We had the family room and it was decent sized. Nice ocean view with balcony. Loved the location. Would definitely stay again. Staff was very helpful on giving ideas of attractions and things to check out. Plenty of parking.

Pretty much in the middle of all of the store fronts. Very friendly staff. They always stopped and talked to me and my family. They also adored our toddler and would say hi and give her high fives. The staff were more than accommodating when I asked if I could store a handful of chairs in the one room on the ground floor until the day I had to return them The only thing that I didn’t like, but didn’t interfere with my stay was the wifi was super slow at times and it would disconnect at times too

The location was okay The parking was horrible, the elevator door closes before you can get on and off. The beds were hard as well as the ascent chairs. The refrigerator froze the salads and lunch meats. The bathroom you had to stand sideways to close the door it was like a closet. The layout of the room is horrible. My family and I left a day early because we were so uncomfortable and when I checked out no one cared enough to ask why we were leaving early. Never again will we stay here.

This hotel needs some updating. We booked for the sand soccer weekend first off. The AC in the room was not cold. I asked them to come look at it. Don't think anybody came. They couldn't move us. It stayed warm in the room the entire day and over night I can say this I was miserable. They were booked out for the whole weekend and for us to change hotels at that last minute of Friday was not a choice. We paid way too much money for an awful experience. This hotel needs some updating. We got yelled at by the receptionist, leaving about elevator. A couple have dropped their entire cooler in the elevator so they were cleaning it up, which prevented the elevator to close. She came running around the corner like there was a fire saying you have to let the elevator go mind you the entire cooler was spilled all over the elevator. We were still in the elevator had to ride it back up. And it was hot. The pool is yet to be desirable closed early. I wish the restaurant was more open. To the ocean

Loved being able to park there at the hotel. Loved the room being right on the oceanfront. Not a scent of any kind of smoke except 2 guest who lit up right outside the front of the entrance, WHY STINK UP FRESH AIR?!?!? Smoke in your car with the windows UP! Had to call for service to the toilet not flushing completely twice.

The room was clean. The staff was very polite. The beach view was amazing. The hotel overlooked the beach soccer setup for a major tournament and intersects 21st Street, an active section of the beach. There was adequate parking in the front lot and I heard the staff explaining other parking areas to another patron. I would recommend this property on its accessibility to the beach. There is also a restaurant on site but I did not get a chance to check it out because we opted for other local favorites. We will consider it on another visit. Overall, I would support the property again.

Terrific location with very close beach access. Staff was very helpful and nice. Rooms could use a little updating, mainly the bathroom but not terrible. There were quite a few long hairs in various places (wall, floor, shower) in the bathroom but fairly clean overall. A good value for this time of year.

Our stay was comfortable. Place was clean, staff was friendly and helpful. Just a couple of things. In the sink area, the plug for the hairdryer was broken, as was the hairdryer, Also, maybe a coffee/tea bar in the lobby would be great. But our stay was nice, very convenient to many restaurants and shopping and of course, the beach!

We arrived at 3:00, one hour after check-in, and our room was not ready. We were told we would receive a call or text when the room was ready. We sat on the beach for three hours. No call and no text. When we returned to the front desk, they said they had tried to call me. That was untrue. No one called or texted me.

The staff is the absolute best, from the front desk Taylor, Miss Lori to Tanya at the restaurant. Loved the private balcony and the view was amazing, especially the sunrise. It needs to be renovated- From the bathroom and the running toilet to the broken tp roll dispenser. The ac unit was barely holding on the wall but it worked!

Again, it’s a good stay for just a weekend and a place to lay at night but nothing amazing.

The bed and pillows in our room were pretty good. We were on a private balcony with an ocean view, when you walk downstairs, there is an entrance directly to the boardwalk and ocean beach. Most amenities were in walking distance The bathrooms were in disrepair. The caulking for the shower and sink were molding and peeling. The shower was short and the fixtures had bad scale going on. The water pressure was decent but the toilets don’t flush well. Overall, everything seemed old and ocean racked. Also, we had to park a block over because there wasn’t enough parking- it was still private at least. Oh, and our blow dryer caught fire because it’s old and not maintained.

I would recommend staying here because the staff are very friendly, the hotel is clean, quiet, on the boardwalk, the beach is clean and the Sea Salt Grill is in the hotel and a great place to eat!

The hotel sits on the beach, but the staff was rude and did not have a room that we paid for- insisted the room we had was an upgrade, when there was only one bed with ocean view- not 2 as we had requested. Plenty of other hotels to stay in area.

When we first checked in, it was a little bit before 4 PM. The parking lot was very small not a lot of on-site parking we had to pull into a handicap spot to be able to check in and we weren’t even checked fully in and we were already being asked to move our car we hadn’t unloaded anything and the staff that asked that was very rude. It’s a very outdated hotel needs to be renovated to brought up to standard. The rooms were OK. The bathroom is very very small. You cannot shut the door while you are peeing again very small. The shower very outdated. The showerhead was nasty. There was a rust hole in the bathtub. The bathtub area needed to be recaulked. The beds were horrible. The mattresses slid all over the place. They were just sitting on top of metal or metal bed frames. They moved very uncomfortable. But it was a decent room. It was OK. The view was great. The area was fantastic but again the hotel is very outdated and needs a big remodel and update.

This place was excellent! I was very pleased with the cleanliness and upkeep of the room. The housekeepers really do a great job & the desk staff is so friendly. Plus it’s connected to a restaurant so great access to food. This is my 2nd time here and i will always book the capes!

I also really enjoyed the restaurant downstairs. The food was amazing and decent priced. The staff at the desk and the restaurant were extremely friendly. The only complaint I have is the bed in the standard room are not comfortable. It’s my fault for booking late and that’s all they had available. The first time me and my husband stayed here, we were in the queen room with the whirlpool. The whirlpool was lovely and the bed was comfy.

The Capes Hotel has an excellent location on the VA beach boardwalk and great views from the ocean-facing balconies. However, the pros basically stop there. A few of the outstanding cons are the dated and dilapidated rooms (our tub had a rusty hole in it), stained blankets and furniture, the lack of toiletries typically available at this price level (e.g. no hand/body lotion), constant smell of marijuana in the hallways, and poor WiFi signal. After expressing our concerns to the management, their only solution was to offer us a free night. Why would I want to stay another night in a terrible hotel? One bright spot in this unpleasant experience was the cheery and helpful front desk team member, Vicky. She always greeted us with a smile and went out of her way to show kindness to us. Unfortunately, that is not enough to make us ever want to stay here again.

It was beachfront. The beds were terribly hard. It was a weird layout which made even getting the luggage cart in the room very hard, we were only able to get it through the doorway before it hit the bed. You literally had to go all the way into the bathroom, against the tub to shit the bathroom door because it was so small. The toilet paper holder was broken off the wall. The in room phone did not work.

Not much. Location is about it Cleanliness is bad. Mold/mildew. Hair in shower and on linens. Trash from previous guests still in the room. Upstairs it sounded like someone was rearranging a room late night near midnight. Strong marijuana odor all night.

Only downside really was the early closing time for the grill and more modernized vending machines.

After being screwed by the Wyndham Garden in Norfolk, the Capes was a pleasant relief. Everything was excellent.

Our fifth floor oceanfront balcony had space and a great view. The only two negatives I experienced (Which were both mentioned in previous reviews I had read before I booked) were: 1. The bed was definitely not firm and solid 2. The walls are very thin and other guests noise & movements are easily heard.

Older hotel but property and rooms have been well kept and updated. Kitchenette with mini fridge, small microwave, traditional coffee maker with starter coffee, cabinets, and sink great for mini meals or reheating leftovers from last night's restaurant. Onsite cafe/restaurant currently offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner is intimate with 3 oceanfront tables inside plus a small bar and more seating outside. Service was great and gave off the impression it was family owned or employees were very close-knit. Indoor pool was small but big enough for a refreshing splash. Nice area off the lobby with seating used for fresh ground coffee in the morning. Coffee machine had a plethora of choices. My favorite... fench vanilla with a shot of chocolate. All rooms ocean front so not a bad view in the house. Location on block 20 so right at the center of the boardwalk. Rates below most comparable hotels I viewed so good value too! I recommend for couples or small families.

I only stay at The Capes when I go to VA BEACH. It’s affordable, direct access to the beach, EXCELLENT staff and service, very kind and welcoming. They provide 5 star service although the hotel and rooms are a bit dated. They make you feel important and valued, that goes a long way with me.

I’ve stayed at a few properties on Virginia Beach over the years and none I’d go back to. However, The Capes is on my list of hotels I’d rebook. The rooms were clean; the property was clean. The indoor pool was warm and seemed pretty clean. They offer an on-site restaurant. I did not try this time around so I can’t speak to the food there. They also offer ample parking that is easily accessible. I guess if I were to offer one thing I’d like to see, it’d be a soap rack in the shower or towel rack on wall by the sink, nit picky but I figured I’d throw it out there. The staff was very friendly as well. Great stay!

I’ve stayed at a few properties on Virginia Beach over the years and none I’d go back to. However, The Capes is on my list of hotels I’d rebook. The rooms were clean; the property was clean. The indoor pool was warm and seemed pretty clean. They offer an on-site restaurant. I did not try this time around so I can’t speak to the food there. They also offer ample parking that is easily accessible. I guess if I were to offer one thing I’d like to see, it’d be a soap rack in the shower or towel rack on wall by the sink, nit picky but I figured I’d throw it out there. The staff was very friendly as well. Great stay!

While the hotel maintained a commendable level of cleanliness throughout the property, several aspects of my stay were disappointing. The bed was notably uncomfortable, which made restful sleep difficult. Additionally, I found the hotel staff to be somewhat overbearing and intrusive when checking in.

Property was clean and staff were friendly. The location was great. The hotel is dated though. I would come back knowing that the friendly staff makes up for the older hotel. They could upgrade their in room coffee to a better brand or have coffee in the lobby.

I’m giving a 5 star review because I really liked the staff, I thought the room was clean, the location was wonderful, the amenities (pool, restaurant, proximity to the beach/ main strip, parking) were all great. However, the condition of the property wasn’t great. Flooring, paint, and lighting were probably the biggest downsides, these were just dated. All in all, the place didn’t feel modern or fresh, but everything was as advertised and the front desk staff and the housekeeping were exceptionally nice.

Friendly staff! Right on the boardwalk and the ocean view was great. Not the comfiest before the newest property, but the price and experience made up for those things. Would stay again!

It is a well managed hotel. We were upgraded to a family room. The room was pretty old but other than that everything was great.

Staff was great they were friendly and helpful! The hotel is old and in need of renovation, nothing is updated. Beds were uncomfortable and pillows were flat. Not even for the price would I stay here again.

This was a budget friendly hotel during the off season. Im not sure how it would be in season due to only 1 elevator and small hallway at the elevator. Bathroom was small but the rest of the room was sufficient. Beds were comfortable and the balcony was good.

Everyone at the front desk was very nice. We had 2 rooms, both were clean. My only complaint is the beds are very noisey because the mattress sits on a metal frame that creaks loudly. I still give our stay a 4 out of 5

Attentive and helpful staff. It’s an older hotel, but is kept up rather well. The oceanfront balcony is lovely! There was an odd odor in the hallway on the 5th floor at times.

The hotel was nice. Construction on the beach in front of the hotel was kind of a bummer. But overall it was good for the price.

My kids and I stayed here for the Shamrock Half and I probably wouldn't return. The property is very dated and the surrounding area is a little odd. Vape store and weird museum across the street. Upon check in, I requested extending parking on Sunday, due to the race since a late check out wasn't an option. The front desk assistant said that for $10 in cash right then, she could arrange it. The next day, the new assistant didn't ask for cash and kindly extended the parking. We didn't feel entirely safe and the beds were noisy. Every time you move, the odd springs make loud noises. I feel badly, but that's the truth and wish I knew sooner and could have made a reservation at another hotel.

Was a great place to stay for an overnight on a long journey from Florida to Maryland. Great ocean view from room. Great to be right on the boardwalk. Very very reasonable price via Hotels.com. Nice people at front desk.Would seriously consider going back for a long weekend in the summer and/or fall.

The hotel was not worth the price. The bed was terrible it was basically a mattress on a box. It kept sliding every time we moved. The tub had a big burn spot in the middle. Everything about my room was outdated, the microwave took forever to heat food. The refrigerator wasn’t even cool. I will never stay at Capes again.

It was awful! Besides having unwanted roommates, called cockroaches, and the room smelled like smoke. Customer service was terrible and did not help out.

Toilet fill valve not working. Hair dryer not working. Very firm mattress with no box spring on some kind of metal platform? Was visiting family for Xmas so didn’t spend much time in room.

Been going there multiple years and they never disappoint. Great all around!

Customer service was great, the staff was welcoming, personable and very helpful. Unfortunately the hotel itself was run down, dirty and smelled awful.

Just OK for the cost. Location was very good. No free breakfast was a let down. Restaurant didn’t open till 8:00 am. Early riser. Overall average stay. Would stay again if it was all that was available.

The state is what you would about expect for the location, but the hotel is a bit rundown stains in the tub carpet extremely dirty. It was a heavy odor of marijuana in the hallways. I imagine that $400 is the average rate but expectation was much higher than reality Due to its location parking is a bit of a challenge. The staff was wonderful and a very decent restaurant on the first floor. The indoor pool was extremely sandy, but due to the proximity of the ocean and people not having the discipline to wash themselves off prior to getting into the pool , left it dirty. The beds are uncomfortable and the size is small to twin beds and the mattress slides around on a metal frame which if not careful you could hurt yourself getting in and out of the bed. I don’t give me wrong. It wasn’t a terrible experience, but it wasn’t what I considered above average .

This hotel is old and the furniture is outdated. The pool is filthy full of sand. The elevator was always wet from guest walking from pool and beach. The cheap mattress almost made this trip unbearable.

I like it because its ocean front and very convenient

The facility itself is kind of beat, its older and shows it. The restaurant on the beachside has good food and friendly helpful people. The view from the beachfront balcony was excellent. The location is right next to public bathrooms and general access, right where the Norfolk-VA Beach Highway drops traffic. That makes it very crowded and congested nearby. There were quite a few homeless sleeping and living on benches in the immediate vicinity. Tough situation.

Room is badly in need of refurbishment. The bathroom needs a full upgrade. Patio furniture is in bad shape too. Carpeting is stained also.

Really enjoyed the amazing location with a beach view from the room balcony, the property was super close to food, nightlife, and boardwalk activities, the staff was really helpful and accommodating. The only downside was that our bathroom shower curtain had mold towards the edges at the bottom and the bathroom was very small and outdated.

To be clear this is not a 5 star resort, but you get a nice clean room for a great price. Rooms had some updates but weren’t high end finishes. Bathroom could use some work, but was good for me. Rooms came with a microwave and a mini fridge and a separate “kitchen” sink. Heater/air conditioner were updated recently. Vending machines were available but kind of a sad little vending area. I like hotels that have a small shop area, but this is hardly a deal breaker with all the shops nearby. The pool looked ok, little small but my guess is that the kids would have fun with it. Plus you are there for the beach.

I loved the staff, my room, the accessibility to everything I needed. My room had a great view of the boardwalk. I did not have to wait on the elevator and there were no disturbances. I will definitely return.

Neat place to stay! Breakfast at the grill was wonderful, especially sitting out on the patio to eat it. With this hotel being on the beach, it is around a lot of tourists attractions. Being around during “off season” it wasn’t too busy and parking was easy!

Exceeded expectations! Great restaurant on premises. Want a three-bed option for your family right on the boardwalk with an ocean view…they got ya covered. Would def come back!

We got a family suite at a good rate. The room was really big and on the water, centrally located. Staff were nice and engaging.

A micromanager, who rules with an iron fist. The staff cannot answer the simplest question without checking with her. Absolutely ZERO idea of customer service!!! Restaurant had no breakfast at 8:00am and cold coffee for $3.50 served with a frown too. Parking fees in the off season and a block away from the hotel when their lot on-site was empty! Unless you need a hot tub stay away!!!

Suppose to be a couple day get away but the trooical storm had other plans for us. Hotel was good. Front Desk was super friendly and helpful. Would defstay again
