating. If the scale was 1 to 10, I would give it a nine. But on a scale of 1 to 5, I don't wish to deduct an entire point. So, here goes. The road over the Geiger Summit and into Virginia City is very beautiful and fun to drive. You will achieve an altitude of almost 6,800 feet. The main street in town is 'C' Street, and that is the road that Sugarloaf Mountain Motel is on.The motel has only a few rooms. But it has a fun little office, which doubles as a market with quite a few choices of food and beverage. We arrived late in the evening and were helped by Dottie. She was extremely inviting and informative. The key to our room was exactly that - a key with that old fashioned plastic fob.Classic, for sure.We stayed in Room #8.Our room was very clean and well organized. It has been redecorated and we enjoyed the interesting motif. There was a refrigerator and microwave. The room had more than ample lighting. There was an attractive quilt bedspread which kind of looked like it was handmade. The bathroom had oodles of towels and washcloths, soaps and lotions. We had a wonderful night's sleep. The room was very quiet.I think we had one neighbor, though we really never heard anyone. There was free coffee available in the office beginning at 8:00.The only issue was the room size.A bit small, but not a deal breaker by any means. We are already planning a return visit with more time to explore this fun town.

Newly remodeled room, the staff is friendly and rooms are clean. Very close to town and attractions. I am a repeat guest. This is my go to accommodation. I've already booked a room for my next stay in October. There is an on site mini mart for snacks, beverages (adult and kids), basic groceries and forgotten OTC meds. FREE coffee and pastries in the morning. Parking in town can be extremely limited on weekends. A free shuttle ride is available, just ask. It's also close enough to walk. The parking. While there is on site parking it's sometimes difficult to get out. With that in mind, just remember it's an historic property, a horse or buggy didn't take up as much room as your SUV.

Our Second stay here , it’s a very small motel but clean and staff very friendly. Room this time was small but bed was surprisingly comfortable. Ac was a portable unit (in this room) but kept it cool and no complaints. For the price it’s convenient and worth it. Office doubles as a market and free coffee and danishes in the am.

situations. She has all the necessary state and town paperwork and were offered to hotel employees to verify at check in. During the stay one of the hotel employees informed me that there will be a $25.00 charge for cleaning because of the service animals. I once again stated they were service animals and she says it doesn't matter. My question is why does Hotels.com state " Service animals exempt from fees"? When it was time to check out my partner went in and asked why they weren't following Hotels.com rules and her rights. The hotel employee proceeded to tell her that Service animal paperwork is a sham and stereotyped my partner she was doing the same thing although my partner walks with forearm crutches and plastic ankle supports. This employee also stated that she follows Nevada laws not other states laws. How ignorant , Disabled citizens laws are federal. My partner went in the lobby not to argue, but to question and this employee was arguing with her like she was a school child. Hotels.com needs to take this complaint seriously . Disabled people rights are not being followed and hotels like this are going to tarnish the reputation of Hotels.com and other booking agents.

Location was excellent, property was cluttered with what appeared to be old yard sale junk which limited access to our room. The walkway to the room looked like it hasn't seen a broom in weeks. Toilet wouldn't flush, they fixed it as soon as we told them about it, was a ring around the tub, the door seems to have been kicked some time ago. The little market was well stocked with a good variety of snacks, drinks and meal stuffs. The staff was great!

The owners are giving this old motel a needed face lift and the shower was awesome! Very spa like and I was envious of it. Like a natural rain. The owner really tricked this one out! The towels are plentiful, soft, and smell great. The room itself was not big, but again, think "rural'. The owners were quite gracious and got the flat TV screen to work. The bed was comfortable. And because the motel is directly facing a major street, we took everything of importance out of our car for the night. Even though we always lock our car. The motel is within walking distance to the many quaint shops and eateries. They have a small market on the premises. The only negative: Find out if the heater is working. Remember, the owners are revamping an old motel. And we didn't want to bother them as it was after 8 p.m. But the heater was broken. It was a good thing we didn't have a lighter (We're non-smokers) thinking we could get the pilot light on. That would have been a huge mistake! But the owner did make a point to remind us after they got the TV working, that anything we need - Anything, give them a call. It is not a bother after all he is the owner and would gladly help his customers. They make good on that! * Very friendly staff! * And a decent stay in old, Virginia City.

Love the little store, the staff, the rooms, stories, etc. -Nice, friendly and helpful staff. It’s a bit old and some of it is pretty run down/could be updated. It’s a cute and charming place none the less! We have stayed there twice. Winter rates are a bit more inline, I do think it’s a bit pricey for what it is and I do wish check out time was later. They do have a very early checkout time compared to most other places. Overall we love this place and will be back.

It’s such a cute little place. We went the weekend before Halloween so the Motel was decorated all up, it was so cute. The bed was very comfortable, the room was nice and clean, and I like that the room offered both heat and an air conditioning unit (even though it was end of October it was still quite warm), so that was really nice. The room also had a mini fridge and a microwave another plus! And what was really nice was the little market that literally had everything that you needed right there in the Motel. Also we enjoyed the location. It’s at the opposite end of all the bars. So it’s nice and quiet at night. After being there a few minutes our kitty felt right at home. Parking is right in front of the rooms each room has a parking spot! Everything is pretty much within walking distance unless you leave Virginia City. They did offer a shuttle to local areas for tips which was really nice. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and we know we have found our home away from home in Virginia City, NV.

They have a friendly cat that greets people and that was a nice sweet perk.

The rooms were clean and comfy but small. However, our stay was great in every way because of the incredible hospitality of the owners. We enjoyed our time there immensely!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Sugarloaf Mountain Motel. The staff was welcoming and kind. It was well located on the Main Street of Virginia City, but far enough away from the main tourist area as to be quiet. It has a certain kind of funky charm that Iike. It was comfortable enough though sadly the window wouldn't open - due to the AC unit - and so it got as little stuffy. The fresher the air the better.

It is a sweet hotel, small but nice. It does need more light by the bed as I like to read at night. You’ll have to wait if you’re a coffee drinker until 8am.

Very cute motel. The owners did a really good job of capturing the period feel of a 1940's or 50's motor hotel while still providing modern comfort. Makes it a fun stay, while most all other vintage motels have become sterile or gross. Space is tight and the bathrooms are tiny, but that's the way it was once upon a time. The office is a well stocked little grocery store with a cute cat hanging around. Owners were very nice.

The people were great, super friendly. First thing i noticed when i walked in the room, besides how small the room was, was the quilt on the bed. It was beautiful. The room had everything you would need, fridge, microwave, A/C, heat...ect. but there was no curtain on bathroom window or any type of covering for privacy. If anyone had walked behind the room they could have seen everything. Because of the size of the room it was a juggling act at times to get in or out of bathroom. You had to make sure you were covered or dressed if front door was opened for the other person to enter or exit the room. It was clean aside from some stains on the carpet and the carpet was an outlandish color and pattern. The bathroom was tastefully decorated. I know i was there on a holiday weekend and options there are limited but with everything in mind i feel it was overpriced. I did enjoy the experience, i liked the location...very quiet and peaceful, the view across the street was wonderful. It may have a queen size bed but the room is more suited for a single guest. I am sorry if this seems harsh. It was kind if cute, nice location, friendly people

The property is pretty run down and a little noisy if you're right next to the office and the table where people gather in the evening. The young girl in the market was very accommodating and cordial. We ate at the Mexican restaurant close by and the food was really good.

We originally booked this motel for 2 nights, not knowing how long we would stay in Virginia City. Ultimately, we opted to stay a 3rd night and were able to keep our room (12). This room is probably the most private room with an entrance on the second floor at the back of the building. There is a private little balcony with a table and chairs. The room was clean and with the window A/C, it stayed at a comfortable temperature. My room complaint would be that the bed could be better. It was comfortable enough, but it is a spring mattress and I could feel every time my wife would move. The front desk is also a little store with a good selection of snacks, drinks and toiletries. Everyone that we encountered working here was very friendly and they have a golf cart/shuttle to take you into the heart of town. You could definitely walk it, but it’s a bit of a hike. There is a Mexican restaurant a couple of doors down and the food was pretty good. If you get in late, it’s one of the only places open. My only other complaint that I have with this motel is that there was an area in the front that was a bit cluttered with miscellaneous items which included some tools and possibly some building materials. This may be a temporary issue… Maybe some work being done in a couple rooms. That being said, it’s not a deal breaker for us. We will be back to Virginia City and will likely try to book this motel again.

What an amazing little property! We saw this place while walking around Virginia City on a previous trip and had to stay here due to it being within 2-3 minutes walking distance from the main strip of C street. Check in was a breeze and the little store was extremely convenient.. it’s a literal mini mart attached to the hotel which is fantastic for snacks and drinks considering there isn’t a Walmart or 7-11 in Virginia City. Highly recommend staying here.. it’s within walking distance of everything you could or should want to see in town. We will definitely return here on our next stay!
