Motel 6 Santa Cruz, CA

i booked for a week and not once was my room serviced, fresh towels or trash taken. The room smelled like smoke, smoke alarm was disabled and beds were so uncomfortable. I will never stay there again.

The price was good but the room wasn’t great. There were literal dirt stains on the bathroom door, and I didn’t trust the shower. The AC was good and cold, but only went to 61 (still hot af in the room bc it was summer) and we had to turn it off before bed because we were getting congested. We wondered if there might be dust or even mold in the room. The TV had cable, but we couldn’t use any of the apps that were offered (Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, HBO, etc. I tried to use my own Google Chromecast to watch movies/shows, but the TV had too many locks and restrictions so we were stuck with cable which sucked!). EVERY light in the room are those blue/white LEDs so they’re super harsh and not relaxing. The beds have weird metal frames that make HELLA noise any time you sit or touch any part of the bed. DO NOT try to hook up in these beds if you care at all about your neighbors lol. The check in/out staff were cool af, they made up for the basic ass room. Next time I’ll be staying closer to the beach, or at the Hampton down the street

I've stayed in better motel 6 for cheaper. Other then pricing and cleanliness, over all it was ok. Nice and quiet. Small areas for parking spaces (limited).

Room was prepaid through Expedia. Called the front desk several times while driving beginning at 11pm the night of check in to let them know I would be arriving around 3 am and they never answered the phone. When I arrived no one would come to the front desk or answer the phone still. I then called Expedia who informed me they're checking cut off time is 3:00 a.m. Forst of all...Motel 6 advertises rooms available 24/7 which is why I chose that particular hotel knowing I would be arriving late. Second... I've been employed as a hotel night auditor and I always called guests with reservations that had not arrived yet prior to closing the day but apparently the practice of good customer service has nearly phased out completely since Expedia refused to refund my money so I paid for a room that I didn't get to stay in however the Motel 6 in Watsonville was happy to accommodate me at 3:30 in the morning.

Bathoom had pubic hairs stuck to the wall, obvious mold all over (with blistering paint), water running down the bathroom wall from 2nd floor, dirty towels, heater broken.

Our reservation was canceled due to arriving late at night and sitting in traffic for 9 hours. I excepted a full refund. The website said Motel 6 is open 24/7.

The room was supposed to be a non-smoking room and it smelled like someone had smoke there a couple or hours before, while also smelling like someone hadn’t showered for days.

I love this motel

Room was clean and updated. Service was great. I only stayed one night to attend a local music event. Not a place I'd bring a lady but fir a guy, no sweat. The surrounding area us a bit sketchy after dark. My stay was fine.

Dirty floor, sheets, chair, towels, faulty AC

This one had bloody finger prints on the inside of the door and the water smelled so weird I made it a point to get bottled water. The room next to us blast at the TV all night and the guy working the desk couldn’t be bothered to say a single word to me when I checked in. That brief glimpse was the only staff I saw in my two nights stay, and no, no one cleaned up our room after the first night. I hesitated to write a review because I don’t wanna hurt Small Business owners and I know that Motel 6 locations are franchises, but this was something that other travelers should know about. I was bummed I wasted my Expedia points on it.

Basic motel. Door was difficult to open due to damage to frame. No bulbs in bedside lamp. Smoke alarm smashed Reported but nothing done in a week. Lots of homeless in the area

It’s ok all around

Everything was cool. The pillows are kinda not really pillows. I reccomend bringing one if you are particular about pillows. Owners were friendly. Which is not common in santa cruz.

Property was covered in trash there is no parking and only one way in one way out people were living there long term and getting evicted screaming and causing a huge scene a lot of strung out people drug activity not didn't feel safe even having my 13 year old son out of the room every was ether broken in the room stained or ripped the gentleman and the front desk was very nice and respectful

It was clean but noise with homeless people yelling on the streets the in the wee hours of the morning woke us up. Host was very courteous. The room we were in could use a fresh coat of paint but everything else was clean.

Room didn't look like it had been swept or wiped . Pillows and blankets were paper thin. A/c fan didn't work. Zero parking. Only positive thing about room is pet friendly.

This was a very clean room and they had just done improvements on the location and the room. Only thing that was bad was our room did not have shampoo or conditioner and per other guests asking at the front office they did not have any either. The one gentleman was told at 0715 am that he would have to wait til 0900 to get shampoo. I walked the couple blocks down the road and bought some at the gas station.

I wouldn’t recommend this place. We got it for a good price but it was still not the best stay. I didn’t feel safe. The rooms smelled of smoke / weed. There seemed to be a homeless community using the car park - I wasn’t threatened but it didn’t make me feel safe with my family. The door didn’t shut properly and I’m not sure the windows did either. It was noisy. The floor was filthy and the bedding wasn’t clean. Dated and uncared for. Choose somewhere else.

First and foremost the cleaning staff (Ladies) were very nice and polite. Parking on the other hand was very limited and ppl were double parked. I know it's out of their control, but ppl were very inconsiderate being noisy at night, along with the issues of the homeless being on grounds.

The guy who helped me checked in was very nice and friendly. The place is 2 miles away from UCSC. Very convenient to the everything but Im also very disappointed with it's cleanliness. I am not a picky person but this time I drew the line. The restroom looks clean but if you look at the details. It needs a lot of scrubbing and dusting. I had to strip the beddings when I left coz I dont want them to put them back for the next guest. There's hair on the white linen and pillows ( human and pet's, I supposed 'coz they're tiny ones). Good thing I always bring my own bedsheet, pillowcases and sanitizing spray. The room is ok but it needs thorough vacuuming as it has crumbs on the floor. I will never book myself at this place again. I go to Santa Cruz atleast 5x a year to visit my daughter and I have never had a situation like this. I did not complain or asked for another room as they are fully booked, it's move out week for the students of UCSC and all hotels are booked unless you want to pay for expensive ones. For the price I payed for this stay, I could've stayed at Holiday Inn, if only it's not a busy week.

I went to the front desk to ask for clening towels no one was there to assist..by luck saw the lady the cleans at later time she took care of it but not at the time i need it

The location was great. The price was kinda high considering the rooms and amenities. The pictures definitely over sold the room. It seems as if they’re renovating slowly and in a shoty fashion. We found better rooms for cheaper after our first night.

Beds are comfy, AC works well, mini-fridge and microwave worked fine too. Check-in is through a window, no lobby access. Hard to hear the guy. Overall it's fine enough and the price is right for Santa Cruz.

Room hadn't been cleaned in months. Hairs on the sheets, dirt on the floor and under the bed. Unsafe feeling, we were almost hit by an intoxicated driver in the hotel yard and then almost attacked by their dog. Hotel charges $50 deposit. We wanted to cancel upon arrival but the clerk didn't let us cancel the reservation.

Transients living on parking lot. Parking lot was filled with trash. Office staff keeps doors closed AT ALL TIMES. inconvenient for people. Trash was outside of room when arriving. Parking is limited for number of rooms. Room floors had lots of hair from pervious guest. Bugs in room , and shower had mildew.

The management and the place was rude and dirty.

This hotel was horrible. Towels were dirty and stained, Blood on the wall, sheets looked unclean,burn holes in bed sheet covers, shower was filthy. We spend our money as well as trusting that we will be provided with a clean and sanitary room. When the company fails this and says we’re not able to be refunded it is extremely unfair!!! I did not stay the night immediately booked somewhere else and glad I did.

My reservation was cancelled. They had a room but it was disconcerting that I was not notified.

Every room smelled like cigarettes or just rancid. Super dirty rooms: air conditioning did not work.

Dogs in other rooms barking nonstop, can hear everything from nextdoor rooms. Stains on bedding, cleaning products left in bathroom. Large hole in bathroom wall to outside covered with piece of wood. Staff was extremely nice, check in and check out super easy.

Nothing unique, stair to the second floor is not safe, slippery when wet, no shampoo available.

The sheets where filthy towels looked like they were never washed after the previous user. Tv wouldn’t work called the front desk to ask why it won’t and they had no reason. Very very unsatisfactory and would never stay here or any motel 6 ever again

Too small had two beds in there for two people no room to walk three steps to get into the door free handicap forget about it beds are too high no closet hang your clothes up I've been to motel 6 before they always had a closet they need to do away with the steps

Awful stay. Bugs crawling on walls and our things. Will never stay here again. Had to book another place for the rest of our stay.

Registration was easy and man super helpful and friendly.

They charged a refundable deposit, which Expedia did not mention at time of booking. Exterior was old, area was questionable such that it appeared there were unhoused ppl staying there. 2 SC Police officers arrived at some point and were speaking to other motel guests. Room was TINY. Bed was comfortable, but sheets and towels looked dirty/dingy. Would not stay here again.

Clean and convinient

Much better than expected. Nice large walk-in shower and new bathroom. Clean remodel done with quality. Comfortable mattress larger of mini refrigerator with separate freezer. Beside the narrow layout of the structure n parking lot of an old school motel extra parking in the rear.

The property was dirty, tweakers everywhere. There was a dirty syringe on the ground my dog almost stepped on it. Told the owner and he dis nothing about it. Didn't even try and pic it up. Stayed there sll hole trip. Room was also very dirty. We had to do are own cleaning to feel comfortable. Will never say at this location or recommend to anyone

No coffee in the morning

The expedia page says "Coffee and tea in common areas". There was no coffee, and the common area was locked. No one was there when I checked out at 8:30 AM and needed to ask about my deposit. That doesn't qualify as a "24-hour front desk". Also, there was no mention about a $50 deposit other than a handwritten note taped to the glass which I didn't notice until after the card had been authorized.

Our room was dirty. Food and stuff all on the floor. The shower had mud/sand in it. They was a big bag of trash left just outside our door for a vast majority of the day. We did ask them to come in and clean the room, they never did. I will NEVER return or recommend this location

The place was quiet, and the bed was comfortable. The cleanliness is what I wasn’t happy about, the floors, walls, and bathroom were dirty. If the cleanliness was better I would have given it a good rating.

Parking is very tight. Bring your own shampoo they dont provide any. Pillows are trash, bring your own.

Room 108, 2 queen beds, a mini fridge, a mini microwave, tv, front door closes but has an opening on the bottom which “can” allow bugs crawl in. Bathroom was clean and simple: shower has excellent/strong water pressure, I took my own towels, used hotel towels for the floor. Basic room to shower, sleep and s..t. Parking is tight, you want to arrive early. It’s 1.5 miles to the boardwalk, a 34 minute walk each way on flip flops.

Terrible place, no ac, no extra pillows and provided some flat and small pillows. Very insecure and sketchy. Attendant did provide 1 fan due to AC malfunction for 4 adults 4 kids. Rm 122 and 123. Small Hard to park lot.. never again... I payed too much for these rooms honestly. Id like my money back.

I recommend staying here for short stays or trying to budget, It was clean for the most part though the bathroom floor was a bit dirty/dusty but nothing major. The wifi was a bit slow at times but overall this was definitely a great deal and I would stay here again for the price. If you're looking for something cheap but worth the money I would stay here it was a nice stay.

Writing this at midnight because I can't sleep! Bright lights on outside windows at night. Loud conversations, dogs barking, motorcycles, loud trucks next to door all night. Bed hard as a rock, it feels like a playpen floor. Office smells like raw onions...lots of displaced and homeless people.

This was OK. Wifi was awful (over all 3 days). Wouldn’t have stayed there if we’d known that. I thought there was a photo of a small pool when we booked it, but there was no pool.

Reserved room one week in Advance with the knowledge that what was in their reservation with the pricing that was $125 would be what I will be paying at check in. Instead they jack up the rate to more than $400.I told them that they should have emailed me of the changes so I could booked someplace cheaper. They could not show me the email they said was sent to me . This is what I would call customer baiting. I wouldn’t recommend this place to any one

The parking was ok. But Once we left and returned other people got our parking space in-front of our room where we were staying it was very inconvenient of not being able to park in front of our room…

Not the best area but a clean hotel room with a microwave and mini fridge. The shower is large which is nice. I wish they had shampoo and conditioner. One of the bath towels was stained but overall for one night not bad at all.

What Hotels.com said I'd be charged at the motel was not the price. It was about $10 more. I paid cash and did not get a receipt. The door was not fitted right. Huge gap around it, where you could clearly see daylight. Toilet wasn't secured and rocked when sat upon, as well as the toilet seat. Seems like shoddy workmanship. While they are a pet friendly motel, which is the #1 reason why I stay at Motel 6, there wasn't anywhere for her to go potty. I had to walk down the road.

Overall my room was spacious and the staff was nice. Convenient location. There was no coffee maker, iron, shampoo or hairdryer included. My sheet had burn holes and possibly blood stains on it. The staff member said he would address it when I complained.

I knew it wasn't the best but there were just too much noise. Higher quality windows would have helped. No comfort. It's a place where you go to sleep and get out.

You get what you pay for. If you can spare spending some extra money on a better place, do it. Otherwise, it’s a place to lay your head at night, but don’t forget to bring an extra pillow. Location is fabulous. My biggest complaint was that our room smelled very intensely of some sanitation type product. It was very off-putting.

The parking lot is super small and tight. One long truck will block it so you can not get in or out of the lot.

Check in counter person was very blah - no personality, no smile, no acknowledgment when I walked, No I’ll be with you right after I help this gentleman, no how’s your day going or anything. Gave him my ID checked me in gave me my room key. Good size room. Top sheet had some spotted stains. Pillows have no cushion completely flat. Shower head spray had water coming out with strength but a lot of water was still coming out from the bottom spout wasting a lot of water. No towel rug when u get out of the shower we had give up a hand towel for it so we wouldn’t slip getting out while drying ourselves. Room smelled of A LOT and I mean A LOT of either a cleaning smell or smelling spray to mask a smell in the room. My noise was irritated right when I opened the door as it hits you right in the face! They need to open and air out the rooms after cleaning. Side table tops are not part of the table it’s just a piece added on so u need to make sure it doesn’t fall off and drop on your feet. The bottom of the bed frame is a thin metal so when you accidentally hit it with your feet it sounds like loud thunder! The minimalist ceiling light is super bright it’s like one of those lights in Vegas they have for you to stay awake to keep you gambling. We had to turn off the room light and turn the bathroom light on instead. Lighting here was not relaxing. Up side room included a mini fridge and microwave

This place was spectacular. The staff here from management to maintenance were absolutely fantastic. It was very clean, being rebuilt, and more important it is pet friendly. I will look forward to my next stay…

When we got to our room as soon as we opened the door it smelled like cigarettes really bad. We left to the beach and window cracked open but did not help we were from out of state and it was already booked and late to move elsewhere. Me and my child couldn’t not sleep the pillows and bed smelled so bad like cigarettes and they had satins, we slept with our beach towels on the bed.

We where appealed to stay here because of a pet friendly place and its closeness to the ocean, however it is a place to sleep and nothing more. No views or nice stores. Booking dot com is a great website. if things go wrong make sure to take a picture or 2. Mold all over the first room we booked. in the second location we found 2 dead bugs, second room also had mold around the door jams. In our booking reservation we mentioned dogs, however they did not care nor where directly informed so they charged us a 75$ pet fee, which is normally a 30$ pet fee per night. Photo of the bug was uploaded to this review as I will upload the photo of the mold to our other hotel reservation review.
