Reviews
The Ballard Inn is a historic hotel with a prime location in the heart of Ballard, Seattle. Guests appreciate the cleanliness, charming decor, and friendly staff, but some find the shared bathrooms, small rooms, and lack of air conditioning inconvenient.
- Prime location in Ballard, Seattle
- Clean and charming decor
- Shared bathrooms
- Small rooms and lack of air conditioning
- 3/5
Having to drag luggage down the street to check in, then drag them all the way back was a security issue. Rooms were forever small. Portable AC unit in room didn't work properly.
- 5/5
Otherwise fantastic! Spent a weekend there for a solo getaway and would definitely return. There’s a farmers market right outside on Sunday mornings which is an added bonus!
- 2/5
Not great, room is small, best suited for a solo travelers. Not accessible outlets, no place to get ready. Fan and refrigerator take up so much room in an already small room.
- 5/5
A+
- 1/5
The room was extremely small, and the bathrooms were not located within the room itself — something that was never made clear upfront. I requested a room in the main hotel building, not an separate annex. The photos displayed online are highly misleading and do not accurately represent what guests actually receive for the price paid.
- 4/5
The parking can be difficult to navigate if you are not familiar with the area. I was not aware that I had to register at one location and stay in another, so that was a bit overwhelming. Also, not having a bathroom in the room was a bit frustrating. However, the property itself was great, and the staff was extremely helpful!
- 3/5
When you walk in, a very STRONG cloyingly sweet air freshener smell (not too bad in the room). I realized during my stay it's because it's trying to hide a very, very funky underlying smell. Also, my room was across from the shared bathrooms, big mistake. Why do people slam doors at 1:00 am? Good enough due to proximity to the event venue. Expect to be woken up early and late by the noise.

This was the best stay I’ve ever had in Seattle! It was amazing from start to finish! Daniel was fantastic at check-in—cheerful, polite, and very helpful! And it was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in (I hope I can find out the brand—I forgot to ask). Thank you so much! ??
- 5/5
The room was beautiful and clean! Adorable little building. We got a room with a bathroom and it a view of the main street. The only thing I can think of is that there should be better direction on where to check in and park. You have to check in at the Ballard hotel to get the key to the Ballard Inn. It was easy once we figured that part out. It was a great stay. Bed was comfy as well. Will definitely stay again!
- 1/5
So loud and other guests erred disrespectful at night so loud. Never stay here again.
- 2/5
To noisy!!!! No air
- 2/5
Everything was actually nice EXCEPT we didn’t pay close enough attention (neither did the other couple on our floor) because there is no bathroom. There is a shared bathroom in the hallway.
- 5/5
The room was clean, bed was comfortable, it was a great night.
- 4.5/5
Close to good food and music The history of the place and clean, comfortable too
- 2/5
Parking felt safe but definitely should be included w room price.
- 5/5
Convenient location! Nothing, it was perfect!
- 5/5
Room was clean, GREAT location! Would stay here again.
- 5/5
Clean, great location!
- 3/5
Could hardly get in the room, door meets bed
- 3/5
Staff was great! Location was awesome and felt very safe! Room was clean. Room was also facing busy streets so it was noisy late into the night. Earplugs were provided. The first night the room was too warm, so they provided a fan the second night which was a win to cool things down as well as drown out the noise. The bed was really hard…
- 4/5
It was a little noisy, especially once the concert let out and bars closed, but nothing earplugs couldn't drown out!
- 3/5
It was extremely difficult to find a temporary parking place to check in, so as to be able to access the parking garage.
- 4/5
Clean room
- 1/5
Keycards stopped working multiple times forcing me to go down the street to the other hotel a block down to get it reprogrammed. No bag service to the second floor no elevators. Shared bathrooms are small. I got stuck with now working keycard at 3 am after leaving the room to go to the bathroom.
- 0.5/5
This was a terrible experience. The room was musty and no bathroom in it . We paid way more than we thought since I was billed through booking.com and an additional $100 thru my partners credit card by the front desk .
- 5/5
Nice rooms, friendly staff!!
- 4/5
Nice
- 5/5
Parking garage was easy to find and use.
- 5/5
The room was very clean. The people were very nice and the location is amazing food nightlife bar, etc..
- 5/5
I checked in at 12am and the front desk clerk totally made my night like an old time friend
- 2.5/5
In Ballard Shared bathrooms
- 2/5
Check in at the Hotel Ballard down the block. Shared bathroom down the hall. Tiny room on street level, felt like I was sleeping on the street. The provided ear plugs were telling! Mattress is wall to wall so not recommended for tall folks. Coffee/tea available in lounge which was nice. This was okay for a last minute overnight. Definitely the poor cousin of the associated Hotel Ballard.
- 5/5
Fantastic staff, cute room, fun brands used
- 5/5
Great health club
- 3/5
Location was good, room was dated
- 5/5
Our stay at the Ballard Inn was very comfortable and clean. We were able to walk to restaurants and shopping. Housekeeping staff was very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely stay there again! Thank you
- 4.5/5
The location was perfect for us. It was walking distance to everything that we needed. The Sunday street market was also a special treat. An extra blanket in the room would have been nice as the room was a bit cool. We were there in mid October.
- 5/5
Very small room but adequate for my needs. Lobby with coffee was very welcome.
- 5/5
Great option for an affordable stay in Ballard.
- 5/5
Our room and stay received an excellent rating because we reserved a room with a bathroom. We could not imagine having a shared bath and toilet.
- 1.5/5
Location Room smelled like a wet dog. TV couldn’t connect to channels. Way over priced.
- 4/5
Extremely convenient to restaurants and other shopping. Very walkable, a unique antique!
- 1/5
I was put in a room that was in no way comparable to the photos online. The TV did not work in the room, there was no bathroom in the room but a shared community bathroom in the hall. The building was old and haphazardly painted and decorated. The room we stayed in was incredibly hot (No HVAC) and incredibly loud. This room and experience was not what I booked and I paid way too much given the quality of the accomodation.
- 5/5
Quaint inn. Convenient location. Lots of places to eat nearby.
- 5/5
No Air conditioning but lots of fans and we were glad to book a room with ensuite bathroom. Our corner room was wonderful! And withthe Farmer's Market right putside, what a great and lively street to enjoy!
- 5/5
Our room was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The only things that could be improved are having to go across the street to get ice and no phone in the room.
- 1/5
Don’t think this is a hotel! It’s a hostel with shared bathrooms and definitely not worth the money! The noise was horrible on the first floor- from the street and inside the hallway. We couldn’t sleep from before midnight and past 5am because of the noise! Also no where does it mention that pool and sauna are all in the other MAIN hotel that is across the road and no one wants to wear a robe and run in a middle of Ballard across streets to go to spa that is advertised here! Don’t book it! It’s a total garbage!
- 3/5
My daughter lives in Ballard and said we should get a room at the Ballard Inn. She was thinking of the Ballard hotel, the newer part of this establishment. Ballard inn is “historic” and creaky, smells musty. Our room had a portable floor air conditioner that couldn’t be noisier. The television didn’t work properly, there was no way to get in touch with the desk except call from our mobile (different building) and that was a 1 out of 5 chance they would answer the phone. We had a shared bathroom with the entire hall (I thought we had adjoining rooms and shared a bathroom with our family). For $400+ a night this was a loss. One nice feature, the gym next door was nice and we had full access. The noise outside was like Bourbon street but they did supply ear plugs. We had to drag our bags up the stairs and there is no valet. I travel a lot for work. This reminded of an economy inn or a boarding house. The hotel looks pretty nice- so if you book this place, I would say make sure you are in the hotel not the inn.
- 2/5
This is an old hotel that has no staffing - you must go to another hotel nearby to checkin. This hotel was stuffy and smelly, the room was very, very basic, with standing AC unit with pipe out the window, remote control for TV didn't work. Paying $300+ for this room felt outlandish. The staff (who come from the other hotel) were lovely, the other hotel is lovely. But please know that the pictures of the gym are not in this facility, which is rather run down.
- 0.5/5
Your website is very misleading if I would have known that I was staying in a hostel I would not have booked with you. I paid almost 300 for a tiny bedroom and had to walk to hotel ballard to do everything. Very unhappy. Your hotel is awful I will never stay again. And I will never recommend anyone else. I feel like I need a refund because I feel so mislead. If I could rate it a 0 I would.
- 2/5
sidewalk. So small the bed took up all space in room no closet and the television required a computer specialist to make it work. The best thing about the room was a very comfortable bed
- 4.5/5
Very very small room. d.
- 3.5/5
Location Did not mention there was NO elevator, and NO bathrooms inside the rooms!
- 3/5
The people work great and the bed was extremely comfortable I wish there were more places outside my room where wi fi was good. I also wish there had been more then.A couple of pieces of fruit available in the morning.
- 1/5
This place needs to close. It is absurd that they bait and switch people with website pictures. My family showed up for four evenings and would not stay. Of course to late to cancel.
- 3/5
We anticipated a shared bathroom situation given the historic hotel. What we didn’t anticipate was the front desk is essentially at the Ballard Hotel, parking is tough in this neighborhood, and the swimming pool is located at the athletic club across the street which requires a lane reservation plus closed early (much to the dismay of my kiddo).
- 4/5
Cute, fun, affordable place to stay in a great location. Access to the athletic club was amazing
- 5/5
small, personable, center of major district in Seattle, close to all amenities - staff at desk 24 hours all A OKAY
- 4/5
Guy helping us when we checked in at the ballard was very kind and helpful
- 5/5
Ballard has many options for dining and is near the locks which are a must see. Ballard Inn is perfectly situated in the middle of everything.
- 4/5
Wonderful spot in the heart of Ballard! Outdoor noise is less than I expected during the week, however noise from other occupants coming and going is disruptive at times.
- 5/5
As long as you are ok with the shared bath situation, this little sister of Hotel Ballard is a great deal. Ideally located, very comfortable beds, and way quieter than we expected given the busy and vibrant neighborhood. Staff was great as well.
- 5/5
The manager when we checked in was excellent at understanding about the fact I was having a Knee replacement and the booking I made had no elevator and that I needed one and with a little increase in cost we were given a terrific room Everything was great
- 5/5
So cute and quaint. Very small, but cozy and comfy room. We weren't expecting to have a shared bathroom experience (facilities are in the hall and shared by several rooms)…but it was never an issue and fun for our son to experience.
- 4/5
Nice area. Staff kind of meh.
- 1/5
Once arrived no one there to greet me at Ballard Inn. Hotel Ballard assisted me and I was able to book with them and my stay was great. Thanks !
- 3/5
Half way decent, but the mini fridge was completely molded over. We had to throw away leftovers and remove fridge from the room.
- 5/5
We loved that is was within walking distance from the venue for the concert we attended.
- 5/5
The gym accompanying the Ballrd Inn is the best part.
- 4/5
Liked the stay, but it was LOUD. Did not expect that. Total bummer.
- 4/5
The overall stay was more for location convenience but comfort was on the downside. Shared bathrooms and thin walls it’d remind you of college dorming days. How the listing says 3 people can stay is beyond me cause that Full bedroom was relatively small. Mattress could also stand for update as the middle sinks you in. Not fun with two people waking up achy. Overall it was a nice stay and unique experience to do once.
- 3/5
Check-in was down the street at a different hotel. The room was quite expensive for what we got; the room was quite small and the communal bathroom was a bit inconvenient. It's a good central location if you're spending time in Ballard.
- 3/5
Shared bathroom but a pretty cool older building. Walls are paper thin and no ac. It’s a bar area so expect to hear people tell about 4 am.
- 4/5
Staff somebody for check in
- 4/5
Bathroom is shared but it's clean. The building has a long history and I quite enjoy the historical aura.
- 3/5
The room and bathrooms/shower room themselves were clean.
- 1/5
will never book this hotel again.
- 2/5
Overall, it wasn't a good experience. We paid for a King deluxe suite and were given a standard room on the ground floor. It was pretty noisy, but that's to be expected given the location of the hotel. However, the window couldn't be closed because of the AC unit, which brought smoke into the room. The TV didn't work, the mattress was uncomfortable, and the shower was tiny. It wasn't worth the money and I won't be back.
- 5/5
Adorable property close to shops, restaurants, and bars.
- 5/5
The manager upgraded my room to one with a bathroom in it and was very nice and accomodating!
- 4/5
This is a historical hotel that has been fixed up but you have to understand that it’s small rooms and shared bathrooms/shower. There is no staff to greet you. It’s all done at their more expensive hotel a few feet down. The bed was very comfortable. It’s a bit noisy w thin walls and traffic going by. For what it is, the price is a bit too high.
- 1/5
The room was not was shown on their add, i had 2ft x 2 1/2ft around the bed to walk and a shared shower , and the window was in the area everyone comes out to smoke and chat, this room was the worst i have ever stayed in
- 5/5
Great location and the access to the gym is awesome. We didn’t realize when booking that the room had a shared shower and bathroom, but that was never a problem and the facilities were clean. Really comfortable bed.
- 5/5
The gym
- 2/5
We felt the property description was devoid of the limits in our room. No chair, no dresser, no in suite, very small room. The air conditioner was welcome but took up a fair share of our limited space and was very loud. It is clean with a large bed but in our opinion does not justify the price. For a little more you can get much more; you’re paying a lot for location which is great. Felt safe with a lively neighborhood.
- 4/5
Very small room
- 5/5
There is no one at the desk to assist in anything so you have to call them and the other location Ballard hotel, is just down the street. We would definitely stay again. It was the best location to walk around and see the sites.
- 3/5
My mistake but upon checkin we discovered our room did not have its own bathroom and was shared. The price did not reflect a tiny room with a shared bathroom. We checked out and booked at their sister property for triple the price. That room was fine. Again, the pricing did not reflect the level of amenities you would expect. No robe, no mini bar, coffee wasn’t great… just a ‘meh’ experience
- 1/5
Hidden parking fees per night, rooms not what they show on picture, and you have to walk across the street to get to your room, not worth the price, never staying here again.
- 5/5
Had a great stay
- 5/5
Inexpensive, central location
- 4/5
Hotel a little dated but cute and clean. Comfortable bed. The athletic club pass was a huge bonus!
- 5/5
Wonderful old hotel!
- 2/5
Good place to stay in the entertainment district
- 5/5
The Ballard Inn, while smaller than the Ballard Hotel, is a gem of a property and we highly recommend it! The reception area is often closed so you have to go to the Ballard Hotel to get your room cards/check in, but it's only a couple of buildings down and not a hassle. The shared bathrooms are very well-maintained and clean; the rooms are small but beautiful and are the perfect size if you're staying in Seattle for a night or two. All in all, a great place with a wonderful history that shouldn't be overlooked!
- 1/5
I would not recommend this place.
- 5/5
The staff was very helpful and friendly- we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The history of the the location was very interesting as well. We were able to walk to the Ballard Locks and the Botanical Garden from the inn.
- 4/5
We arrived super early and the folks at the Hotel Ballard (the sister property) were super welcoming. Our primary reason for not giving a 5-star rating is that the room was very, very small. It was too small for two people to stay in very long. But if you want a nice, clean place to stay in a great part of Seattle at a very good price, the Ballard Inn is a good choice.
- 5/5
Old and cute. Very friendly staff. Sister hotel 2 doors down with restaurant. Both hotel and Inn very clean
- 3/5
rooms have no bath or shower was 90 outside used fans for comfort
- 5/5
We chose the Ballard Inn as it was close to the cruise ship port. The area around the Ballard Inn is very quaint and easy to get around. Easy access to restaurants and shopping. The Ballard in is more of a B and B style. Shared bathrooms and smaller rooms but no restaurant as there are many within walking distance.
- 4/5
One caveat, I think the place may have a rodent problem as I noticed what I think was mouse poop in the shared washroom -by the sink and by the hallway light switch fixture. It’s an old building so I’m sure a few mice may be inevitable, but a bit off putting nonetheless.
- 5/5
Even with bathrooms down the hall, we never had to wait!
- 4/5
Good lower budget option (not that anything is low budget or value priced anymore)
- 4/5
My room was very cute and comfortable. The shared bathrooms was fine… That comes with these older hotels. I think it should be a little more clear that the pools and spa are in a building next-door. Also, it was weird that I had to walk to their other hotel across the road and upstairs to get ice (frustrating) Otherwise, it was nice.
- 5/5
Would stay again!
- 4/5
Ballard Inn is located right in the heart of Ballard. Fantastic location. Ballard has an amazing Farmers' Market every Sunday which we enjoyed so much more than Pike's Place Market. And the locks and a garden are within walking distance. Cannot beat this location. Only downsides are the rooms are noisey and not very dark but they do provide ear plugs. And they do not have air conditioning and we happened to be there on an 85 degree day. Yet we still enjoyed are stay immensely. Many great restaurants just outside the door.
- 5/5
Property was right in the heart of the Ballard neighborhood- great eats, coffee and local brews.
- 5/5
We loved the hotel and the location. It is a noisy street but with the windows closed and our little fan that was provided, it didn’t bother us
- 4/5
Convenient, cost-friendly property next to Ballard night-life district
- 4/5
awesome overall great value
- 5/5
The room was clean although a bit of noise from the street through the evening. Ok during the night. Bed comfortable. Didn’t appreciate the bathroom was shared until check in but clean and pleasant. Could do with an extra power outlet in the room.
- 2/5
You get what you pay for. Shared shower and bathroom no elevator for upper floors. Little ice but available a block away. Room very small and no AC. in 90° degree weather.
- 2/5
For the price it was not a good deal...we got a beautiful cabin in Orcas Island for pretty much same price. Shared bathrooms, tiny room with nothing but a bed, no AC so it was hot but hard to keep windows open as it was street level and noisy
- 5/5
The Ballard was an awesome choice. right in the heart of Ballard. The staff was wonderful and even helped with airport transportation. the inn is lovely. The added bonus of free access to the health club next door was a big plus.
- 5/5
This place is in a great location for dining, and the property itself is unique and interesting. The room we stayed in was tiny, but had everything we needed. Share bathrooms aren't ideal, but didn't cause us any issues.
- 5/5
very clean rooms
- 5/5
Common bathrooms, still very quiet/clean, no problem with access
- 5/5
This is a lovely inn that is clean, nicely decorated, and in a great neighborhood. Other reviews note the shared bathroom which really was not an issue—never had to wait and bathrooms are very clean. Expedia shows photos of a gym and pool and these are listed amenities but this is the private gym across the street that is not included with the room!
- 4/5
Nice location for exploring!
- 5/5
Very comfortable room
- 5/5
Very clean, great staff and centrally located to shopping and restaurants and local sites/Locks/neighborhoods. Room was small but we had our own bath. Entry to our room was off a side street (so not from within the Inn) and people walking on the sidewalk could be heard from within the room - but - the Inn provided earplugs which cancelled the noise! Had a good nights sleep!
- 5/5
Excellent location, clean no frills but fair price. I would gladly stay again.
- 2/5
I was disappointed in the room/accommodations and what I paid for the room. The walls are thin (heard snoring all night long), and on a busy street that had a bar across the street...just not a good experience- I will never stay there again.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel within walking distance to many great restaurants and shops. There was a Farmers Market right outside the front door where we got the most delicious breakfast sandwiches. A quick drive to the Ballard Locks and Discovery Park. It is an older hotel and a bit noisy, ear plugs provided but we did not use. Most rooms have shared bathroom facilities but they were sparkling clean and there was never a wait. Overall a great experience, I hope to stay again!
- 4/5
The rooms are comfortable but small. All table surfaces are mirrored, so using a mouse is difficult. Location is great and the staff are friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
I suggest putting small coffee makers in the rooms if possible.
- 4/5
I wish I had the opportunity to stay in a room with a private bath. Will definitely stay here again with a private bath.
- 4/5
Beautiful European style hotel. Just needs ice machine and more bottled water.
- 3/5
If you can tolerate a shared bathroom in the hallway and tiny & intensive space for sleep, this hotel might be okay regarding its location and level of cleanness. Oh, you also need to stand for a small ventilation cycle.
- 3/5
Very clean. Didn’t like share bath.
- 2/5
This is a pensione style hotel. You have to share a bathroom with other guests. Had I known I would never have reserved a room there. You need you put that in big type across the listing. It's dishonest not to.
- 1/5
Shared bathrooms, small rooms without mirror/ faucets.
- 5/5
The decor was fabulous, best location- right in the heart of a wonderful community. The staff was very pleasant & helpful. Would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
quaint
- 5/5
Fabulous location, excellent customer service, quaint and charming. Loved the history of the building and decor that gave a nod to its beginning but with all the comforts of the 21st century. Will definitely consider it when I visit again!
- 3/5
I liked the set up and the cleanliness. I Did Not like having to share the bathroom. I thought it was very expensive and on top of it, I had to share the bathroom with complete strangers.
- 5/5
Since we weren't able to make it to Norway this year for the 17th of May celebration, we decided to take a weekend trip to Ballard to see the Nordic sites. This hotel was perfect for our brief weekend. It does get pretty noisy at night, however we were provided earplugs and after putting them in, we were completely fine. We will most likely stay here again.
- 5/5
I thought it was a cute little place. Loved the linens and bed was pretty comfortable. I shared a bathroom but I knew that would be the case so I was fine with it. It was in close proximity to my room and there seemed to be plenty of “powder” rooms. The floors were so squeaky that I was afraid I would wake everyone. Lol. My one disappointment was that there was no coffee!! I was expecting it and when I got up to have a cup and leave in the morning, there it was not there. 😒
- 3/5
Property was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful. The shared bathroom / shower gave the feel of a hostel or dorm. I was in town for 4 nights attending a seminar as I am in the area about twice per year and I won't be back. You can hear everything in adjoining rooms and the gentleman next to mine yelled, cussed and screamed constantly. Usually at the tv, traffic outside, or just to himself. One night he turned up his tv full volume for a classic country infomercial and screamed the whole time. Another night he left the tv on full volume with baseball highlights...another night he just cussed and yelled. It seemed that he had been staying there for a while and there was no way management was not aware of his behavior...it seemed to be ignored. I am pretty tolerant and don't have much for expectations but I won't risk a stay like this again.
- 3/5
Bed very comfortable. The only problem . No heat in the room . They provided a very small space heater . Not much good. If you don’t mind sharing a bathroom . Its a nice place. Staff very professional.. Still think its overpriced . But its in the heart of trendy Ballard.
- 4/5
Great location!
- 4/5
great location very cool urban boutique hotel parking is a problem, a valet will help
- 5/5
Its like stepping into a tine machine. I did share bathroom but not a big deal.
- 3/5
Love this hotel, unfortunately one of the other guests was up at 5am , roaming the halls, yelling into his phone about the police, shouting profanities etc., and since there was no one working there during the early morning hours, it went on, off and on throughout the entire morning. Otherwise I had a good experience.
- 4/5
Easy check-in despite a last-minute stay request at midnight!
- 4/5
Because of the unique way the building has been re-purposed, some things take some getting used to: e.g, no closet in the room, no seat in the shower room.
