Reviews
The hotel is generally praised for its proximity to the boardwalk and beach, as well as its cleanliness and friendly staff. However, there are consistent complaints about the lack of parking and the small size of the pool. Some guests also mention issues with breakfast and the condition of the rooms.

Beds are horrific. Staff is late to open office in morning. Room smells. Pool is dirty. Pics on website are not honest. Avoid this place.

The rooms were too tight, and small. has to squeeze through by the bed to get to the bathroom and sick area. Bed was comfy, but then pillows were lumpy and just to soft for my comfort. When we pull back the sheets to get ready for bed, there were what looked like either blood stains or coffee stains, not really sure, but where the stains were, it most likely was blood. And when we left for the day, we didn't leave the sing on the door, so we could get maid service, but it look like she just refolded the same towels and put them back on the towel rack and she didn't empty the trash or make the bed. so yeah. but the positive side is it was like 5 mins. t the board walk and beach. Their breakfast wasn't that great, we ate waffles the whole time and coffee. the eggs were not good, and at times the sausage wasn't cooked all the way. and their juice dispenser was down, so no milk or juice. But they did have cereal, with no milk. they had yogurts and fruit I guess, but we never saw any fruit and toasts, one type of bread only. So for the price we paid , was to expensive and not worth that much. We paid $589 for two days.

Location I requested a handicap room. My wife has off the Royal and typical for her to walk upstairs. I was told by management that the request I put in through booking.com was never sent to them.
- 4/5
Very close to the boardwalk I wish there was a hot tub. It would have felt good after spending all day at the boardwalk. But the kids enjoyed the pool

I really liked the friendliness of the staff; the location of the place is perfect.
- 3/5
Swimming pool is super small. It’s really only for little kids. Breakfast is okay. Simple and easy to just eat and go. Not much variety. Walking distance to the beach, it’s very convenient.
- 5/5
I did not stay for the breakfast but the eating area was clean. The bed was very comfortable and the staff was very nice
- 5/5
Super close location to the boardwalk and super friend staff named Kirti made everyone feel welcoming. Rooms are clean and decent. Breakfast was simple and decent.
- 3/5
We were met by a friendly manager during our late check in, but this definitely overall felt like a very cheap hotel experience (TBH saving money was the priority when we booked). We would not stay here again. The beds were very comfortable and clean, but the security lock on the door was broken off, and worst of all, there was debris in the toilet water. Every time we flushed, something would appear in the water, no matter how many times we tried to clear it--including an actual small, live worm. In all the years I've traveled, even to third world places, I've never had a worm in the water. The person at the desk I reported it to did not seem concerned and just said he would tell the manager, and "maybe something is happening with the line." The location is good, near a great Mexican restaurant, & the boardwalk is 3 blocks away, but the photos make it look way nicer than it is.

Good location and clean room. Very modernized! Good continental breakfast...waffles and sausages! Will come back!
- 3/5
Breakfast was as expected the first day. Our second day they did not serve breakfast at the stated time, we were leaving in the morning and missed breakfast due to it not opening at least 20 minutes (maybe more) late. In room coffee was not replenished for our second day, so we did not have access to coffee either. Location near boardwalk and downtown was great.

Está muy bien y cerca de la playa me gustó.

- 5/5
Room was clean, breakfast was decent and it was a very short walk to the Boardwalk
- 3/5
Not the best neighbors (other guests).
- 5/5
Excellent location close to the beach, Boardwalk and Downtown Santa Cruz, local restaurants, great housekeeping because the room was spotless, comfy beds and in good condition, had a coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave, property well maintained and quiet, simple but ample options for free breakfast, staff was friendly and helpful, rates were reasonable for our weekend stay, would stay here again and highly recommend!
- 3/5
Walls are thin. We could hear people on the other side. Our heater broke on the 1st night there. Shower and sink didn’t drain well.
- 5/5
friendly staff and very helpful. shops within walking distance. i would definitely go back there again!
- 4/5
Right next to the boardwalk, super convenient and close if you are vacationing for the boardwalk and beach and 5 minute driving to Santa Cruz downtown and metro center.

Excellent customer service by Comfort Inn staff.
- 4/5
It was affordable and so close to the boardwalk.
- 4/5
Room was decently clean, staff was very nice and accommodating, but breakfast is definitely lacking with no hot foods. Great place otherwise especially for the location.

- 5/5
Parking was very limited, but the room was clean, staff was very helpful and the breakfast provided was great!
- 4/5
you can hear your neighbors conversations clearly.
- 1/5
The room was super small, the photos on the website looked better than in reality, it smelled strongly of bleach, the hotel is in a central location but the hotel itself is terrible.
- 5/5
Breakfast has gone downhill. No eggs, no pastries besides tiny dry muffins
- 5/5
Great location to the Boardwalk. Only a few blocks from restaurants. Overall great choice.
- 4/5
Staff was friendly and room was clean!
- 4/5
The staffs are friendly and good service.
- 5/5
I would definitely go back. We've got there early and it was for anniversary. They acommated us and check us in early with no fees. The pool was closed but they opened it up for us. Love the management
- 3/5
Room was clean except for the fact we seen a lot of little hairs on the bed. The shower head was horrible .
- 4/5
One of the comforter was dirty.
- 5/5
The staff was amazing and the location is perfect to walk all around the Boardwalk and Wharf!!!
- 5/5
Room was spotless. Friendly desk clerk
- 2/5
We found hairs on the bed that were on the sheets and pillows, sand/dirt between the sheets, and the water in the tub wouldn't drain. The manager/front desk guy said he’d change our room but never did. The parking situation is terrible as well with very sparse areas to park. Thankfully we only stayed for one night. Never again!!
- 3/5
some sand on the floor. Light on left side of the bed did not work.
- 4/5
Front desk staff was friendly and it was easy to check-in. Parking was easy as well, our room was clean a bit small but doable. The only thing that we were disappointed about was the pool which was not open and we were looking forward to spending sometime enjoying the pool. But overall our stay was great!
- 5/5
Clean room, parking and great staff
- 5/5
We arrived after midnight, the staff were friendly and quick to get us to our room. Breakfast was hot and delicious. Limited parking.
- 4/5
The beds were really comfy and it was right next to the boardwalk.
- 1/5
Front desk staff rude. Our rooms were not cleaned properly. Also in the middle of the night my Tesla recorded someone trying to break into my car and did capture him opening someone else’s vehicle and stealing. I was also charged extra for a towel t used after going to the beach and they considered it damaged. This stay was not satisfactory.
- 5/5
The young man at the front desk was very patient and accommodating. The room was clean and comfy. We’ll definitely be back.
- 3/5
Clean but dated. Totally adequate.
- 5/5
Super clean! Free parking! Free Breakfast!
- 5/5
Clean room and property. Short walk to the boardwalk but virtually everything was closed.
- 5/5
The staff were nice. The lobby and room were clean. The size of the room was smaller than the picture depicted. It was quite noisy in the morning. The room was comfortable.
- 3/5
Close too everything!
- 5/5
They were very accommodating, friendly and very close to boardwalk
- 3/5
No elevator so hard to take luggage upstairs
- 5/5
Super close to the boardwalk and walkable.
- 2/5
The bed covers had blood stains. And the shower pressure was so mad it took for ever to shower it was jus like a drizzle.
- 1/5
Location was the only thing that was positive
- 5/5
Patel was very helpful and cool asf. Brekky was pretty good too. 😺 #kachow
- 4/5
Great location, close to Santa Monica beach. Roomy apartment, great for family.
- 4/5
The hotel was great for a one night stay. It's in a fabulous position - so close to the boardwalk.
- 2/5
Th are 6 of us in the family The room had 2 bath towels. We went to the front desk and asked for 4 more towels so we could all shower. The front desk attendant was rude and argued about us needing 4 more towels. Saying the room had enough for us. After trying to convince her to get 4 towels for afew mins. She grumply gave us 3!!! So my daughter and l had to share a towel! They were also "remodeling" rooms all around us. Taking up all the parking spaces infront of the rooms. We were told to park in the back. The parking was 2 cars deep, one behind the other. Well, thats fun when a stranger parks behind us, blocking us in. The front desk closes at 7pm! Which is supper convenient when you need help to discover which guest is parked behind you. So you and your family can head to dinner. Going door to door asking strangers if thats their car was alittle ridiculous! When booking, we were told we would be charged when we arrive. Well we were charged the full price when we booked. Oh well we moved on. When we arrived and checking in, l was asked for my card that was linked to the account. When asked why, because it was already charged. I was told it was to comfirm the card. The next morning l discovered $100 was charged without my permission on my account. We went to the front desk to ask about the charge. We were tolded that its a "security deposit, and if the room is left in the correct, we would get the full refund. And that all hotels do this"
- 4/5
But besides that everything was great!!
- 5/5
The staff are very nice and it is two blocks from the beach.
- 5/5
I enjoyed my stay! Very clean room and staff was very friendly and even let us check in early! Only downside was the parking and if you fail to get a spot you have to park in a alleyway behind. However, if you get a spot, its in a very walkable spot! 15 minutes away from downtown walking distance & 3 mins from boardwalk! Overall great, enjoyed it.
- 2/5
Don’t be fooled by the name Comfort Inn, it just a Motel 6 on the inside.
- 4/5
The room was very clean and comfortable. Within 5 min walking of the boardwalk. Free breakfast was simple, but good.
- 5/5
Fantastic!
- 3/5
While I enjoyed the quick walk to the boardwalk and yummy Mexican restaurant nearby, and the fact the beds were comfy, I still feel this isn’t going to be my top choice next time staying in Santa Cruz. I felt unimportant and unseen as a guest. If that means anything at all to you, I’d look into the place across the street for a bit more money.
- 5/5
Clean, simple, pride in management
- 4/5
The hotel was clean. The parking at the hotel is horrible. If you have a big car or truck, you won’t fit.
- 4/5
Very close to the beach and boardwalk which is why we chose it. VERY loud street noise and fireworks right behind the hotel. The pool is cold and so small they should take it out and add parking which is tight. The ice maker was not working. The breakfast is decent and the fridge in the room works well. The workers were nice. We chose it for location which is perfect.
- 3/5
Stay was OK. Liked breakfast. Close to Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
- 5/5
Convienenrnt clean
- 5/5
Loved how walkable it was to the boardwalk. I also loved how our room smelled fresh clean the whole stay.
- 2/5
Ok, I’m going to be honest, this place is ghetto, the pictures on the website are very deceiving. I wasn’t expecting a 5 star hotel but this place made me feel gross! They need to invest money in this place, update the paint job and the rooms, the restroom is so small that you can’t open the door all the way if you are sitting on the toilet. The parking is awful! If there are no more parking spaces in the parking lot, you have to park in the back of the alley and there are no windows for you to be able to check on your car. This place is owned and operated by foreigners, Indian people, and as most of us know, they don’t really care about the upkeep of their property. Ice machine was broken, so you had to get ice in the office, well they were scooping ice out of an ice chest. I was so grossed out by that, soda machine was also broken. The breakfast was also horrible, I left to Jack in the box, there was only waffles, boiled eggs, which someone had already peeled, gross! And a bunch of sausages! That was all, and the tables and chairs where you sit down to eat breakfast were dirty. The 2 gentlemen at the check in desk were very nice. This place just needs some upgrades. The rooms were clean but smelled like bleach. It just seems that whoever owns this property does not have any money to make improvements. Pay the extra money to stay at a better motel, if possible.
- 4/5
Quick walk to boardwalk, good location
- 5/5
Pleasant stay. Location was great as it was an easy walk to the boardwalk. My kids had a great time at the boardwalk. Breakfast was very good. Simple but had everything we needed. Room was clean and spacious. Enjoyed our 1 night stay.
- 3/5
The room wasn't very clean including the bathroom toilet
- 4/5
Nice propriaters
- 3/5
Very old property in a noisy area . The beds we’re not the most comfortable, but overall the motel was clean and in a great location if you’re looking to be close to the boardwalk. Good for the price.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly and close walking distance to the Boardwalk
- 5/5
Good for the one night I need it gor
- 4/5
It is nice.
- 5/5
Another fun family trip to The Boardwalk. We always stay at The Comfort Inn. Great price, close to the Boardwalk & very friendly, helpful staff!! We will be back soon with the grands!!!
- 3/5
The floor in our room wasnt clean, Our first nite there, I had on white socks and in a couple hours they were really dirty. The bathroom floor wasn't cleaned while we were there cause the hair from our grandaughter was still there after her showers. There was 4 of us and our room had 2 bath towels, we asked for more and were given 2 more. Each day we were left one hand towel for 4 of us. It was quiet, checkin was easy and the people behind the desk were really nice. This Comfort Inn wasn't up to the usual one's we've stayed at in the past.
- 4/5
Close to beach
- 5/5
Great place. Friendly staff. Clean room
- 3/5
Okay stay. Breakfast wasn't the best. The blinds for the room does not block out the light from outside so it feels like its bright all day even at 2am. Free Parking is a plus but it is very compact.
- 1/5
I was using the restroom and all the lights in power turned off, about 15 minutes but we had to get ready to leave and take showers so I went to the front office to ask and kindly said hi my power in the room is not working? And the worker immediately said “YEAH I KNOW I got a call saying it’ll be back on at 12” (which is AFTER I had to leave btw) and so after she so quickly responded harshly without even an apology for the inconvenience, I started asking for any sort of solution! And she was like “well open the windows” For one, I’m in my own private room, why would I want strangers to be able to see me, PLUS I needed to take a shower…. There’s no windows in the bathroom is there?? So I asked for a partial refund and she refused repeatedly and said “well I would have to talk to my manager about that but I can’t do that” and I said okay yeah let me talk to them!! And she wouldn’t let me do that either.. while we were still talking, the power went back on so I dropped it but I couldn’t believe how insanely rude she was from the start! And she said over and over again “it’s not my problem” yes it is your problem… I’m not paying $200 to sit in the dark and not be able to shower or do my makeup! I was so exhausted with such the terrible interaction I had with the worker
- 5/5
While it biggie on style and the roomb b
- 3/5
The owners were very nice. Room was clean but the bed was uncomfortable. The worst part was the lack of parking. We ended up having to park in a creepy alley behind the hotel. It’s walking distance to the Boardwalk though.
- 5/5
Had a Great time at this place.
- 5/5
Staff very courteous and accommodating, rooms were very clean. Good location. Everything we needed for an overnight stay in Santa Cruz. Walking distance to the KP Arena and downtown bars and restaurants. Would definitely stay here again. Not a fancy place but if you want a nice clean convenient place to stay near the Boardwalk and isn’t $300 a night then this is it.
- 4/5
Parking sucks
- 1/5
Llegue a la recepción y yo tenia mu reserva pagada y en recepción querian cobrar nuevamente

All was decent and clean. Staff was very cordial and accommodating.
- 2/5
Conveniently located but limited parking and extremely noisy.
- 2/5
Dirty ,no parking
- 4/5
Windows open the whole time. Front desk was rude.
- 5/5
The people at the inn is very night. Will go again for sure.
- 5/5
Good sense of humor
- 3/5
In the heart of Santa Cruz by boardwalk. Limited areas to eat, you have to walk, cycle, drive. Property is old and front desk open @ 7:30a, closes @ 9pm so no support after that on a Thurs night. Had some spring breakers at hotel so noisy at night when they got back from bar @ 3am. Managers try to maintain hotel but it’s used, several things out of order. Very basic. Room seemed clean, AC fan was noisy. Not worth more than $100/night.
- 4/5
Great rooms and clean
- 1/5
The refrigerator in our room was so nosy all night. The mattresses so stiff and the comforters looked so dirty and worn out. To top it off, no house keeper available the entire stay.
- 5/5
The breakfast was fantastic! I was very grateful for coffee and so many options. The waffle maker was a hit with my kids We loved Santa Cruz and will be back to stay here!
- 5/5
The managers/owners(?) are welcoming and accommodating. The property is not new but they keep it clean and maintained. The continental breakfast is pretty expanded even with waffles! We have stayed here twice and plan to request this hotel in the future.
- 4/5
This was a fantastic location. The staff was nice and the morning breakfast options were good. Only flaw for us was the window had shutters and no curtains so with the outside hall lights our room didn’t get very dark at night. Not a deal breaker for us. It still was pretty reasonable. We Would love to stay here again.
- 5/5
I had noisy neighbors but everything else was good. Clean, nice service
- 3/5
It was ok, but last on our 6 night trip of California
- 5/5
Very close to the boardwalk & downtown! Nice place to stay in :)
- 3/5
The rooms look nothing like those on-line. They are very small and crowded.
- 2/5
ROOM VERY SMALL, HAD TV ISSUES, LEFT TO DO OUR THING CAME BACK IN THE EVENING THE ROOM WAS NEVER CLEANED, HAD TO GO TO THE DESK AND INFORM THEM AND ASKED FOR CLEAMN TOWELS.
- 5/5
Everything was clean, customer service was great, the only thing comfort inn holds a $100 deposit on your debit card which I did not know until I checked in. I went thru Expedia maybe that's why I wasn't informed up front. But everything was good.
- 5/5
Right across Courtyard marriot. Nearby to broadwalk. Room space is good enough.
- 5/5
Less than 10 minutes walking distance to the boardwalk, beach and pier.
- 4/5
It was fine. Its just for little people. Room are small.
- 4/5
Walls a paper thin and you can hear your neighbors TV
- 5/5
Friendly staff
- 4/5
overall great experience, not fancy but it has all the basics. Staff is very friendly.
- 5/5
Clean room. Great location & breakfast was satisfying. What more could you want.
- 5/5
5 minute walk to the boardwalk, parking included was a major plus
- 3/5
Rooms could be a lot cleaner.
- 4/5
Nice place to visit the beach and these attractions.
- 5/5
The owners are so sweet and we go there every year if not twice a year... Everybody's there to have fun and if there's a little bit of noise we don't mind. Free breakfast and they always let us get a late check out at 12:00 it's 3 minute walk to the boardwalk and there's plenty of places to eat right by us. There is a karaoke bar inside of the bowling alley that only takes about 2 minutes to walk to. Right before you get to the boardwalk there's a little surf shop and everybody that works there is amazing and helpful.
- 4/5
Enjoyed staying here
- 5/5
So nice, friendly staff
- 1/5
Rooms smell like chemicals, especially bleach. It was so bad one member of our party got physically sick. We tried another room and it was the same. Perhaps others won't experience it but keep in mind even if it's not that strong the fumes are toxic and are not healthy for anyone to breath in. Pay a few bucks more and go elsewhere there is really nothing special about this place worth dealing with this. We left almost immediately.
- 4/5
Couple day stay. Very close to board walk. Good price. Comfortable room. Sink a little plugged. Friendly staff. Quiet and all around a good stay.
- 3/5
Location is Great 5min walk to board walk the room was decent water pressure wasn't the best but it got the job done.
- 5/5
We stayed only one night and it was great! I like that the shower pressure was great and that shower stayed hot! Plenty of room to walk around. Breakfast was hot waffles you make yourself, boiled eggs, and sausage, cold cereal and hot cereal packets. Juice, coffee and tea and bananas. I would definitely choose this place again. Oh forgot to mention the Boardwalk is within walking distance
- 5/5
Room was very clean, beds were comfortable, staff was super nice, and breakfast was the best I have ever had at any hotel.
- 5/5
Very good service and great customer service
- 4/5
Nice for the price
- 5/5
Loved the proximity to beach and boardwalk, and it was a nice quiet place to stay.
- 5/5
We have been coming to Comfort Inn Beach Boardwalk for years. Its the only place we will stay. Friendly helpful staff. Close to the pier & boardwalk. We were here fir the Chiki Cook-Off, see you soon for Santa at the Boardwalk!!
- 4/5
It's not a bad place to stay. Close to the boardwalk. Tight parking but beats daily valet parking at the better hotels. I wouldn't mind staying again.
- 3/5
Very easy and convenient for the location close to the boardwalk and easy breakfast for the kids but was very noisy at night and stained sheets
- 4/5
Overall it was a great stay for the price. Would definitely stay again and it was very close to the pier. Limited food options in the area but the free lobby breakfast was decent.
- 4/5
Decent rooms, great breakfast - tight parking though
- 1/5
The price went up once I got there and the beds were uncomfortable
- 5/5
Very convenient and safe location!
- 5/5
It was very close to the Boardwalk. Free parking was great. Staff was really nice. Overall I would stay there again.
- 5/5
Love that it’s walking distance from the boardwalk and restaurants
- 4/5
Good place with location close to boardwalk. They serve basic hot breakfast. Room is clean and my only complain is that the pillows does not smell fresh it smell like it has been used :(
- 5/5
Awesome customer service
- 4/5
Dropping off my son to UC SANTA CRUZ, we decided to crash one night here. I used at $100 gift card & credit card both . Hotels.com doesn’t let you add your one key points too , bummer. Check in was ok waiting like 2 minutes for someone to come to the desk. The lobby is teeny tiny, probably gets claustrophobic during free breakfast 7 am to 10 am. The stay is ok it has the bare necessities you need , walkable to boardwalk, free parking , free WiFi , fridge & microwave etc. The TV channels were horrible nothing to watch except old movies , food network or Sportscenter. Neighbors are Super 8, Brand new courtyard by Marriott across the street. We felt safe here. Parking has plenty of LED lights and every door to rooms has bright lights also. There is garbage cans everywhere. It can get kinda loud people coming in and out at wee hours of the night, understandable due to the tourists. Two place next door and 7-11 liquor stores nearby. Downtown SC is 1-2 miles away only! No real issues here to really complain about - oh yeah the faucet sink is outside the bathroom shower . The toilet flush is weird it flushes opposite and the hot cold turns for the faucet is reversed . Stayed in room #404 upstairs next to last from the corner. Room wasn’t that cold or hot perfect. The shutters on the window blocked the light about 90% I’d say. They have a do not disturb sign if you wish to use it. Hope this honest review helps! I might stay here again or stay someplace else similar. Paid like $230.
- 4/5
Small property but the rooms are quite spacious and updated. It’s tucked away from any tourist area which makes it quiet, but close enough to drive a short distance. I’d definitely stay here again.
