Reviews
The hotel has a convenient location with easy access to shopping, dining, and the beach, but guests have reported issues with cleanliness, noise, and valet parking. Some guests have also expressed dissatisfaction with the staff and services provided.

The rooms were clean. Staff were always asking about if we needed anything else or what else can we do for you etc.. air conditioning was soo good we were even cold lol.
- 5/5
Love this place! Close to everything! Metro trains are right across the street. You can ride the bus and light rail everywhere. The beach and the Pier are only 5 blocks. The 3rd Street Promenade is right there. If I had one complaint, it's they don't stock chocolate Hagen Daz ice cream.

It was a great experience for me and my family.

I am a Marriott member. I have been a member for many years. I have never had a problem at the Marriott. It’s where I always stay at, it’s well taken care of, the staff are great. I read it number one however, I checked in at the Marriott Courtyard in Santa Monica. I prepaid because I know it’s Marriott. I do that sometimes. . I was supposed to get a room with a kitchenette, there was no kitchenette, I told the front desk the response was. I thought that was one in here. Further statement by the front desk I can refund you money as you go someplace else. The other option was to take another room which was considered a downgrade by the front desk person who was helping me and it was, but I took it still no kitchenette. I was shocked at the behavior and the service at this Marriott. The person was helping me was acting as if he didn’t know about the rooms at the Marriott his shock over being surprised there was no kitchenette in my room was discouraging considered he worked there. In addition, the people who help you at the desk were always nicely dressed always this guy had on a pair of jeans and a college shirt. I don’t know this is not the Marriott I know, especially the courtyard. Don’t recommend Santa Monica Marriott Courtyard

Very clean space and very kind and helpful staff. Room was very comfortable and hotel was a convenient distance from downtown
- 1/5
Only valet parking was available, and the hotel charged $65 plus 18% tax ($11.70) for one night. When I booked the hotel, there was no clear information about this parking policy. There is also a Metro station nearby, so I could hear train signals and noise from my room. The most disappointing part was the checkout experience. The receptionist charged me $153.40 for parking. When I asked why the amount was so high, she simply said, “Oh, it’s a tax,” without even checking the receipt first. It took quite a while for her to figure out the mistake, and she did not apologize while I was waiting. Eventually, she realized that I had been charged for two nights instead of one. She refunded only $76 instead of $76.70. Although $0.70 is not a significant amount, I was disappointed by the inaccuracy and the unprofessional attitude.

hotel was located in a very good location. We could walk to a lot of restaurants and attractions. Food stores close by withing walking range. Did not use parking because we did not rent a car. There was nothing we did not like. Staff was most helpful. We felt secure in and around the hotel.

Great location, clean room.

I like everything about this place - so convenient I am good

Be very careful when booking the Courtyard Santa Monica through Expedia. The Hotel will double charge you at their more expensive standard walk in room rate even though I showed them my receipt through Expedia.

The man on duty at night-about 8:00PM was awful. He had an attitude. I want to buy a water and he asked how do I want to pay for it. I asked how much it was since prices were not listed. He said it wastes his time to tell me the price and he had been working long hours. What a shame!!! I will never stay at this hotel again.
- 5/5
Loved the convenience of the cafe inside. The outside area can get a little rough and feel unsafe at night. We felt safe inside due to security measures such as a key to get in the front door and to use the elevator.
- 5/5
Everything was so clean and felt very homey

- 3/5
Staff were great. Room was great. Pool and lounge area were not at all what we expected based off the photos. Loungers were very worn, ripped and stained. The entire area was not inviting at all. It was super disappointing. I don’t get into a swimsuit the entire week.
- 2/5
Clean But over priced, ridiculous parking fee, will not return to this location.
- 5/5
Very good everything. Thank you
- 4.5/5
We really enjoyed our stay, it was spotless clean, very comfortable bed, a nice and cozy room. Would definitely come back.
- 4.5/5
Comfortable room, good snack shop. Towels were thin and not absorbent. Seemed like towels in a motel than a hotel

The housekeeping staff has to improve their services
- 3.5/5
I felt the mattresses needed to be turned. The rooms seemed uncared for and the carpeting was old in the hallways.
- 4/5
They only have valet parking which is an extra cost per night. Room and hotel was clean and staff very friendly. Close walking distance to pier and food places.
- 5/5
Very convenient and great staff! I’d definitely come back again.
- 5/5
Staff were wonderful. Check in was easy and painless. Room was huge and clean. Very convenient and walking distance to the pier and beach.

Worst hotel stay ever! Felt unsafe for a family stay, unsavory characters loitering around the hotel, room was disgusting and filthy. Urine on the toilets, filthy carpets, beds, and upholstered furniture, so left without staying out of concern for my well being and safety. Reported concerns to Expedia and Marriott with no response or refund.
- 5/5
In a downtown that was dirty this bldg and location was designed very well. Few cool options of pool, fitness, views, next to bikes and station
- 5/5
Conveniently located close to Santa Monica Pier. The outdoor pool and hot tub were nice to have for the kids. The house keeping staff was very pleasant and always willing to help. My family enjoyed our stay.
- 5/5
Everything was great at the stay. Easy check in with Valet. We have a large truck and they were extremely accommodating. Check in with front desk was simple and quick. Room are clean and very spacious.
- 5/5
Clean room, comfortable beds, the valet staff were fast & friendly, the front seat staff were friendly

Amenities are really could be better. The soundproof is non-existent. And outside is a bit sketchy
- 4/5
Everything was perfect, except the parking. Hard to find decent parking.

The staff was incredible really generous with their time and helpful. I loved the bathroom in my room, gorgeous lots of room to move around my room was clean. I can’t say enough about the staff, though they really went above and beyond.

Here are some of my reviews, and they are solely for what could be improved: 1) Parking Valet parking was $60 a day, which I found uneconomical (though I hadn’t compared to other parking options in the area, so I am not certain if it's reasonably priced or not). 2) Noise from the room above The floor/ceiling is (or I assume) very thin that we could hear every step of the person upstairs, which was not desirable (although it might depend on who and how people walk). 3) Housekeeping On the 1st night, the body soap bottle was almost empty while shampoo and conditioner were full - we requested the full bottle the following night, and they brought it to us right away. There were no hand towels (we simply assumed that they didn't provide them). Then we later noticed that they forgot to leave hand towels on the 1st night, as we were provided after room making on the 3rd night. The housekeeper came and did all except that the used glasses were left on the table as well as the empty body soap bottle in the bathroom(?); the coffee maker (Keurig) was possibly broken, so the coffee was lukewarm...
- 3/5
I wish the front desk had asked me for my Marriott Bonvoy member number to add the points. Overall it was a nice stay, just needs some improvements.
- 5/5
Spotless room, friendly staff! Excellent hotel for Santa Monica.
- 3/5
Very noisy upstairs
- 5/5
The rooms werecnice and clean. The staff was very helpful and kind.
- 3/5
No water no food limited service
- 5/5
Did not take breakfast
- 5/5
Great staff!!! And clean rooms
- 5/5
Great hotel, large rooms and many amenities and walking distance to the most iconic landmarks in Santa Monica
- 5/5
Very clean and spacious rooms. Nice large lobby downstairs with lots of comfortable seating. I am an early riser and my family likes to sleep in. I enjoyed the lobby in the mornings, grabbed a coffee at Waterman’s and sat there watching tv or reading. Nice pool and hot tub on the second floor. The location was excellent. The pier, beach, 3rd street promenade, Trader Joe’s, Target, restaurants, shopping, all within a few minutes walk. Easy pickup by Waymo and uber right outside the hotel. The little coffee shop downstairs had limited offerings but still it was a very convenient way to get a coffee and a quick bite especially since we were there over Christmas and most other places were closed. Would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Everything was perfect. Some notable highlights: Very attentive and friendly staff who go above and beyond, modern and clean rooms and amenities, gym in very good shape, excellent location close to the Pier and right by a metro station. Breakfast was not included but there is a cafe by the lobby and the prices were reasonable.

You graciously moved us to a larger, quieter room after we were disrupted by noisy guests the first night. Thanks.

Breakfast staff not friendly

It was a nice place but just outside is dirty asf homeless begging just kinda greasy
- 2/5
Location is OK, and it’s clean, but I had a lot of issues with my stay. To begin, there were no towels in the room when I arrived, then the wifi was not working, for the majority of my stay (the portal to sign in for bonvoy wasn’t loading), and the phone reception in the room was insufficient for internet. On day two I awoke to a terrible smell from the bathroom where the sink was backing up, inexplicably. Finally, I was checked out of my hotel room early, inadvertently I assume, but that created unnecessary confusion and needed attention to be resolved. I was given Bonvoy points as a remedy, but honestly that doesn’t go very far and this property is hard to recommend. Pool and hot tub are nice and a rarity at this price point in Santa Monica, unfortunately not much else that is remarkable. This stay will be memorable for the wrong reasons unfortunately :/
- 5/5
Great property, great location (I got my hour walk on the beach in).

- 5/5
Spacious clean rooms.
- 5/5
Our stay was amazing, very modern and clean. Professional and courteous staff. Has a lot of restaurants in walking in distance.
- 5/5
Room is clean. Staffs are very friendly, especially Valerie. She went extra miles to search and update my profile which I forgot to include when booking.
- 5/5
Clean Room, Spotless, Great Staff, Comfortable, can't complaint at all
- 5/5
Clean, staff friendly , amenities excellent. Overall excellent stay.
- 2/5
No-one at the front desk to check me in,, surprise mandatory valet parking
- 5/5
Room was clean, staff was very helpful with letting us know what was around us and things to do. No balcony but AC and heater worked great.
- 4/5
Hall carpet was noticeably dirty with some stains. Excellent bathroom. Courteous front desk and maid staff.
- 4/5
The staff for sure. Are beautiful and while taking care of.
- 4/5
Staff was very nice and the room was clean. Unfortunately, none of the chargers worked by the bed area. And the beds were very squeaky.
- 4/5
Wi-Fi is super weak. Never had more than one bar. Order food there were no regular chips in the little restaurant or in the store. If these things would not have occurred, I would’ve been able to give five stars.
- 4/5
Friendly staff.
- 3/5
Room was clean, neighborhood was a little rough. Our last night stay we lost power and had only one person on duty. He was overwhelmed with questions of when we would have power back.
- 1/5
It was not a good experience at due to the fact that they down graded my room. And I have not received a reimbursement for it… I was planning to have a wonderful time but a coffee and a sandwich and maybe a percentage reimbursement is an insult to me… but that is all they offered. You would think they could do better…
- 3/5
I didn't get the balcony?What happend.
- 4/5
I needed to add a night to my stay and this hotel was sold out, so I stood at a local Gateway hotel, which was clean and comparable. That room was at a much lower rate with free *parking*, better water, pressure and a better working refrigerator.
- 5/5
The room was really clean and the staff was great.
- 5/5
My biggest issue was the $72 charges for parking. I can see a competitive charge. Neighboring properties charge $10.
- 4/5
The room was good but the air conditioning was noisy and the shower needed to run more than 7-8 min before it reached the right warmth. The cleaning staff was excellent but the walls must be thin because could hear the neighbors and the planes.
- 4/5
Clean rooms and staff excellent. Pool very cold
- 4/5
Room was clean and quiet.
- 5/5
Wonderful!
- 4/5
Excellent property.
- 3/5
Do something about the homeless lingering right outside of the property.
- 5/5
Very close to the pier
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly and the rooms were very clean, however i wish the pool was heated, it was only abour70 outside and the pool was a little too chilly to enjoy. beside that everything was cool!
- 3/5
Front desk gentlemen was terrible. He didn’t greet me for over 7 minutes. He wasn’t on the phone and no one was in line. It was just me standing there until I asked him if he was available to check me in. It was so disappointing and uncharacteristic for Marriott. It will definitely give me pause prior to ever booking one of their properties again.
- 3/5
The room was clean. The area is so dirty and unsafe. Santa Monica has changed so much. So many businesses and restaurants closed. It remained of San Francisco union Square and not in a good way. I didn’t care for the mandatory valet parking which amounts to $70.00 per day. Wow. On the positive the staff was very nice and attentive. The hotel is so close to the Santa Monica pier and the beach.
- 5/5
Room was clean and I had a beautiful balcony would return very spacious
- 5/5
The employees are amazing!!!
- 5/5
Very clean and convenient
- 3/5
There are however, a LOT of homeless people taking and under the influence of drugs directly outside and around the hotel, which feels very uncomfortable and unsafe to be around.
- 5/5
Overall, staff was very helpful and pleasant. Front desk staff was great - especially Jordan. Room was clean upon check in. Cleaning staff was very pleasant but we asked for clean towels and they never came. A nice hotel overall. Facilities were great.
- 4/5
Stayed w/friends for the USC vs MSU football game. It was a convenient location, close to great restaurants and the metro to easily get to and from LA Memorial Stadium. The buddy system is a must when walking around outside due to the large number of homeless people.
- 5/5
Great location for accessing the metro + the pier.
- 5/5
I liked the location of the property. The valet parking was amazing and Duncan was very friendly & helpful. The front desk staff was very nice & attentive to our needs. The lobby was very clean and I enjoyed the choices for food. The room was very spacious and clean. Liked the vicinity to Target and Trader Joe’s and the freeway. Overall, great stay and I would return.
- 3/5
Prior to arrival, I was not aware valet parking was pretty much mandatory, but that's on me. I should have done better research. The room was clean, with 1 king bed, an entertainment/desk/chair area, and a bright orange settee with metal table. The bathroom had a large shower. However, the lack of a shower seat and a door that was hard to push open/closed made it impossible for me to use. With a view directly on the spa area, the curtains remained closed at all times, making us feel closed in. The bed was so uncomfortable: under the thin pillow top was an overly firm mattress that caused pain on all pressure points. The fitted bottom sheet refused to stay in place, and the pillows were not supportive. The bed frame squeaked with the slightest movement. When the nearby fitness center was in use, the noise was loud within our room. Waterman's Café had seating for only 8 people at a time, limited hours, and limited staff, who were friendly but not always efficient. Healthy choices were greatly appreciated. Pets are merely tolerated at this hotel, with no facilities for dogs except a square of mulch in the sidewalk outside the building. Overall, the hotel was conveniently located, clean, and nicely decorated. The staff was friendly. Unfortunately, I do not plan to return for a future visit.
- 4/5
Staff was very friendly and hospitable. Convenient location with lots to do in the perimeter of the hotel within walking distance. Room was very clean & king bed was comfy.
- 4/5
No service staff in the late night. Our bathroom broken and no one was available till next morning…
- 3/5
The person up above me was stomping around all night and morning, and I could barely sleep.
- 3/5
Cons : the rooms are quite dated and no courtesy drinking water for guests
- 5/5
Thank you to all the staff
- 5/5
Great property
- 5/5
Good
- 4/5
The hotel is nice. It’s not too far from the beach or Santa Monica pier- probably about 10-15 walk. There is lots of shopping right by. There is a Target right next door & a Trader Joe’s across the street.
- 5/5
The surrounding areas was very dirty, stinky and unsafe. No microwaves in the room

Love love love this hotel! I only want to stay at Courtyard by Marriots from now on. So spacious. Great customer service. Great value.
- 5/5
The only thing I didn’t like was that the only parking available is valet.
- 5/5
Friendly staff
- 5/5
Very convenient, clean and comfortable
- 5/5
Good property, close to everything in Santa Monica
- 5/5
Location is convenient for shopping, dining, and spending time on beach.
- 3/5
The manager downgraded our room from a King to a double queen because we booked through an outside site. Said the reservation just came across too late
- 5/5
Convenient
- 5/5
Cleanest place ever! We always use cleaning wipes to clean the room and this time NO DIRT came up! Super clean and friendly staff too! Worth the money spent.
- 4/5
The staff was helpful and accommodating. Loved the proximity of hotel to the pier. However, the outside area is dirty and many homeless hanging around in the area.
- 5/5
The Courtyard by Marriot is very close to Santa Monica pier and 3rd Street promenade.
- 4/5
Paid to receive breakfast, wasn't what was expected
- 2/5
The bed was comfy. Not many food options unless you leave the property. No wifi service for at least the first day. Couldnt even order food if I wanted to because I had zero service. No parking unless you pay the valet 60 bucks to park. Will never stay at this location again.
- 5/5
Around the property it smelled and it was loud homeless right outside sleeping
- 3/5
Sadly there is a lot of homeless people around the hotel.
- 4/5
We were surprised by the $70 parking fee (shouldn’t be have been warned?) but the parking attendants were so nice.
- 2/5
Dont bother with the breakfast, microwave eggs and bacon not worth $13. Parking is $70 additional with nowhere near to park otherwise. Staff was rude. Homeless camp outside our bedroom window. YAY
- 5/5
Best
- 4/5
Overall the hotel is fine. Looks clean, neat and cozy. What I did not like, it is the old furniture in my room, looks like taken from grandpa and grandma house.
- 4/5
The on-site parking valet service at the Courtyard in Santa Monica was terrific! The room was comfortable (great beds & pillows) and the bathroom was spotless. Very loud “thumping” noises from above us throughout our stay at all sorts of weird times. And the cafe was closed for breakfast on the first morning despite the prepaid charge.
- 3/5
Nice hotel. I did not like the $70 overnight parking. That should be reflected on ratings. Not their fault about homeless near hotel but there was on fellow sleeping in the hallway one morning.
- 5/5
The hotel was clean, updated, and the staff provided excellent service!
- 5/5
I loved the easy access to the Santa Monica Pier. Do I g was in walking distract and transportation like the Metro, Big Blue Bus, scooters, bikes were easy to maneuver.
- 5/5
We had a great stay other than the pool was really cold.
- 3/5
Good clean property. Only issue is one side is facing the metro and there is a lot of noise from that station. Request a room not facing Colorado Ave/Metro to sleep better.
- 4/5
Got in pretty late. Valet was only option. $60 overnight charge seemed a bit steep. No one at valet at check in. Other than that, place was fine. No real dining options other than the “cafe” downstairs that was just a knock off starbucks
- 5/5
Great location just a couple of blocks from the pier and promenade. The hotel was really nice, clean, and modern with a unique colorful aesthetic. The room we stayed in was incredibly spacious and comfortable. The pool was a bit small, could easily get crowded. We would stay here again.
- 3/5
Missimg stuff Electricity went out this morning Housekeeping showed uo on our first morning at 755 am! And we were sleeping
- 2/5
Started off with hard to find parking. Then Valet was $70 to park when I spent $405 for a night for a small hotel where the fold out bed was broken with no blankets. Once requested the sheets were dirty. The water pressure was awful in my room to the point we couldn't even take showers. Then I text Valet for my car and it states there to busy so they can't take the text function. However there wasn't anyone down in Valet waiting nor was there 20 minutes prior. As I was down there for breakfast. Overall not a good experience.
- 3/5
Decent hotel, but for the price I paid I expected a little more. Bed was lumpy and uneven, pool and spa area was average, my rooms window was directly facing another rooms window so I had to keep the curtains closed or risk someone watching us. Parking is essentially valet only.
- 4/5
Good stay, no problems
- 3/5
Standard as far as hotel goes. Pro - location close to all. Con - water pressure is dismal. Ask for a room not facing the train. You can hear it at night. Coffee shop only open mornings and evenings. You out if you need afternoon snack. Wall and ceilings ate thin. You can hear your neighbors easily even if they aren’t making much noise.
- 5/5
Great price and room service and cleaning
- 4/5
Very close to the Santa Monica pier. Very fun!
- 5/5
Was a great stay! Everything about the hotel was great, a stones throw from multiple dining options as well as the beach!
- 4/5
Hot water in shower was variable.
- 5/5
Poole was great, lots of dining options around the area.
- 1/5
First night and second day ruined by excessive noise. Asked to move rooms only to be sent to the 2nd floor on the main street which was extremely noisy. Poor customer service by Noel and would never recommend this hotel or stay again
- 4/5
Modern, spacious room with a decent shower and comfortable beds. I appreciated that the rooms had hard flooring instead of carpet. Valet parking sounds expensive at $55 a night but city parking was $40 and nearly two blocks away, so it might be worth the convenience to you. Close to the Pier and mall as well as a Trader Joe’s just across the street. My only gripe was the price.
- 5/5
Nice hotel, with all the basics covered. Huge room, very clean, a/c-heater worked great. Staff was courteus. We were very pleased.
- 5/5
Really great experience overall.
- 5/5
Very convenient location
- 4/5
Excellent hotel but there is the usual LA issue- homeless insane people. Clean up LA or tourism will only keep getting worse
- 5/5
Great location and great staff and so friendly
- 3/5
Parking was expensive. No options other than to park at the hotel via valet. The TV in our room wouldn’t even turn on. And there’s no real dining options aside from a small and limited starbucks satellite location. I was supposed to be gifted points to my Marriott Account for the inconvenience of the television, but that never showed up.
- 5/5
My family and I had a really nice stay at this establishment. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the fire pit and the hot tub on the second floor, and the clean and friendly lobby. It was very nice being able to text the valet to get out car ready for us before we were downstairs. I’ll definitely be back for Santa Monica trips.

- 3/5
Unfortunately I didn’t have a great experience. I had a double queen room. Beds felt very soft and old. First night I had such a backache I switched to the other bed which was only slightly less soft. The softness is uneven and the bed had a concave half portion similar to what happens when mattresses wear down. Telephone in the room didn’t work. I also go an email while I was on the plane stating my card didn’t go thru and they were canceling my reservation. When I got to the hotel they had not canceled it, but I was told “oh that’s just our front desk, sometimes they send those emails out”. I used the same card when I got there with no issues so I worried for nothing. Hotel was right across from the metro station. Every time I left the hotel I was surrounded by houseless mentally unstable people. I’m no stranger to that population having lived in Portland but it left me so unsettled I couldn’t walk anywhere, had to keep taking Lyft rides to family events. For $350 a night I expect better. Most rooms/hotels I have stayed in for the same price are significantly nicer quality. Disappointing.

My stay was so not worth the amount of money I paid. The rooms were sterile and echoed due to the wood floors and high ceilings. The surrounding area was dirty-dirty and I felt unsafe walking to/from the hotel. The relaxation area with the fire pit near the pool was non operational. And the only food available was heated premade sandwiches and pastries from 5:30-11 pm. Parking is valet only and runs $55 a night, or you could park across the street in an unprotected lot surrounded by the homeless. Don’t waste your money and stay at the Hampton Inn up the street. Walked through and was a much better hotel….

Spacious rooms and clean.

The room was really nice and comfortable. Everything was clean. Great location. The early morning noise from the tram stop opposite might be an issue for some, but we had just arrived from Europe so the jet lag meant we were awake anyway. The coffee machine was broken so had to walk 2 blocks to get moring coffee.

Only issue were the ants. Other than that was perfect.

Property was great and staff were super helpful and friendly. The shopping plaza nearby is average and half the shops are empty. Walking distance to the pier however it is a bit rundown

Great hotel. Very comfortable bed and nicely designed room. Close to everything and friendly staff.

Parking should be included in thr stay and guests shouldn't be charged. Everything else was great.

Expensive for an area not as good as it probably was.

Unfortunately, there’s a lot of homeless folks in this area of town. I felt it unsafe to go out at night.

Belligerent staff and predatory pricing

The room was clean but seemed a bit outdated. Very convenient if you want to explore Santa Monica. Parking situation is okay they charge $55 tax for valet. No self parking. I left something behind and they were kind enough to ship out to me for a fee. (Shipping)

Very clean and very convenient location. The room was spotless and so easy access to the beach and parking! Great experience.

Great location, short walk to the pier and the promenade. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The only negative thing was the people upstairs from us were extremely noisy from midnight until 2:00am. I’m not sure if it was just the guests or if you normally hear noise like that. Other than that I’d definitely stay here again.

The area around the property did not feel safe. Valet Parking in garage was expensive- only other option was to park on street. Our floor smelled like marijuana. Other than that, the property was newish and clean.

Very attentive staff and very comfortable bed!

Don't get a room facing the Trolley Station! It is a 4 lane trolley station which means lots of honking, announcements, people! The room even had a sound machine - that shows you that it is a problem. Otherwise the hotel was great. Close to all, friendly service, nice room.

We accidently left our two pillows, is there anyway you can send to us?

Excellent location in Santa Monica with a superior staff led by Front Desk Captain Valerie who was very helpful. I strongly recommend this hotel and will return myself

I did not like that it was right by the metro line.

you have to fight to get the right room that you reserved.

They let me check in super early Saturday which was much appreciated and made my trip less stressful! The room/amenities did not meet my expectations for the price, but I suppose this might be standard for the area. It was very clean, and the staff very friendly.
