The location is good, close to downtown. The staff were very agreeable. The rooms are very basic. No amenities to speak of. The smell of cleaners and deodorizer is very strong. Towels and pillows were minimal but staff provided more on request. No coffee. The refrigerator is useful. The price seems very high for something so basic.

The bed was fairly comfortable. The fridge kept things cold. Ample parking and centrally located in town. From pictures online it was way worse than it appeared online. It was graduation weekend at UCSC so prices were sky high.

I would like to say thank you to the management. We left a bag in the hotel room. I called them immediately and they held the bag. I picked it up this morning and there was no issues.

We like how the location was close but not to the boardwalk. The room space was cramped. We had a king room, so the bed and desk took up most of the space. The walking path in the room was tight. Next time, we will try the queen to see if that gives us more room.

Stayed at Ocean Inn in Santa Cruz and had a good experience checking in. The gentleman at the front desk was very nice, welcoming, and helpful. He made the check-in process easy and pleasant.

It also has done a nice job of renovating its rooms, and has very nice touches like hangers that actually detach, built-in hair dryers, and most impressive of all, a color selectable defogging mirror! We will certainly return to this property when we come into Santa Cruz!

We stay there for one night. The staff was very friendly very clean rooms, easy access to the parking lot. The only thing we didn’t like is the wall too thin so my neighbors woke us up at 5:33 am they were noisy and smoking and after a long drive that was just to early for us.

I recommend this hotel because of its proximity to the beach and the price range is very reasonable. There is no breakfast nor pool . It’s a safe place and clean . The rooms are comfortable and spacious. Parking is very easy . Also the hallway smells nice and clean.

The hotel is in a great area, with great views, and near many restaurants and stores. Extremely close to the boardwalk! Great price, great stay! Recommend for large families!

Parking was easy and felt secured. Room smelled and looked clean. The beds were a little hard. There’s plenty of shops near by. Everything was great until we literally were checking out that I saw a live roach on counter. I did noticed the outside trash cans were full and spilling with trash. Other than that the location was great and the price was affordable. Staff was friendly.

The staff was friendly, easy parking, and this location is super close to the pier. Also having a refrigerator and microwave is great. The shower could've been cleaner, and there was a Band-Aid covering the peephole which I found to be gross. Other than that, I had a solid stay.

The only major downside is the bathroom, which is tiny. The door barely clears the toilet and is inches from the sink and shower. There is no counter space for toiletries outside of the very small ledge of the sink. The shower has great water pressure, but the curtain doesn't cover the whole tub, creating puddles of water on the floor. (This is very noticeable in such a small space!) Bath towels were also thin and small, but not a deal breaker. In summary, decent little spot for low-maintenance travelers without kids. Not flashy but quite serviceable. Wouldn't recommend for older or disabled folks, as the bathroom would be a nightmare. (Probably for people bathing small children too.)

Parking was easy. Floors were not clean. They were swept, but not mopped. Our feet turned black after a couple of hours. I would say this place is stingy. Probably because Santa Cruz is a touristy place. No early check in unless you pay. It was less than an hour before check in and our toddler needed a nap. They offer free coffee and tea in the morning, but no liquid creamers like coffee mate. It was an average hotel. Beds seemed clean.

The light from the balcony light is not dimmable and not ideal for light sleepers like me. The entire building had a funny smell. If you ask for a balcony room, tell them not to put you on the Ocean Street side because of the noise.

Was fine, clean room. Wanted to charge me to check in early. Every hotel or motel I’ve ever stayed at will check in early if room is available free of charge. If would charge me meant room was available so why charge for early check in? For $250 for a no amenities motel room, not accommodating guest - not good. Oh he did say a could come back at 2.30 instead but it was 1so did me no good, I wanted to drop bag, change to go to beach… thanks for bothing

We booked a 3-day stay at Seaside Inn & Suites for our first ever visit to Santa Cruz. Unfortunately, the room we were given was not consistent with the photos of this property on Expedia and lacked basic amenities. The bedside tables had no lamps nor were there wall reading lamps; the only lighting in the room was very bright ceiling lights. When I asked if we could be moved to another room that had bedside lights, the manager said there was no other room available. His solution was to bring a lamp, but there was no accessible electric outlet on my side of the bed and he had to plug it in on my husband's side. When my husband plugged his phone charger into the same outlet, the lamp went out. The A/C and heating wall unit was leaking water onto the floor. The manager saw the water and wiped it up with dirty looking rags which he then left under the unit. Lastly, the bathroom and shower were very small and lacked a light in the shower. Due to these issues we checked out after one night. Expedia handled our complaint promptly and satisfactorily.

Stains on ‘clean towels,’ noticed some stains on the bedding smell like if someone had been smoking in there even though we booked a ‘non smoking room’ Bathroom wasn’t even fully clean what looks like mold possibly in the bathroom or just dirty! Plus, the door handle to get into my room itself was a little off as all of the other rooms doors had a cover over the key hole since the room opens with the card key. Just looked suspicious to me, especially traveling as a single parent with kids. Bathtub wouldn’t drain, had to wait 10 mins in between showers to drain! As soon as we walked into the room there was a musty smell + cigarette smell. perfect reminder for myself to ALWAYS check the reviews!

I had a suite and a room for my daughter’s bday. The stay started off not so great after inspecting and getting the room ready for our stay. I use disposable sheets when I travel but, while looking for bed bugs etc. the sheets were lifted. Food and dirt debris with as one questionable stain were inside the crevices of the mattress. When asked if they could at least vacuum the mattress they got an attitude and refused. They instead hit the mattress with the sheets they were going to replace the old ones with. Housekeeping couldn’t speak good English but said no, we don’t have the staff for that. I told her that was not my problem. They did change the sheets but, offered no other response. I at that point was unable to rebook 2 new rooms. They were “full” and we wanted to start our vacay. Needless to say I would not recommend based on this experience. I did not feel like they went above and beyond to make us feel better. Avoid until they are less challenged for staff and can properly clean. You get what you pay for at the end of the day. Unfortunately my pics don’t show the extent of the dirt and stains.

I checked in late at night, front desk did not want to let my fiance and I check in, I provided all my information because she did not have hers they did not want to let us stay. This made no sense to me as everywhere I have ever stayed does not require identification for other occupants staying. Regardless they said it was property and did not want to issue me a refund.

A very budget room. If you are looking for a cheap place with no frills or extras, this is it. Seemed safe enough.

My friends and I stayed in a 2 queen bed room and it was very spacious. The motel is quiet. Bed was comfortable, but the base was made of metal and could be squeaky when you got on or off the bed. The hair dryer didn't work well so bring your own. There is no pool which was fine because it was cold and rainy. The price was very reasonable. I slept well for 3 nights there. Not a fancy place but nice and comfortable.

Easy to find, a lot of construction workers staying there. There multiple places where there was vomit in the parking lot. The rooms were clean but you can hear everything from the other rooms. As a family I will not be staying there again.

The WiFi was weak and we were located right by the office. The hotel is located on a busy street and so there was a lot of noise from traffic and screaming homeless people during the night. Overall, though it was a nice hotel for the price.

The check-in process was mediocre at best. We were uncharged $11 per child since they weren’t on the Expedia reservation. We asked for more pillows and they did end up being them but originally told us 4 people in room and 4 pillows saying there were no more in the hotel. Even though two of th pillows looked to be more decorative. Rooms are good. Beds okay. Shower is fine. Nothing special. Good location (close to mystery spot and the board walk and downtown). Will definitely be trying something different next time we stay in Santa Cruz.

Great clean experience a few minutes from the beach!

This hotel was not as advertised. The parking area seemed sketchy with shattered vehicle glass on the ground. The room had a terrible odour and we could not bring ourselves to stay there. Don’t be fooled by the reviews.

Parking was easy. Location good (for us, anyway). Place not bad, but thin walls so pretty noisy. Can hear talking, footsteps, tv's. Everything. Shower head so low I had to bend down to get under it. I'm 5'10". Mattresses hard as plywood. Air conditioner insanely loud. Room was clean. Front desk okay, not particularly friendly or welcoming. Overall place had prison-like vibe. Not awful, but I wouldn't go back.

Parking was easy. The staff were very unfriendly and unprofessional. Anticipate extra charges that were not listed, I got questioned about the number of guests and their age (apparently if they were under 18 that was not ok). The room was fine, floors were a tad dirty but nothing too bad.

The modlysmell was not pleasant, although the description stated it was newly renovated it did not appear so.

Bathroom door wouldn't close. Vanity had water damage to the wood and needed paint. Some improvements had been made. A new lighted mirror was in the bathroom was hung too low so it didn't hide the old electrical cover. Bed had worn out green bedspread. Mattress was worn out. Noise from the hallway was loud. Noise from outside was loud. We left and didn't spend the night.

My room had a gross smell when I walked in. The smell was not coming from the hall or outside. I had to air out the room. The area is noisy and it was hard to sleep. I left a night early so I could sleep in my own bed.

Clean great staff and local to all shops

The room was spacious and check-in was easy. They charged $20 for an hour early check-in as well. Only thing was our hair dryer didn’t work, the water temperature wasn’t very hot, and we were well aware check out was at 11am and they called us twice and when I was able to answer the phone at 10:45am they asked if we were checking out. I’ve never had that happen with a hotel stay..so, that was a little odd and felt we were being rushed out.

The staff were fine , i didn't have any issues at all with the people i interacted with. The issue was the room i was in, it was absurdly dirty. Floor, pillow cases and the comforter were littered with long black hair. Close examination of the sheets showed crusty brown marks. Which we took photos of. It was almost as if the bed was made but not cleaned. Staff was really nice and provided clean sheets and pillow cases no questions asked. This was a 2 night stay, the longer we were in the room we started we noticed a strong smell of Pee in corners of the room which we had to open windows to air out. My partner and i didn't spend much time in the room during the weekend but the time we did stay was pretty bad.

Room was somewhat clean. Shower had black mold build up that should be cleaned, replace or paint the grout and caulking around the shower to make it look clean. The bed was rather squeaky. Towels need to be replaced for more absorbent ones. The towels are super thin. but other than this it was a comfortable stay.

Some minor details: The room was a bit musty when we walked in, but not enough to make us reconsider our choice. The shower was tight and the shower head was poisoned low and awkwardly - I’m 5’2 and had to stand right under the water flow, I can’t imagine anyone taller than me. The heater had an awful smell - I had to open the windows to get rid of the smell which was counterproductive. The tv remote didn’t do anything other than power on/off and adjust the volume.

Room was dirty, no soap in soap diapers, old food in the refrigerator and dirty sheets on the bed.

Aside from staff being very friendly and the easy parking the rest of the stay was very disappointing. Bed smelled like body oder and the ac/heater machine that is attached to the wall had cracks on the edges and you can see the street and feel the freezing breeze through them. You can hear everything through the door. The floors were not cleaned and my white sock immediately turned brown from the bottom. Walls were dirty with splatters of some sort. Never again. I’m sorry for the reviews but I have to let other possible customers know.

Clean, roomy, secure will definitely be booking again

Unfortunately, the rest of my experience was quite unpleasant. The room and building seems quite run down. The entire place (hallway and room smelled of a strong, unpleasant odor of cleaning solution, the bathroom smelled strongly of urine, and the bathroom sink was backed up (drained very slowly) and unclean (with hair sticking to the walls of the sink). There was a dark and unsightly view out the windows, because about one feet in front of the windows was a chain link fence with trash strewn against the fence, scraggly dusty bushes, and an asphalt parking lot beyond (and at night, someone in the parking lot, was hanging out against the fence talking to himself, and making loud, weird, crazy sounds). The walls are thin, so the guy upstairs who stayed up all night on the phone and dropped stuff on the bare laminate floors, made for a night of little sleep. There was a power outage in the area for a few hours, so the room went entirely dark, but no one bothered to check, to see if I was ok. Fortunately, I was able to retrieve a mini bicycle light from my car to dimly illuminate the room. During this time, there was no heat or ventilation in the room, and the food stored in the fridge was not cooled. ...And the security door leading into the building was propped open.

The room was neglected and dirty.

The office was open (1700) but no one in the office when I went to check in. Rang the bell for 15 minutes and called the local phone # which I could hear ring loudly in the back room. Chatted with Hotels.com chatbot trying to get in contact the property....While chatting, I could hear the phone ringing and ringing and ringing....finally the clerk finally came to the desk....seemed like he had just awakened (time was 1725)...got checked in went to room...room was very clean. About 4 hours later went to take a shower.....no hot water....let water run for 15 minutes; still no hot water. I called the desk (21:00) and there was no answer. Tried the desk every few minutes after that....finally got an answer. Desk apologized and said to give the water 5 minutes before trying again...15 minutes later the hot water worked. Got an email apology from the property regarding the check-in process. Property offered to give me discount on my next visit....I live 200 miles away and I see no need to return. BTW there were only 6 cars in the parking lot when I left at 0600 in the morning; it wasn't as if the property was so busy that base line customer service levels should have been impacted..

It was not my usual type of place but it was clean and worked out for our stay.

I stayed one night. The room was clean, and had everything I needed. The hotel is in a good area, there is plenty of food near buy. Downtown and the beach is close as well.

Amenities lacking and worse. Literally no lamps just overhead lights. Bathroom sink worked fine but cabinet in disrepair. The most glaring issue, which I realized in morning, is that bedding probably had not been washed - found numerous hairs once I pulled the comforter further and further back.

Overall, the experience was fine. Not great, not bad. The doors didn't want to shut tightly so you really had to push hard to get them to lock. It's next door to a dispensary but they seem to be all over Santa Cruz and it didn't seem to be a negative reason to not stay there. Just something to be aware of. The place was clean and fine for a motel experience.

With all that being said the bedding was clean and the bed wasn’t horrible with distinct indents. The rooms were also fairly quite even with guest up and down the hall and in the rooms to either side.

The room was not bad, but there were what appears to be regulars next door, it was like a drive through with people coming and going all hours of the night. Very unrestful sleep here

This is a nice, safe place and a good value.

The room was neat and clean, however it lacked any USB hookups. Wall sockets are worn, and do not hold plugs for charging. A few minor upgrades, and this would be perfect. Homeless are harmless, but they are around, and you need to watch your back. Overall it's a good deal for the price.

Not a terrible place but too many problems during our two-day stay made for a negative experience. Here’s the list: Bathroom fan motor screeched when the light was turned on. The bathroom door was misaligned requiring an effort to push it closed. Internet did not work and the manager blamed my laptop (which worked in three other hotels during this road trip). No full-length mirror. Sink had no space to place anything wider than a cell phone. Shower soap dispenser required over fifty depressions for enough soap or shampoo, Housekeeping neglected to provide toilet paper or plastic cups. Footsteps from second floor guests were prominent. One tiny towel rack above toilet and none within reach of shower. I don’t like leaving negative reviews but this place was poorly managed.

The property was in a good location, 2 doors down there's an excellent sandwich shop. Its walking distance to the major street, Pacific, where there are shops and restaurants and also Trader Joes. The beds were comfy. The room was nicely decorated and clean. The air conditioner was a little loud but we got used to it. The gentleman at check in was very kind. He came up to out room immediately when I couldnt figure out how to work the tv. We would definitely stay there again.

Enjoyed two nights here. Nice and clean. We had the remodeled king room. Bed was very comfortable. It was very well maintained and relaxing. Close enough to take a nice stroll to the boardwalk and beach.

Second time I've stayed here. It's easy nice and q quiet. Not much noise at all except for the people in the next room knocking it out about 945pm..... they were going at it really good. Squeaky needs a plus!

We arrived a little early before check-in however Andy graciously provided our rooms with a friendly welcome and great hospitality!

Front guest service was excellent and accommodating. We enjoyed our time.

(Also no carpets and a place where pets don't stay was helpful for our sensitivities.) The staff were very helpful, perhaps the best we've ever encountered. We arrived well past midnight, weary from travels and were welcomed cheerily. The next day the airlines delivered wayward baggage - and the staff made sure we received it promptly. We may not travel to Santa Cruz again in the future, but if we ever go back, I would want to stay here again: clean and comfortable (and overall quiet). Great location, too - we walked all over from there!

Got an early check-in without having to pay an extra fee. The room seemed OK, but there was noticeable noise from the people in the next room and above. There was an assistance bar next to the toilet that appeared to have been installed after the toilet since it made sitting there like you were being crowded off. Most annoying was the lack of outlets to plug in electronic device chargers. We moved the credenza out and unplugged the fridge and microwave so we could charge our phones.

Property is decent. Not too close to the boardwalk. Bed was comfortable. Room is average. Some updates.

I always come to this hotel the prices are the most reasonable and it has everything I need. Microwave and small fridge, easy free parking, clean and modest. Walking distance to downtown Santa Cruz and a quick drive to the boardwalk.

It wasn't totally bad and not totally amazing... it's a much older property that has been remodeled, but still gives off an "old" vibe. Very close to the waterfront area.

Walls are paper thin. Upstairs floorboards creaky. Could not sleep at all.

The room was large and the bed was comfortable enough so I was able to get an okay nights sleep. The older air conditioning unit worked okay but it was oddly positioned under a table and difficult to access. The rooms are non smoking but people can smoke on the balcony so I had to leave the door closed, not ideal when I paid extra for a balcony room. The shower did not have a light in it and it was dark once I pulled the curtain closed. There was a dispenser for body soap and shampoo on the wall in the shower. Pictured in their ad were typical amenities like bars of soap and bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and lotions. None of those items were there. The area that the hotel is located in is sketchy. Fortunately my son was available to walk me back to my room. We had to walk past some shady looking characters that were sitting on the stairs. They all said hi to me in a creepy way. As a senior female solo traveler I did not feel 100% safe there. I had the security bar closed on the door and the maid tried to get in before I was ready to leave. I had just told her that I would be a few minutes longer and there was no Do Not Disturb sign for the door. Quick tip if you stay there, try not to park near the dumpsters because your car might get seagull bombed, lol. Ask me how I know! It’s average and I don’t think I’d stay there again.

The owner is very hospitable and made my stay comfortable. Im im town to work and the spacious room was a great place to recharge after each workday. I really appreciate the service provided.

Our room was not very clean. Our daughter was crawling in the floor for only 5 mins and her hands and knees were black! The restroom smelt like urine. So we kept our daughter off the floor for the rest of our stay. Very nice location. Not too far from boardwalk and traffic around us wasn’t as busy. Overall great location.

Great place to stay with your pup. Lovely pool and spa. Loved the bar area and the bands playing Friday and Saturday gave it lots of atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

No frills, but clean, comfortable and close proximity to numerous businesses and services. Friendly and helpful staff too! I’d go back if needed.

Did not check in at all when I got to the property the manager wanted me to pay extra money after I had pay on line

We expected a clean cozy place for the cash we put up. Wasn’t super pricy. But the bed was like we were laying on cardboard over huge aluminum cans. Place was not cleaned well just picked up. You can tell no one cleaned shower or floors with mop. New paint doesn’t fix everything. Dissatisfied and really wanted our money back. I left it alone.

Loved having a balcony upgrade, super kind of the gentleman at the front desk. We also were able to check in a bit early (1hr specifically). And there is so much to walk to, food, park, cvs, and the boardwalk if your'e a healthy walker.

The rooftop seating area was really nice to see the beach from!

The owners son threatened me. Told me is was gonna come to my house. I have never been treated so poorly and have never been threatened because my service dog urinated in the wrong place. This hotel is not only dirty and poorly cared it is the WORST!!

Super noisy hallways, uncomfortable mattress, furniture was super beat up, curtains were torn and there was nothing at all on the walls.

It was very run down, dingy bedspread and towels, broken screens, very old and tired.

I had the room that had the 3 queen beds. There was still a lot of walking space, really liked that there was a balcony. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable. It was nice to have a suite like room without the price of a suite.

We, DID NOT smoke in the room. I picked up old cig butts from outside and threw away in trash can in room. Manager accused me of smoking inside, there were smoke alarms! Charged ccard a steep smoking deposit! Cost us double+! After moving all week too.

The desk clerk was very nice and friendly. The cleaning staff was not at all interested in guests or in being friendly.

Creepy hotel room, super dirty and dusty, beddings were itchy ad for sure had bed bugs. The TV is too old.

The place is kind of a dump. Needs some attention. We choose this place because of price. This area is expensive. Second night of our stay, the people in room above us were very loud. It went on until past midnight. Sounded like they were moving furniture

The staff in the front office were awesome. They were very helpful and efficient even gavr suggestions of things to do while in town.
