Very good

We liked the old Hotel furnishings. And vintage atmosphere.
- 5/5
Checking in was easy, however if you’re staying in the next door lot, be sure to get a pass for your dashboard; I didn’t and learned the next morning that I was close to being towed away. Otherwise, nice big comfortable rooms, used the 15% off at Steamworks Brewpub, easy to walk to Riverfront. The included breakfast at Rosie’s was excellent!

Liked it
- 5/5
Excellent property in a very fun part of downtown.
- 5/5
The layout of the room. The lovely decor throughout the hotel. And the nextdoor restaurant.
- 5/5
Great historical building. Good location. Walking distance from all downtown things. Convenient parking if you're able to get a spot in the adjacent lot. Comfortable beds. Room can be loud due to nearby trains. Blinds are not black-out.
- 5/5
Beautiful historic hotel in downtown Spokane. Large rooms with high ceilings. There is a nice lounge area on the second floor with quality teas available. Beds are comfortable. I would definitely stay there again.
- 5/5
Great art everywhere. Charming decor.
- 4/5
This is the perfect place to stay if you have to be at a venue in downtown, however the parking is a little iffy. They have secure parking, but their secure overflow lot is a couple blocks away. I would totally stay here again though. There is not much for grocery in the area so plan accordingly, however there are dining options.
- 5/5
This hotel is a wonderful place to stay. It has been updated for the modern traveler but has retained the old world beauty. It is classy with its second floor lounge area.
- 5/5
Funky cool old hotel - enjoyed the decor and vibes here. Staff was friendly and helpful. Walls are a bit thin and could hear next door phone conversations but overall enjoyed my stay. Nice jumping off point to explore Spokane !
- 5/5
Was a great option for me and my kid beautiful spot near the local downtown area! Would definitely stay again.
- 4/5
The free breakfast at a neighborhood cafe was marginal. Coffee was not included and the "free options" were minimal. They offer $6 off other items. The breakfast sandwich was greasy. They could have at least offered the pancakes as one of the free options.
- 1.5/5
The room and the hotel itself was very nice and welcoming. The room on the other side of our wall blared their flat screen all night. Terrible.
- 4/5
Great restored hotel!
- 5/5
Everything was good
- 5/5
really enjoyed our stay at the Montvale. The bathroom was exceptionally clean. It lets me know housekeeping is paying attention to detail. We will stay again!
- 5/5
Great hotel for walking to the river as well as doing the Dryfly distillery!
- 4.5/5
Excellent overall no issues plus having restaurant on site
- 5/5
Really nice hotel in a cool building and good location. Only slight criticism would be no drink (not even a drip coffee) included with the free breakfast. Information in the hotel didn't mention drinks but when arriving at Rosies (where you get breakfast) the sign said drinks not included! The hotel had complimentary drip coffee so seems a bit strange, almost as if done by design!

Superb
- 3.5/5
was able to park next to hotel. Our venue was right across the street. I requested a shower with little or no lip - got a bathtub shower which I could not use
- 4/5
Beautiful hotel they kept very clean and comfortable rooms.
- 4/5
Very good
- 1/5
The hotel is located in a rundown area, and the photos don't accurately reflect what you actually get. My daughter did not feel safe staying there, so I asked if we could move to their sister hotel and offered to pay any difference in price. Despite both properties being owned by the same company, they declined to accommodate the request. I found that response disappointing and felt it reflected poor customer service. Overall, the experience did not meet expectations.
- 5/5
Very large suite
- 5/5
Great centrally located to bars and restaurants and fox theater.
- 5/5
Fabulous ambience, lovely communal lounge. Stylish hotel.
- 1/5
Room was not cleaned properly. We complained and left they did nothing promised a refund and never gave it. One of the worst hotel experiences of my life. I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy.
- 5/5
Great location in downtown! The room was the perfect size for our party of 6.
- 4.5/5
Good location, clean I don’t usually write negative comments but ….Hotel refused to store luggage for us even though we would be returning to the same hotel in a few days after a 3 day bike trip. We were forced to carried luggage on a cycling trip. Asked staff question about road side parking in front of hotel and she said “I don’t know”.

Great location directly across from The Fox theater and good value for your money. Room was clean, bathroom huge. Free (delicious) coffee on the 2nd floor common area before 5 am! Easy check in, cheap parking, and decent breakfast. Unique stay. The bed was too soft for us. Air system is loud and train near by. Bring ear plugs. We did and slept well.

The historic Montvale has a lot of vintage character and boutique hotel appeal. It's located downtown in easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. Inside, there is a large atrium with rooms located around the periphery, but it felt very quiet, almost too much so--the nice lounge furniture was never occupied. Our room was spacious, with cool historic art on the walls, but it was very dark once daylight was gone. No overhead lights in the high ceiling, and inadequate lamps. Too dark to pack a suitcase easily at nighttime. Comfortable bed, nice bathroom. The hotel provides a voucher for breakfast across the road at a sister property. But breakfast doesn't include coffee or tea! The Montvale has a coffee station of its own, but when you go to sit down at a restaurant for an included hotel breakfast, coffee should be included. Also, the two guys at the front desk (one was a trainee) could have used a bit more professionalism in their appearance and attire.
- 4.5/5
The staff was all very nice. I liked the furniture and decor in general. The breakfast was great- filled us up. There was an area at the top of the shutter blinds that never closed and brought too much light into the room at night.

Such a cool experience. Very old but well maintained hotel. Breakfast at the local cafe was terrific. Rooms were large and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
Cool place to stay downtown. Sheets were put on inside out, found an empty zyn container under the bed, one towel was ripped… the towels were pretty small… im 5’2” for reference. They fit my 7 year old better, bed was comfortable. Complimentary breakfast from rosies is really good. Id book again.
- 5/5
The hotel is in historical downtown Spokane, a little hard to find the parking but we were able too, the hotel is amazing in good shape, old and high ceilings, so beautiful. Breakfast was included and there is an elevator. As a travel agent I would recommend this hotel to my clients and anyone that wants to stay in a character hotel. We will be back.
- 4/5
great location for walking down to Riverfront park. The hotel is old and has been brought back but because it is old, unless you have considerate neighbors above you, it is a bit noisy. you can hear footsteps and loud bangs. The ventilation system was great one night, but not adequate the 2nd night ( air conditioning). We would return to this hotel again.
- 5/5
A very nice hotel near downtown Spokane. Large room - large, comfortable bed and linen. Extremely quiet for being just above the street. Decor was vintage but not worn. Spacious bath.
- 1/5
The hotel was beautiful and amazing. The only thing wrong was the ac was not working (room was 76dehrees), they gave me a loud fan, and I did not sleep all night. No offer to comp the room or anything. Very disappointing
- 4/5
Also, the free breakfast is a one block walk away at a restaurant. You get a choice of a breakfast burrito (which I might say was actually really good) or a couple other items. It is very well located in downtown Spokane and you can easily walk to any of the many restaurants and bars and the Riverfront Park area. The mall that is a few blocks away is also very nice.
- 5/5
Very spacious and clean room. Nice and comfortable bed and chair. Hotel has been maintained and retains its old charm.
- 5/5
Fun place. Excellent breakfast.
- 5/5
Everything else was wonderful; lots of history in those walls. No hauntings, oh well.
- 4/5
Be aware amenities are not on site. You have to park a couple blocks away and the restaurant serving breakfast is down the block.
- 5/5
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Keep in mind that the floor is very old and it’s incredibly hard to walk around in the morning without making a bunch of noise.
- 5/5
Great restaurants at the property and within walking distance. Perfect stop for a passing through town. I will return to this special property.
- 4/5
We really liked the hotel. It’s in an old building but kept up and kind of quirky (which we like), the free breakfast was not great, but we would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
The parking was convenient and secure. The breakfast at Rosie's was wonderful and appreciated. I was thankful for the coffee and tea station on the second floor too. The workout room was spacious and always available.
- 5/5
Great room. Lots of charm and perfect for going to knitting factory. The tap room attached had a good variety and was well priced
- 4/5
The Montvale was very pleasant! The rooms were clean and quiet. The staff was helpful, and everything needed to be comfortable was provided. The complimentary breakfast at a nearby diner was a nice touch.
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
Property was beautiful and felt very welcoming
- 5/5
Love this well kept old hotel in the heart of Spokane. Stayed here after a concert one night and it was everything we could want. Amazing shower!!
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel the room was very comfortable and very clean! We loved the connected restaurant for dinner and the yummy free breakfast we got from Rosie’s. Would definitely stay there again!
- 5/5
Great location!
- 4/5
The partnering with Rosie’s for breakfast options was such a nice perk, and they have great breakfast burritos!! Comfy bed and great size of rooms. Love staying here.
- 5/5
Exceeded expectations!
- 5/5
A cool place a tiny bit shabby in places, but so charming that it’s all great!
- 5/5
We’ve stayed here on several occasions and will do so again in the future.
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
Large pretty rooms, nice amenities and beautiful sitting area and decor.
- 5/5
Great stay.
- 5/5
What a great hotel and rich with history. I would stay there again!
- 5/5
Nice historic hotel with a retro vibe. Great downtown location. Hearty breakfast at neighboring cafe included. Secure off-site parking (block away) with EV chargers available.
- 5/5
Warm friendly hotel of historic value. Clean, quiet and close to everything downtown Spokane!!!
- 5/5
Clean room with prime location
- 4/5
Our stay was nice. It was close to restaurants. The amenities are okay. You have to pay for parking but I guess $5 is not too bad. The free breakfast is a few yards away @ Rosie's where you have 3 menu choices, otherwise it's $6 off whatever you choose. You have to buy coffee though. There's no coffee/tea maker in the room. AC is quiet.
- 4/5
Great room, parking wasn't good, but it was during Bloomfest.
- 5/5
Visiting Spokane for a race and the check in was easy, staff was very pleasant and helpful. Easy access to all amenities in Downtown. We always enjoy our stay at the Montvale.
- 5/5
So wonderful
- 5/5
Room was nice. Temp was comfortable. Bed was comfortable.
- 5/5
Great location downtown, friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable rooms.
- 5/5
A clean old timer hotel.
- 5/5
great experience overall.
- 2/5
On the positive side: The bed was super comfortable. The parking lot behind the hotel was convenient, and the hotel’s complementary breakfast at Rubies down the street was delicious. However, I can’t recommend this hotel, nor would I stay here again.
- 4/5
The stay was fine. I wish they had more gluten free options for the free breakfast menu.
- 5/5
I’m greatly enjoyed my stay at the Montvale. The people were friendly and the atmosphere was charming.
- 4/5
While the breakfast was nice it felt chintzy to have pay for regular coffee and tea
- 4/5
The history of the building is unique and eclectic. It was fun to stay in a piece of history in Dt Spokane.
- 5/5
I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It was nice and quaint. The staff were attentive and welcoming. We loved the restaurant that was o the bottom floor of the hotel called the Gilded Unicorn. The food was amazing, we had dinner there three nights in a row.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel in a good downtown location with convenient parking. Staff was excellent. Food at associated restaurants was very good.
- 5/5
Fun and funky decor. Cool restaurants nearby. Comfy room in a hotel w a great downtown location.
- 5/5
I loved this old hotel! And I love the business model of having breakfast at Rosies.
- 5/5
This hotel has a second floor sitting area, the rooms were quite large, and it was comfortable. Only drawbacks are the blinds do not quite block out the morning light, and the parking lot on site is small. There is a larger one a block away that you can use when this one is full.
- 5/5
Very quiet despite being downtown. Nice option for breakfast at local shop. Clean room.
- 4/5
Cute clean hotel in a super cool historic building. A little noisy as the walls are thin, but worth a stay if you’re in downtown Spokane.
- 5/5
Great weekend stay. Quiet and comfortable. Great location if seeing a concert downtown. Would stay again.
- 2/5
This was a pretty rough stay. The parking is an obvious mess with it being downtown but the hotel offered their parking at the cost of $10, 2 blocks away. We luckily found free street parking that was out front. We got to the room pretty late, the room is very clean no complaints there, but the AC did not work. We had to sleep at 75 degree through the entire night, aka, we did not sleep well. We did call to ask about it and they did offer us to switch rooms, but it was already very late and we were completely unpacked already. I just feel like housekeeping should keep an eye on that and make sure it's working before the guests arrive. The bathroom door would not shut as well. The entire place was also pretty creepy looking but I do understand that's the aesthetic. Still creepy.
- 4/5
Room was cute and the communal sitting area was very nice. Reminded me of a historical hotel I stayed in Scotland. Slightlt under perfect review as room was not ready by checkin
- 4/5
Did not eat breakfast or use A/C. Room was clean but needed some items like hangars and and towels. They were provided once we called.
- 5/5
The room was incredible! Very clean and extremely spacious. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary there and we both left wishing we could stay there forever! 10/10 will definitely be staying again in the future
- 5/5
Clean room, large space, good air conditioning, kiddy corner to the Knitting Factory.
- 5/5
Wonderful, quaint, historic hotel with lots of charm. The only downside was the breakfast situation—while the nearby restaurant sounded great, the wait time after ordering was so long that we ended up going elsewhere the second morning. It wasn’t a big issue for us, though, and we would definitely stay again
- 5/5
Property was immaculate, the restaurant was very very good. Staff was friendly and attentive. When I had a small issue with a broken thermostat maintenance was there in 5 min and had it fixed in under 5. And with a friendly attitude as well.
- 4/5
Very few parking spots at the hotel's location which is filled up fast, a secondary location is available about 4 blocks away, for a woman walked back to hotel after parking, I was chased by 2 drunken druggies on my way back. At daytime is fine but not safe at night..
- 5/5
The Montvale us our favorite place to stay in Spokane!
- 5/5
The Montvale is an AMAZING spot in downtown Spokane. Beautiful old school inn feel, rooma are spacious and clean. Staff is super friendly. And it's a good deal price wise as well. Stayed here 4x now, wouldn't hesitate to recommend or stay again, literally nothing good things to say. Thanks again Montvale!
- 5/5
Great historic property
- 1/5
The staff was rude. There was really gross leftover food in our fridge when we arrived. The towels were dirty upon arrival and then they charged us $2 for a wash towel. The parking is inconvenient. I would not stay there again.
- 5/5
Room is nice. Staff is wonderful. Breakfast at Rosies is delicious.
- 5/5
Old world charm. Nice central downtown location
- 5/5
We love to stay here when in Spokane
- 3/5
"Free hot breakfast" is at a restaurant down the block. Food was fine but restaurant charges $4 for a self-serve cup of coffee in a paper cup. No coffee machine in the room at Montvale so there you go.
- 4/5
Because it has more of a historic home feel, you can occasionally hear neighbors walking around, which is something to keep in mind if you’re sensitive to noise. The one drawback is the parking. If you plan to park once and explore downtown on foot, it works out perfectly. However, if you plan to come and go while exploring the Spokane area, keep in mind that you’ll likely need to walk about two blocks to reach your parking spot. Overall, it’s a great stay for anyone wanting to be right in the heart of downtown.
- 5/5
Nice historic hotel. The coffee bar are the second floor was a nice touch. Would definitely stay at The Montvale again.
- 4/5
It’s comfortable and clean. We liked it , and would stay there again.
- 5/5
The Hotel is beautiful! but don't treat it like a typical hotel, there's no convince store, or bottle service, etc. you'll need to leave to find a store around . small price top pay for a unique and beautiful place
- 5/5
Love this hotel! It is clean and the staff if friendly!
- 5/5
Lovely hotel historic features nicely restored. Great location walkable to many restaurants and Riverfront Park
- 5/5
Excellent stay. Very rooms were great.
- 5/5
Nice rooms
- 5/5
Great place to stay! I love the rooms and the location. Stay there every visit to Spokane :)
- 5/5
The interior was extremely well decorated and my only complaints was the bedding. The beds are too hard but, that's only my opinion. So all in all I would recommend this hotel for someone's stay in spokane
- 5/5
Absolutely love this hotel!
- 3/5
The rooms were clean, no coffee in room. Breakfast was a block away. Many unexpected charges.
- 4/5
Surprisingly interesting historic downtown hotel! Loved of street parking for a fee. Room was generous size, bedding was great and morning coffee set up on 2nd floor was fine
- 5/5
Room was spotless. The premier suite was extremely large and spacious, with all appliances working. Entire room was completely stocked. The room even had a washer/dryer that we didnt know was in there. Bathroom was very nice and large with the shower and bathroom having its own privacy door. Staff was excellent and very courteous. Highly recommend and will regurn myself.
- 5/5
Yes that place is great
- 1/5
Our room was right outside the lights that shine on the exterior sign and they were coming in through our wooden blinds that didn’t effectively shut the light out. I would not stay here again.
- 4/5
Price was perfect for the location! We were hoping breakfast would be offered closer and we had to pay $10 for parking that was two blocks away unfortunately.
- 3/5
Staff was great, hotel is amazing the loft units are not so much and poorly cared for
- 5/5
Nice room, friendly staff who were very knowledgeable about the city. Felt more homey than an average chain hotel.
- 5/5
No room service but the locatand the staff were great. This is a beautiful building
- 5/5
Clean room
- 5/5
Room was big and clean. It was very nice
- 5/5
Really unique place, great restaurants nearby, very helpful staff.
- 5/5
Beautiful room, the hotel was awesome. Super clean and great location
- 5/5
Great rooms
- 5/5
Great staff. They allowed me to check in early with no extra charge. The room was clean and spacious
- 5/5
Clean, comfortable
- 2/5
Front desk staff was clueless. Ad for “breakfast included” didn’t say it was outside one block away. When asked which direction to walk clerk couldn’t confirm left or right. Same thing we ask for directions to dinner at Wild Sage. Please train them on where restaurants are that you advertise. Also, by accident on our second day, we found coffee available on second floor. Would have thought it would be mentioned on check in. Your beds need a filler between mattress and headboard. You place 4 pillows on bed but 2 drop in this large divide as soon as u lay down. Bed is comfortable, rooms are clean, location is good but parking lot is small. First clue there would be problems? Tiny front desk with seated receptionist.
- 5/5
Loved the antiques. The location was great. Easy to get to the highway to get to the airport quickly.
- 5/5
Beautiful “old” hotel. Loved the main room right outside our room with couches and a fireplace. Very cozy. Would absolutely stay here again.
- 5/5
Clean room. Great staff
- 5/5
Yes
- 5/5
Lovely hotel with great staff. The restaurants and arcade downstairs are great!
- 5/5
It’s just a beautiful hotel. Historic, so clean and welcoming. Comfy beds, great staff, and quiet. Also within walking distance of music events, restaurants and shopping. Highly recommend. We have stayed many times and will be back!
- 5/5
Rooms were clean. Good coffee. Nice breakfast at Rosie's.
- 1/5
I complained and all they did is gave me some earplugs. I would’ve expected a full refund.
- 5/5
Clean room, location, cool hotel!
- 5/5
Great stay
- 5/5
Staff was super friendly, room is comfortable and big, and we appreciated the $10 secured parking. Definitely would stay here again! Note that the complimentary breakfast is a block away, not inside the hotel. Coffee is not included.
- 5/5
This place oozes downtown class - it has a really cool interior common area and the rooms are lovely. Its location can’t be beat - lots of restaurants and bars around and a perfect spot walk to a show at the Fox, Knitting Facotry or the Bing. Also, the staff are welcoming and knowledgeable.
- 5/5
Friendly staff and clean hotel.
- 5/5
Perfectly fine
- 1/5
Could be nice, but we were too afraid to walk in surrounding areas.
- 4/5
Lovely hotel with very nice common areas. My only quibble was that there was no coffee in the rooms - you have to go to the 2nd floor to a coffee station there. Fortunately, the coffee is very good.
- 5/5
Beautiful rooms and main areas, super close to restaurants/bars, walkable to shopping and all else. Would absolutely stay again
- 5/5
Great location, lovely older hotel, nice upstairs lobby for reading or sipping tea. Staff are friendly and know the area. Clean, comfy, quiet.
- 5/5
Friendly staff; beautiful, private lobby; clean room with tall ceilings; great restaurant downstairs; easy access to freeway.
- 5/5
Loved the history of the building. Clean rooms with comfortable beds.
- 4/5
The walls are very thin! But otherwise a great overall feel
- 5/5
They enjoyed how taken care of they were
- 4/5
Staff was quite friendly although when we rang the front desk the gentleman on the phone was not sure whether or not he could bring us extra towels as we added an extra night to our stay but he ended up being able to. The room was cozy with a vintage charm. Loved that the bathtub was quite deep with jets and would have loved to have a good soak but could see that it was quite grimy with grey buildup on them so just opted for a shower instead. The location was great for restaurants, shops, and the local comedy club was just a quick jaunt down the street. We also happened upon a really good coffee shop just two doors down. The parking is less than ideal as it is a two block walk so in the rain and the dark, it made more sense to just leave it there and hoof it. The lobby was charming with the Christmas decorations although not sound proof so those that opted not to observe the posted quiet hours, were able to have their conversations overheard. We would stay there again as the central location and price were great.
- 5/5
cool old hotel.
- 5/5
Carpet could use some care
- 5/5
The room was clean and well maintained. The staff was fantastic!
- 5/5
beautiful and spacious
- 3/5
Wall in the bathroom had black hair stuck on it by the light fixture and there was mold in the bathroom ceiling corner and wall. The room smelled like cigar smoke
- 5/5
Our stay at the Montvale hotel was very pleasant. It's style is very unique and rooms are very clean and nice. Close to all the downtown highlights. Highly recommended.
- 5/5
Amazing facility- historic with modern, comfortable update . Downtown , with access to everything!
- 3/5
I had booked the presidential suite for two nights, but the day we were to arrive, I was told that they had overbooked, and changed us to a loft room. The loft was nice and very large. However, the bathroom sink faucet was barely attached, so we could not use it. We told the front desk, but it was never fixed. As a result, we had to wash our hands in the kitchen. Also in the bathroom, there was some blood on the wall and no trash can. There was a TV in the bedroom and in the living room, but we couldn’t get either one to work, as there was no connection. We told the front desk and a staff member was able to get one of the TV’s working, but not the other.
- 5/5
Awesome hotel, I'll visit again.
- 4/5
Good place room clean
- 5/5
Very reasonably priced and comfortable stay in downtown Spokane.
- 1/5
Landon the host check in host was rude and unwelcoming. I felt a bias and that he would rather I left and not stay.
- 3/5
Amazing property. I would have given it all 5 stars except my check out experience was horrific. Landon was rude and discourteous and made me feel not only unwelcome but also that I was beneath him and helping me was painful and exasperating.
- 5/5
A very
- 4/5
Nice room; courteous check-in, great location. Only flaw was the 2 block walk to the parking lot.
- 5/5
Charming hotel. Front desk staff very helpful & courteous. Rooms HUGE & clean. Beds soooo comfortable. Great location. Very affordable.
- 5/5
This was our third stay at the Montvale and won't be our last. We love the mix of old and new, the staff are always terrific and the rooms are always well appointed.
- 4/5
Nice quaint little place. The walls are thin. The next room over was very loud, late at night. It was hard to sleep.
- 5/5
It was clean and quiet!
- 4/5
Not as good as past stays. Staff is great. Seems to have been acquired by a larger management company (Ruby). And the layout of this hotel is soooo cool with its interior spaces. First time I was woken up (twice) by some loud neighbors because of very thin walls (however the place is the oldest hotel in Spokane which makes it very cool). And the cleaning service was poor. Also our refrigerator wasn't working, which we only figured out on checkout, making any food inside suspect.
- 4/5
Quick stay
- 5/5
I would definitely come back.
- 5/5
The stay was great. The parking was the problem. Their lot is too small to accommodate. Once filled, you have to drive/walk a couple blocks to another parking lot and still pay for parking as if you were at the hotel. Not wonderful when its raining.
- 2/5
Room was nice in appearance and amenities and desk clerks were professional. CONS: The room was less than fully comfortable, all things considered: first, very noisy children next door banging furniture on the walls (or so it seemed) and making an endless ruckus. Walls are way too thin. We heard a neighbor's conversation on the other side as well. Hotel staff intervened at our request ca 10pm but still could hear talking and roughhousing from the room with children loudly till midnight. Light came in from bright lamps outdoors, despite a venetian blind. (No blackout blinds.) The bed was soft, pillows all lumpy, perhaps from repeated washings. The sink was almost blocked, collecting water when used. PROS: Nice sport bar with good food! Great location and handing parking. Heating control in room was excellent. Great housekeeping and front desk. Elegant historic hotel that we have visited many times before; this is our first negative experience there.
- 4/5
Overall it was great but our room wasn't 100 percent clean.
- 5/5
Liked that it was a historic downtown hotel with ambience. Enjoyed the Griffin restaurant on first floor. Good quality coffee and tea in the morning
- 3/5
There was mold on the ceiling in the bathroom, dirty grout, the hair dryer had a lot of lint in the collector - overall it didn't feel like a clean and refreshing space to rest our heads after a long night. The linens did seem alright and the room otherwise was average cleanliness. Unfortunately, due to the building's age you can hear every single sound and movement in the room above you on the floorboards. We might have gotten unlucky with our upstairs neighbors walking around non-stop at 3AM, but I'd bring ear plugs if staying here. When we arrived the attached lot didn't have any parking spaces yet, luckily they have an overflow option a few blocks away - but if you are solo and arriving late keep this in mind. The location was great, a lot of cafes and shops in walking distance. Easy to find on the road as well.
- 4/5
arrived late and had to park two blocks away.
- 5/5
A very nice space, open atrium very relaxed

The hotel was fine, what is terrible is parking. The lot was 2 blocks away and we had to leave at 4 am to get back to our hometown because we had to teach class the next day. The clerk did not tell us that the lot is locked down and we could not get to our car! My husband walked the 2 blocks to get our car and could not get in, we thought maybe we’d need our room key so I dragged both of our suitcases the 2 blocks to bring the key, which also did not unlock the gate. About 10 min later a dude runs out of another hotel lobby that was across the street from the lot to unlock the gate. It’s the most ridiculous situation I’ve ever come across.
- 5/5
Clean room and friendly staff, had a great visit thank you for hosting me
- 3/5
We were not informed when checking in regarding a change in parking location for overflow and got a parking ticket. We were also not told we needed to request service. We have stayed many times at the Montvale and so these changes caught us by surprise
- 5/5
Quaint, lovely, comfortable room. TV worked great. Shower was nice. Sitting area in floor lobby was comfortable.
- 5/5
Quality value
- 5/5
Absolutely beautiful and in the heart of downtown. We loved the presidential suite!
- 5/5
Polite.
- 4/5
A convenient place to stay. Unfortunately the parking is limited and the alternative lot is blocks away.
- 4/5
Nice property, well located, good service, clean.
- 4/5
Serviceable staff. Maid/room service EXCEPTIONAL. This property has the best cafe in Spokane steps away which should be recommended! Cool, historic building. Anyone who stays will be comfortable at this property.
- 5/5
Great value. Great staff. Very clean.
- 5/5
Staff at check in was most helpful and cordial and accomodatong. A wonderful first impression. And this property is outstanding as a historic hotel.
- 5/5
It’s very convenient and walking distance to shopping and dining. The restaurant inside is also very good, and I recommend giving it a try. I walked just a few blocks to the river and shopping. There are some homeless people around, but the streets seem to be well kept otherwise. Other than some outside noise, it’s a very quiet place to sleep. It’s old, but it’s in great condition and clean. Will be staying there again.
- 5/5
Love this hotel! I would visit again. The seating lounge sunroom was fantastic.
- 5/5
The room was clean and pretty. Property is close to many restaurants and shopping. Atrium is a nice space to hang out in and the beds are comfortable.
- 4/5
In case you don't frequent historic hotels, be prepared for floor creaking. If that bugs you, try to get a higher level room.
- 5/5
Pet friendly, beautiful older building. Creaking floors but the ambiance of the building is well worth it!
- 5/5
Spacious rooms
- 4/5
A great American historical building directly across from the Fox Theatre. Beautiful antique furniture in atrium area. Room was nice. Could use more pictures in room decor. Very comfortable bed. Clean room with great charm.
- 5/5
I love how beautiful and clean this hotel is.
- 5/5
We love the Montvale. We stay here almost every time we're in town for a concert and we ALWAYS eat downstairs at The Gilded Unicorn. We love it. The hotel is a great place for adults and couples.
- 5/5
Unique property! So close to Bing Crosby Theatre!
- 5/5
We always love staying at the Montvale. Excellent service and rooms.
- 5/5
Stayed here twice recently. Quite nice downtown hotel with historic charm. Nice coffee bar and seating area and staff quite friendly and welcoming.
- 5/5
We were in Spokane for a Black Happy concert and needed a place to rest our weary heads. To our delight the Montvale was within walkimg distance to the venue. We ordered food from one of the many restaurants and the parking was also convenient. The ceilings are high, and the windows are huge, a testament to how buildings used to be built. The history of the hotel is very interesting, and there is a wonderful coffee shop next door. Although the hotel does offer free coffee and a wonderful assortment of teas in a station on each floor. Very quiet and the bed was extra comfy. We would stay there again.
- 5/5
The Montvale is a great, classic hotel. It is literally across the street from our concert venue. Would definitely come again.
- 5/5
Good
- 4/5
Here quite often. I like how it was restored in a classy old-fashioned way. I would like to see more deli/vending options. There is nowhere on site to get water, Gatorade, a cold beer, snacks, etc. late at night without walking a few blocks through downtown Spokane to a a mini mart.
- 4/5
Great Stay.
- 5/5
Overall good stay. Montvale very walkable to surrounding downtown area. Clean rooms. Nice seating area with coffee provided on second floor.
- 5/5
The staff was helpful and polite. The room was incredible, with great views of the city and a very comfortable bed.
- 4/5
I had a nice stay. Older place that is well maintained. Quiet, clean, safe with friendly staff. I would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
We enjoy the Montvale & the Ruby Hospitality group in all. The Montvale is so nice & clean and smells amazing! All the Ruby employees we have dealt with have been very nice and very professional. We ALWAYS try to stay at a Ruby property when in Spokane for events
- 5/5
Great place to
- 4/5
It feels like there is no sound insulation in the wall between the rooms. We heard a lot.
- 5/5
Outstanding
- 5/5
The hotel is in downtown Spokane. Many nice restaurants in walking distance, as well as the river park. Bed was nice and soft. It was annoying, though, that it didn't have Netflix. That said, not a biggie. Would stay there again. Spokane was dope.
- 5/5
The staff are friendly and happy to help: we had a couple of packages delivered there, and they were waiting for us at check in. The car park is not big enough, and is first come, first park. That said, legal street parking is easy, and pretty cheap. We brought our old greyhound and had to sign a very stern document (and pay a fee) to get her in, but after that there was no fuss. Grass is at a premium in the town center - but the waterfront park and trail is close, and lovely.
- 5/5
Great location. Cool historic building and decor. Room was clean, bed was comfy, and the sunlit common area with coffee was perfect.
- 5/5
Hard to even mention anything after an otherwise perfect stay, but the floors can be a bit creaky if you have some… larger night-walker guests above you. Not terrible but enough to be a little annoying. Other than that, a wonderful hotel. Definitely would still recommend.
- 4/5
Its quirky, the walls are super thin, its an old building so thats to be expected. Woke up to the sound of a dog barking morning one, then the sound of my neighbor showering like they were in my room night two. The staff was very polite and kind, the location is great, the neighboring restaurants were bomb. Would go back probably
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay at Montvale. Cool, historic hotel with lots to do close by. Staff was friendly and property has lots of amenities. The atrium area is a great place to enjoy coffee and read. Also enjoyed the fitness center. Would recommend and would stay again if in the area.
- 5/5
Nostalgic hotel. Really nice sitting room on the 2nd floor
- 5/5
Absolutely love love this hotel! Very unique experience lovely super comfortable rooms. I will definitely stay again whenever I can. I want to stay in every room, they are all different!
- 5/5
Will be booking again soon
- 5/5
The Montvale Hotel was a very unique property that allowed access to some fun activities and dining options in the vicinity.
- 5/5
Unique, fun, and quirky vibe, along with comfortable, clean rooms. Parking options are reasonable, and there are several walkable options for food and drinks.
- 5/5
Lovely, restored 19th century hotel with large and comfortable rooms is very quiet. Coffee and tea is available around the clock and discounts at several nearby and excellent restaurants is a welcome addition.
- 4/5
Nice historic hotel in the heart of downtown.
- 4/5
Nice hotel with a good location. Unfortunately this picot of a bar does NOT EXIST at the hotel. There is no bar in the hotel at all, so don't book for this cute feature.

- 5/5
Walking distance from shopping
- 5/5
Excellent staff. Very friendly and helpful
- 5/5
Never did find the bar area in the photos with the rock wall, but loved this cute little spot. Suite was huge and new with exposed brick and even came with a washer/dryer (which we were not expecting, but definitely appreciated). Is a shower, not a bath. And no roll away beds. But overall beautiful property close to restaurants and bars. Had a huge overflow lot to park our trailer
- 4/5
The hotel was very cool as far as historic, we just didnt sleep great because someone's dog was crying to get out of its crate and some guests were very loud in the common area on the floor below.
- 4/5
Had to park off property, which wasn't ideal, and the walls are thin, so if you get some late night partiers, it will might wake you up. Otherwise, the place is historic and interesting!
- 5/5
Cool older property
- 4/5
Liked the historical hotel...interesting features, nice room, comfortable, plenty of room. 10$ to park in small gated parking lot...otherwise parking is 2-3 blocks away. Nice stay while passing thru.
- 5/5
Loved the old historic hotel. The lobby was small but the lobby upstairs was big and beautiful. Our rooms were very roomy with a big bathroom all renovated nicely but kept the old charm. Beds were very comfortable.
- 5/5
Cool historic hotel with modern amenities and tons of character.
- 5/5
A bit noisy in the living room as there was an alley out back. A toaster would have been nice.
- 5/5
We had a wonderful time at the Montvale, and will be returning in the future when we stay in Spokane. It is a beautiful hotel, and we enjoyed it very much!
- 5/5
Kudos to the staff for going above and beyond to make our stay excellent!
- 5/5
Our stay was fantastic what a fabulous elegant hotel Spotlessly clean and very comfortable Would highly recommend
- 5/5
This historic hotel is so cute!! We stayed on the 2nd floor and the room was really spacious. The beds comfy. There is a little courtyard on the floor that was filled with free tea and coffee...that was a plus. Only downside, that we could not control was we could hear the footsteps of the room above us, but it was not unbearable. I would definitely stay here again!!
- 3/5
You can do better.
- 5/5
Gorgeous historic property with lovely common areas and endless coffee service! Very pretty and very well maintained. The Gilded Unicorn in the cellar was a fantastic place too! Love this hotel.
- 5/5
Darling old hotel renovated and done beautifully. The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed. The bathroom was spotless and large. The linens were clean and fresh. Slight mix up at check in which was promptly resolved. Great room and terrific stay!

Clean spacious room with a king bed. Nice common space to hang out in. Upstairs room had squeaky floors which was annoying in the morning trying to sleep. Friendly staff.
- 4/5
Room was fine, door didn’t close by itself. Shampoo dispenser broke, haven’t seen my deposit refunded yet. I’m not sensitive to smells but the lobby fragrance went home with me.
- 4/5
We were quit taken by this lovely hotel! It’s the kind of place that invites you to sit and read a good book. We will definitely stay here again because of its innate charm. That being said, it has become rather worn down. The bed was lumpy (yet comfortable) and the furniture was showing its age. It was very clean, however. It really is a wonderful hotel, it just needs a bit of a financial investment to bring it back to its glory.
- 4/5
It was a cute hotel. I would want to stay on the top floor next time though. I'm a light sleeper and could hear the floor creak when the people would walk above me. It was nice that they provided discounts to a few nearby places as a guest of the hotel. Didn't love the parking situation. Was a little confusing getting back into the hotel after parking.
- 5/5
Staff attentiveness was top notch. Very helpful and super fast response for any needed extras. Property was clean and customer service gets a perfect score.
- 5/5
This hotel is SO cute! I stayed for one night as part of a road trip, and this was my favorite hotel. I took pictures of it because I thought it was so beautiful. My view was out towards this very cute little alley lit up with string lights and train tracks with trains going by! Not to worry though, I never heard the trains. The hotel is walkable to so many shops and restaurants, and the main park. My only complaint, which is so tiny, is this is a dog friendly hotel and the room I shared a wall with had a dog that was a bit loud & barky.
- 4/5
The old building has a certain smell that I didn’t care for. We could hear people talking in the room next to us very early in the morning. Could hear people walking above us at night. We hit our shins on the bed frame ending up with bruises. The bed was to soft.
- 4/5
I have stayed here many times for work. Nice older hotel, on the smaller side. I like the location. Parking can be interesting..smaller lot behind the hotel, and overflow lot down an alley. If I am a solo female it would make me concerned walking to/from, as there is a significant homeless population in the area. If the price is right, though, I choose this most every time.
- 5/5
Great hotel!
- 5/5
It was a classic antique property with updated modern amenities.
- 5/5
We loved the historic building with modern amenities.
- 5/5
I really enjoyed my stay my family enjoyed all the cute extras. Well worth the money multiple places to eat within walking distance will be back.
- 5/5
I would definitely stay here again. Great location, accommodations and price for a Spokane stay.
- 5/5
the whole day with big chairs and sofas to sit and have a quiet time. It's also located an easy walking distance to shopping and restaurants. It's got pretty creaky floors so I suggest getting a top floor room because footsteps from above can keep you up. I wish they supplied water bottles - so bring in your own water. But other than that, I really liked the place.
- 4/5
Kayla at the front desk was kind, she let us check in early. another gentleman showed me the gym. it was a far walk.
- 5/5
We stay here a few times a year and always have a nice, comfortable stay. The parking is convenient for the downtown area.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room, great location for walking to venues nearby.
- 5/5
Clean, friendly staff! Always enjoy staying here.
- 5/5
Great looking older hotel. Looked great!
- 5/5
Would definitely stay again and recommend to others
- 5/5
Great place, parking fee was a surprise but othewise great.
- 5/5
Nice place, even nicer staff.
- 5/5
A really cool hotel. Very haunted (in the best way) vibes. Loved our room. Comfortable bed.
- 4/5
Old hotel that has been nicely updated, but retains a nice vintage feel. Over all nice but not as good a value as in the past.
- 4/5
Easy stay, had parking and downtown is walkable. Older hotel, but up kept and clean. Community coffee area was nice. Comfortable bed.
- 4/5
- 5/5
Large room - very clean and comfortable
- 3/5
Large room with comfy bed - decor lacking which made the room feel very unwelcoming. Hotel itself is nice, but old, so floors above squeaky during the night. The basement restaurant vibe was excellent - cozy with good food and service.
- 5/5
I had to stay at the hotel I was also my last name. And that is the Montvale Hotel once the host resized my last name his reaction was priceless lol. Beautiful rooms, and common area.. the staff is very friendly also.
- 3/5
I love the smell out in dining area everything was clean. But I did not like getting charged $176 when it was supposed to be $75 for deposit.
- 5/5
Beautiful and the people were very friendly
