Hampton Inn Virginia Beach-Oceanfront South

My family and i took a short 48 hour weekend trip to Virginia Beach. This was my first time ever going to Virginia Beach as well as my toddlers first experience of the beach. We had a wonderful stay at the Hampton inn. The rooms were clean but of course i still did my own additional cleaning however i did not find anything outrageously dirty. The breakfast was ok, we mainly had waffles and cereal every morning. Overall i give the hotel a 9/10. The indoor pool was the only thing we did not like. We will be staying here again in the future

Whatever you do... DO NOT go out the door in the stairwell that says it's an exit to the beach, no re-entry. Because the part about no re-entry is correct but the exit door to the beach is LOCKED. This is a very unfortunate fire hazard and I was stuck in the cement corridor. I only had one bar on my cell service but it was enough to make a phone call to the front desk where thankfully Tee (Tee was great all throughout my stay) was available to come rescue me from being trapped in the corridor.

Enjoyed the cozy and clean room. The breakfast was delicious and had good times that it was available. The staff were friendly and helpful. The workout room was amazing, lots of equipment fior a smaller space. The price was reasonable for this time of year. They included a welcome message with your name on the tv screen saver; very charming. I really enjoyed my stay and look forward to doing so again. I thought the parking fee was included in the booking package; (presented as such), however there were additional fees during check-in. A small portion of the parking fee (incident fee) was refunded. There were some stains on my curtains that were a bit unpleasant, however the overall room cleanliness made up for it.

The place was big and clean. But just two elevators for the entire place could be hectic , we were there during the week so it wasn't so crazy but I think if it were the weekend it would have been annoying waiting for the elevator. The breakfast was okay but not as great as the other reviews said , but it was something to have. The pool was smaller in person but it was great. The room was also awesome and felt very clean. I loved the small details they left on the TV and the texts they send to check on you. The staff was friendly and seemed to want to help at all times. Overall will be back in the future !

The view is great! We could sit out on the balcony or see the ocean from our bed! We got to see dolphins during sunrise, it was amazing! The breakfast was decent, options for everyone (even my picky kid) - they also had little “On the Go” breakfast bags, which I thought was super cute! Chico’s restaurant downstairs was pretty good! Pizza and pub style food items. We usually stay on the North end of the beach, but we really enjoyed the south end this time - not as much chaos. The pool was smaller, but we got the whole pool to ourselves since we stayed during the week. We will definitely stay again when we come back next year!

The property itself was clean and great location! Nice to wake up to a beach view! Unfortunately, the area itself was not what I call family friendly. A lot of younger people that were rude. Lots of marijuana smoking, loud music, racing cars and motorcycles up and down the strip. Not very much police presence. Even on the boardwalk there were numerous homeless panhandling and smoking marijuana. Just not a very nice environment for a family. Definitely did not feel safe.

The staff were very kind and helpful. We loved easy access to the beach and the fact that the parking garage is connected to the hotel rather than having to park across the street. Breakfast was also delicious. Thanks so much for making our stay wonderful!

The Hampton Inn is by far one of the best!

We had a wonderful time. The rooms were very clean. All the employees were very helpful and friendly. The girl at the front desk during the day was extremely helpful! The beds were very comfortable. I slept like a rock. We will stay there again.

Check in and check out was very easy. Their breakfast is outstanding. All the staff were very friendly and pleasant. And our room was nice and clean. The only thing I didn’t like was that they charge you $20 a day to park in THEIR garage. You would think as a guest, you would get free parking.

We stayed in the ocean front suite with 2 queen beds + pullout sleeper couch. We loved out spacious, opened and roomy it was for our family of 4. It also included 2 balconys. The complimentary breakfast was good and being right in front of the beach was perfect. We would definitely stay here again!

The room was nice and clean. The beach view was beautiful. The staff were helpful. The charge of $20.00 per night for parking on the premises was not acceptable, especially since we were not aware of the extra charge.

We enjoyed our room. It was clean and modern with a small fridge that held sufficient space for food. The bathroom sink had a large counter with plenty of room for toiletries. The view from the room patio of the Boardwalk and ocean was amazing! Breakfast was good with ample variety. We especially enjoyed the comfortable seating arrangement. We appreciated the lemon water and coffee and tea that was available all day long. The parking garage was very convenient. Would definitely stay there again!

Apart from that it was comfortable and my family enjoyed it. Some of the access doors to the garage creeks when you open it, it may be a problem for people residing next to it.

The buffet breakfast is excellent and they have tons of room to eat. My room was on the beach with the ocean as my view out the back door and on the balcony. I would absolutely stay here again. Evelyn expertly accommodated us as we needed extra space for parking because we were hauling a car on a trailer with an oversized truck. Thank you for everything.

The late night staff was professional and courteous. They also assisted me with all my questions. The room was nice and comfortable.

Breakfast was good. Staff very friendly and accommodating especially Chris- we extended our stay and they let us stay in our original room even though it technically wasn't available. Great location and the grounds were nice. Being able to park in the garage next to your floor was definitely helpful. Bathroom was not cleaned well, there was hair on the walls and soapdish in the shower as well as the toilet.

This is a really nice Hampton Inn right on the waterfront with clear view of the ocean, and there's a nice restaurant overlooking it, I don't usually travel and stay at Hampton Inn, but this is one of the handful of Hampton Inns that are really nice and well worth the money and much more affordable. I would stay there again if I am in VA and it's on the quieter side of the Virginia Beach strip on the south end.

Breakfast was decent and different items both days we stayed which was nice. Pool was small but when you have the ocean do you need a pool? The biggest downfall was the overwhelming smell of marijuana. We come from a state where it is illegal and as it is still prevalent in public places in our state, we are not used to the smell 24/7. The hotel had signs posted that it was a "smoke free" facility, but they obviously don't enforce it because we could smell it on the balcony, in the hallways, and in the elevator. Luckily our room didn't smell though. Just not something I want to smell while I'm on vacation with my kids.

Room felt modern and comfortable. Clean. App check-in was a helpful feature. Steps to the beach is always lovely. McDonald's breakfast would feel like an upgrade, nutrition-wise. Free breakfast is always welcome at a budget hotel, but the ingredient quality has started to feel like it's manufactured without any real ingredients. I'll gladly skip the free breakfast as a feature next time and go with another hotel. Also, having a parking lot with a very visible but locked door and no clear explanation of how to get to the front desk seems like an unforced error. Felt trapped in the garage for a good 10 minutes.

They advertised an "indoor swimming pool". However, after they received my payment for hotel holds. Had I known that the pool was closed, I would have secured another hotel.

We would stay again. Everything was great. The pool experience was a little rough because I large group was in there screaming and jumping in the pool but not hotel fault. Food for breakfast was great. A little tricky with the parking but not bad. Rooms were perfect. My favorite was the balcony and being able to walk out onto the beach. Close to Everything. Was the best vacation ever.

Oceanfront and great views. Walking distance from pretty much everything with fun things to do all around. The toilet did not flush properly and would sometimes not flush at all. There were weird stains on the walls, like not at the bottom they were up high on the walls.

The view of the beach and proximity to good restaurants was perfect. Breakfast was excellent and the hotel was very clean and updated.

The whole property smells like wet sewer. No real lobby and seating for waiting customers. Would not recommend stay at your own risk. Sounds like a dog pound when you get on your floor.

Did not stay at this hotel @ checkin there was no lobby just an over size desk to greet customers Going to the room the hallway smelled like wet cat. The room was an open concept I reserved a suite thinking I was getting a separate bedroom from the kitchen/livingroom. My first time experiencing this hotel and I won’t be back.

This was such a nice hotel! We loved everything about it! We stayed on the 6th floor and the view was phenomenal, tho people say the view from the 10th floor was the best-we were absolutely happy where we were at. Beds were comfy, bathroom was stocked and really nice. We stayed here for four nights and could have been there longer. The beach near the hotel was also very beautifully maintained. Super happy!

First of all, I booked this hotel of the their good reviews about cleanliness, and it didnt disappoint. The lobby, the room, the bathroom, the hallway carpet are clean and doesnt smell musty or old. The breakfast was good. They have 3 waffle makers which saves you from waiting in line. I love the location which is more family friendly. Its not noisy and over crowded. They have a laundry room which is very helpful if your are staying longer. We will be back for sure in this property.

We checked in on Thursday, May 21st and were to check out on the 25th. By Saturday evening, someone checked in in the neighboring room with a dog. The dog barked several times through the evening. We wake up Sunday morning, we were awaken by the dog barking again. I went to the counter and the solution I was given was we will speak to the person. Sunday evening, the dog starts barking again when we are trying to go to sleep. This time, we get the solution of we will try to talk to then again, but we haven't had any luck contacting them. Then we were offered to move rooms and they would credit our parking. Those are not real solutions. Why should we be moved? Again. We get waken again Monday morning due to the dog barking again. This was an awful experience. Also, the bed was super uncomfortable.

The location and the ease of checking in. I also liked the parking area. My room was on the 3rd floor and I was able to park on the 3rd floor of the parking garage and go in and to my room with ease. The shower was making a horrible noise.

Our go to hotel at VA Beach. Nice rooms, right on the boardwalk, pet friendly, great breakfast. Friendly staff. Nice parking garage that is well worth paying for. Highly recommend staying here.

I only stayed for 1 night. I loved the convenience of how close I was was to the garage..... Atreyu (my dog did not, especially at 6am when everyone was moving around) noted, I'll just ask for a room on a top lvl or not near a garage door. The room was clean, the view was beautiful. I loved the attention to detail. I didn't have breakfast because I wasn't feeling well since I didn't sleep well, those doors are really loud and I was surrounded by 4 that were constantly opening and closing from other guests. To be honest even without Atreyu barking I wld hv heard every door close anyway. I would definitely recommend staying more than 1 night, it was my 1st time in Virginia Beach and I was not ready for what to expect. Now I know 3 nights would be ideal for my next trip. I hv stayed at the Hilton hotels before and love that they allow pets, but I have noticed that most of the time I'm put at a far end where people aren't in and out all the time. This may have been an oversight by the staff this time. I feel bad for everyone who had to hear him going off.... but.... they knew I had a dog and should've maybe been put in a farther corner with less traffic. If I was gonna be there for more than 1 night I wld hv had them move me. Otherwise great hotel everywhere I've stayed!

Fantastic stall with a great sized room with a beautiful view.

We had a good rest. The service staff was polite. Breakfast was as usual, a bit monotonous. In the room stood a chair crooked on one leg. My husband had to put something down to sit and drink coffee. But these are little things. Overall we had a good stay. And we are thinking of returning one more time.

The hotel was clean, the staff was nice, the breakfast was overall pretty good with enough options for each individual. The beach view was just beautiful but my favorite part was the fact that I could bring my pup. And being that my pup is usually on the “breed restrictions” list, it was wonderful to be able to bring her and not have to worry about it!

Room and shower was dirty, breakfast food wasn’t replenished with a fully booked hotel, cheer competition brought a ton of noise throughout the night. Only 1 elevator was working. Parking was awful with an oversized truck as people didn’t know how to read and small cars were parking in spots labeled oversized vehicles only.

Once I walked into the room and saw the ocean, nothing else mattered. I didn't close the curtain the entire stay.

Room was renovated and clean with an updated bath and shower. Great view of the ocean overlooking the boardwalk. Extremely quite being close to 5he beach. Chichos restaurant was conveniently located near the lobby and the food was really great and yet inexpensive for the beach.

A very old and tired Hampton Inn. Maybe the worst I’ve ever stayed in. Not particularly clean, noisy guests, dangerous parking lot and tired facilities.

Parking with 2 electric outlet for car is top for car charging thank you Staff is ok , can be better. Heater and ac very noisy.

Everything was great! The staff was amazing, especially Evelyn.. I locked my keys in the car at check-out and she made sure our belongings were safe and secure while we worked to resolve the car situation.

Location was great, seemed to be on the less busy end of the ocean front. Breakfast was pretty decent, 4 options aside from the basics(oatmeal, waffles, fruit, yogurt, breads) chicken sausage was a huge plus. Celeste at the front desk was so nice throughout our stay! Always a plus having a refrigerator and microwave in the room. We really enjoyed using the balcony. The cleanliness overall was good, the floors could have maybe used a better sweep and mop. The first night we got in a little late, and still wanted to give our kids a little bit of swimming time as they had been looking forward to it. We got in the pool about 10:30(knowing it closed at 11 pm) The housekeeper came in the pool area at 10:50 telling my husband we had 5 more mins as she’s mopping the floor with cleaner….. meanwhile my husband was sitting out of the pool with my baby and me and my two other children were in the pool. The smell was way too strong for all of us but especially my baby. I had to get my kids out of the pool and step straight into shoes so they weren’t stepping in floor cleaner…. Very disappointing. Second day took a while for towels to be restocked for the pool. The beds were not the slightest bit comfortable. There was a very loud noise(it seemed to be when hot water was being used) that sounded like a continuing boat horn. Obviously this not being the property’s fault but there was an event going on with high schools, teenagers flooded the hotel. Screaming all hours of the night, jumping, running the halls, doors slamming shut.

Most of the staff were friendly and responsive, one staff member was a little rude when I asked for a packet of hot chocolate one evening. She was working the check-in counter and told me no, when it's empty that's it for the day! I was really disappointed after a long cold day!

We were quite pleased with everything except we did have a damaged ironing board, and we didn't get housekeeping without stopping the lady for clean towels.

The nice staff and the cleanliness of the hotel

We have been staying at this location for many years. The stay two weeks ago, they wanted to charge for a service dog. Last night, 11/22/25, our reservation initially was again for the Surfbreak Hotel, located next to the Hampton Inn. Because I was unable to contact anyone at the Surfbreak Inn to change our reservation, due to the being closed for the season, I had to go thru Travelocity customer service to switch the reservation. Upon checking in at the Hampton Inn, I was told there was a fee for parking. I explained that in all the years of staying there, I had NEVER been charged for parking. The manager only argued that the parking fee has been in effect for years, even though I have never been charged before. The parking fee is not the issue, it’s having a manager argue about it, and NEVER having been charged previously. It may not mean squat to Hampton Inn, but this is the last night I will ever spend there! There are numerous other hotels that offer the same level of rooms and better service.

We stayed on the fifth floor with oceanfront view. The service was great. The room was clean and recently updated. Breakfast was very good with choices changing daily.

I did not eat breakfast in the hotel. I was up and out before it was served. The last day my room did not get new towels and garbage emptied but I think that may have been miscommunication with housekeeping on my part. I threw my trash away and got new towels for myself. Beautiful view. Great location. I’ll be back

Staff was great, I hurt my foot before arriving at the hotel and the staff member helped me get a bucket to that I can soak my foot before my conference the next day. I am very grateful for that. Room and view was just amazing. My only disappointment was other than the shared eating space which has a lot of tables and chairs, there was no lounge room to just relax. There were a lot of people coughing in the shared eating space so I wanted to have another place to just sit quietly, other than that it was great. Nothing thing it would be great if the hotel sold tooth paste or a-tips for convenience. There was just a lot of junk food in the lobby for sale. That’s my only complaint. Would stay there again definitely.

The room was very clean, the view was amazing, the staff was kind and courteous and the bed was superb. Only thing missing was the sunshine!

The room had black mold on the A/C unit vents, there was a bandage over the fire alert system in the room, the door appeared to be previously broken into. I have pictures of everything I just went over, because the mold caused sever sneezing and coughing

The hotel was located in a quiet safe area… Except it’s very close to the navel base so off and on throughout the day you will hear planes. The room was clean and well set up except it was a little on the small side because there was no couch to sit on. The staff did a good job, but was not overly friendly. The restaurant left some to be desired… Service was haphazard. But there was plenty to choose from. There are also many restaurants that you can walk to from the hotel. The beach was lovely. It’s only a couple hotels down from a pier. On the Pier is acquaint and lovely little gift shop. Lots of shopping within walking distance, but traveling to go to other places was very easy.

I travel by car to Virginia Beach because loss of family member .Got very late to hotel and the person who took care of us at around5am told us that reservation was canceled got us a room by attitude didnt like was so tied got up next day when to funeral has to check out early do to some issue and asked for some refund never got anything I allways stay at Hampton inn but now considering mite consider other hotels keeping costumers should be priority and satisfying. And front desk be happy polite have smile on face .The maintenance and housekeeping personel where more polite and consern of one.

Rooms seems to have been renovated within the last 10-15 years or so. Enjoyed having direct access to the beach. Rooms comfy and clean

We had a pleasant stay despite the rainy weather. The hotel had some technical issues with the doors and gym/pool closure, and the shower made a funny sound. But otherwise it was a lovely stay, beautiful view, good breakfast.

Everything was great however a few times when we had our balcony door open, a neighbor on one side would step out and smoke marajana and the smell would come in and we would have to shut door which sucked because we chose a ocean room to enjoy the breeze and sounds of water

I would have given a 9/10 rating but because of no wifi for our whole stay of 3 days i am giving them a 2/10. Everything in this hotel is convinient and bed is comfortable. Tv has a lot options. But unable to fix thier wifi fro 3 days is a big disappointment.

The view was perfect. Checking in was effortless. The personnel were courteous and very professional. They made me feel welcomed. Customer support when done right is refreshing! The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. I plan on staying here the next time I have business in this area.

Very worn, Not up to normal Hampton Inn standards. There for two nights and housekeeping never once came to our room. I had to replenish towels myself off a maid’s cart. Do not stay here!

Lots of couples with dogs but we did not hear a single bark or whine.

Overall a good hotel, what I'd expect from a Hilton. Only bad things are the shower water pressure left much to be desired and the AC system was very loud (much louder than your usual hotel ac system).

Location was perfect and plenty of beach space. Walkable to dining and shops on Atlantic Ave and the boardwalk. Less crowded than the northern boardwalk area.

Reserved room with 2 queen beds, but had 1 queen and 1 double bed.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel last August for 10 days and this August for 10 days. It is clean, modern and the staff are friendly. These are my issues. 1. If you want a comfy bed it isnt here. Beds are very uncomfortable. 2. We have an extended ford expedition and there are over sized parking spots in the garage. Yet, thus year and last small tiny cars park there and staff doesnt do anything about it. 3. The pool is a joke, like a pregnant hot tub and it is inside. There is a gorgeous pool with a bar attached to hamtons garage but it belongs to Springhill suites 25 yards away and you cant use it. 4. Pets are allowed. The room next to us and then below us had barking dogs for extended periods of time.and staff wont address it. I keep to myself and just want peace but I was sitting on my balcony and the guy in room below was smoking weed, cigarettes and dog barked for 25 minutes at 11:15 pm. I finally said something to him and he said dogs bark and his weed and cigarettes were medicinal. If I started screaming on balcony at that time for 25 minutes there would be a cop showing up because it disturbs guests. I told manager but didnt say which room because I wasnt positive and manager said not alot they can do about dogs and they put letters on the 9th and 10th floors about smoking. I smoke and I couldnt stand smell and I made the trek downsrairs, why couldnt he? Staff are friendly but seem to not want any confrontation or enforcing rules. The place is nice but I think I am

It was ok. We had some issues the first day but they resolved them. The view was great from our room (602), the hotel is right on the boardwalk. Breakfast was ok. Staff in the reception could be friendlier and the hotel is not the cleanest. We will probably go somewhere else next time.

Staff members & the guests were also friendly. However the balcony was a little dirty , it needed a power wash especially on second floor. Overall everything was clean.

We had a good stay. The only two minor complaints were 1. not a very good breakfast selection and 2. the one curtain in our room was missing the pull so you couldn't quite shut it completely without light coming in in the morning. Overall, good stay and the staff were very friendly and polite.

Breakfast was good, but so crowded at all times of the morning. Loved the ice water available in the lobby. One elevator broke so it took a long time to get back to room. The grass in front of hotel and side walk was so muddy and full of puddles—beware. Too much watering. Amazing view from room!

Note: IF you like really like a lot of pillows maybe bring a few. We’re huge pillow sleepers and they did not have extra available due to no vacancy during our stay. Just a personal preference not a critique!

Pleasant stay. We enjoyed breakfast every morning of our stay and the pool as well. The grass where the dogs can be walked was overgrown. We brought (and paid for) our dog. I wish there was a way we could coordinate for our dog to be out of the room for a time so they could clean it while we were there.

Their breakfast buffet was not the best. The main attraction were the waffle makers for kids. Room's bathroom shampoo was empty. The bathrub sealant was falling apart, it needs have new sealants. Their pathway to the beach was convenient.

The pool was indoors and very small did not seem clean and it seem we where double charged for our stay still waiting for charges to clear we where supposed to pay at the hotel according to hotel.com app but they charged the card anyway

I enjoyed my stay at this location. The staff are so nice and accommodating. We were taking our first trip with our 2 cats and they were welcomed here. All of us were comfortable and the accommodations were clean and spacious. I love hot coffee with hazelnut creamer and good food. There was around the clock coffee available (good hot coffee with hazelnut cream) and delicious breakfast on a buffet daily. I would stay again with or without my felines. I loved it here.

The AC unit is very Noisy

We were told the hotel was dog friendly so we brought our two dogs, and then we were informed we could never leave them in the room even though we had them in crates. This is NOWHERE in their policy. This forced us to spend even more money taking our dogs to a day camp so we could even go to the beach as it was just two of us with them. The area they provide to take the dogs outside is unusable in the morning as they have sprinklers set to go off, so imagine my first morning out there and I unexpectedly get sprayed by them as they turn on! I really wanted to the suite so we could have the extra space for our two dogs, and ended up struggling all week due to lack of space. In our last night, the toilet overflowed. Maintenance came to fix it, and when we asked for a mop to clean it, he refused and just wiped it up with towels. If it hadn’t been our last night I would have just left right then, that’s completely unsanitary. One of the worst hotel experiences ever.

Loved the view!! The beach was right outside. Loved the breakfast in the morning and all the options. My family and I already booked to go back next year.

The best part is the parking; we got a room on the 3rd frloor and the parking was on the same floor. Parking is free. Really good breakfast, free too. Very easy to check in and out. Hot and cold drinks are free all the time. The room is big and very comfortable.

My stay was great with the exception of the allowance for dogs. There should be rooms that pets are not allowed to stay in as people do have allergies, and although the room is clean things like curtains are not cleansed after each hotel stay which can hold pet dander.

I wouldnt stay here again. My room ac didnt work and they didnt check me in until 2 hours past check in time. When told about the issues all they offered was free parking. I only stayed 2 nights and my parking totaled 20 usd.

We have a great little (but not cramped) oceanfront room with a balcony! We appreciate the amenities, like the microwave and refrigerator. Laundry room that takes credit cards. Comfortable loveseat and desk chair, good lighting, contemporary decor. The front desk staff was warm and welcoming and we're responsive to requests. Housekeeping is very present. We appreciate that the room is not only pet friendly but allows cats, which is a main reason we chose this hotel. And not just certain rooms are let friendly, like at some hotels. Appreciate having a full service restaurant downstairs, where we enjoyed two meals, with a view of the boardwalk and beach. They serve gourmet Nightingale ice cream sandwiches from Richmond, VA, which are sooo good! The free breakfast buffet was nice and what you would expect, except that there was a regular waffle iron AND a mini four-waffle waffle iron, as well as some tasty waffle toppings. No problem parking or finding a luggage cart. At 10th Street, we're not in the middle of everything, but we're on the boardwalk and the trolley stops at the next block. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available for rent on the beach. Bring your own beach towel, because they are not provided.

Kids, not a big drop to get to the ocean. Parking Garage was a plus. Highly recommend !!

Second year staying with Hampton Inn for the music festival Point Break. I will be booking Hampton Inn for next year, because of the stellar employees on staff and the sense of safety I feel at this hotel.

Overall good stay. Breakfast is always pretty good, rooms are semi updated and the staff is very friendly. They have their own parking garage which is pretty secure and it is very convenient to close by attractions and restaurants. The place was fairly clean in general. The toiletries provided in the bathrooms were very nice. Cons: beds were very uncomfortable, bedding was old/yellowing, door to the balcony was hard to operate, pillows were not good, only two elevators making it hard to come and go, and breakfast area should be bigger for the occupancy size.

My only gripe is the dog on the floor that barked for 2 days straight, assuming the owners left it while they vacay’d on the boardwalk. If not for that I’d give the stay 6 stars

The water pressure in the shower was great!!

We loved the room it self and the location of the hotel. The breakfast is very highly recommended. The complementary water as you walk in is a plus. And a very easy working elevator. The staff was really nice and easy to talk to and out shower was amazing. However the WiFi could be better and the phone service worked everywhere but the room which was weird. But it’s a silver lining. We also stayed on the 4th and had the best clearest view of them from the balcony. We would stay again

Our room was great and quiet! The pool had a weird film on it so we didn’t use that at all but others were.

Great for families with pets. Chicho’s is downstairs, but the one in downtown Norfolk is better.
