Reviews
The hotel is highly praised for its location, breakfast, and friendly staff. Many guests enjoy the wine and cheese hour and the comfortable rooms. However, some guests have issues with the noise level in certain rooms and the lack of air conditioning.

Area was quite. Breakfast was good. Cookies tasted fantastic. Bed was comfortable. Parking is tight, not really enough space for a full size truck. Was a little stuffy in the room, there is no air conditioning, just fans. Shower head was a little small, could use a bigger one.

Beautiful property! Amazing location. Parking on site. We could walk everywhere. Very friendly staff. Wonderful wine&cheese hour. Breakfast was delicious. Loved it! We never could get the fireplace to work, but it was warm so we really didn’t need it.

The breakfast is great, staff is amazing and very accommodating. We were even able to rent bikes and cruise around the area. It’s close to the boardwalk, but just far enough to have some peace and quiet. The sitting room looks out over the ocean and is truly amazing. Nothing, it is the perfect hotel!

Everything. One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. Highly recommend. Nothing

We stayed at West Cliff Inn a week ago and were surprised to find it didn’t have air conditioning which means we had to choose to either be way to hot or leave the windows open and it be loud and bright. So while the beds were comfortable we didn’t sleep at all while we were there. Proximity to the beach, Ward and board walk are amazing. However, someone did break into our rental car and steal $250 from our golf bag. That’s our bad for leaving clubs in the car but it is a bummer that the facilities are not secure in any way. The breakfast is just a continental breakfast and is over marketed as something much fancier and one of the staff told me the wine and cheese is just from Costco so not local pairings as I would have expected. Overall, it was advertised as a boutique experience but really it was pretty generic and just over priced for the location.

Cute boutique hotel in historic house. Walking distance to beach and boardwalk. Breakfast was decent, but had limited selections. Room was very spacious and had lovely little patio. Lack of AC was a bit of a challenge after a long hot workday and without screens on windows I ended up with a couple annoying flies in the room with me.

Came for my dad's funeral needed an extra night, told I was comped, instead I was put in the most expensive room and given a 25% discount. When I return around 9pm that night from the funeral to park a $100,000 rental car there was no parking, three other separate parties staying at the hotel were in the same boat, when I called the emergency line for all of us, I was given massive attitude and told to kick rocks. When I woke up to attend the second service and check out in my rented suit I was charged an extra $700. This hotel went from being my happiest place on earth to the scum of it. Thank you for ruining my week. That extra $700 you took from me for a room that I entered at a blistering 87 degrees at 9 pm (NO AC EITHER THANKS GUYS) could have come in handy when I returned home from this funeral to find my car stolen. I will never come here again. Thanks Mary. Thanks Shantae.

Great staff, clean/beautiful room, loved the view. Happy hour and breakfast a big plus
- 5/5
very nice room, comfortable bed, big tub for soaking, great view of beach, good breakfast and nice wine hour with snacks.
- 3/5
There were a number of flies in the room. First day no hot shower. Second day, either water was too hot or too cold. Room was not private at all and second night was quite nosy all night. Breakfast was good. I did not feel safe at night
- 5/5
Scenic inn with great service in a great neighborhood.
- 5/5
good breakfast

Staff was not super friendly. Outlets in the room didn’t work. Bed was not comfortable. AC didn’t work and there were eggshells in the breakfast egg scramble. The windows when open led to a public deck so anyone could see and come in easily which felt unsafe, but the room was uncomfortably hot so we opened the windows even when strangers were on the public deck right outside our window next to the bed.
- 5/5
West Cliff Inn is very charming and inviting. We were welcomed with a lovely happy hour and fresh cookies. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included and was delicious. We utilized the available bikes for a nice ride down scenic West Cliff Drive.

Comfortable king size bed, great night rest. Everything was clean, the staff was so kind and eager to assist us to make it a wonderful stay, and they sure made it. The breakfast was excellent with homemade baked dishes to make it delicious and special! We recommend this property!!

The home baked cookies , complimentary soft drinks and especially the cheese and wine in the afternoon where we met others that we would not normally have the opportunity to socialise

Great place
- 4/5
The staff were very friendly and allowed us to check in when the room was ready. They had crackers, cheese, salami, fruit and wine daily in the afternoon and they served a nice breakfast. Also, the room had blackout curtains and a fan to circulate the air. It was warm outside the room and was told by another guest that upstairs was extremely warm. The location was perfect for walking to the beaches, wharf and boardwalk.
- 5/5
West Cliff Inn is gorgeous. The Inn itself is a historic building that is filled with old world charm. The view is across from the water/wharf and is breath-taking. The staff was warm, friendly, and extremely helpful. Wine and cheese in the afternoon and a delicious breakfast in the AM were scrumptious. We will definitely be returning. 5 plus stars!!
- 5/5

The history of the home.
- 5/5
Wonderful hotel, caring staff and just a general welcoming environment that makes you want to move right in.
- 5/5
Historical house. Girl at the desk was eager to explain all the history, etc . Pier right across the street and of course the West Cliff Walk. Highly recommend. Only 9 beautifully decorated rooms … we were glad westbound several months in advance.
- 4/5
Great place to stay, quite close to the beach. Does not provide beach gears as written in the details.
- 5/5
It is a very nice historical building with a view and convenient location for Santa Cruz stay.
- 5/5
The hospitality was amazing. Overlooks the beach and boardwalk so the views were great. So much to do in the area and are able to walk to it all.
- 5/5
A beautiful, Victorian B & B with great views! Breakfast was wonderful and included as well as a wine & cheese reception. Walking distance to the Pier, beach & Boardwalk.
- 5/5
Very friendly and helpful staff.
- 5/5
What a great place to stay while at the beach! Walkable to all the attractions! Rebecca and the staff were amazing! Notified us of an early check in opportunity! Delicious breakfast and wine and cheese in the evening! What more can you ask for!

Came here with my husband to celebrate our one year anniversary. Our room was absolutely stunning with a beach front view and balcony right outside the window. They have a cute and complimentary wine and cheese hour in the late afternoon. We enjoyed a glass of wine on their front porch and watched the waves. Top balcony is excellent for viewing the sunrise, and their breakfast had a good variety of eggs, toasts, home made cinnamon bread, granola and yogurt. I appreciated that it was all vegetarian friendly!
- 5/5
Breakfast was delicious and bountiful. Only request would be to start earlier. 8:30a is late if you want to get an early start to the day. 7:30/8:00a would be better.
- 5/5
We felt pampered food was amazing. The wine and cheese and breakfast. Staff were amazing. Really enjoyed her stay highly recommended to anybody.

This place is beautiful, clean and well kept. The staff is friendly and very helpful. We arrived just on time for wine & cheese on the front porch. The breakfast selection was very nice. Location is great! I will definitely go back there!
- 5/5
Beautiful view in a gracious boutique hotel. Close to the wharf but removed for good rest!
- 5/5
What a great plan to stay. It has a great location, happy hours, and adorable room.
- 5/5
Our room was good. The wine and cheese happy hour was a very nice touch. The location was convenient. Breakfast was wonderful. We would definitely recommend.
- 5/5
Excellent place to stay
- 5/5
We loved our stay. we stayed in the smallest room and there was still plenty of room if you’re just planning to lay your head down to stay the night. The staff was really friendly. The wine and cheese was very nice with a great place to sit. The cheese and crackers were good. I would not recommend the wine, the breakfast, however, was very good the museli and the homemade granola were amazing. It was a great little overnight, so easy to get to from Silicon Valley.
- 5/5
so far we are loving it! so elegant, warm, unique and homey. will definitely planning to be back as soon as i can and i haven’t even checked out from my first stay!
- 5/5
Great location, great service, absolutely adorable
- 5/5
Wonderful place to stay for a couple of nights. The breakfasts were tasty and the staff very friendly.
- 5/5
Great place. Amazing views.
- 5/5
We loved our stay. The hotel itself is an old home that has been exquisitely restored. From our room, to the sitting area, with a view of the ocean, to the balcony upstairs, with an even more amazing view, and the porch to sit on in front, it was lovely. The homemade cookies that greeted us upon arrival were delicious, as well as our breakfasts in the morning. And every single one of the staff members was attentive to our every need.
- 5/5
We enjoyed the wine/cheese hour and the breakfast.
- 5/5
Staff was knowledgeable and helpful
- 5/5
Five stars all the way. This is a BEAUTIFUL property. We loved our room, one of the nicest places we stayed in a two-week tour of California. Amazing location right across the street from the wharf where you can get some dinner and see the sea lions perched on the pier supports. The room had a great view, absolutely amazing marble bathroom... complimentary wine and cheese in the afternoon, fresh baked cookies when we arrived, great breakfast in the morning. We just LOVED our stay here, highly recommend!
- 5/5
We had stayed here before several years ago and really enjoyed the location near the pier and beach. First rate on most everything. The staff was excellent and very helpful. Only thing our room lacked was a working jacuzzi tub. We will come back.
- 5/5
It's wonderful. The Four Sisters properties are top notch.
- 5/5
This was the best stay of our road trip. Staff so welcoming and friendly. Nice complimentary breakfast, sodas, cheese & wine in afternoons, cookies, coffee and teas. Our room (4) had great view out to the bay and pier.
- 4/5
I loved the unique quality of this building. The room was beautiful. Cozy common area. Staff was above average and very friendly. Breakfast could have been better
- 5/5
Perfect place, perfect location, great view, great happy hour and breakfast, welcome cookies
- 5/5
The staff at West Cliff Inn were all incredibly nice. The breakfasts were yummy and had lots of healthy options. The location was so convenient. We’ll stay here the next time we’re in Santa Cruz.
- 5/5
Great staff very friendly
- 5/5
Beautifully appointed
- 5/5
big and beautiful room. very comfortable bed. good coffee and tea available all the time with cookies :)
- 4/5
I would have given a higher score had it not been for Stella at reception. Rude attitude, unhelpful in resolving the issue of the hotel charging us despite the fact that Hotels.com had paid already. The other person, the young man on another day, was helpful, friendly, and informative. The hotel itself is lovely with character and great 5 PM wine and cheese reception.
- 5/5
Great coffee and breakfast service
- 5/5
This has been an amazing stay. We had a beautiful room and our host who showed us around did a great job. He gave us recommendations for restaurants and other things to do. We will definitely be back. Breakfast was a basic continental breakfast with a specialty item. It could have use a protein
- 5/5
There are not words to describe the beauty and old world charm of the West Cliff Inn. From the moment I arrived I felt at home. They have welcome cookies waiting on your bed, the afternoon wine is amazing and has plenty of snack options, and the home cooked breakfast each morning was amazing. We aren’t talking just pastries, which they have, we are talking blueberry poppy seed Dutch baby and a vegetable frittata. The area is extremely walkable to the pier which has tons of dining options and shopping. You can also walk along the ocean to the lighthouse. Very close to the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk as well which makes for nightime fun in the arcade. It is off a busy street so there is some traffic noise, however, once you sit outside watching the sunset over the ocean, who cares?
- 5/5
Charlotte was so pleasant and welcoming, especially after a long travel day. Property is beautiful!
- 5/5
Off season rates made this stay possible for us and we hope to book with them in the future. Location-Walk to Boardwalk, beaches, pier, or West Cliff. Breakfast choices in the morning and wine and cheese in the afternoon were delightful. Like that the breakfast and happy hour were serve yourself and that there were individual small tables inside and chairs on the balcony to enjoy the goodies. It is nice to have things served on real dishware and not paper plates.
- 5/5
Excellent welcome - also free soft drinks and cheese and wine for an hour which was lovely treat.
- 4/5
Beautiful hotel, amazing breakfast and very nice wine and appetizers in the afternoon. Only drawback was a very warm fireplace we couldn’t turn off. Was 77 degrees akl night which was a little warm for our taste. But overall, a beautiful property.
- 5/5
The Inn is a beautiful building with large, comfortable rooms. We enjoyed the bed and breakfast aspect and being able to meet and socialize with the other guests. Wine and cheese, coffee, cookies, soft drinks are nice touches. We will be back!
- 5/5
Very comfortable accommodations. Smallish room but very well appointed. Glass glasses in the large marble bathroom with plenty of counter space for ice bucket and drink mixing. Real ceramic coffee mugs at the in-room Keurig station. Mini fridge and large armoire for storage. A little short on horizontal surfaces for stuff and only one chair but not enough of a problem for a downgrade. They really made us feel welcome.
- 5/5
Convenient location walking distance to the wharf and boardwalk. We love the homelike ambience and personal touches like the welcome cookies. Friendly staff.
- 5/5
Everything was first rate. Perfect location, amazing room, and a really service oriented staff.
- 5/5
Absolutely the best and Perfect hotel on the beach (3 min walk). Extremely clean clean! the service is awesome!
- 5/5
Super close to the wharf and the boardwalk! Free on-site parking was so convenient! I loved the Victorian Mansion beauty and decor! The bathroom was breathing and mostly marble. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were perfect. I reserved the private patio with the hot tub! Very classy place!
- 5/5
Beautiful place, love the wine and cheese treats in the late afternoon, really nice breakfast. Staff is wonderful!
- 5/5
Amazing, right next to event I was participating in. Very friendly staff and very accommodating
- 5/5
And the staff members there were all very friendly and helpful for our needs. I
- 5/5
Great place to stay with a group of friends or family. Friendly, clean, and great view. A little pricey so do your research. This has rooms on all 3 floors. No elevator.
- 5/5
Absolutely beautiful inn! Great breakfast.
- 5/5
The West Cliff fan is an amazing place to stay. The bed was very comfortable and the jetted bathtubs are fabulous! Big sash windows allow the fresh ocean breeze into the room. There are comfy chairs on the front deck and upstairs patio looking to the view across the street of the beach & boardwalk. Breakfast was amazing and so are the cookies. Only a short walk down the hill to the wharf, beach, & boardwalk. Walk or ride up West Cliff Drive to see the view from the cliffs and watch the surfers.
- 5/5
Loved the atmosphere of the Inn, the view of the pier, and surroundings. We would gladly stay there again, and highly recommend West Cliff Inn if you visit Santa Cruz.
- 5/5
Beautiful historic Victorian hotel with updated rooms and common area. Very friendly staff and nice breakfast and evening wine and snacks.
- 5/5
Central location
- 5/5
We had a great experience at the hotel . The breakfast was good and we received great customer service from Amber!
- 5/5
Beautiful views of the beach and coast. Easy bike or walk to many places in Santa Cruz. Wonderful breakfast, local roaster coffee, and complementary glass water bottles on the rooms: No wasted plastic bottles!
- 5/5
Wonderful experience to stay in a historic landmark: quiet, comfortable room with breathtaking view of the waterfront. Delicious breakfast (with care to include food items I requested.) Convenient to the tourist areas and downtown. Would definitely stay again!
- 5/5
Great place to stay at a historic property. Beautiful rooms, friendly and accommodating staff and excellent breakfast. Fantastic views of ocean from front porch
- 5/5
Beautiful historic house with lovely parlor downstairs. Cozy and romantic room with comfortable bed. Really great breakfast. What more could you want?
- 5/5
This hotel was amazing!! 😍 From the large well equipped room with the 20 foot ceiling, to the complementary happy hour, and the delicious homemade breakfast, all within walking distance to the Santa Cruz pier - it was a dream!!
- 4/5
The wine and cheese that is offered daily was amazing. We would sit in the front parlor and sometimes visit with the other guests. We had some really great conversations and even received some great marriage advice. The staff are kind and accommodating.
- 4/5
Great location but staff should have given advance warning of difficulty entering from West Cliff Dr.
- 5/5
Otherwise a very nice place!
- 5/5
Beautiful access from this hotel to the cliffs walk out to the light house and Steamers lane, easy access to the pier by foot.
- 5/5
Rapidly becoming big fans of Four Sisters Inns. We love the little extras, especially the wine and cheese in the late afternoon. This inn was no exception with very friendly and helpful staff, good food and nice location. Don’t count on using the bikes though as there seem to be only two in each one and one was unserviceable.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel in a prime location. The staff took great care of us. Breakfasts were spectacular!
- 5/5
Will definitely return
- 5/5
So relaxing. Nice touches with the breakfast.
- 5/5
Great stay!
- 5/5
I have visited Santa Cruz many times for work and this was the first time I stayed here. I will ONLY stay here going forward! Check in was quick and easy. Once they found out I was vegan, they made the evening cheese tray with wine and the breakfast (both free each night of my stay) vegan!! The manager told me as long as they know ahead of time, they can make special arrangements. I received text updates which I really appreciated. The room was nice and had a little fireplace. The TV was huge (60" maybe?) and there were comfy robes to use. There was a wine refrigerator but no microwave. The only thing I did not like was the tub - it was a sunken tub and very high for me (5'3") so I had to be careful getting in and out of it but that wouldn't stop me from staying there again and again!
- 5/5
Amazing location and we loved our room, the staff, and the extra attention to details.
