The walls were very thin and I could clearly hear the people next door as if they were in the same room. The particular room I was in smelled very bad like bad body odor. The room was clean but the place generally looked pretty run down. I will stay elsewhere next time.

We had a room on the top floor. No complaints. The kids loved the pool and we loved how close everything was to walk to. There was even a great breakfast place right across the street. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean. We will definitely be back!

The staff is friendly. 1)They double booked our room and I walked in to our room with a stranger in it. That was very awkward. 2)They are "pet friendly," but we can't leave our pets unattended in the room. The boardwalk and the beach doesn't allow dogs so what are you supposed to do?? 3) The floors of the room were so dirty and dusty. My boys were wearing socks and their socks were black within a few minutes of walking around the room.

Perfect location & within walking distance to beach. Room was clean & spacious. Pool & spa was as near our room & was perfect to end the day. Check in was very quick & parking lot and was large enough that I was never worried if there would be enough spots left-unlike our stays @ other hotels in area.

the property had a decent sized elevator and good mattresses, room was clean parking lot filled up very quick, house keepers were too eager to start their job. We left at 10 am to get breakfast and came back to clear out the rest of the hotel room and check out and despite us not returning room keys and still having time in our contract and the do not disturb sign house keepers were in our room throwing stuff away out of our fridge.

We liked the customer service. The location is super close to the beach and downtown. The fridge was nice and big. They are pet friendly. The parking was good. We also liked the hot tub.

Staff was helpful and friendly at check-in and for other questions. There was also construction happening a few rooms over, on an early Monday Memorial Day morning @ 8:00am. That shouldn’t have happened on a holiday weekend with guests still asleep.

Property was clean and well maintained Parking is limited but we did get lucky and found a spot late at night. I didn’t like that there was no internal locking mechanism on the door to lock the door from inside. Most hotel rooms have this.

Staff was super nice room was clean but small however I really wasn’t in it. The ac in my room sucked. Probably just my room but still inconvenient considering I love ac. The jacuzzi (both) was probably 94-95 and the jets didn’t work. That was disappointing especially when it was getting cold. Other than those 2 somewhat minor issues everything else was awesome. Great staff. Clean. Amazing location. For the price it’s worth every penny.

Property has nice curb appeal upon approach. Excellent service was provided at the front desk and the clerk went above and beyond to help us with our requests. We had an ADA room to accommodate my elderly mother's needs, yet the bed was too high for her to get in . We had to borrow a step stool to allow her to get in and out of bed on her own.

Sheets were stretched out and bunched terribly when you were trying to sleep. The louvered shutters were aesthetically nice but allowed bright lights to shine in your eyes through the cracks at night. Tv reception kept going in and out and was blurry. Floor was sandy.

Although there was some construction work being done on the property, the stay was great. The accommodations were clean and the staff was friendly. What else can you ask for from a low cost hotel stay in Santa Cruz?

The hotel is more like a motel, but the rooms were clean, spacious, and the staff were great. It's located in a great location, a very short walk to the boardwalk, the amusement park, and a hosts of shops and restaurants.

Great for what we needed, unplanned stay overnight. Only complaint is there was a smoke alarm under the mattres, chirped all night, we looked everywhere and didnt find it until the next morning.

Very nice stay but never got my $100.00 deposit I paid in cash.. so recommend if you pay cash get your receipt because I didnt so I lost out on that. Ugh!!

No matter if price is high or low this hotel has everything here makes it so convenient, for you smokers ashtrays everywhere don’t need to walk off property, pet area with bags, staff all so nice and smiles, they even do copies if you need them, very quite, sauna, pool, attractions walking distant.. Definitely worth the stay

Clean, great location and friendly staff. Hot tubs were below 100 degrees which we enjoyed. Quick five minute walk to the boardwalk/wharf. The only issue we had was a maid came into our room when we were away when the Do Not Disturb sign was hung outside. She wrote down her name on the provided spot in the room to tell us who cleaned the room….. but then didn’t clean anything. We notified the front desk that someone had entered the room and they didn’t even ask who it was. Just offered delayed check out. So that was a little uncomfortable, but otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

The hotel has to very small hot tubs fits 3 people maybe 4, pool was nice and refreshing. Doesn’t offer breakfast, that was a bummer. No other amenities offered. Small parking lot. Room was nice with 2 kings bed, one had its own room.

Loved how close this was to the beach and the little shops, it made everything so easy especially with the parking. The pool and jacuzzi were great my kids had a blast, and the location was a close proximity to good food and the atmosphere around the boardwalk and the pier.

Everything was wonderful, especially the double room for my granddaughter and her mom. The only problem was that there was no cream or sugar for our coffees!!

We showed up at midnight and our check in process was smooth. We were able to check in through a window on the side of the office and our front desk agent was very kind and prompt. The room was so clean! The bed was very comfortable, and although we just stayed for one night I would definitely come and stay again. 10/10 recommend.

Nice room, friendly staff! Proximity walking anywhere was great but in the evening the area was a bit rougher than expected. But all in all, had a great sleep and walk about, very pet friendly and fun time!

Pool/Hot tub were great. Washer and dryer on the second floor is convenient. Five minute walk to the beach/boardwalk/pier. Great spot and affordably priced.

Stayed here plenty of times, first time reviewing. Wife works every Thursday so sometimes we extend our stay into Friday. Love this place as you can walk to Main Beach in a few mins. Pool was kinda cold for my toddler but hot tub was nice. Better than the place next door. Rooms and parking are always great. I think they upgraded us to a room with separated rooms, which was nice with mother-in-law and a kid. Will stay again.

The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was clean. It was nice that there were a washer and dryer. I would have liked if breakfast was included, but other amenities like free parking and great location made up for it.

The staff provided excellent service; however, the property shows significant aging. The bathroom was noticeably unclean, with mold present around the bathtub and along the walls.

Absolutely amazing location, easy walk to the beach and boardwalk, Beach volleyball, the super long dock, and electric bike rentals and the coastal bike path right there. Easy to get to downtown, lots of food options, and even a convenient store within walking distance. A little rough around the edges with the room and pool quality, but very reasonable for the price. Would definitely stay there again, my teenager loved it too. I love being able to hear all the kids playing on the soccer field.

The facility was clean and well maintained. Hotel desk clerk was attentive and they had disposable toothpaste packets for us, since we forgot ours. Room was clean. Bed was comfy. Short walk to the beach. All in all a great place to stay.

Room was decently clean. The floor could have been cleaner. Very close to the beach. The plantation shutters on the windows was a bad idea. The light from the outside shined into the room making it difficult to sleep. Pool and hot tub are nice but very crowded.

Really don’t know how it got a “wonderful” overall rating on hotels.com… it is a very dated, kind of damp and dingy place. Some upgrades have been made, like new headboard and media console, but the rug is dingy and dark, the bathroom and shower had cracked tiles that were attempted to be recaulked, and the walls and floors let all the sound in from the other rooms and outdoor hallway. The window overlooking the pool had condensation all over it… we were on the 2nd floor so not sure why the condensation. I get it, the salty air doesn’t help keep buildings nice, it wears them down faster. But wish the ratings actually reflected reality, so we had known what we were getting into. The guy at front desk was pretty abrupt and didn’t give us any info on the building. I asked if he thought there was parking further back in the lot, instead of where I was parked near the parking lot entrance and street… he didn’t check or think twice, he said “keep your car there” but when I walked to our room, there were several spots (seemly safer spots as they would have been away from the general road more). The woman at the front desk the next morning was friendly. Overall this place is a solid 2-star hotel. It’s not a diamond in the rough or a hidden gem.

The room is always clean, changed towels and linens straightened . Garbage cleaned everyday. I was greatly satisfied with the staff.

Excellent clean

Stayed there for 5 nights and every night was noisy. Could hear neighbours yelling and fighting on one side and stomping and moving furniture around above us. They actually give you earplugs on the table when you arrive so it must be an issue. I needed them. Pool and hot tubs were nice. Location was great.

Absolutely filthy! Black curly hair is on coffee mugs. Mold in the shower. Daughter got a fungus from the hot tub and had to get medical attention for it. No drinkable water on site. Rude staff.

Everything was great! Clean and a good location. Shower pressure and temperature was excellent. My only complaints is that the sink is outside of the bathroom and parking was kinda a nightmare. If you leave the premises when you come back you may not have a parking spot. Luckily we got the last spot but it was a very, very tight squeeze.

Our stay at the Ocean Pacifc Lodge in Santa Cruz was alright. The room was large and check in was very smooth, even through we were arriving at midnight. The bed was a little stiff for my taste, and our room was across from the pool so it smelled very chlorine-y like the pool in our room which wasn’t ideal. But we did really appreciate the location, and its accessibility to the ocean and pier, as well as the free parking.

Almost everything was very good or excellent. Spotless and comfortable room, fine mattress on bed. The refrigerator in the first room #119 was very loud and I moved to another room. But pool and hot tub were open from only 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. so I was not able to use them. And the internet connection was very slow. Friendly and efficent reception staff were excellent.

Its a nice place to stay in when you are visiting and need to stay overnight last minute.

Rooms are dirty, they are not vacuumed behind beds etc its nasty. Anyway waz given 206, after having to insist on a new room, the guy working there really tried to say this has NEVER happened before. I found one dead one and larvae/babies. Returned to desk, staff then showed me a list of some kind that were treated for this and said they had treated them and begged me to try another room. I asked for a refund and instead he collected from expedia and cancelled my reservation and won’t answer phone. I panicked and didn’t take pics, take a chance if you want. I have zero reason to lie. This ruined my birthday trip. I barely had enough to find new lodging. He was fakely apologetic and lied about helping me get my money back from expedia because he took it. The place needs to be tented. Worse than lice. No breakfast, pools not heated and customer service person essentially lied and took my money.

We could hear the people in the rooms next to us all night. Plus the people in the hot tub right by the window. Needless to say, no one got any sleep. Also there is NO shampoo and conditioner.

There was only one chair in the room, and when I asked the front desk for an extra one, they told me none were available. Also, the water pressure in the shower was very low, which made showering really uncomfortable and unsatisfying.

Room 117 is next to laundry and extremely loud at 7am, yelling, carts rolling, laundry banging. not a place to sleep in. but you're here for the waves nearby?!

The staff was wonderful and friendly. The rooms are nice and clean. The walls are a little thin so you can hear your neighbors, and outside however they provide earplugs if needed. It is very quiet at night. We enjoyed our stay.

We had a ground floor double queen bed room. The room was clean, had awesome shower head water pressure, comfy mattress, and a hot tub! There were a few minor nicks on the paint on the wall/furniture, but when it comes to what matters, our stay was everything we needed and wanted!

They want to nickel and dime you for everything. Do you want to check in an hour early? That’s $20, you don’t return your cheap parking pass that’s $20. The hotel was very loud. The walls are paper thin there was drywall and paint coming off the wall in the bathroom. I would never stay here again.

Well, the 12:30am knock next door from the Santa Cruz Poloice Department to vacate the property was awakening and another hour of sleep lost, then, the 6am room alarm clock went off that I did not program, but, other than that the stay was good. I have stayed here before and no problems. The staff is great, location is great, hope for some compensation? Best, Mr. Duncan

Room quality was low, bed was uncomfortable, and the pet fee’s effectively doubled the nightly stay despite not requiring anything extra from the hotel.

It was great. I've been here a couple times and love it. The only thing I would suggest is more comfortable pillows. They are too stiff.

Yes the hot tub is hot enough and parking if you have one vehicle was good if you don't have only one vehicle and it's a nightmare you have to try to find 24-hour parking and there isn't any in the area.

You get what you pay for. Freezing pool, tiny hot tub. Stinky and not-cold in-room fridge. Gross, dirty lobby with nothing inviting about it. In-room chairs 100 yrs old and stiff. only redeeming quality is location to ocean.

Quiet and easy access from the wharf

This is my go to place for Santa Cruz. My dog and I are always at home there because it is such a good base camp to explore all of the wonders of the city.

Easy check in and parking. Staff is very kind and welcoming. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Great renovated showers!

Overall, the room itself was very nice. The location is excellent. The biggest negative is the PARKING. Twice there was no parking available in the back lots by the rooms and I had to ask the front desk where I could park. It was around 11 pm both times and both times the front desk staff person said, “I don’t get your issue. There is one parking space open behind you right next to that truck.” The space opened when we were speaking as someone was idling in that spot and then took off. There were only open spaces in the back lots where the rooms are after 8 am and before 7:15 pm movies at the local theaters end. These details make a trip successful. Great location, clean and well kept rooms but frequently no parking spaces available by the rooms.

Folks above us turned out to be construction crew. Noisy at 4am. Why would you put early waking folks on the third floor and us, a Vaca traveling family below is baffling. We would like a refund for that night. It sucked. But, next day they moved us to 316 - third floor, corner. And, that was great! Office was closed when I tried to get a towel at 6pm. That sucked too! Location was killer. Open air market with great breakfast burritos and coffee just across street. Lots of surfing just a five minute walk away, including the wharf. Not far from the boardwalk.

It is a perfect place to lay your head or two take a rest when go to Santa Cruz I went to drop my son for SCSU it was a nice front desk services it was comfortable bed and room we will come back again

The room was clean, the staff was very friendly, and the location was great (I specifically chose it because it's close to the beach but not directly on it, which cuts down on noise). The only complaint I have is that even though it was a non-smoking room, there was somehow a lingering smell of smoke.

Clean room, comfy bed & convenient outside bathroom area for dogs. Great little cafe/store across the street with excellent, freshly made food, coffee, snacks, etc. Very close to wharf, restaurants, boardwalk & beaches. We've stayed here several times since our sons attend UCSC.

One of my favorite hotels on this 13 day journey down the Best Coast. Two blocks up from the wharf, within easy walking distance to everything. As a solo female traveler, I felt very safe.Quiet big room, across from a soccer park. Plus, Santa Cruz is a great place, and being a college town just adds to the good feeling.

I loved the size and cleanliness and decor of the deluxe king room. It has 2 separated bedrooms with a large bathroom.

Only one hot tub worked, the one hidden in the corner, staff assured us both worked, not so. At check in no one was there, we had to come back an hour later.

Noisy. Not quite almost 400.00 worth for one night. Had a nose strip stuck on the blinds. A/C didn’t work properly, windows were stuck and difficult to open. Bed was really hard and had stains on covers.

The people were really nice when checking in. The only negative thing i would say about the hotel is the rooms need updating. The hotel is a short walk to the Board walk very nice and convenient. There are people at the Board walk taking you to your hotel by bike taxi if you would like, if you are close by.

Very noisy room

Entering the room it had a musty, moldy smell. Bathroom floor still had hair from another person on it. Front door had no safety lock. Water damage to the walls (probably what I was smelling). The worst part of the stay was this is a VERY loud hotel. The guests above me or next to me were partying well after 1am. I called down to the front desk twice and still didn’t hear them stop banging until after 3am. The front desk was rude on the phone like I was making it up! This hotel is VERY overpriced for what you get. I will not stay here again and I do not recommend it.

Room in horrible condition. Safety lock missing on door. Entire bathtub cracking and peeling. Outside elevator and hallway area dirty and worn out. Stayed for 10 minutes and then left to find another hotel. Still waiting on email response regarding a refund. Front desk agreed.

Once again, we had a wonderful day at the ocean Pacific Lodge! We really like the owners, they’re very lovely people. The bed is comfortable the room is clean, it’s in a great location and the parking is free.

Nice hotel in north Santa Cruz. Room was clean and comfortable but in need of updates/repairs. Shutter were broken and furniture warm and damaged. We were just there for a quick stay but would stay again if not looking for something closer to the water.

It was just an overnight trip. The room was a little small for the four of us. And they could use new pillows. Other than that it was very clean. Great location friendly staff. Quick check-in and out. And the pool is only heated to 75°

Room was clean and comfortable. The double shower head was a nice touch. The huge downside is that you hear booms and bangs whenever anyone walks up the stairs or moves around, period. Thankfully, there wasn't much activity after 10 so I was able to get decent sleep, but I would not return and take the risk of being subject to that awful noise. The management provide ear plugs and sleepy tea so that's an indication they know noise from common movement is a huge problem. It was very close to everything and that was a bonus.

I always had a good room on the second floor. This time, I had a room on the first floor (ground level), which was very disappointing. The floor is worn out, and the sink was dirty with long hair in it. The WiFi and TV reception were poor and almost non-existent.

This is a great place to stay in Santa Cruz. Close to the boardwalk and the wharf/pier, easy access to downtown, rooms are clean with comfortable beds, plenty of free parking, and the owners/staff were great. We lived in SC for a decade, wife went to UCSC, so we know the sneaky secret spots and locals-only intel, and this place is a low-profile gem. It isn't fancy and it isn't a "resort" - it's a clean, affordable place to stay in a great location.

Was very disappointed to learn that the rooms do not have air conditioning. there was what looked like an air conditioner in the room. It was not an air conditioner but just a fan system to blow in outside air.

I’ve stayed here before and the rooms are definitely getting old. Bathroom really needs updating. But it was still acceptable for one night. Both ladies in the office for check-in and out were so kind and friendly. Great spot and good value. I’d stay here again even though it’s rather old.

It's an old place and the wear and tare was noticeable. And, it was clean, the staff were friendly and the location was ideal for me.

The hotel is carpeted and smells bad

The service was nice, our A/C, bed, and shower were all great. It was very quiet at night. The close location to Wharf and Downtown eats is great. We had a top floor corner room, which we hoped for. But I think we were too far from the router, our internet was awful. Also they bizarrely had an ashtray right in front of our window, so we dealt with smoke and smokers frequently.

Excellent location!

The hot tub closed at 9pm on a Friday. Since my stay was over the weekend, I would have appreciated if hot tub area would have been open until 10pm. Also, there was no shampoo or conditioner or bath wash in the room.

Short stay worth its value

It’s older, but it’s clean and a quick walk to the wharf. Walls are thin, but it was quiet at night. This is our second time staying here.

Wife and I were there for Ironman event, with central IM Village directly across the street. So location was perfect for our trip. Owners were very nice and helpful, and general condition of this older hotel was quite good: updated and tasteful. Pool and 2 hot tubs were nice bonus, but bedding and towels just average. Although we had room on pool level, it was quiet in evenings. Room service was spotty--had to get our own fresh towels most days. Was disappointed that there was no form of breakfast--continental or even coffee in the lobby. On plus side, close walking distance to beachfront and pier, many restaurants and cafes, so food was just a short distance away. Overall a C+ with reasonable rates given location.

Bathroom needed to be refurbished. Bathtub had rust in it.

Room and such were adequate and seemed clean, but the window was absolutely filthy. Couldn't even see out of it.

Easy front desk check in and out

The host property was non-responsive when we cancelled our stay more than 24hr before check-in. We had to forfeit 1 nights stay, and never got an explanation regarding the additional charge, even though the policy was a full refund if cancelled 1 day prior to check-in.

Stayed here to race Ironman and it’s the most convenient location next to the start. It’s not fancy or the nicest rooms but it did the job. Will stay here again for next years race.

It's in a great location. A couple of blocks from the beach. The plumbing is terrible. You can hear people flushing the toilets and turning on the showers.

Overall the hotel feels a bit rundown and dated, don’t think it’s been touched much since the 90s minus the headboards. There’s nothing luxurious about this hotel at all but it’s mostly clean however the carpets were questionable. The elevator and our rooms smelled musty, mostly due to dirty AC units. We were told we could change rooms but I didn’t feel like dealing with this on our short vacation and I wasn’t sure the other rooms would be better. They offered us a can of ozium and that helped a bit. The deluxe rooms have a desk in the bedroom but only one of the front rooms in the two units we occupied had a single chair. A small table and two chairs would be nice in case you want to eat in your room. We needed the deluxe rooms to meet our needs but if I wasn’t traveling with family, I would choose a nicer hotel.

The staff was friendly, the room was clean, and the hot tub was hot. :)

Great spot for a reasonable price. You can easily walk to the beach or downtown. The pool and hot tubs were also great. For a small motel the pool area had an almost resort like feel. Our two kids loved it. We will be be back.

Place was clean when arrived. Check in was quick and easy friendly staffs also showed a map which made it easier to locate our room. During the stay the place was comfy and quiet at night and rarely heard foot traffic out the door. Slept very well. Check out was quick and easy no more than 2 minutes. Overall great stay and definitely my go to place from now on

Close proximity to beach, Wharf, shopping, and dining. Room adjacent to us was a bit noisy after 10pm, other than that it was a nice stay.

The room was clean and the bed was comfy. The walls were thin and I could hear music and stomps pass midnight from the room above mine.

Suggest having bottles of water and sundries for sale in the lobby. Again, the location is great and we enjoyed the beach.

This was a last minute stay with our grandkids after spending the day at the beach. It didn’t disappoint and now our future trips will include a stay at this hotel. Location was perfect, the staff friendly and the room was very comfortable!

It was a very nice place, stay and staff and close to boardwalk. I am tainted by my opinion because my grandson age 15yrs.forgot his expensive toy there and we are not getting the results we hoped for.

Property was nice . Room could have much nicer for the money . Walls are paper thin . Staff was nice but not super friendly .

We were told by the staff that only one vehicle could park for free in their lot. They informed us that there was plenty of parking across the street. This was a pay for parking lot that was available until midnight daily. They did not make us aware that a very large event, starting at 6am, would be happening there the next morning. I am certain they should have known of this triathlon and made us aware of the street closures, no parking, and the early noise! We did not see any signage about the event or parking situation so i parking there ar the advice of the hotel our daughter's car got towed. It took many phone calls to figure out where it was taken and $1200 later we got the car back. In mentioning the situation to the hotel staff and manager they were not helpful or compassionate. The attitude was uncaring and not my problem. It was very disconcerting to say the least.

The room seemed like it was a closet at one point that had been converted. The hardwood floors were dirty upon arrival and the bathroom (shower) could use some major TLC… on a positive note, check-in was very pleasant. The employee behind the desk was welcoming and helpful. Also, downtown and the boardwalk were within short walking distance which was a big convenience.

Only cons are the parking lot is very tight. I always found a space but it often took some maneuvering to get into. I drive a Rogue. And the vending machine was out of water. Otherwise perfect stay. We will definitely stay here again! Its not fancy. Have appropriate expectations and you'll enjoy your stay. Ritz quality customer service especially at the front desk. Thank you so much for making our vacation comfortable, convenient and fun!

Walking to wharf and boardwalk

Great location. Can walk to the Boardwalk or downtown. A little noisy but quiet after 10pm. I'd stay here again.

Room was clean. We got a room with a jetted tube but didn’t use it. It looked old and we weren’t supposed to use it past 10 pm. Pool/hot tub was nice. Hotel was close to boardwalk

Great place for our family.

The hotel was very clean and our king room was plenty large. The bed was so-so and the pillows like rocks. I did not sleep well. The people working there were very pleasant and we were able to park our car free. Dogs can stay for an extra $30 each, which is about average. It was fine for one night, but not longer.

Walkable to the Boardwalk

The pool was nice. Not much room in room. Only desk to sit at any then you couldn’t get by bed if anyone was sitting at it. AC was ok. Top shelf in refrigerator froze every thing. Shower nice. Beds were ok.

Overall great place and great location. We were able to walk most places we wanted to go and the hotel provided a list of good near by options for food.

My room was clean plenty of free parking. We got into town a little early to enjoy the beach. The staff let me park there before I checked in. about one block from Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, which was very convenient.

Great location with all the basic amenities included. If you’re looking for 5 star luxury you won’t find it here. If you’re looking for a great location that’s walkable to the boardwalk, beach, downtown etc this is the spot.
