Reviews
The hotel is praised for its excellent location near the Santa Monica Pier and beach, as well as its clean and comfortable rooms. However, guests frequently complain about the lack of amenities, such as a microwave and coffee machine in the room, and limited parking. Additionally, some guests have had negative experiences with the staff and found the hotel to be overpriced for the quality of service and amenities provided.

Opinion everything was clean and the cleaning lady was very nice and good at her work. I felt welcome by cleaning lady and the rest of the employees.

Clean and kind service

A nice little hotel close to everything. The people who work here are outstanding. The hotel was clean. I took one star off because our little refrigerator rocked back and forth and it felt like it would fall forward. But the bed was comfortable, the shower pressure was nice and the towels were clean. The hardest part was the parking. The cars are very close to each other. The woman who works the registration desk actually walks out when someone comes in or leaves to help supervise and make sure the cars are protected. She was very nice.
- 3/5
The room was clean and the location is excellent. The advertised food nearby is independent of the motel and varies widely. The motel office hours are very limited and was unstaffed even during times it was supposed to be open. More than once guests were searching for staff to check in, out, or get assistance.
- 4/5
Great location in santa monica, but not much else. Staff was nice.
- 3/5
It was also very loud and noisy. Guests in other rooms were slamming doors, and there were drunk people making noise around 3:00 AM. This was not the type of place I expected based on the listing, and it made for an uncomfortable stay.
- 3/5
To small, parking very tight

The room was good, the bathroom needs renovations. The staff was not helpful.

Very cute!! Super close to the pier and restaurants.

Everything was up to standard

Room was clean but very tight if you have a family of 5.

Wonderful location. Easy check-in, very friendly front desk staff. Our room was spotless! Very nice assortment of all the necessary toiletries. Would definitely stay here again.

I booked for two bedrooms, but the door don’t close and same time. There is no microwave. I didn’t like it for this price not worth it at all

Room was clean and comfortable
- 5/5
Wonderful location! So close to the pier and we loved the cocktails and food at Chez Jay’s next door! Our room was spacious and clean. I will stay here and again!
- 5/5
Helpful and nice staff
- 4/5
Had tv and ac. Can’t complain on room comfort for a couple of 75 degree days.
- 5/5
Hotel with a great location, practically inside the Santa Monica Pier. Clean and very cozy. I will definitely recommend it and will stay there on my next vacation!
- 5/5
The place was cute. The bathroom tile was very pretty. We wanted to be in walking distance to Chez Jays and the pier so it was perfect.
- 5/5
Very clean rooms, nice staff, nice and cozy. 5 min. Walk to the beach.
- 5/5
Everything was excellent very happy.
- 4/5
Good space for big family on quick trip on a budget. Great location! Fun that the location is used on a tv show and we love the Chez Jay restaurant and bar next door. Funky vintage original style motel across from the beach and pier. Super convenient.
- 4/5
This is a nice boutique hotel close to the beach. The room was clean. However the bedroom was isolated from the air conditioning and got hot. You can hear traffic from the nearby street very clearly in the room.
- 5/5
The property managers were amazing. They made me feel at home, and are very welcoming. They even let us leave our bags in office the day we were leaving, because we had a late flight. I would definitely stay here again. The room was cozy and inviting. It was very quiet, and about a 10 min walk to the beach. I am handicapped, and I was able to walk to everything.
- 1/5
Noticed a cockroach bedside my bed on checkout day during clean up. The man at the front desk acted as if it wasn’t a big deal. There are about 10 max parking spots available and they are extremely tight.
- 4/5
We enjoyed our stay at the Ocean Lodge hotel. It is surprisingly charming for an updated motel building. The location was great and the room was clean and nicely decorated. The one issue we had was the noise level -- I'm guessing because it's an older building, the walls and floors are thin, and we could hear people talking and walking around past midnight. An easy solution would be to provide foam ear plugs in the guest rooms. Other than this, we liked the hotel and would stay again.
- 4/5
Only a couple of parking spots. Meter park on the street.
- 5/5
It was a great location and it was perfect for the timing that we were able to get the room I've walked by it many times my whole life but once I was inside I realize why it was always packed I'm curious of what's in sweet 1900
- 3/5
Clean, great location, friendly staff
- 5/5
Small motel, small rooms but LOCATION near beach and restaurants etc makes the place great for the price. Room was super clean and well stocked, bed comfy, urban area be prepared for common noises. It wasnt too loud. Staff super friendly, water and coffee free. Parking is tight. Pay $38 for space at motel, wait for $17 space next door, pay the meters for 3hrs ata time.
- 5/5
The man that i devoted my life to spent the most romantic beautiful weekend together, and your hotel was the perfect setting. I professed my undying love to him💖 Thank you from our hearts!
- 1/5
Reported this to the front office and the person argued with me and was very rude. Refunded some money for the broken shower. No apology, empathy, or compassion. So sad BC we’ve stayed here a couple times and like the property. Too bad the staff is so rude!
- 5/5
Walkable to everything in Santa Monica and very close to the beach. Overall quiet despite being on busy road. Public overnight parking is difficult to find super close unless you get there very early. The spots onsite are tight. I would definitely stay again.
- 4/5
Parking is very tight. Small cars only. Very limited.
- 4/5
Did not like the parking and noise due to traffic. Constant honking on the horns. Have to expect since it is so close to beach.
- 4/5
Great hotel loved the king size bed very comfortable. Bathroom was a good size too and had a mini refrigerator.
- 4/5
Few minutes walk to the beach.
- 5/5
Close proximity to beach and pier with many places to eat and shop within walking distance. Hotel staff were all very helpful and friendly during our stay. There is parking on site but if you have a full size SUV or truck please be aware that parking spaces are small with not a lot of space to maneuver. We will stay again in the future. Thank you!

Location
- 3/5
The hotel is in a good location, walking distance to beach, food and shopping. It is a bit pricy for the property condition though. Also, parking is hard.
- 5/5
Great spot right by the pier!
- 2/5
Beds were comfortable. I wouldn’t recommend for families with children. The biggest issue was the large amount of mentally unstable unhoused people that hang out around the property. We saw over 6 incidents with people either getting into fights with pedestrians, being aggressive, pushing over people’s bikes, and the biggest was a woman with her pants down to her knees crawling on the ground while cussing at people. I was with my 3 kids and they were scared. The location to the Santa Monica Pier is great and there is a slight ocean view, but I would only recommend this hotel for adults. We had to check out a day early because it was too unsettling for my kids.
- 5/5
Cute room, friendly staff, close to the beech, clean.
- 5/5
I stayed here as part of a solo trip I was on, so staying safe was a big concern of mine and this hotel had me feeling very secure while on my own! The staff was also amazing and was super helpful whenever I needed assistance with something! If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely be staying here again!
- 4/5
Location was great! It’s really close to the beach & walkable to restaurants, shopping, & the pier. It is hard to park there, & expensive to park there. It’s also quite noisy due to traffic on the road, but it was clean & perfect for our needs.
- 5/5
Super close to everything in Santa Monica and Venice Beach. Super clean and great staff. Would recommend.
- 5/5
Great. Simple. As advertised.
- 2/5
Yes there is parking on site but you have to pay extra and the spaces are so small you can't get out of the car.
- 5/5
They can improve their service by having at least two vending machines, drinks and snacks.
- 5/5
The perfect place for our stay. Warm, comfy, had everything we needed, staff very accommodating and great location! Thank you, it was just what we needed!
- 2/5
Room had a mildew smell, could barely stand it.
- 2/5
Pro: Property is just a block from the Santa Monica Pier. Con: Area is rife with homeless requiring coded gates to enter the property. Walls are thin allowing adjacent room noise and traffic noise.
- 5/5
Service was good
- 5/5
The room was clean and super well kept, outside was a little less desirable but I was truly comfortable for my stay. Also this is a great location.
- 3/5
I’ve stayed at the property multiple times due to the price, location and parking. The parking/lot is challenging and not inexpensive, but still better than other options. The front desk is not accessible until 9am which can be problematic. I wish they would install a hook in the bathroom for a robe or towel. There drawer space is extremely limited.
- 4/5
nice place to stay for the first time visitor in Santa Monica area.
- 5/5
Checked in after hours, personalized instructions and overall stay made me feel welcome, I will stay here again when I have a chance, Thank you
- 5/5
Friendly staff, very clean room, great location
- 3/5
Location is beachside, motel is truly just that, it’s pretty overpriced but the staff is very competent and they do a good job keeping it tidy. The fact it’s so expensive a night and an additional $33 in parking! We could have stayed somewhere upgraded for that rate!
- 3/5
It’s an older property. When we got there, the office was locked up. I tried to call the front desk probably a good six times and ring the bell at least eight until someone finally came to let me in so I could check in. It wasn’t even late at night it was about 6:00 PM. After a long drive from Vegas, I wasn’t impressed having to sit and wait for someone to come to the front desk. The rooms are definitely “tired” but it was clean. Parking is very limited. The location to the pier however it is nice and close.
- 5/5
Would stay there again. Great location. Chez Jay Courtyard is great dining place next door.
- 4/5
Great location a couple blocks from the Santa Monica pier, downtown Santa Monica and walkable to Venice Beach. Cute “old school” motel experience, with clean and updated room. Two women traveling and felt safe although you are in a busy tourist area so always be aware of you surroundings. Definitely would stay again.
- 5/5
Great customer service from all staff. Clean room. Quick beach access to the beach
- 5/5
This was very nicely decorated and clean. Very comfortable stay. I would love to stay here again. It is very close to what you need. Thank you.
- 4/5
The room was comfortable, especially the bed—I slept great every night. Parking was convenient and reasonably priced (which is a rarity in this area). And the best part? I spent time on the beach every single day during my stay. Whether it was a morning walk or catching the sunset, having the ocean so close made my trip even more special. If you're visiting Santa Monica and want easy access to the beach, great dining, and a comfortable place to stay, I highly recommend this hotel. I'll definitely be back!
- 2/5
It’s so expensive compared to the service
- 5/5
The lady at the check-in was excellent! Room very clean and up to date... Great Spot
- 5/5
Staff was kind and the room was clean and cozy, would book again.
- 5/5
Great place to stay.
- 5/5
Alex was amazing when we had to evacuate for the Palisades fire.
- 4/5
This property was located near the beach, which was perfect! Plenty of scooters nearby so you don’t have to worry about driving to nearby restaurants, etc or being stuck in traffic. The parking stalls are a bit tight, but other than that I would stay here again.
- 5/5
Very nice and affordable rooms. I will completely recommend it.
- 5/5
Great room. Very clean. Walking distance to poer and restaurants
- 5/5
It was clean and location was convenient to tourist attractions. Parking was vert limited and not made for pickups or larger suvs
- 3/5
Very small property, cramped parking. Good value for money, if you are looking for no frills and close the the pier, this is the place for you.
- 3/5
High crime area. Would have paid $100 more next time to stay in a proper hotel with parking and a lobby.
- 4/5
Excellent
- 4/5
We were happy with the accommodations. Parking was not the greatest experience. The parking lot is very small, and larger vehicles cannot park there.
- 5/5
Rooms are small and there is not any room services. parking is paid and is a bit tricky for new drivers but not as bad as it seems. Also its a touristy area but you can't blame the hotel for that.
- 5/5
Xx
- 4/5
The Backyard next door was great with fast friendly service Bruno’s had great Italian across the street.
- 5/5
Really close to the pier!
- 5/5
Highly recommend
- 5/5
Across the pier
- 5/5
Felt a little unsafe. Room was big and clean
- 5/5
Good
- 4/5
The property was great and well maintained. It was close to the pier and was only a 15 minute drive to the Getty Villas museum .
- 5/5
It was a lot of fun (and very convenient to the Santa Monica Pier/Beach and downtown Santa Monica) to stay at the Ocean Lodge. The check in was quick, friendly and easy. The housekeeping staff did a fantastic job of cleaning the room and making the bed every day. I felt very safe with the lighting and card key system. The fact the this property is where the fictional attorney played by Billy Bob Thornton in “Goliath” lives just added to the fun. Having the iconic Chez Jay bar next door was also a hoot. There are some street people in the area because of the large park behind the property, but I never had an issue when I walked through the park to get an Uber in front of the Santa Monica City Hall (on the other side of the park). I highly recommend Ocean Lodge for a stay in Santa Monica. Good value!
- 5/5
Very friendly staff, easy to get to. I loved the stay especially for the price!! I will return!
- 5/5
It was a good experience
- 4/5
Parking on site was terrible. Wouldn’t even consider that they have parking as an option given limited spaces and how small/tight areas were.
- 1/5
With the exchange rate and some mysterious add-on fees from the motel the cost of this old outdated and crammed beach motel cost us $780 PER NIGHT!l
- 5/5
Great place to stay
- 5/5
Parking was terrible, otherwise it was a great stay
- 5/5
You have to pay for parking, but other than that, everything was great
- 3/5
Small and overpriced and noisy outside
- 4/5
Very convenient to the pier!
- 5/5
It was cute but basic and very nice and clean. The only slight discomfort was the sheets felt a little scratchy but i honestly think it was because they were either very new or starched. The location was great staff was very nice. I would definitely stay there again.
- 5/5
Clean, bright and so close to everything.
- 2/5
This is a very old “Motel 6” type of place with tight squeezes barely any parking. The rooms are renovated just enough to say they are but the heat pump/ac wasn’t working well, they did not have ANY accommodation for ADA as we asked for a shower chair and they had none, the lights didn’t all work, sink backed up with just water and the closet was smelly. Beds and pillows were comfortable. Not worth the price we paid. I guess location dictated a premium 5 star price but we got cheap run-down motel 6 amenities.
- 5/5
。
- 3/5
Rooms are small. No kitchen, no microwave, not even coffee machine. At least there was one in the office, which was closed half of the time. Parking is limited and very tight. Park in the back of the building is full of homeless people and junkies, just as the other areas of the city. Not safe area. Someone was knocking on all doors on first floor rooms at 3 am. Anyway.. considering its the cheapest hotel in the area and its almost on the beach its probably worth it to stay there. Property is clean, rooms nice and clean and has daily service.
- 5/5
The staff was very kind to keep my luggage till evening.
- 4/5
un hotel para estar muy cerca de todo lo atractivo en santa monica, es un buen hotel si solo vas a pasar la noche
- 4/5
WHAT I LIKE IS THAT ITS CLOSE TO THE PIER/
- 5/5
Would stay again!
- 5/5
Great location for the Santa Monica Pier and shopping area, very helpful and friendly staff, would recommend
- 5/5
Super clean and a perfect place for my kids and I to bunk up for the night. I booked last minute and we checked in after the office closed - the staff left very easy to follow instructions for me on where to get my room key as well as detailed info on everything else regarding parking and how to get a hold of someone, if necessary. The room was very clean and had everything we needed.
- 3/5
They don’t tell u how many can stay in the room after a long hour drive ther should be at least 2 ppl per bed and it’s fkn stupid
- 4/5
Close to the pier , 3 blocks mx
- 4/5
The outside looks a little rough but the inside of the rooms are beautiful. It is noisy as it’s on a main road. Don’t plan on parking here if you have a truck or large SUV. There are spots for small cars/SUV’s only.
- 5/5
Old hotel but nicely redone - very comfortable and convenient to the pier and beach. Great front desk staff - very pleasant snd unusually helpful for these times. Appreciated their help so much, esp with parking our minivan, recommendations to eat, and help with a loud snd unruly family above us at 10 pm. Would stay there again.
- 5/5
Very friendly and helpful staff . Great value , highly Recommended.
- 5/5
Location is key for this hotel. It is a very easy walk to Santa Monica Pier! Great Mexican and Italian restaurant across the street. Awesome park right next door. Its a classic older hotel and we loved it.
- 4/5
Not luxury, but good value for money, measured against market.
