The site was clean and comfortable. It offered sleeping privacy and an enjoyable community area to dine and converse with others. The kitchen area was well stocked. The refreshing welcome beverage was much appreciated, too. Lovely host as well, very kind & helpful.

This dorm has a very nice cafe downstairs and its location is great. The hosts were very friendly and the facilities are good. Also very practical that it can be booked online.

What more do you want when you travel? A welcoming place to stay and a great bar and restaurant as well. Not only that, a kind and caring staff that had a bike mechanic come and fix my friends bike at 7:30 at night so that we could continue on our bike trip. So kind!

Uchikobare was more than accomodation. As soon as you entered you felt you were part of a community. Our host Yama created a welcoming and relaxed environment. Although this accomodation is suited to a younger backpacker traveller as a couple in our late 60's with suitcases we didn't feel out of place. The tour of a 90yr old cinema which was bound for demolition before Yama started renting it and trying to revive it was inspiring and a trip down memory lane. Would highly recommend a stay here if ever visiting the historical town of Uchiko

Great spot with super hosts. Due to availability we stayed in dorm beds but they were quite comfortable and surprisingly quiet. Nice old building with lots of charm. Located right in the old center of the city close to everything. Kitchen, shower and toilet facilities are all very satisfactory. Living area is comfortable and meals available were really good. The host was really great - giving us info on a local festival that was a trip highlight, and taking us on a tour of a local movie theatre that is no longer in use but has incredible history. Nothing. Stayed an extra night and would go back in a heartbeat.

I had a great stay at Hostel & Tatami Bar Uchikobare. It's a beautifully remodeled old house in a historic district projecting great charm and energy. The owner and his wife provided me with a warm welcome making me feel at home. The owner shared excellent dinner recommendations and helped me book a train ticket. I also connected with other travelers. A true highlight, highly recommended.

Lovely hostel on a lovely old street. The owners were friendly and gave us an interesting tour of the local area. As the name says, there's a mar with nice craft beers and liquors. My dorm capsule was really spacious, I could stand up inside!

Absolutely beautiful Guesthouse. Perfectly located. The staff is really nice and the homemade dinner was amazing ! There is also a nice little coffee/bar adjacent to the living room. Everything was great !

I liked the bar area and the beds were quite comfortable for such a thin matrass. Staff was very friendly and it is based in the old quarter which is very convenient Check in is quite late which was a hazzle because I needed to rest a bit but that was known in advance. What I found strange was that there was soup missing in many places were you would expect it. That gave it all a bit of a gross touch since people did not wash their hands with soup then. What I did not like was that it was not as advertised. I booked a female small dorm on purpose because I am sensitive to snoring and in a female only small dorm you are usually safe. But there are thin paper sliding doors between the rooms which do not even reach the ceiling so you can hear absolutely everything including people in the bar area and snoring people. The snoring came from old men in the men section and I could not sleep for 2 nights. When I was in Matsuyama in a business hotel I just fall asleep after check in from exhaustion. So this is why I would not sleep again here. Ear plugs couldn't cancel out the noise... It is the same by the way for single rooms. It is a single section but you can still hear everything.
