We liked the quaint atmosphere of the hotel. The hotel restaurant was excellent. The fire alarm went off at 530 in the morning. It would have been nice if the staff had offered us something for having to evacuate early in the morning.

The property was ok but it needs maintenance. You can see stains in the ceiling and it seems to have a humidity problem. It smelled like mold. Hotel has breakfast included and we had planned to have breakfast at the hotel before we left for the day but the personnel that worked at the restaurant did not show up in the morning so we had to skip breakfast altogether. Never had experienced such lack of customer service. Also, beds were small they say it’s queen but it felt more like a full size. The hotel needs maintenance we observed stains in the ceiling.

Wife could not sleep that night because of the chemical oder in the room. Sit down breakfast was too long of a wait and not compatible with our schedule. Way over the top amenity. Pillows collapsed providing little support for the neck.

Weirdest and most inconvenient issue was no microwave in the room. I’d never stayed in a hotel where that’s not a minimum expectation. Instead there’s ONE shared microwave downstairs in the common area. The restaurant was only so-so.

Loved it. Only problem was accessing Wi-Fi. Could not get it.

Rooms were great, enjoyed the pool and availability of coffee in the morning lovely Elevator was a bit iffy by pool.

This is a historic hotel and landmark of Urbana, and the cheap furniture, carpet, and wallpaper take away from its core beauty and actually look out of place. The reception area does make a lovely statement (as most hotels do), but the hotel’s beauty has been cheapened and destroyed. Our room was VERY basic, and again, the decor doesn’t flow, and seems mismatched. For a recently redone hotel, our shower was clearly repaired and looked sloppy in the 8” spot where they repaired it (in other words, not new). Despite being assured this was a non-smoking hotel, our room smelled of old cigarette smoke (and recent carpet powder that gave me a headache). Positives: The beds were extremely comfortable, and the room seemed clean. The staff were great. I am just very disappointed that our beautiful hotel has been minimized and made to conform to ‘The Hilton Shoe’. I never write reviews, but I was so taken aback that I felt I needed to. Oh! If you sit at the bar, be careful with the seats - they are super flimsy and cheap.

Was in town to attend my freshman son's final band concert of the year. Close enough to campus to make travel easy. The best part of the entire stay...how quiet it was. We heard no other room doors slamming shut, no staircase doors slamming shut, no one screaming in the halls at 2am. Now, we did stay on a Sunday night so maybe the hotel wasn't overly busy, but we enjoyed our stay. There was a smell on our floor that was chemical in nature. Nothing horrible, but noticable.

I really wanted to love this hotel and I did LIKE it. For an older building, they did a great renovation overall but you could also tell there were some cheap upgrades. The toilet paper holder and drawer pull both were broken, the shower was warm but not hot and no iron in the room but it was still lovely. Just not what I would consider to be high end. However, the price was fair. I would stay there again.

We ordered room service, and we never got it. We tried to put the heat on, it was a bit cold, and there was a nasty/burn like smell so we needed to shut it off.

Staff was great, but the walls are paper thin here. I was staying for business and was keep up all night by other guests

Hotel gorgeous, room awesome, rates incredibly affordable. Only downside was shower went ICE COLD on me mid shower and didn’t warm back up. Was super uncomfortable. Otherwise, great stay.

Room was clean. Decor was amazing. The heating system does make a loud noise quite often and the walls are very thin, but the bed was comfortable enough I still slept soundly. The location was excellent - lots of restaurants and shopping nearby, as well as the UIUC campus. Staff was very friendly.

Room was decorated nicely and clean. Service was outstanding. The hotel restaurant food was so so. Breakfast sausage was overcooked. Burger was undercooked. Food in general was very average.

I did not eat. My brother had to be at the hospital for surgery at 5 in am. Great hotel. Only issue was they had an expresso machine in the room and i am coffee but i brought my own so it was good

My daughter and I enjoyed having a very modern beautiful room that was super clean. We particularly loved the bathroom with its beautiful shower space and large mirror in the bathroom and a full length mirror on the outside of the bathroom door. It made it quite easy to get ready at the same time. It was a lovely quiet stay in wonderful historic hotel close to so many conveniences, especially U of I which we were visiting.

All the woodwork and features were very nicely restored. The breakfast was terrific in a lovely dining room and wonderful waitstaff! So happy we picked this as our stay in Champain-urbana

Hotel had no record of my reservation. I gave them the Expedia confirmation number but it didn’t match anything in their system. Then I found the hotel confirmation number in an Expedia email. That confirmation matched another guest with same first name different last name who had already checked in. In the end they had to create a new reservation for me and got me a room. Hotel employee Conner was excellent!!! The booking confusion was not!!

Hotel was very nice, cool building that was updated well. Staff was professional. For the price, some type of continental breakfast should have been included. That's pretty much the standard now, even in lower dollar hotels. The coffee in the lobby was good and greatly appreciated, but some type of food should be included. The attached restaurant may be great, if one has the time and desire to spend an additional $30 or $40 per night. I didn't.

The parking was easy, we were going to a wedding & able to check in early. The room was clean, bed reasonably comfortable. There were only 3 pillows on a queen bed. The major complaint is a light bar above the open concept closet that was motion activated & across from the bed. If we moved or got up to use the restroom, it came on like a spotlight throughout the night. There was no on/off switch, it just automatically went off after a certain amount of time. It is very poor placement and disruptive to sleep. I have no idea why a light even needs to be right there, but if there is one, it should have a switch.

My only complaint is the restaurant was unable to open for breakfast , which was quite unfortunate.

I will never stay at this property again.

The room was very clean when we arrived and it was modern while also cozy. The lobby, bar, and restaurant were also very clean and very unique. A lot of hotels are very similar in styling and layout, but this hotel was very unique and felt very luxurious. Parking was right on site and there were plenty of spaces available. We ate at the restaurant on site and enjoyed our delicious meals and the design of the space.

A delightful stay! The property is immaculate and the renovations on this historical hotel are great. The service was wonderful, friendly, and attentive. The room and bed were very comfortable. I travel often for work and this hotel is undoubtedly one of the nicest I've stayed in this year.

There was no shower caps for ladies. There was no information in room about services offered in the room.The carpet in this place was totally awful. I could not get a copy of the bill for my review of the charges. I will never use this place again!

Internet went down as we arrived so the staff couldn’t find rooms for anyone arriving after that. All arriving guests were turned away after a long wait and the promise of rooms. There seemed to be no way to find rooms without the internet—no back up plan and no competent IT help. The hotel did not offer to get anyone a room at another hotel like usual hotel policy. (We were on our own to find another hotel room at that late hour after an exhausting several days of travel.) Since we had already paid for the room through Expedia, the front desk told us to tell Expedia to call with them with our confirmation number so we could get refunded. However, after multiple attempts to reach the hotel for the next 24 hours, Expedia gave up. The issue was resolved after I finally reached Hilton customer service. After more calls to the front desk and Expedia, I finally got a refund but it was an incredible hassle. This was one of our worst hotel experiences ever!

I’ve never stayed in a hotel quite like this one. Luxury, attention to detail, fantastic staff and wonderful rooms. There was an issue thru the booking site that messed up our room but the hotel staff fixed it immediately. 10/10 would stay again! Loved it. The area had a lot to offer as well. Easy to navigate.

Comfortable and pretty !

Super comfortable bed , great rain shower and clean bath products. Nice touch on the Nespresso machine with Lavaza coffee. Great area , live music around the corner and great dining options. Safe to walk around. Wonderful stay. Will come back again.

It was just okay.

The hotel staff were superb! However, the Writers Room (restaurant) staff were horrible. The decor and ambiance of the restaurant were excellent, but they were having a bad night (long waits for service, food was late, cold, sent back, and still not right). Also, Lloyd’s (bar) were training new bartenders every night we were there, and the drinks were occasionally good but mostly horrible. We would definitely go back because we hope their training (bar and restaurant) get better. There are good bars and restaurants in this beautiful, walkable neighborhood. Again, the hotel front desk folks were superb!

Front desk team and check in was a 10/10. The room and pool areas were very nice and clean. Where our stay took a turn for the worst was the restaurant. Went to both dinner and breakfast services and I can at least say there were consistent. Consistently bad, unfortunately. People walked out of both services due to unacceptably long waits. The dining room only had 6-7 tables, why was it taking over an hour for appetizers and the basics to come out? Our server, Rocky, was great and the only decent part of our dinner service. Very apologetic and trying to make the best of a terrible situation. As for breakfast, the host who was grabbing drinks and cleaning tables was amazing, but one server who clearly did not want to be there taking care of the entire dining room was crazy. Avoid the restaurant at all cost if you go, there are plenty of local spots very close by that won’t make you wait an hour for pancakes.

Called down and asked for blankets and pillows for the pull-out couch Aunt, they said they would be up stairs to deliver those and they never came. I let them have Grace and waited for about an hour to 2 hours before I eventually fell asleep without any linens or a pillow and the pool was extremely cold. The service was rude. The elevator was iffy and I would expect a little bit more from that hotel but I just don't have to stay there again

Beautiful place to stay. Check in was just awful. I had an early check in promised at 1:30 PM, didn’t get in until very very late. 😔

The hotel was beautiful. Very clean as well. Nice beds and nice linens. The shower had good water pressure and hot water. We did not eat at the restaurant but it looked beautiful. We did not use the pool either but we checked it out and it looked nice. Check in and out was fast and easy. Hotel smelled nice. Wasn’t very noisy. Decent area to walk but I don’t recommend the restaurant we walked to called the courier cafe, it was really not great food.

This newly renovated hotel was a perfect mix of modern and historical. We loved it!

The room is not soundproof at all, and you can clearly hear the music playing in the next room. There was a car honking in the parking lot at night, and someone was knocking on the door frantically in the middle of the night
