Holiday Inn Resort Oceanfront at Surfside Beach by IHG

Everything about our anniversary weekend was amazing. The hotel, the staff, the bar & restaurant, all exceptional. The reason for 3 stars is I was sold a “partial ocean view room” and I got a frosted glass slider, bolted shut, overlooking the buildings HVAC systems. I could have booked 15,000 rooms at a beachfront on the grandstand but opted for quieter and off the strip in MB. Even the front desk staff said my reservation was extremely misleading. They didn’t have another room to offer due to Musicfest.

Wednesday the 3rd we were seated,we were not asked if we wanted anything to drink. We had to go up and ask them for it On Thursday the 4th the hot tub was full of little kids using it as a swimming pool, coming in and out from the beach with sand all over their feet and jumping in. It was right on the beach and an excellent location. No free breakfast like most holiday inn’s

The gift shop was really overpriced. It would have been nice to have a small breakfast option that wasn't as expensive. The maintenance fellow was very good as well as the lady at the restaurant during the day.

Great location right on the beach. Had a really cool store with drinks, snacks, icecream, and beach items. I really wanted the sand free towel but ran out of time. Air conditioning could've been a little cooler but that is my own personal preference. The "balcony" led to the roof of the awning of the hotel.

Gym sucks. But everyone was helpful nice and the beds were very comfortable.

It was clean and had very friendly staff I didn’t pay for an oceanfront, but I got a second floor room that overlooked a roof with HVAC unit. Basically couldn’t see anything. They put up a frosted plastic over the sliding glass doors. That was disappointing.

Great breakfast. Room was very comfortable and front desk and breakfast employees were very friendly and hospitable.

When we arrived the TV didn't work, refrigerator didn't work - had to be replaced, phone didn't work- we were locked out of our room on our second day because they had wrongly checked us out, front desk person was not nice when we told them tv wasn't working. I asked several times about an upgrade to a beachfront room and was told no because we booked through a third party. Just a thought: if we were willing to pay more for the room, and the rooms were available, why could this not be made possible? Evidently we were given a bad room because we booked through booking.com.

The hotel have over 120 rooms. The room type ocean view and balcony we have a room no view no balcony. Breakfasts not to interested.

I liked the access to the beach. The fact that check in was at 3 and my room wasn't ready. Until after 4:30 we even got there at 4 and was told to wait 5 min and stood there for about 20 min for a room and it wasn't even the room I paid for. There was hair in the tub and all over the floor in the bathroom . There was no ice bag or garbage bag in the room. And the fact that they force you to buy their drinks if you want to sit on the deck and have a drink....

Front desk was absolutely wonderful! Housekeeping was great! Our bartender (Mrs. Miller) was over the top 5 stars! Could use some work on facilities! Pool could be heated and hot tub looked dirty. Pool towels were not available. Refrigerator...who knows!! Overall, it was a great experience!

The location was great! Just a few steps from the ocean! The staff was friendly and the hotel was very clean. When I booked a room it only had "balcony" and did not offer to say what view. Two days before I am scheduled to arrive I receive an email saying I can upgrade to a better room for $267 with ocean view. While I enjoyed my stay I do feel like they need to fix the website so that people know what they are getting upfront. I had what they call a city view. Why in the world would anyone want to come to the beach to set on a balcony to look at a roof and into the surrounding houses? I kept the room because I had paid upfront for my room. Be ware of what you are actually renting when it come to this hotel.

It had changed a lot since the last time I stayed there, mostly all better. The breakfast charges were confusing. I was led to believe that 2 breakfast buffets were included but for our third guest we would pay, I didnt mind that however, when we went down for breakfast, we actually were going order from the menu so we would have to pay for all of it no proble., but there was only one person in kitchen and one in dining area working so they were only doing buffet again no problem. The problem came up when after we ate, we got a bill for almost 50$ and when I asked about the two included I was told I should have received coupons for the two meals if that had been included. No one said anything about this at check in or before we ate or anything. Honestly if I was going to pay that much I would have rather gone to a menu restaurant not a buffet.

Fantastic views, friendly attentive staff and clean rooms. The restaurant located on the ground floor had wonderful views of the sun rising and setting. I highly recommend this hotel for any length of stay. It’s very inviting .

The initial room I was assigned literally had the windows boarded up. It was weird. The hotel seemed empty and it was off-season. I went back to the front desk and asked for a different room. The next room was fine. The lobby had a musty smell in it, but it clearly had been renovated.

We were in a corner room on the 6th floor facing the ocean. Great view, beach is right below you and the water about a 60 second walk from the pool gate. Definitely a do-over, can't wait to go back. Danielle and Michelle were the receptionists when we checked in. Very friendly and accommodating.

This was supposed to be a smoke free hotel, I was told this included vaping. However, someone was vaping from their balcony and it reeked! On our 2nd night we were awakened to the fire alarm going off around 1:00 am, for no apparent reason and then again at 5:00 am. The front desk staff said he didn’t know what was wrong, but there was no fire. Our sink was stopped up and would not drain properly when brushing our teeth and the shower drain was so full of hair that it was completely clogged. I stood in water up to my ankles while showering with barely any water pressure. The front desk attendant, Danielle, was EXTREMELY rude and nonchalant when I asked about the fire alarms. I politely expressed my dissatisfaction over the cleanliness of our room, to which she responded, “I’ll have someone look into it.” No apology, no smile, or emotion, just horrible customer service. Safe to say, we will not be back.

The bad: The elevators were humid, dirty, and didn’t smell great. The hot tub was out of order and the fitness center had a huge puddle in the middle of the floor, was too humid to use and smelled very, very bad. The area around the ice machine smelled of vomit. The restaurant was on a limited menu due to 2 of their 3 chefs not coming in. Also good: The food we got was perfectly fine and the pina coladas were good. Our server was also very friendly and helpful.

It was fairly close to Myrtle Beach and Charleston. So we were able to do a good bit of sight seeing

Don’t know what in the world that was all about. Then they failed to tell me that because I paid through Expedia there were hotel charges that we’re gonna be charged to the credit card that I put on file so then they charged me Didn’t tell me I had to call and find out what that was in the front deck. Staff are just room except for the one guy that works late at night.

Nice location if you book ocean front Dont stay on 3rd floor facing parking lot. You can't sit on balcony. Kitchen fans are blasting up at you. They couldn't switch us as it was high season and nothing available. They did give us a some credit for the inconvenience. Which was fair.

Location is perfect. The property itself needs to be updated. We smelled weed being smoked the entire time there which made us feel uncomfortable as a family vacation spot. Police raided the room next to us which made us feel uncomfortable as well. The location was perfect, but we will VRBO next time.

The booking site said pay at the property. They run your card beforehand and tried to call and scare me that I was going to lose my room. Housekeeping tried to rush us out our last morning there.

The room that was offered to us doesn’t have a view/balcony or even a window. For the money that charged its absolute trash getting into this hotel. Not sure why would someone prefer a room without even a window.

Ocean view rooms are right over tbe pool--- which was terribly annoying with screaming kids. ...thankfully there is quiet hour. My room was very nice. Clean, very spacious and the bed very comfortable.

Acually the property was nice ,they were doi ng some kind maintenance on the grounds as you pulled in the parking lot on the right side just inside from the beach area. Between the parking lot and beach area , some kind of im provement. But i love the rooms especially the ocean view . 3rd floors and up.

This hotel exceeded our expectations, it was fabulous from the minute we checked in. The staff were awesome, hooked us up with a breakfast voucher. We were sitting out back by the fire and the manager brought us out hot chocolate. We will definitely stay there again!!!

Room overlooking the beach was lovely. Daily sunrises were a great way to start each day. Convenient to have a bar/restaurant downstairs, which always was busy.

Quiet and personnel were very helpful. Got up early - around 5:30 and went to get coffee and of course breakfast area not open so got coffee from the lobby and it was cold. Also I know it is by the beach but there was sand in the tub. Location was great and would stay again. But would appreciate coffee being hot.

Everything was wonderful except for the humidity in the room. Everything felt "wet". The bath towels wouldn't dry.
