    I rarely leave negative reviews, but our stay at The Modern Sarasota was filled with issues from the moment we arrived. To make matters even more disappointing, this was not just a random weekend stay. We stayed from Friday through Sunday as part of my birthday weekend, a surprise getaway planned by my wife. Instead of spending the weekend relaxing and celebrating, we found ourselves dealing with one issue after another. Despite all the problems we experienced, we never once received a visit, phone call, or even a simple acknowledgment from management. For a hotel that claims to value its guests, we certainly didn’t feel like valued customers. If you are a wheelchair user, have mobility challenges, or require accessible accommodations, I would strongly recommend another property altogether.

    The staff was also incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Valet was easy, check-in was smooth, and everything just felt relaxing and well taken care of. It definitely felt like the perfect mix of upscale and fun. We stayed for a special occasion and it made the whole weekend feel even more memorable. Would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a trendy, relaxing Sarasota getaway or staycation!

    Rooms were nice, location was perfect for the play we were seeing. Restaurant food was just okay. Nothing really exceptional. I had two old fashion’s from the bar and they both tasted completely different. Again they were just okay.

    Allowed an early check in 👍 Had a really cool poolside room with a curtained patio. We spent all afternoon poolside with drinks from great bartender. Only downside was we came back from dinner/drinks @10:30 pm and power was out on the whole block 😔outside their control. Management was accomodating to this issue.

    The entire staff was extremely welcoming, helpful, and courteous. Hotel and room was very nice and was close to downtown and beach. Will definitely be staying there again the next time we come to Sarasota to visit.

    This hotel does not meet what you would expect from a Marriot. Sheets were stained. Not ok. Floor was dirty from spilled drinks obviously from previous people staying there. Bathroom was short of lighting not good for shaving and or putting makeup on. Small thing but still not a good. We paid $42 for overnight parking tipped the valet $5 and was asked if we needed help with our luggage. Really? Not an overall good look for Marriot.

    Upon arrival, the front desk attendant was nowhere to be found. We waited 15 minutes nobody assisted we had to find a bartender to find the attendant to get us checked in. The front desk never called to let us know when our room is gonna be ready so we didn’t access our room until late. We love the hotel but Customer Service is lacking.

    The cleanliness and the front staff were nice. The restaurant and bar were closed for renovations. They should have alerted guests prior, as we would have gone to another hotel. They could have sent an email saying it was closed. It was chilly and rainy, and we had to eat at the pool bar both lunch and dinner, which was not cheap. Between the hotel and food, along with the resort fee, the total came to well over $ 1,000 for one night. The mattresses were hard and seemed of poor quality. we wont be back. As a long-time Marriott member, we wont be staying at this hotel in the future.

    We stayed one night for a NY Eve dinner and thankfully it was only one night. The staff is super friendly; the facility was decorated for the holidays and is in a good location, that makes walking an option. The one issue we had was that there was no hot water in the shower and apparently had been going on for a couple of days. We should have been made aware of the problem and maybe given us free parking.

    Pool area is exceptional, including both a large, heated jacuzzi and cold plunge pool. It could get noisy during the middle of the day, with more children using it than I might have anticipated. The balcony in our room was a big plus and definitely worth the extra money. Location is excellent, with restaurants and attractions within a 10 to 15 minute walk. There were a few quirks, such as the inability to provide a "do not disturb" sign for the door. They also ran out of pool towels one day and took several hours to replenish them.

    The sleeping area was so small that my husband had to squeeze between the bed and TV to get out. The tv was so close to the bed you couldn't even watch it. In addition, all of the wires was hanging from behind the tv and you could not open the fridge with out opening the opposite cabinet door. But the tea was great.

    The deco is a bit worn out and outdated. The elevator and rooms have a nasty smell but the exceptional service from the valet, restaurant bar, main desk absolutely everyone made the stay perfect. Love the fresh flavored water in the lobby and complimentary cold water bottles given by the valet/doorman

    The only thing nice was their pool. Staff is unprofessional ,rooms are dirty ,and they don’t a specify the hidden fees. Deposit $100 Resort fees $35 plus they change the price every time Only Valet parking $40 (their space is behind the hotel on the street no cover) They don’t offer self park. My family and I stayed for 4 July weekend . Pool area is as described in the pictures nice But not worth luxury price. Bathtub clogs . Second day when we came back from the beach, the room wasn’t clean. We were disappointed. We had to make our own beds . Not worth the price !

    Unfortunately when walking into the lobby we weren't impressed. The front desk and surrounding furniture were really rundown. The front desk had marks, chips, etc. This is a customer's first impression so you want to make it impactful. The elevators (though cool vibe with wallpaper) had a bad odor that wasn't appealing. The room itself was very nice and comfortable. The room was what we expected. The bar area was very nice too and the overall staff were excellent. Just a few updates would have taken this rating from a 3 to a 5.

    Overall, it was a great experience - I liked it so much, I've already booked a return trip while I was staying in the hotel. However, some of the staff seemed like they'd rather be anywhere else. I had a few questions upon checking in the person behind the desk was less then enthusiastic when speaking with me. Once I was in my room, I noticed the hotel room door didn't lock; they sent someone to come fix it but he told me it wasn't broken & wouldn't really take anything else for an answer, so my entire four night stay the door was half unlocked. Later that first day, I noticed the patio door didn't lock; the hotel sent someone to fix it, which they did with gracious speed. Day two my tv wasn't working, when I called to have someone look at it they didn't have anyone available, had to wait until the next day. Day 3, tv didn't work, they sent someone to fix it. Day 4, tv didn't work, they once again sent someone to fix it. Aside from the room issues, it was a nice stay. The pool/cabanas/wink wink restaurant was great. Kelly at the pool bar is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! She really made our time at the pool wonderful, same with Jersey. I was able to meet Brittney as well, the three of them deserve a raise, really great customer service. Would recommend & plan to stay again, just hope to have less issues in the room!

    The location is excellent. You can walk to Van Wezel Performing Arts Center and Marina Jack and downtown. Front desk staff was helpful. Had a King room and it was really small - narrow space between the bed and the TV. Shower was very tiny - almost impossible to take a shower without getting your hair wet. Room was supposed to be cleaned but, although we left it empty for 5 hours during the day, it was not cleaned - and we even saw the cleaning staff as we were leaving the room and said we were going out.

    Very convenient area, easy walking, service and food was great. Having a room with a balcony was an added benefit to sit out at night. Staff was super friendly and very helpful. Shout out to Elizabeth at breakfast and Christina at night at the bar. Great time and stay Furniture was not comfortable in room and hotel lobby. Too low to be able to get.out of chairs easily. Room was cool at night and having an extra blanket available would have been great.

    A bad check-in e experience (no clerk anywhere, no drink) started things on the wrong foot. Hidden “resort fees” of $28 per day were outrageous. Pool bar was out of wine glasses and most beer. Only one bar tender doing her best with many customers. The room was nice. The pool,area is very nice. The staff is insufficient to maintain an illusion of luxury.

    There were a lot of added costs at this property. Parking $35 per day, resort fee $28 per day, extra person fee for our child $15 per day. The pool area and bartenders were the shining star of this property. Housekeeping was terrible. Our room was cleaned 1 time in the 4 days we were at the hotel. After calling and asking for service twice in one day, and being promised they would come, it never happened. The next day, we finally got the room serviced, but they did not make the bed in the loft bed. The front desk did nothing to accomodate for the issues, and informed us that management weren't around to talk to.

    There was no Kleenex/tissue in the room. I requested it from cleaning staff and was told there was none. There is a sign in the bathroom asking guests to conserve towels. There is one hook in the bathroom. Two people shower, use bath towels, wash clothes and face towels. There is no place to hang them after use. Conserving means reusing these wet things for two days. Add towel bars if you expect us to reuse them. No one to assist with luggage when arriving or leaving.

    From the time we checked in to the time we checked-out, our stay was enhanced by the service of Brittney at the front desk and Will at the pool bar. Brittney is outgoing and personable - she kept us informed about our stay and was very accommodating. Will took great care of us at the pool and we are thankful for both of them for their care and going the extra mile.

    We came the Sarasota for the first time and stayed at this beautiful hotel. Everything about this place is amazing. They have pool, cold plunge which is it was so helpful in that hot&humid Florida weather. Room was so clean and organized. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this place!

    Rooms were large, clean and well kept. Air conditioning worked well. The pool had music playing all day but we couldn’t hear a thing from our room. All the staff were very pleasant and accommodating. The only negative about our stay was the breakfast. Not a very high standard. Eggs and bacon all came out overdone. Looks like they cut corners on the quality there. However, room service food was good - especially the steak sandwich. Over all, a very good stay and I would be happy to stay there again. Recommended.

    The size of the room was great. The shower was great. Bed linens were great. As soon as you enter the hotel it STINKS! It smells like a wet dog. That smell transfers to the elevator and the hallways. I bought a candle to use in my room. So smelly. Also I booked through hotels.com. I don’t know the reason for all the fees. Fees that are also taxed. My 3 night was over 700.00. Ridiculous

    Honestly speaking, for what we paid ($1,300 for one night stay and dinner at Wink Wink) we did not have the quality experience we expected. No valet available upon arrival. Had to load our own cart. Took forever to check in. Card creation device broken. Pool unavailable due to film festival party that nobody told us about in advance. No balcony for junior suite. No real closet space. I was told we'd have pool view but we had street view. Service at Wink Wink was incredibly slow despite the restaurant being about 1/2 full. Took 20 minutes to get our drinks. The elevators stunk. I would definitely not recommend for the price.

    family emergency. Very nice property with very friendly staff! We had trouble w our room door lock and maintenance worked on it immediately. Pool area nice and Wink Wink was a sweet restaurant w excellent waitstaff. Walkable to downtown. Great vibe!

    At 4:00 PM (check in time), I received a phone call stating they were overbooked and we can't stay there. I booked this hotel back in December. This was a planned birthday surprise for my daughter. Hamilton play was directly across the street. We were told to go to the Marriott Courtyard near the Sarasota/Bradenton airport. They are supposed to credit my charge and comp the other hotel, however, this totally ruined our plans!+

    The king bed was not comfortable at all. Too low to the floor, and too firm. No blanket was provided until I requested one the next day. I had to ask for more towels twice. Also, the hummus type appetizer at the pool bar was not good w the green tasteless hummus.

    This is a boutique hotel with great service! From our beautiful lady at the front desk (name escapes me) (fabulous eyelashes and style who usually works in the back office)..we had a bit of an issue with our Expedia reservation and she fixed it. The pool and bar area is great. Drinks and food are delish. Even the men at the valet…super quick with great local recommendations. We will be back!

    great location. Walking distance to lots of restaurants. The pool and bar area nice and all bartenders , waiters, waitresses were top notch. Our only minus was with issues with our TV. Had to call maintenance 4x for this. However, they were prompt in dealing with it and gave us some freebies for the annoyance. I would recommend.

    Great, charming hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room very nice. All around it is really nice. The only thing was they charged me more on my credit card than was on my bill and what had been quoted on Expedia. I called and the agent from Expedia said she spoked to the hotel and Britney told her it would be solved in 3-5 days. I’m not sure why this happened and why it takes so long to be solved. We went to another hotel in Ft. Myers the night before, booked through Expedia as well, and had no issues. Perhaps this is a flaw with The Modern. I’m yet to find out if it clears up. My advice, check the charges carefully. It’s a downer considering it’s a very good place.

    This was probably the worst experience I've had at a hotel in quite a while. I'm kinda shocked its a 4 star. I booked a room through Expedia for TD (prefered partner) and when I checked in, the room has a view of the HVAC system on the roof!!!. I asked the staff about a room change, and was told someone would call me. After almost a whole day, no one had called so I went back down. A very rude woman at the front desk told me that was the room and I would have to upgrade for a change! I told her that their website does not say it looks over the HVAC system, but she was not interested. Incredibly rude staff, I'd stay away from this one. The service levels are brutal for a 4 star.

    This hotel definitely needs some work on daily cleaning. Bathroom floor and shower walls were not clean. Dirty sock from previous guest under the bed. Extremely noisy vacuum in the hallway was obviously clogged and doing nothing but stirring up dust. Limited furniture (mini fridge just sitting there-not in cabinet) no room in bathroom to set anything. Etc.

    Overall great hotel. We had an unfortunate situation that they did not fix immediately or even try. Heater was broken in our room, it was 51 outside and just as cold inside. Being from Hawaii, my body can’t handle the cold very well. In order to get the room warmer, we had to turn the shower on hot for an hour. At least it worked. Other than that, the Staff and property is very nice.

    During the time of closing the gap between the west coast and the east coast we stayed here as our new home did not have any furniture. Everyone was so accommodating. Bryce at the poolside bar was fun and attentive as well as knowledgeable with drink selections. Gavin at the inside bar made me the best spicy margarita I have ever had. The pool area is just beautiful and it was so nice to have the options between the normal, super cold, and hot temps. The rooms were very nice as well, we stayed in 2 different rooms during our stay, everything was clean as well as nicely furnished. We will definitely be back to enjoy some the the best French Fries I have ever has and some drinks by the pools or if we need a little staycation.

    Very nice boutique hotel. Very accommodating and friendly. Great vibe-more of an adult style hotel. Lots of people here to have a good time. Great pool bar as well as inside bar/restaurant. Food options range from Korean style to a burger. Good coffee. Smells nice -beds are comfortable -rooms are clean and spacious

    Did not like the smell in the lobby, halls, and rooms- musty and perfume cleaner smell. I know it's a retro hotel (50's, 60's) but don't understand the 70's shag decor in the lobby. It was very unattractive as a first impression.

    The best thing of the hotel is their service. Rafael the manager was splendid. He took care of us and made sure we had an amazing stay. Everyone that we interacted with from the maintenance to the manager was awesome. The hotel is beautiful and the room was great. We didn’t get the room I had initially booked, but it doesn’t matter because the hotel staff made worth our stay. Definitely will be coming back. Awesome valet service too!

    The hotel is in a great area and has a well kept look however the room was disappointing for two reasons. There were literally hundreds of small bugs roaming everywhere from the bathroom to the top of the night stands to the bed! Although small and probably harmless it was extremely unsettling to constantly be killing and wiping them away to feel somewhat comfortable. Secondly while my wife checked the bed for the little bugs she lifted the bed sheet and there were too many remnants of whatever on the mattress which pretty much would have probably never been seen if it weren’t for feeling uncomfortable. We are not the type to cause a seen and new we were not spending much time in the room for one night stay so we didn’t say anything. It’s really a nice hotel with nice amenities so maybe it’s just a time of year for these things here? Unfortunately we would not return for this reason.

    Stylish, modern, convenient - fabulous pool - what one expects from a Marriott Tribute hotel. This property's management, however, should pay a little more attention to the details. We couldn't help note that public spaces were not well cleaned (though rooms were perfectly cleaned), and staff was a little aloof - seemed to be most interested in the parties by the pool. The bathroom design was also strangley inept (for a Marriott) - lighting is dreadful and only one hook for towels. These are nitpicks. I would come back to stay again, but am inclined to check out a different property next time.

    The front staff was super accommodating! They gave us beach chairs for our beach days, were super helpful with recommendations and were very sweet!! Especially Brittany! She was great! We would certainly stay again if we come back to Sarasota!!!
