We checked in and on the walk up the 3 sets of stairs, I could tell this wasn't very maintained. Inside the room it was FILTHY. Looked as if it was never cleaned. Stained cupboards and floors. Filthy cloth chairs and couch. I immediately contacted hotels.com and after a 20 min wait they told us to contact the property. While waiting we noticed bugs on the floor. AI says they were cockroach nymphs. We immediately went to desk and were told that because we stayed for almost an hour that they couldn't refund the full stay. We packed our stuff back into the car and left. The place is horrendous. Do NOT be fooled by the pictures and location. A true roach motel.

I don't know how this place passes any kind of inspection in order to stay in business. The first room they gave us was rank with smoke. The second room we got had definitely been smoked in recently but not as bad as the first. The floors haven't been mopped in a long time. Our feet were gross from walking barefoot so we wore our shoes inside. The AC blew lukewarm air and could not be changed to a different setting or turned off. The covers on the bed were as thin as a sheet and not adequate. The water in the bathroom sink only dribbled out. The hair dryer did not work. The towels have been worn thin. The walls were thin and you could hear everything from next door. There were ducks swimming and pooping in the pool. Late on the first night, a Va. Beach local person knocked on our door and was surprised when I opened the door.

This place was completely filthy and disgusting. There was dried feces on the bathroom door and the rooms reeked of smoke and body odor. I immediately canceled my reservation and found another hotel.

The pool had hair and cigarette butts in it. The room was NOT anything like what was advertised on Expedia. The whole place smelled like cigarette smoke. Nothing had been cleaned. Had to wait a whole day for towels. Staff was absolutely useless. The place was a sh!t hole and wasn't worth a free stay. Police even showed up to handle a disturbance. Couch was falling apart. Chairs looked like they had been chewed by rats and the upholstery looked like someone had sh!t on them. Wires were spliced and held together with PLASTIC BAGS creating a fire hazard. Front deadbolt would not lock, nor would the top extra lock. My husband and I probably got the hantavirus there. We most likely need rabies shots. This is the most disgusting place I have ever seen in my life. Do not book here.

Ac unit didn’t work fully it was hot in the room! The bathtub had no faucet set and poor pressure. Black mold growing on ceiling in room. Beds hard as a rock. We had four people they gave us two towels and one wash rag. Microwave door fell off no center piece to spin around for food to cook. Staff was no so pleasant. Pool not well maintained stuff floating all in top of water.

We checked in. We walked up to our room. On the 2nd floor was a unkept woman in pajamas smoking a cigarette. We got to the 3rd floor and passed a room where the door had been kicked in(by the police a couple weeks prior). Dogs were barking and a guy was pacing and arguing with himself and poi ting at the wall. This place should be torn down. If I could have gotten a refund I would have. We stayed 5 minutes and checked out and went to another hotel. For what we paid here and the other hotel we could have stayed at rhe Hyatt.

Well at 12:30 the police was outside and a SWAT team ready to kick in doors. My kids were scared they had to hide in the bathroom because of the noise and them kicking the door in. No one from the office call to say stay in your room nothing they act like it was a regular old day. This is the first day when I checked in no toilet paper was in the room. To get toilet paper it took me calling the office over and over and over until they finally answer the phone.

Nastiest room i have ever seen. Actuality feared for my life when a drug dealer almost beat the next door rooms door off demanding him money all night. Do not stay there

Latch on door was broken and ripped off- I ended up barricading my room with one of the chairs in the room. I pulled back sheets on the bed and there were yellow and brown stains throughout. Room next door was incredibly loud throughout the night, to the point where the police showed up around 3am.

It was absolutely terrible. Pillow was dirty. Dogs in surrounding eooms barking and whining all night. People dighting and slamming doors. I left first thing in the morning(stay waa for 2 nights). Turned key in and told staff it was terrible ans just got stared at like i neced spoke.

Bloody towels with burns on them. Easy to hear loud neighbors. Dogs barking in rooms. Microwave didnt work. No coffee or soap to wash with other than hand soap on the sink. Very small parking area. Uncomfortable bed. Pretty much what you would expect for a cheap motel but with the luxury of being close to the beach and boardwalk.

The facility had trash piled up under the stair well about 5 feet tall. The other occupants that seemed to live there full time were EXTREMELY loud and played rap music at the highest volume in the public passage ways all day and night. In addition to the loud music, there was a couple screaming at one another off and on throughout our stay as well as a dog that barked non stop.

I travel with service dog and had no problems. There was nefarious shady characters hanging around...they don't bother you. Don't engage. The owner kicked them all out. Best time to visit? October thru Dec. Best rates. I have stayed here before and this is my second stay with Alamar. SUPERB!

I knew the type of motel I was buying into, and it wasn't the worst I've seen. For what it was it was clean, A/C and fridge worked. We got locked out of our room bc the key wouldn't work and had to ring for help. We found out there's a privacy switch on the door lock that will lock out all keys except the master key. I would think it'd be beneficial to label it that way so lockouts at 2am don't happen. The whole vibe of the place and the people hanging around and/or living there just gave me and my daughter the heebie jeebies and we decided to leave and drive home early. I don't think we spent more than an hour total actually in the room. I'm glad I only paid $30 out of pocket for it, otherwise I'd be asking for a refund bc that's about all it's worth.

The Picture on website did not accurately represent real life. I had a difficult time finding my room as it did not have number on it. When I went to the room, the tub was dirty and the toilet seat was broken. I will not be going back.

And, though I booked online, front desk staff tried to charge me $10 additional during check in for amenities such as the pool, which I had no intention of using during my 1 night stay.

There was absolutely no parking, the room looked like it hadn’t been used or touched in years. It was disguising, only amenity that was given that was advertised was the outdoor pool and that was filthy. There was not one thing that looked like it did in the pictures on trivago or Expedia. Place should be shut down. The only pleasant experience was from the two night employees that checked us in. They were very helpful and personable.

Room had everything I needed , bed, fridge, bathroom. Even tho not good quality for the price I had everything I needed to stay there a few nights. Could have better quality items in room. Couch had an awful smell like mold or cat pee. Sink leaked, bed pretty uncomfortable with super old pillows. I pretty much packed everything I needed for the room so it was fine for the price.

Its very close to the beach only a block away, the owners were nice and let us check in a bit earlier, rooms were big and comfortable. For the price its a great place to stay. I know some reviews say about roaches, but we had none of that. It was pretty clean. Not a big issue but should move the beds when they clean for next guests because underneath was pretty dirty and sticky with some broken glass, but other than that it was a decent place.

The AC in room 309 did not work nor did the microwave work. They gave me a fan but would not accommodate if the weather was extremely hot

When I was checking in ,they tried to charge me $16.00 when it said clearly on my reservation $10.00. TV wasn't working and they did fix it quickly. Someone had a big speaker blasting their type of music at the pool so loud that you could not get away from it. I called the office at 10:00pm to have them turn the muisic off. All they did was turn it down. I called at 11:00pm to find out when pool closed because now young children (10-12years old) were playing in pool yelling and screaming. I was told the pool closed at 10pm . I asked the person on the phone why people were still using the pool area when it is suppose to be closed.They made the people leave pool area and shut off music. My wife and I finally was able to go to sleep around 11:30pm. Not excepable. Will not be back.

The service was great. Floors were sandy and we had to buy mattress pads for the sofa bed. It was very uncomfortable. The queen bed was great. kids loved the pool. Close to the beach too. We had a very nice stay overall.

This place was the most disgusting place I have ever stayed in . To sum it up , room smelled full of smoke, made front desk aware , they gave me an air refreshner . This was the only thing close to the boardwalk . They refuse to give a refund . Indian manager was rude , including his wife, tell me they have to wake up in the morning . Not to mention the guest next to our room was banging on the door cussing and fighting ! This MOTEL, is not fit for animals , I am going to report this place to the better business bureau ! What a shame !! Ps the pictures are nothing like the actual place DONOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME

The proximity to everything was great. This place is close to the beach. There are many shops and restaurants within walking distance as well. The bed was comfortable, and the shower was good. We called ahead to request an early check-in. When we got to our room, the bed was made, but the sheets were dirty. They had crumbs of food on them, which told us that the sheets had not been washed or changed from the prior guests. The bathroom was also dirty. There was a large streak of something down the mirror that easily came off. There were remnants of the soap discs that they gave out on the tubs surface, and the floor was dirty. This room was dirty. The woman at the front desk was more than happy to give us clean sheets, and told us to ask if we needed anything else. She also said the room would get cleaned the next day. That did not happen. We could also hear the beeping of a smoke detector that needed its batteries changed. I would not recommend staying at this property. I guess you get what you pay for.

I loved how friendly the family was. They were very kind when we had to switch rooms and very patient . The only issue we had was the room we ended up with was invested with cockroaches. At night they came out and were all over our stuff. We had to shake everything out and wash before we went home. Otherwise really enjoyed the place. Just could be cleaner.

Excellent ...wish I was staying longer. I will go back. A block from the beach and in the middle of everything VA Beach has to offer. I arrived early, but the staff/owner was extremely friendly and made the utmost effort to ensure everything was to my liking. The room was huge and would have been great for an extended stay, as it had everything you could want or need. The pool was very clean and was popular with all the guests. Plenty of parking. The Alamar Resort Inn is a gem, and the staff is the best. Thanks again.

Broken bathroom and walls! Air conditioner was not working

I was allowed to change room to a lower level, but new room was almost empty. No closet, microwave, toiletries, hair dryer, iron, ice, extra lock on door and a small fridge that only kept food cool.

WARNING!!! Do not stay here!! The pool had green swamp water and it smelled so bad the pictures are fake!! This place is a dump!! They have roaches the sheets looked dirty and gross i asked for my money back and they refused !! I had to pay to stay in different hotel because it was awful!!!

I booked a non-smoking room with a kitchenette so I could make meals during my stay. My room was not clean when I arrived, so I was given room 100. My keycard did not work for this room, so I was given a smoking room without a stove. The first night, I was promised I could switch rooms the following day, but the switch was delayed another day. The third day I finally switched to room 106, but it was in very poor condition. The shower was small and dirty, and there were stains on the shower curtain. The tiles were cracked and repaired unprofessionally, and the shower knob fell off when I tried to turn it. In the kitchen, only one burner actually worked, and similar to the shower the knob of the second burner came out while attempting to turn it. They included a backup plug-in stove, which was dirty, had only one functioning burner, and smoked heavily when heating. The dishwasher had a yellow wire sticking out of the front panel, so I was afraid to use it at all. Bedding is extremely thin and furniture is stained. It seems that some people use this place as a party spot, as people often walk around blasting loud music with portable speakers.

The hotel is not in good shape. The furniture was dirty and so was the pull out mattress. There were holes in walls and the shower did not properly work. The front desk attendant gave me a parking pass and said I could park on the street due to their parking lot being full, but I woke up to a parking ticket that cost more than the hotel. The next morning I was told it was my fault and there was nothing they could do. SAVE YOUR MONEY, do not stay here.

I would really like to say that the photos do *not* match the room I had booked. There cracks in the paint, grout stains, 'remodeling' that looked like it wasn't done professionally, and in the one room that looked even *remotely* remodeled there was water/condensation damage in the paint of the walls that looked like it hadn't been addressed for months. When I asked to change rooms they said they'd have availability in 2 days, they never got back to me. Mind you I stayed for 3 weeks and they did not tell me that they were turning off the water. They were working on the room above me that therein had leaked into the ceiling above me. Essentially my room looked like it was still being worked on though on the website it was said to have been "recently renovated". I would also like to mention the door to my room was missing a screw in the door's strike plate and the swing bar for my door was completely missing. All in all felt kind of unsafe. All in all not a very good experience aside from when my key got messed up they fixed it without fail every time.

Worst hotel ever! The place was filthy urine on the toilet seat when we checked in, cockroach came out of the shower drain. Room was supposed to have coffee maker, dishes, silverware etc nothing was in the kitchen. Wouldn’t have trusted to use them if they had been there. Trashcan still had trash in it. Some substance was globed on the bathroom sink and floor. Room is advertised as non smoking but the whole place reeks of cigarettes. Just gross.

Hot water in sink was off and handle did not work. Fire alarm was off and missing parts , nightstand drawer was in pieces and all pieces were shoved in the hole where the drawer should have been. Courtesy phone was broken with pieces hanging out of it. Both bedspreads were covered in stains , clean white towels looked like someone had washed their cars with it. Was not clean , did not feel remotely safe , people screaming at each other , extra parking is unlit , dirty ironing board right outside of our door. Location is great though.

they advertise as pet friendly , brought my dog and the guy at front told me. no pets they also have a sign on their desk saying no pets . you should definitely remove them. after minutes or arguing with the front desk, he did allow me to stay but told me before i checked out they were going to check the room and if dirty, they will charge extra. i checked out a day before, i was not happy. the club or restaurant next door. the music and weed smell was horrible. definitely not a place to stay

When I arrived my room was not ready they told me they were cleaning it..I came back and the room looked no different. It smelled like cigarettes and urine. Mold was in the shower. When I went to ask for a different room they told me they were sold out so I waited for a shift change and I’m glad I did they employee Shannon was a major help and completely understanding.

Overall is wasn't that bad could be a lot better the worst thing about the place is parking, they have 8 spots and if you are lucky enough to find one better leave your car the hole time in that spot or it's gonna be taken. Very close to the beach and shops that was nice, wasn't the best hotel but for the price can't beat it.

The place was filthy. Lights outside/all around building constantly flickering- not safe for someone with epilepsy. Beeping, defective smoke detector, stains on furniture, bed sheets and mattresses. Mattress looked like it was infested with bed bugs. Food smeared on microwave. Dirty half broken curtains that won’t close all the way. Toilet seat about broken off, be careful. Little to no complimentary essentials available. You could not convince me that the place had been cleaned. The pictures are absolutely nothing like the pictures. Not even worth 66$ a night. I wouldn’t stay even if it was free. Such a disappointment- ended up leaving and messed up my vacation plans where I had to search for a hotel last minute for a very expensive price, just so my son had a place that I felt safe, where he could sleep.

I got this last minute for under one-hundred-fifty bucks. The room was clean and renovated. There were 2 sets of towels and one small bar of soap, along with a small fridge. Pool is open ALL night long which is awesome, but a kid was screaming and playing in the pool until 4 am and no one did anything about it. Right on the beach by fun land. Excellent location and well worth the price I paid!!! Will definitely stay again. I wouldnt pay over 200/250 tho, IMO.

They advertised it's been remodeling but not true all the lamps and tables are not in good conditions the sofabed they have zip tides all over because the zipper not working any more we had to moped the floors and cleaned all the place our self

Yes this property is one street away from the beach and the boardwalk. But the stay there was excruciating, from the abnormally terrible bed that had giant dents on each side and a big hump in the middle, to the nasty pillow with blood drops found in an old TV closet. Also the shower was completely broken, you could not get anything but cold water as well as the handle fell off making it to where the shower head would not work. There was dirt all over the floor like it needed a good sweeping, as well as someone dripped something on top of the dishwasher door, that needed to be cleaned up before new tenants. Also there was a stain on the chairs at the dining table from somebody dripping food that never got cleaned up. On my last day there a cockroach almost fell on my head from the ceiling in the bathroom. Outside wasn't much better, yes they had a pool but it looked very dirty as well as a lot of the outside lighting blinked furiously. They had a nice looking fountain with the exception of it hasn't been maintained in years and was holding an inch of water with trash in it. One last thing on the digital sign outside it said pet friendly, but when you were inside there was a dry erase board with things written on it from the owners and one of them said no pets allowed. 377 dollars for two nights of this. With all that being said I will say that it was a mistake on my part for not saying anything until I left like an idiot. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone

Only issue is When booking it said pet friendly but when I called to confirmed they said that it was no longer the case. They were nice enough to still accept my two dogs still charged pet fee

The area outside was an abandoned fountain in front, very limited parking, but easily accessible to the beach and downtown area. The wife I think is the only cleaner. Would not stay again.

Room was clean, no bugs or anything like that. Water in bathroom had to be run separately. When you turned on the sink, the water came on, then immediately shut off. You had to ' play' with the sink to get it to work. The people who live there look to a be a bit scetchy, but thats anywhere. Our keys kept turning off, and we had to repeatedly had to go to the office. The hotel was only a block from the pier and the beach. That part was great.

The rooms have not immunities in them. There is no shampoo/conditioner, no coffee maker, and the remote on the television did not work properly. There are terrible stains on all of the furniture including the bed. The windows were not clean, the blinds in the bedroom were broken and hanging not even covering the window. The exterior of the property felt unsafe and I was asked by random people on the property what room I was staying in. When I complained to the management they tried to show my two other rooms that were equally disgusting. They refused to refund my money and let me leave.

Limited parking and it wasnt made clear not to park in the grass area, parking lot was full and my car was towed- cost $220 to get it back. Really think they should have a sign at the front desk not to park in the grass. I also had 2 service dogs and they made me pay for one...

It is located in a very convenient place. The room we stayed was not clean at all. The bed sheets where stain, there was trash under the bed, the towels looked dirty (they had hair and had brown stains) and much other things. I liked the pool.

The bathroom was nasty. AC was being held up with wooden pieces. Wires were hanging out of the walls. It was a no smoking room , but there were cigarettes everywhere. The floor was coming up. When asked for my money back, the man at the front office told me "no that I needed to leave, he wasn't getting me nothing back". We have pictures of the room too. He said the room was fine it was clean nothing was wrong with it.

First off the room was dirty so they moved us to another room which wasnt no better, so i tidy the room up myself just to feel comfortable for the weekend, second of all there was only one tv in the room which was in the living room not bedroom and the cable kept messing up, 3rd of all for a hotel to have a kitchenette, there was no pots and pans or utensils, management told me to just go get a pizza and throw it in the oven, the worse ever, i advise no one to EVER COME TO THIS HOTEL!!!

Just overall horrible cold to lukewarm showers. Half working stove. Unclean room dirty towels. We left a day early

Everything is terrible

This was the worst place I’ve ever stayed. The hotel was in a bad part of town. No hot water, even if I wanted to take a shower in that nasty tub. There was a ramp, but this hotel for a three story building there are no elevators. Is that ADA compliant? They had me on the 3rd floor and I told them I can’t do all those stairs so they put me on the 1st floor, but changed me an extra $20 in cash. They said because I got my reservation through hotels.com they couldn’t add it to my reservation, your company may want to check on this.

The rooms were dirty with trash left over from the last family staying there. The towels were dirty with hair and stains on them. The hot water didn’t work all day , the water would only be hot around 4am - 6am. The sheets had stains on them and the mattress were old and possibly had bed bugs , my baby woke up with bite marks on his arms and back. There was always someone yelling or playing loud music. The owner would literally stand outside his office whenever we would come outside to smoke and he would just watch us. I also paid to have a kitchenette and the owner told me there weren’t any rooms available that I paid for and put us in a standard double bed room. All in all , I would not recommend

An affordable place close to the beach. You get what you pay for but beware of additional charges after booking such as resort fees. These fees shouldn't be applied when pool and resort based amenities are closed.

If you enjoy moldy and dirty towels, broken faucets and fixtures, no hot water, and paper thin walls then this is the place for you. Worse than advertised. Would NEVER recommend this to anyone!

Should shut the hotel down, the door was ate up and the workers was not trying to refund me or switch my room

Had a nice little staycation here. It's right in the middle of everything at the oceanfront. The staff were friendly and accommodating, modest clean rooms. Other guests were quiet and respectful. I'd definitely stay again

This place is horrible I booked for 7 nights then I didn’t even make it through one night. Sheets and towels were dirty the ceiling was chipping off onto the beds and worse of all. I got chewed up by bed bugs. This place needs to be shut down and never to be opened again as a matter of fact burn it down that way the bed bugs die too.

No hot water for my whole stay. Wi-Fi cut on and off. Toilet would not stop running

literally doesnt look like any of the pictures. this place i thought was safe and clean from booking online. IT DOESNT LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THE PICTURES. the door lock was broken, holes in the walls, in need of many repairs, the bed was dirty and the towels were not at all clean. never staying here again.

It is not what is on display it is very dirty and stink we leave the minute we get there, the room smell stink with smoke bathroom dirty the floors dirty every thing was dirty and stink this place is for junkies, take this place off the site
