Reviews
The hotel is undergoing renovations, which has caused inconvenience for some guests, including noise and construction in the mornings. However, the staff is generally friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is good with a variety of options. The location is also convenient for many guests.

Have stayed here twice for medical courses, the location is perfect, secure parking, gym was good, dinner was good, comfy and quiet room. Highly recommend.

Exceptional
- 5/5
Great location considering the lower than average price for the room. A view of Mt. Rainier and a perfect clean quiet room. A block up the hill from a cool street with stores and restaurants.
- 3/5
Hot take water was only luke warm, same last trip as well. We had several rooms on several floors same issue
- 5/5
good

Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly. Convenient restaurant and bar in the hotel.

The beds were comfy, great pillows. Staff were helpful and friendly. Parking was easy and plenty of it. Will definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
The staff was exceptionally accommodating. The room was very clean and comfortable. We were within walking distance of all sorts of food options. There was also an onsite restaurant. One small negative was that Expedias site said there was free secure onsite parking, the secure parking cost $20 a night. Otherwise it was wonderful.
- 5/5
The front desk staff were very kind and made my stay even better!
- 5/5
Awesome

Yet another nice stay at the Hilton Garden Inn, for our kid's graduation from UPS. Central location, security parking, appealing view over the harbor. One of the elevators was broken, so the remaining elevator was pretty crowded.Otherwise a lovely stay.

Horrible. I didn’t like the service and especially the management! The place did not have a pool. I arrived way before check in and found they didn’t have a pool. Which trip advisor showed, and almost all search engines showed they had a pool. Which they don’t. I cancelled my reservation online and in person. They still charged my credit card. I did not stay at this hotel and they still charged me card and refuse to refund me. Now I have to waste more time fighting this. I’m an homers member too. So crazy! Management. And fraudulent chargers on my credit card

Room was ok but we had an awkward person who was not staying at the hotel try and join us at the bar. Completely awkward and disappointing.
- 5/5
It was great
- 5/5
Amazing help! Very cheerful and a light when you checked in and checked out!
- 5/5
The employees were super nice. The restaurant was good too.
- 4/5
I liked that there was a couch in the room that could be used for relaxation. I liked how the tables and counters were new, modern, and clean. The layout of the room was also very convenient, with the colors of the furniture and bedding fitting very well together. The bathroom had some issues; the flush handle on the toliet was very hard for me to use because I found it difficult to apply the right amount of pressure. The drain cover for the shower was not installed properly I think, because I managed to move it with my feet while showering.

Clean but a bit dated.

The room, linens were clean. The staff tried to be helpful. Other guests being extremely loud and keeping us awake.

- 5/5
The room was clean and comfortable. The staff we encountered were great. We would definitely stay here again.
- 3/5
Parking was pay parking. Room was clean. Traffic noisy, main road one street down. Lots of sirens.
- 5/5
Keurig did not work in my room. Basic hotel stay, nothing special. Room was clean.

The parking lot has very narrow spaces with lots of cement poles.

Great location! Clean and enjoyable! N/a
- 4/5
It doesn’t hurt to ask, but depending on room availability like when I checked in. They let me check in early before 3 pm. And honestly, my flight to get to this hotel and this destination of mine left at 6 am. So I was honestly appreciating the early check in. Allowed me to nap. Might’ve been low quality but better than nothing!
- 5/5
After the recent remodel, this is a great, affordable option. The on site restaurant and bar is fantastic, and the rooms are fresh and comfortable. They did a great job updated this property and is now my go to hotel with an awesome location as well being close to bars and restaurants.
- 5/5
The staff was very nice and definitely a clean room
- 5/5
Staff was kind and welcoming, the 24 hour shop was clutch especially for the rave crowd
- 5/5
The property was perfect for a one night stay.
- 5/5
Everythung was fine
- 5/5
It did accept pets , air conditioning worked
- 5/5
The value of the Hilton Garden Inn Tacoma Downtown was phenomenal. The two queen room was spacious, there were multiple places to sit aside from the beds, and the room in general (bathroom as well) did not feel cramped. There were plenty of area attractions nearby within walking distance, and the self parking fee was very reasonable.
- 5/5
Great place. Right next to UW Tacoma. Great staff. Will be back.
- 4/5
We love staying at this hotel! My only complaint is that shower was not hot enough. It was a little bit warmer than luke warm
- 5/5
Super convenient location, the room was neat and tidy, and the staff was very accommodating.
- 2/5
Quite expensive for no breakfast and parking included. Room was clean but beds were very firm and uncomfortable. Not a good deal at all. Front desk check in person was not very helpful. Diane really explain expectations.
- 2/5
When we looked for hotels we wanted one with a swimming pool. From pictures it appears there’s a large indoor pool and hot tub. We checked in and then went to dinner. When we came back to go swimming we had to ask the front desk where it was. They don’t have a pool! False advertising!! The pillows were really really soft and bed was a little lumpy.
- 5/5
Nice place beautiful people
- 4/5
The last thing that was a little surprising, again for a high-end hotel is that they don’t offer a continental breakfast.
- 5/5
Clean room staff was great
- 5/5
Quite and clean. Great customer service at the front desk.
- 2/5
The staff was great, and would get a 5. The area is terrible. The elevators weren't working, except for one, that was an issue. Someone had popped in garage, I could not get out of garage due to tight quarters, and someone was killed right outside of the hotel on one of the nights I was there. Not sure if anything could have been done, but I travel as a single female, it didn't feel safe.
- 2/5
The elevator’s been broken since October, which was the last time I was there. I’m going back in February and I will not be staying there if the elevator is still not working unacceptable.
- 5/5
Room was nice, and clean
- 5/5
Hilton was great. Wonderful. Highly recommend them
- 4/5
Clean comfortable room. Perfect for 1 night stay over New Years.
- 4/5
Stated during Christmas holidays but servuce left something to be desired. NO body gel or shampoo for 4 days. Limited coffee in room. Probably won’t stay again although room was clean and staff friendly. For a Hilton…. Not impressed with overall care.
- 5/5
The room was clean, very comfortable. Easy parking, easy check in and out.
- 4/5
DOES NOT HAVE A POOL AND PHOTOS ARE NOT ACCURATE. It’s the old holiday in express.
- 1/5
Was the worst experience I’ve had checking in to a hotel ever. Took 45 mins to check into a room I booked 2 months prior and even talked to the gm Jose a week before staying. When I arrived they could not find my reservation and told me it was not their fault. I went back and forth for 30 mins with the front desk until a manager came out and typed in the computer for 15 mins until she finally said oh yea I found it looks like it was canceled by accident and not rebooked. So they made a mistake and tried blaming me for 45 mins. I missed my reservation to dinner bc of this and was charged a reservation fee. The hotel did nothing to make it right. Was embarrassing sitting in the lobby with all of our luggage and bring told we don’t have a room in front of everyone when in fact we did.
- 4/5
Safe parking and great staff! Very comfortable bed and room. Tough neighborhood but well maintained and secure!
- 5/5
BEST TIME EVER
- 5/5
The room was kept very clean
- 4/5
Fash check in, clean comfortable room.
- 5/5
Nice place with friendly staff. Walking distance to Tacoma Dome but surprisingly limited places to eat etc
- 5/5
Everything was wonderful. Clean, friendly, bed was comfortable. Would stay there again!
- 5/5
Very courteous staff and management
- 5/5
Close to local downtown points of interest. Good parking.
- 5/5
We found the hotel clean and the staff friendly and accommodating.
- 4/5
They had my traveling companions name on both reservations. I hope I get credit since I made and paid for both.
- 5/5
Nice staff
- 5/5
Clean and friendly staff!
- 3/5
Also, I think this might be more on Expedia than the hotel, but it was not made clear at all that breakfast wasn’t included. It turned out to be full price and quite expensive. Thankfully, there are plenty of good food options within about a 7-minute walk. When I stayed here last year, breakfast was free and continental, so I had planned on that again. Very disappointed that they’ve decided to nickel-and-dime guests wherever they can just because they can. Don't think we will be staying here next year, will probably look into other options
- 4/5
TV stopped working, but engineer did his best. Did without 1st night, but it was fixed by the time I got back on the second day.
- 5/5
Great room.
- 5/5
Staff was very helpful. Great hotel.
- 5/5
Clean, great service, comfy and quiet. The area as most places around here can be sketchy but appreciated the locked garage. Overall great place!
- 5/5
I really enjoyed the suite room, it was spacious and was able to walk around easily.
- 5/5
The room was super clean, and everything was modern and up to date. The only thing that wasn't great was that we kept hearing sirens all night long. Other than that it was wonderful.
- 5/5
Lots of coffee shops nearby
- 5/5
Great room. Newly renovated
- 5/5
Wish there was more around the area.
- 5/5
Would stay here again.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly, rooms clean & quiet. Are is walkable, not a lot of restaurants nearby but very close to the UofW campus
- 5/5
We had a friendly greeting and a great work out room.
- 5/5
excellent
- 5/5
Good
- 1/5
Would not accept any of my cards. Wouldn't even allow me to run them for payment. Ended up calling and booking a completely different hotel, and paying over the phone with one of the cards Hilton wouldnt accept. This all happened at 1am after flying for 6 hours.
- 5/5
Easy to navagate facility and a quick check-in, beautiful place to stay
- 1/5
Parking? $20 Breakfast? Hotels.com said it has a complementary breakfast, they do not. Breakfast was a minimum of $10 for a minuscule cup of Greek yogurt with berries, honey, and granola. There were ZERO celiac friendly options outside of the yogurt minus the granola. While a cereal laden complimentary breakfast might seem cheap, at least there’s normally celiac friendly options. The WATER BOTTLES in the suite cost extra. I will never say at another Hilton.
- 5/5
Great room, restaurant was awesome, amazing staff and secure parking
- 5/5
Room was very clean, staff very helpful
- 4/5
Great as always. Elevator for some reason between 3-5 was very slow. Like 4-5 minutes each day we were there
- 2/5
Room wasn'tCleaned
- 3/5
Rooms were clean and good location. However, you leave feeling nickel and dimed. Only breakfast option is mediocre food with a $20+ price tag. Per day parking fee, which I’m generally not opposed to but it just felt like nothing was included in your stay. You couldn’t even get decent wifi without paying for “premium” internet. Standard WiFi was awful. I’ve stayed here when it was a holiday inn without issues, but I probably wouldn’t stay here again. Not worth the price.
- 5/5
great check-in, easy parking, super clean
- 5/5
I like that this hotel is 20 minutes away from the Tacoma Dome. Room was clean. Staff was very friendly.
- 5/5
Nice place to stay. Very clean and comfortable room. Staff is very friendly. Plenty of good eating and drinking spots within walking distance
- 5/5
Great location in downtown Tacoma. Close to UW Tacoma, Tacoma Art Museum and the convention center. The staff were nice and helpful. I would stay again.
- 5/5
Stayed here multiple times and it’s a perfect place to stay. Rooms are spacious, staff are welcoming.
- 3/5
Clean room, good facilities. I hated that I had to pay an extra $20 for parking for one night and the breakfast was also extra cost. I’d rather they increase prices and include everything.
- 5/5
We ever go back to Tacoma we would love to come and stay here again.
- 3/5
Dining room needs more help. Wait staff were overwhelmed and needed support. Very very slow breakfast service. If we stay again, we will go to the cafe in the neighborhood.
- 4/5
Very clean, close to our area of interest. Secure parking with a fee but was nice not having to street park. One elevator was down so took time to get up/down floors at times. Rooms very cozy. Overall a great stay.
- 5/5
Real good value with big room.
- 5/5
You need a pool or hot tub
- 3/5
No complaints. Stay met our needs but did not exceed expectations.
- 5/5
Check in was quick and easy and the parking was easy and convenient
- 5/5
Stuff
- 3/5
Room was clean. Very basic. Nothing special.
- 1/5
I canceled this
- 5/5
Nice
- 5/5
It was clean and quiet.
- 4/5
Staff was curtious and efficient. Premisis was clean and reasonably priced.
- 5/5
Fantastic food at the restaurant and great staff.
- 3/5
1st impressions are lasting and this was a terrible 1st impression.
- 4/5
If you are going to charge for bottled water in the rooms, have an option for filling personal water bottles in a common area. The breakfast was not great, even if it had been included. And certainly not for the price .
- 4/5
This year we ate off-site. At a restaurant.
- 5/5
Wonderful stay! Very clean and close to some great restaurants
- 5/5
Staff were great.
- 4/5
Superb hotel. Would have five stars ig room cleaning had occurred before 6 PM og the second day.
- 5/5
Nice
- 5/5
Great service, easy check in and out. Friendly staff. Clean and spacious room with microwave, fridge and coffee maker.
- 5/5
Since rebranding to Hilton from Holiday Inn you would have never known unless you’re local. The new hotel name brings in renovation and upgrades the whole hotel but took out the pool to replace it with a bar/restaurant. Rooms were clean and pillows were comfortable. The best part is the parking garage so you don’t have to worry about finding parking on the street.($20 fee)
- 4/5
Nice place to stay.
- 5/5
Clean and updated rooms. Great location near Tacoma Dome, transit and breweries. Staff are awesome and great amenities (secure parking, nice gym and snack for sale in lobby).
- 4/5
Nice property and room. Only issue was the AC was a little loud.
- 5/5
EXCELLENT IN EVERY ASPECT!
- 5/5
Clean and safe
- 3/5
Room was not made up by 2:30 when we returned for the day. Wake up call not received at time requested.i. My opinion, not worth the cost.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel and convenient location. Staff went above and beyond to accommodate.
- 5/5
Nice clean spacious room. Walkable to downtown Tacome
- 3/5
When we arrived, there was only one person working. This was at 3pm, which is check-in time. The person working was on the phone, and did not acknowledge us for 10 mins while we stood there right in front of them. Everything else was fine after that, but this is a good indication of poor hotel management, so be cautious.
- 1/5
Terrible value for the money. Avoid this area at all costs
- 3/5
I would have stayed here again. But the experience was influenced by a fire alarm at 7:30 in the morning and continual lights and alarms though out the morning robbing us of sleep and keeping us on high alert. But the location was very convenient for our walk to the Tacoma Dome for a show and the staff was friendly and hotel parking was very affordable.
- 5/5
Clean, bright and comfortable with an extremely kind staff. We'll be back!
- 4/5
Great, bright, clean lobby and rooms.
- 3/5
The overall state of the property was nice. The parking fee is obnoxious, but there was enough parking on the street. Beware that that can fill up during the work week though. The surrounding area is okay. It's not unsafe, but it is surrounded by homeless camps. So, i would dock that one star. My biggest complaint is the amenities. I washed my clothes the last day I was there, but the dryer card reader stopped working and I was not able to pay for the dryer. The staff at the front desk basically brushed it off and said there was nothing he could do. He basically made no effort to try and rectify the situation. So, I was stuck carrying my wet clothes upstairs. If he had been more alert to the situation or offered some sort of remedy, I would not have been so upset about the situation. Overall, I personally will not be staying here again. It's not a bad hotel. It's just not worth the money to me.
- 5/5
One of only 2 places I’ll stay in Tacoma. Love the staff and the convenience
- 5/5
It was great
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean rooms and bathroom. Quiet and pleasant.
- 5/5
We stayed 4th of July so it was noisy with fire works but not bad. Comfortable bed and great place for the dogs.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel. The staff were really nice as well
- 1/5
Very very decrepid property. Rude staff. There was loud music playing in multiple rooms around us. Management told us to be please go back to our rooms and that there was nothing they could really do.
- 5/5
Rooms were very well furnished (usable surfaces, storage, bathroom towel hangars) compared with other properties we encountered during 2 week vacation around Olympic NP. Cutting corners seems to be the latest unwelcome trend in the hospitality industry.
- 5/5
:p
- 5/5
Although street closures in the neighborhood made getting there a bit problematic, the hotel was very clean and comfortable. The inhouse restaurant has a somewhat limited menu, but is convenient.
- 5/5
Great location
- 1/5
We never got a room. Their computers were down, so after arriving at 5 pm we sat in their lobby and waited until 10:30 pm before walking across the street and getting a room and another hotel. They offered us a $25 food voucher only after I asked. This is the same hotel that we had to get a new room after arriving and opening our room to a bed that had obviously been “used” vigorously prior to our arrival. Never again.
- 5/5
Everything was beautiful and top notch. Area was more sketchy than I realized but the actual hotel was great.
- 5/5
Clean and neat
- 5/5
Very much clean
- 5/5
Very good experience.
- 4/5
A bit expensive for area, but comfortable.
- 5/5
Clean and had all the necessary amenities, a restaurant and gym. Everyone was friendly. Convenient location too.
- 4/5
Second time staying there. Rooms and cleanliness are good. Staff and service are lackluster. Restaurant breakfast is good but overpriced. Good location.
- 5/5
Friendly & courteous staff. Bed was really comfortable. Clean rooms and lobby area. Only stayed 1 night but all the amenities we needed in the bathroom were great. Quiet which made sleeping enjoyable. Ovwrall a perfect stay.
- 1/5
The front desk said I booked through Expedia so I can’t have early check in. But others can check in at the same time. The staff said I requested I a disable room. But I didn’t request for that.
- 5/5
Great stay. Convenient to work and downtown.
- 5/5
Only points of note, after coming off the elevator and heading to the room there was a very noticeable smell of marijuana — a bit concerning on a 100% non smoking floor — but it was not noticeable in our room. The smoke detector in our room (426) was covered and taped, perhaps a remnant from a recent ceiling paint job? Would be best if it was removed so as not to interfere with the intended purpose of the unit.
- 5/5
Cleanliness.
- 5/5
Very clean and comfortable. We would stay again here.
- 4/5
Great front desk employee and a comfortable room
- 3/5
We loved the hotel room it’s self , but what we did not like was there breakfast wasn’t included and we had to pay an extra $15 to park in the hotel parking which was not told when we made our reservation.
- 4/5
The smoke detector went off when we showered with the bathroom door open. A long time waiting for an agent at the front desk to check out. Everything else was great! Thank you. We would stay again.
- 5/5
Came up to Tacoma for eye surgery, this was a great place for us as it was super close to the hospital and Doctors office. It was a great room, the shower was fantastic! Bed was super comfortable. Everything was clean. Was a bit disappointed with the food downstairs and the construction going on across the street, but otherwise great stay.
- 5/5
The hotel itself is excellent for me. Rooms were clean. Even used the gym and it was good enough. We had a fridge and a microwave. The hallways and lobby were clean. There is a fee for parking which was stated in the description. Only downpart was the homeless people around the area. Close to the downtown area but can be sketchy at night. I would recommend this hotel for travelers. Good service and location is very convenient.
- 5/5
It was located next to the University of Washington’s Tacoma campus. We walked through the campus on our way to the Japanese Steak House the first night we stayed there.
- 5/5
Friendly staff! The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Great location which felt safe and parking was very easy. Would stay again!
- 3/5
The mattress was hard as a sidewalk. We both didn't get much sleep. If you like a slab of cement for your mattress, this is the place for you. Every thing else was great. Very clean rooms. Easy check in and check out. Great gated parking
- 4/5
Very comfy beds, quiet, clean, and friendly staff
- 3/5
The room has thin walls meaning you will hear everything from talk to boot stomps. The rooms were recently renovated so they are very nice and clean, but the building is old just be aware of that.
- 3/5
Overpriced for what you get. Nothing is included in the room rate—breakfast and parking ($15/day) cost extra. The parking garage has leaky, duct-taped pipes, and noise is a major issue, especially from nearby train tracks and loud plumbing. The front desk staff was unfriendly, and there's a $50 incidental fee charged upfront, which takes 3–4 business days to be refunded. Overall, a disappointing and noisy stay.
- 5/5
Very comfortable. Check in was easy. All staff were professional, friendly, and helpful. We would stay there again.
- 3/5
Staff was friendly and room was basic but clean. Nice gated parking garage but cost $15 for parking, which only has a 6’8 clearance so not suitable for all trucks. Highly recommend the garage as there are a lot of homeless people in the area. Restaurant is overpriced for quality of food, would definitely dine elsewhere. Snacks available for purchase, but a soda costs $5.
- 5/5
Love staying here. The only place downtown I’ve never been broken into.
- 5/5
The restaurant was nice. The dish that we had was okay but not the best we have had. The waitress was superswee
- 4/5
Construction going on the street below (Apr 2025). Large, clean room - everything worked. Service is great. All staff very friendly and helpful. Parking and restaurant way overpriced.
- 4/5
Building is very new. Rooms, halls, lobby all look and feel brand new and very clean. Staff were awesome, appreciated the gated secure parking as well for only $15 per night. Be aware the ENTIRE surrounding area is under heavy construction - streets are closed off and being repaved, construction fencing, rubble etc. However there are 3-4 cool pubs and cideries within walking distance so we took advantage of that.
- 3/5
In the heart of downtown. Easy walk to the glass museum, waterfront stroll, antique row.
- 4/5
Hotel was great. Room was clean, comfortable and big. A lot of construction happening in the area at the time. Not a great neighborhood for walking around but we had a nice view of Rainer.
- 5/5
Walkable to UW Tacoma
- 1/5
I was told my $10 daily food and beverage was still valid even though I booked through Expedia by TWO different folks. To my surprise, I got billed for the food hours after checking out and told I couldn’t be refunded and there was nothing they could do. I would not recommend this location to anyone as they lie blatantly to your face and don’t own up to it.
- 5/5
Attentive and nice staff. Very clean. Surrounding area is under construction April 2025
- 5/5
My husband and I had a great stay for an event at Tacoma Dome. It was perfect for the close proximity to the event and a spacious room nice amenities. Will definitely book here again when in town
- 4/5
This was a great property.
- 5/5
We really enjoyed our stay.
- 5/5
This was such a great hotel with superior service to the other nearby hotels in the area. We were there for a gymnastics competition and stayed over to take the kids to the zoo. We had excellent service, the rooms are quiet and clean.
- 3/5
2 cars (on the street parking) were broken into and windows busted when we walked out to our car in the morning. I suggest the hotel comping the parking garage fee for guest if area is a liability.
- 5/5
The hotel itself was very nice. The staff and the facility were awesome. Unfortunately, the surrounding area is run down. Make sure to pay for parking, cars parked on the street were broken into.
- 5/5
Great hotel!! Beds were very comfortable! Would definitely go back and stay there again!
- 5/5
The location work great for what we were there for. Within walking distance to the convention center. The staff was really friendly, rooms were clean and spacious.
- 5/5
I like how clean and cozy the room was. This is the only hotel I stay at when traveling to Tacoma.
- 5/5
I love the renovations and the addition of a restaurant and bar!
- 4/5
Would have been good if a small brush and toothpaste is provided in the bathroom .
- 4/5
It was a fine place.
- 5/5
It's location close to downtown Tacoma, restaurants and the art museum, everything was walkable.
- 4/5
Good Stay
- 5/5
It was such and easy and safe walk to the convention center. 7 Seas is literally right next to the hotel--great food and drinks. The staff was amazing and the room was clean and comfy. Would definitely stay there again!
- 3/5
Restaurant was under staffed , food and cocktails were mediocre.
- 5/5
Best place in Tacoma
- 5/5
Wonderful! Bar/restaurant also great! Loved the location!
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay here! Great area for walking to shops, eats, etc
- 5/5
Convenient location. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Great food and beverage availability at the hotel.
- 5/5
Gym was amazing
- 5/5
All good

Nice hotel with easy access to restaurants. Very close to the convention center. Room was clean, beds comfy. They charge for water bottles. Only complaint was the bathroom floors had dust and some hair.
