Reviews
The hotel received mixed reviews with guests praising the cleanliness of rooms, comfortable beds, and friendly staff. However, there were several complaints about the breakfast service, noise levels, and issues with room keys. Some guests also expressed concerns about the location and safety of the area.
- Clean rooms
- Comfortable beds
- Breakfast service issues
- Noise levels
- 5/5
Breakfast was great and so was parking.
- 5/5
Other than parking, parking is a little tight, the rooms are great. We stay at this Best Western whenever we visit the Santa Cruz area.
- 5/5
Room was clean and newly remodeled. Our only issue was the tiny bathroom and low shower. Otherwise, staff was friendly. Breakfast was nice, and free parking is always a bonus!
- 4/5
Staff excellent, room was clean, good breakfast and better coffee, parking was great. Overall it’s a very good place to stay. I need a first level room because medical reasons and always get it.
- 4/5
The location is convenient and close to the main road, making it easy to get around Santa Cruz and nearby attractions. Parking is somewhat limited, so it may take a little extra time to find a spot depending on when you arrive. The only other downside is that because the hotel is located on a major road, you can hear vehicle noise early in the morning. Other than that, it was a solid stay and I would consider staying here again.
- 4/5
Clean room easy parking
- 4/5
Staff was super friendly.
- 4/5
Always a nice stay.
- 3/5
The location was good. The hotel is dingy, the room did not seem clean. I found a long black hair on top of the sheet under the blanket. I have blonde hair. That was pretty gross. But I do think the sheets were clean, I think it just happened when housekeeping was making the bed.
- 3/5
Walkable to downtown: restaurants and shopping. A good basic place to stay and I would again.
- 5/5
the breakfast was very good, loved the waffles There was no hand soap, we had to ask for shampoo and conditioner bottles.
- 0.5/5
They canceled our room with no notice.
- 5/5
We would stay here again. The rooms are super Clean, the location is right of the high way but it’s quiet, the location is a 30 minute walk to the boardwalk; 5 minutes if you drive. they have private parking. Also, we really enjoyed the complementary breakfast especially the waffles, nothing fancy but enough not to have to go elsewhere and spend money.
- 4/5
I booked for 2 days with my daughter. Breakfast was offered from 6am-9am, however , I was still allowed to get coffee and some fruit as I checked out at 1030am. Staff were nice and polite and helpful. The receptionist that was on duty when I checked in was able to accommodate me to another room as my room was towards the front and I felt was too noisy. She was kind enough to change my room with no problem. Great stay!
- 1/5
For the love of everything civil do not pay $279 for this run down motel. They did let me check in early for $30 but that’s the best I can say.
- 4/5
You have to ask if you want your room attended to on a multi day stay. WiFi was weak and Verizon cell service barely there. (Don’t expect to stream a movie.) Breakfast was decent. Getting in and out of the parking area was tricky as it’s on a street that becomes the on-ramp for the highway.
- 4/5
Simple, no frills, perfectly fine. It was very clean, the towels were soft even if there were only 2 sets for a 4 person reservation, the front desk clerk was nice. Free parking, free wifi, and a decent free breakfast. Not fancy but good in all the basics
- 1/5
Terrible
- 4/5
The price and the availability.
- 5/5
Clean room, friendly staff
- 5/5
Room was clean. We basically showered, slept, and left. Thank you.
- 3/5
There are some things that I did not like that I would rather not say but best Western is aware of my complaints. I will say this there was two situations in which I needed maintenance to come to my room to fix a plumbing issue and the first time it took maintenance an hour and a half to make it to my room and on the second occasion, it took maintenance over two hours to make it to my room. And I get it things happen but an average time of one hour and 45 minutes before maintenance gets to your room kinda unacceptable. I’m not here to complain and just leave a negative remark. I will say at the gym on the facility is very nice and the young lady whose name I forgot who checked us in on Monday march 30 at around 3:30 was very nice and had great customer service
- 3/5
Staff was good. Room very clean. Bed needs to be upgraded. Shower had three body washes, no shampoo, no conditioner.
- 4/5
Room was clean (very important) , front desk efficient and friendly at reception, not so much as leaving in morning. Parking perfect. I needed a 1st floor room (health issues) not possible and the stairs were very big effort
- 3/5
My room was missing the chair.
- 3/5
Room was ok for an overnight, passing-through road trip. No elevators and parking lot was very tight and limited.
- 3/5
Our group had 2 rooms booked right next door to each other and neither one of the toilets would flush properly.
- 5/5
Great breakfast staff was very friendly and helpful would would stay here again :)
- 5/5
The room was clean, and quiet despite being so close to freeway on-ramps. The staff was kind, professional and accommodating.
- 4/5
everything was good just the wifi when we were there was not really working right and the tv was super outdated and kinda hard to use
- 5/5
Staff was friendly upon walk in, room smelled great and was in clean condition, house keep provided extra blanket upon request and breakfast the next day was as good as you can expect it to be. I’d book again
- 5/5
Great place for an oversight stay or quick getaway.
- 5/5
Nice room
- 5/5
Room was clean, Staff very helpful, Breakfast room fine.
- 1/5
Staff all but ignored my existence for 15 minutes before finally checking me in. Someone tied up a whining/barking dog outside the room which persisted from 6:30am to 9am. The shower was incorrectly labeled, so hot is cold and vice versa.. though it didn't matter as the water in the room cut out altogether while my wife was showering. It didn't come back for about an hour and when it did, it was black coming out of the faucet
- 4/5
Friendly front office staff. Rooms are clean.
- 5/5
Clean room and great staff!
- 3/5
Nothing special. Just a basic room. That’s all you really need when traveling.
- 4/5
Had a very busy couple of days. Time at the hotel was mainly in the evening to sleep. Very comfortable room and bed.
- 4/5
clean room, remodeled, friendly staff, good breakfast
- 4/5
Super clean and spacious room. Would stay here again. The only downside was traffic noise in the area.
- 4/5
Great spacious room. Would have liked a couple of comfortable chairs. Breakfast was great.
- 5/5
Good location, reasonable price
- 3.5/5
Close to work location WiFi didn’t work to get work done
- 3/5
The bath tub water would back up and there was a very slow drain. The tv signal was weak and tv remote didnt have a guide channel button to view all channels and select what to view.
- 4/5
Room was great and clean.
- 3/5
Wifi was not secured. Location is in a weird street, off a freeway exit. Good enough for the price.
- 4/5
Extremely convenient location, extremely friendly staff, well lit parking, very clean. Only complaint is a poor shower head with little water pressure. Other than that, it was a great stay.
- 3/5
The beds were comfortable. The towels were very thin, the soap provided wasn’t good.
- 5/5
Staff was very attentive. We had technical issues in our room, so we were moved to another room. Breakfast protein choices (meat & eggs) rotated daily. We had a lot of choices.
- 5/5
Clean rooms, full breakfast, staff friendly and helpful, and great location to boardwalk.
- 4/5
Loved the location, super close to where we were going, but difficult to get in and out of. Next to loud street, noise at all hours of the night
- 4.5/5
The staff was always very helpful and kind.
- 2.5/5
Breakfast was included and location is good There was diarrhea on the bathroom seat and the shower water faucet was backwards and not very hot.
- 3/5
I had requested a roller bed for one day but I was told I had to get it for both days and at the end of my stay I would get a credit for the day I did not use it. I thought that was unnecessary since I told them I only needed it for one night. Both lamps by the bed were not working. They also fail to let us know at check-in that housekeeping is upon request.
- 3/5
The service was extremely extremely poor. To start off, during the check in, the gentleman at the front basically threw us our cards and it wasn’t until I called him out, did he apologize. Then on our third day stay, all of the lights were off basically all morning and it wasn’t until we went down to the lobby
- 4/5
Staffs listen but failed to welcome cordially. Responds ok but cleaning lady can't speak English. Cleaning schedule also once in 3-4 days - Requested many times which is not convenient. Entering and Exiting premises very tight . Need sign clear. Noisy in the night and early morning.
- 3/5
Breakfast
- 5/5
Yaye
- 5/5
Great staff and the room smelled fresh and clean!
- 3.5/5
Basic things like bathroom toiletries were limited for 3 persons stay. Plus overall quality of bedroom decor and amenities was poor. Not worth the money paid
- 3/5
It was loud at night with the freeway close by
- 5/5
Good
- 2.5/5
Very small bathroom, has to step into the shower to close the door. Limited parking.
- 4/5
Okay 👍
- 4/5
Hotel was clean and glad to have a safe place,Santa Cruz crawling with homeless zombies
- 5/5
Great guest service and very clean!?
- 3/5
Basic room. Food options were ok and the outside area was sketchy. Free parking and kitchen staff were great. Air conditioner was loud and made sleeping very difficult.
- 4/5
Decent place to position yourself in for Santa Cruz. Clean and comfortable. Stayed with 2 children.
- 2/5
The toilet kept running; the hair dryer and fridge were broken. Requested for housekeeping services but never were honored. I didn’t expect that. I have stayed at different Best Western Hotel locations before but the experience here was not the best
- 4.5/5
Not the best WiFi connection
- 5/5
The variety of food/drinks during breakfast, easy check-in/check out and friendly staff.
- 5/5
Frontdesk staff should at least welcome guest.Frontdesk need customer service training how to welcome guest.Place is clean though.
- 3/5
Parking lot is extremely small, other guests were taking up 2 spots making it harder to park. The free breakfast isn’t available long enough, was told they were serving anymore and seen a few other guests walk out with plates. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was a bit small but not bad for a 1 night stay.
- 5/5
Quiet and Clean. Nothing, we had a good experience.
- 5/5
It was a wonderful experience, I only wish that my alarm wasn't set for Hawaii time!
- 5/5
Can check in late and stuff its nice
- 5/5
Perfect stay if you’re visiting the Santa Cruz board walk! The rooms very updated and very clean! The staff was very friendly and helpful!
- 2/5
Tried this property looking for a cheap room while in town. Bed was uncomfortable, hot water wasn’t working in the shower, and mandatory checkout by 11am even though I was the only guest. Will look somewhere else next time I’m in town
- 5/5
I loved the waffles that had hearts inside during breakfast.
- 3/5
This hotel is adequate..but for the price I paid...not worth it
- 2/5
I was showering and the water wasn’t running properly. Little to none came out until 10 minutes later
- 4/5
A+
- 5/5
clean
- 3.5/5
The location was convenient. The room was clean, and beds were comfortable. The bathroom was very small. You to step into the shower to open the bathroom door. Breakfast could be better. The waffles were good, but the eggs were bland.
- 3/5
We made a reservation but when we arrived we were told they could see we made a reservation but there was no room for us. The clerk checked the other hotels but they did not have us either. It took a while and we were tired but the clerk was very nice and did get us a room.
- 2.5/5
Fridge and microwave didn’t work. Figured out they weren’t plugged in Tub was clogged Toilet lid didnt stay open
- 2/5
Asked for accessible room, got second floor( of two) end of hall. No internet, tiny bottles of shampoo, body wash, conditioner. Not enough for one use. Way overpriced. On a freeway onramp.
- 1/5
It was not a good stay! This hotel has been battling a water leak for years. We had to stay on the 2nd floor, I'm 68 yrs. so that meant carrying luggage up the stairs, no elevator that I knew of. The room had no soap, when I asked the hotel clerk for soap, he said they were out of soap. He found one small bar of soap, I asked for extra coffee and cups, he gave me coffee but no cups. I had to grab my own from the breakfast area. Then there was a homeless person coming into the lobby while we were checking in and she was looking for something. At breakfast time the same homeless person came into the breakfast area and started grabbing food, I'm happy that we had finished our breakfast because that homeless person was touching all the food items that others would be using later on. Bottom line... I will pay extra to stay at another hotel next time I'm in Santa Cruz. It's sad because we have stayed here many times in the past and we enjoyed our stays, but times change, and this hotel is changing for the worst. I don't recommend this hotel to anyone; they need to make some serious improvements.
- 5/5
Great attitude about service
- 5/5
Perfect stay.
- 2/5
Property not very clean; very noisy
- 4/5
It was good, clean and quiet.
- 4/5
Close to UCSC
- 5/5
Very helpful in answering my questions Clean rooms and comfortable bedding
- 5/5
Room was newly remodeled and it was nice. Breakfast options were decent. Staff was also friendly.
- 4/5
The accommodation was OK but not up to the standard we expected of Best Western.
- 3/5
The WiFi wasn’t working properly
- 4/5
Goof
- 1/5
Stayed here last night, I will never be returning. Awful experience, rude staff and so loud you could hear everything, especially when anyone walked or knocked on a neighboring door. The area is filled with homeless people, I would not recommend this area, or this property. When I told them about my experience, they were completely dismissive and lied about their cancellation policy (I wanted to cancel my second night there so it went to waste). Save your money, go next door, or really anywhere else.
- 5/5
Xxx
- 5/5
My stay was good. Nothing to complain about the room. The only thing
- 4/5
We arrived Friday night & left Sunday morning. My husband woke up sick Saturday so our plans changed. I ended up shopping at Target & the Mall while he slept. The BW staff were understanding & gave us extra items we needed. Would highly recommend & we will be back.
- 4/5
I like the fact that location is close to the highway and right across street from denny's
- 5/5
Very clean and comfortable. Our room was spacious with jet tub. Location was also a plus. Good breakfast. Would book again
- 2/5
Super noisy area neighbors were up all night power went out because the breaker tripped and they couldn’t find the breaker no Internet
- 3/5
It was a good stay
- 2/5
No TV !! And no WiFi!!
- 2/5
.
- 3/5
I dont like the fact that my deposit has not been returned. I left the room in good condition. I understood that it should have been returned on my check-out...
- 4/5
My stay in Best Western was good.
- 5/5
Exactly what was needed on a late night in Santa Cruz. Clean, comfortable, could be a bit quieter. If you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs. There is a lot of road noise until late in the evening.
- 5/5
Near the airport and clean. Would stay here again.
- 3/5
This place was average but for the price not that great; thought I’d pay a little more to get a nicer hotel but it was relatively average. The area of Santa Cruz is full of homeless people and becoming the next San Francisco. The walls are quite thin and the beds are super stiff and uncomfortable. Front desk was alright as they were training someone new. And if this property is full then good luck because there’s hardly any parking. That’s why their policy is one car per room. Other than that it was relatively average like I said. So don’t set your bar high coming here like I did. Because the pictures don’t paint the picture of reality.
- 1/5
The breakfast was also underwhelming—very basic with limited options, nothing special at all. The location was okay, but don’t expect good service at this hotel. Overall, not worth the stay, and I wouldn’t recommend it
- 5/5
Easy access to FWY. 2 left hand turns and on the 101South
- 5/5
Alright, for a MOTEL, this is pretty good. I say this because we had no idea we booked a motel, so we tried to not to let our mistake affect our overall expectations of this place. We were safe, a roof was over our heads, the breakfast was good, and the walking distance wasn’t far from parking lot to room door. However, it was very loud in the mornings when staff or guests would walk by our front door, which was on the first floor and close to the gym. Also, we could hear the guests walking in the room above us but I’m assuming that’s normal for motels, or maybe these guests stomp more than the average Joe? Wasn’t a fan of the shower head, either, as it sprayed everywhere and I had just gotten a tattoo on my ankle and would’ve preferred a less messy spray to not agitate it. On the plus side, when I needed things, the staff provided them promptly and were friendly/helpful. The breakfast was delicious and overall it was a decent stay. Like I said, for a motel, this is a good choice.
- 2/5
It was loud. The front desk person was awesome and sweet and helpful though!
- 5/5
Was clean
- 3/5
Con’s: price gauging because of near by university welcome week, 400.00 a night ! Location on a corner with a signal and massive traffic, ambulance sirens, honking Our view was homeless people begging for money. The towels were worn and mismatched. Internet service down the entire 2.5 days we were there. Breakfast was disappointing. This place felt like an over priced motel. Only if you could get a ridiculously low rate would I consider staying there. I personally willl never consider staying there again.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean rooms
- 4/5
Overall stay was okay. I arrived to check-in too early. When i wanted to use the lobby bathroom staff was using it and took too long. With the room bathroom and other areas needed detail cleaning. It must be deep clean every time.
- 3/5
Location good
- 4/5
The Lovelys
- 2/5
Easy parking, and staff was nice. You. Could hear every person that is staying I. The complex. Walls and door are thin, you can hear all the cars on the street. Bathroom outdated and room key kept deactivating. Overall decent stay. Not worth money they charge.
- 4/5
Stay was fine, just not the cleanest. Seems like maybe shortstaffed, not necessarily due to the efficiency of housekeeping.
- 5/5
it was good, we stay here often.
- 5/5
Inconvenient and noisy
- 5/5
The property was easy to get to and parking was abundant.
- 4/5
Bathroom fan was loud and needed to be replaced. TV had two remote controls which was confusing to get service. Tiny breakfast area dealing equally annoyed travelers having to navigate such a tiny space for an entire motel.
- 3/5
No elevator. We really needed one.
- 4/5
Staff was very helpful with everything
- 5/5
Parking situation is deplorable
- 5/5
Super friendly and helpful staff! Budget friendly place to stay that is comfortable and clean! We will definitely return!
- 4/5
My bed was dirty
- 1/5
Duty bed pillows duty sheets blankets hairs in the bed bedroom smell
- 5/5
The customer service is great they were very curious very hospital very professional even when I did a spill in the lobby rushing out to do something else she was very professional think you have a great employee and I give her on the scale from 1 to 10 I would give her a 30 good job thank you very much and I would definitely recommend this to anyone traveling to Santa Cruz California thank you very much
- 3/5
Breakfast was good, Room was clan. The air condition is not clear, better they upgrade.
- 4/5
The room was clean and comfortable. I liked the vinyl flooring instead of carpet. Great complimentary breakfast! Check in was a bit slow.
- 5/5
Great place
- 5/5
Very nice room, very polite and attentive greeter, convenient neighborhood
- 1/5
My room was completely open went I come to my room, I was so scare to enter the room with my son. I call front desk and he didn’t come to check the room. Never coming back!! I feel so unsafe
- 2/5
Key cards kept not working. Staff didn’t properly set up breakfast.
- 5/5
We arrived about an hour before check in time and our room was ready. A very friendly young man at the desk checked us in. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Would definitely recommend.
- 3/5
Sandwiched between to other motels, bright parking light on all night towards our window, overpriced, orange juice machine "out of order" for breakfast all morning, wifi working on and off, definitely shouldn't be rated excellent.
- 4/5
Nothing outstanding except friendly staff. Hot breakfast available but no syrup on day 1 and on day 2 no waffles, on both days out of most food options
- 5/5
very good location
- 5/5
Our check in process was great! Staff was so kind, made my family and I feel like this was a good choice for us to stay, prices were so reasonable and clean and comfy rooms!!
- 2/5
The breakfast area in the lobby was clean and nice and the staff was friendly.
- 1/5
This place is filthy from the rooms to the bed. Beware. I tried to get my money back because i didn't stay. Had to chase down the manager and im still waiting for my money back. Was told it could take up to 15 days.
- 4/5
Our stay was good, it's a small hotel so all the parking is on one side of the hotel. We had a room on the back side so we had to carry our luggage around the building. But this is Santa Cruz and most hotels are on smaller size lots. Overall we would stay here again.
- 4/5
The hotel has old-fashioned key cards that kept getting wiped out by our phones and/or credit cards. We had to have them re-activated more than once.
- 5/5
It’s a decent place to stay if you are in town for a short while. No frills, but everything was in working order. Staff was very nice, when I had problem with the keycards a couple of times.
- 4/5
Before you book this hotel, ask yourself what will you be doing in Santa Cruz. The room was very clean. The shower head was high enough for my 6'4" husband, and the water pressure was decent. The bed was a bit on the firm side, but not so hard that we were uncomfortable. The sink area was separate from the toilet and shower which is always nice However, there wasn't a towel rod by the sink, so the hand towel we were using had to be just laid on the counter. The floor of the bathtub wasn't slippery, but it also wasn't textured. There wasn't a grab bar in the tub/shower area, so I was very careful not to slip. The floor did get more slippery as soap and shampoo got on it. If you are planning a trip here to attend an event or explore the area, this is a great place to sleep, shower, and eat breakfast. If you're looking for a romantic getaway, though, this isn't the place at all. Some of the reviews mentioned problems with the parking lot being full, but we were there Wednesday-Saturday, and the hotel didn't appear to be full. Half of the rooms face the parking lot, and half of them face a strip of garden area and the back side of the next door hotel. There is no view of anything. Our room was closer to the street, and during the day the traffic noise was very loud At night it was quiet, but we weren't there in the middle of the summer It might be different then. The breakfasrt had the usual hot and cold choices. We would probably stay here again.
- 3/5
there was nothing in particular I did not like. I like the hot breakfast altho you could get a better quality bread. the rooms were quiet from the adjoining traffic which I very much appreciated. the rooms were very clean as were the parking lot and common areas. the two staff people were friendly and helpful. a pool would have been terrific. very convenient location.
- 3/5
This property was clean and had a good rate but the customer service was not good. No one was at the desk when we wanted to check out at 9:30am. We waited for 20 minutes. We left the keys with housekeeping who did not know where the front desk staff were. I called later in the day and no one answered the phone and there was no option to leave a message. The phone just disconnected after ringing several times.
- 3/5
The room itself was clean and worked, but there was constant noise from other people staying all night and would stand and chat loudly right outside our room at 2-3am. If staying, recommend going to the second floor.
- 1/5
The residents in the next room to me are vacuuming their room at 10:00PM, and management informed me that they do it all the time. There is absolutely NO management here, this place is horrible.
- 1/5
Honestly the worst experience I ve had have in the beautiful city of Santa Cruz
- 2/5
Parkin is no t safe They open my car 🚗
- 5/5
Great customer service, hot breakfast and exercise room
- 1/5
No staff anywhere when i went to check in. Had to find another hotel to stay at because of this and they wouldn't refund my money because it "was past check-in"
- 5/5
Great location and close to tourist destinations!
