I got accident I never make to be there but the motel still charged me

Very clean room and property overall. The area is nice, there’s a Safeway grocery store about a 10-15 minute walk from the property and plenty of restaurants and coffee shops across the street. Lots of parking for guests and overall peaceful. If you get a downstairs room you can hear the people above moving around, so if you’re a light sleeper I suggest getting a 2nd floor room. Fridge and microwave were a nice bonus. Owner is very nice.

It had ample parking and the location has food and services across the street. Santa Clara University is also just a few steps away. The room was clean and everything was tidy. It was a hot couple of days and the AC kept me cool. The shower door did not stay close, the floor on that bathroom was not level.

Super nice management at check in and check out. The room was really clean and renovated. The shower worked well and was modern looking. The room had a mini fridge and microwave. We knew in advance there was no coffee maker, thus we brought our own mugs and instant coffee. There about 6 eating places across the street, plus a Safeway store, within a 5 min walk. A bus stops right in front of the door. We would definitely recommend this inn.

Ed, the owner, is always there. He is nice, but he did annoy me when he kept bringing up oil leaking out of my car. My car is a 2010 and actually, the oil he complained is just wear and tear from an older car. But, he was on my case every day, which I did not like. He complained that I was messing up his parking lot. He needs to understand there is something called "cost of doing business" and again, my oil leak is "normal" for the age of my car. With that said, the room was nice. The bathroom and shower worked great. Unfortunately, due to being hassled about my "oil problem", I won't stay there again.

The owner is super nice and you notice a big difference between staying at a corporate owned hotel.The property is lined with lemon and orange trees and beautiful flowers which he takes very well care of. Everything is very clean and I appreciated having a refrigerator and a microwave in the room! Nice also to park right in front of your room.

Ed was fantastic! Loved my stay! Will definitely be coming back. Location was perfect. So many eateries so close to the inn.

Even when I arrived late, no problems finding parking. Room is clean and bed is comfy. Staff was polite. I had a great stay.

I’ve stayed here twice. The person at check in is very nice. It’s as close as you can get to Santa Clara University. A short walk. There’s food options right across the street. Our room was clean.

This is not a luxury 4- start hotel, but i was pleasantly surprised by how nice the room was.

Location, location, location. Near the airport, Santa Clara University, and lots of little cafes for breakfast within walking distance.Ed is very kind, and we greeted his parakeets each day. Amenities are few (no coffee maker, for example), but it was a homey and relaxing stay.

Location Location Location. We are here for SCU and the reason we will always stay here or next door is we can leave our car in the hotel parking lot and just walk to the university. Massive Plus. It's all about location and access. The first rooms were given this time were dirty and rough. They had missing grout in the bathrooms, marked up walls that need touch up paint, melted / damaged side table top from 'something'. Only one luggage stand for two people. There was a problem with the lights and the heater not working etc etc. This was all rectified by moving us when we said something but the rooms were then given to someone else... so those folks suffered. I'd stay out of the first couple rooms closest to the office... they are in need of love, renovation and attention that they don't seem to be getting. Warning - There are no fans in the bathrooms. So steam from the shower fills the space and there is no way to vent it or the smell if your spouse uses the toilet. Yes, there is a window you can open but in the middle of winter now your choosing stink, steam or cold. Bathroom lights - the bathroom lights (shower and toilet) are tied to the same switch that turns on the lights at the sink area (in view of the bed). So if your spouse needs to use the toilet or shower and your still in bed sleeping the lights in the sink will be turned on and light up the whole bedroom. Wonderful at 2am. The owner wanders to parking lot most days for hours. It's a little creepy. Sorta feels like you're always being watched. It's certainly not relaxing. If he was doing something it would not be creepy... but he's not... he's just wandering and watching. He's harmless and not a bad guy... but now you know who it is thats our there insuring your car does not drip oil on the cement.

The accommodations are very simple and may not be fancy enough for some, but it is clean and comfortable a great value.

The gentleman at the front desk was super nice and helpful. No coffee was offered although there is coffee shop across the street. You can hear the running water in bath room and people talking from room above or next door.

The Sterling Inn was not what I expected. It was OK, and for the most part clean and safe, which is the most important thing (except for the hair in the sink, but that was no big deal). The front desk clerk was friendly and I got my room right away, but with all the great reviews I suppose I expected better. I would not stay here again. Overall the place reminded me of a cheap motel.... While fairly clean, the bed and pillows were clearly far older than they should be, the towels were old and flimsy and needing to be replaced, the fixtures were loose and broken, the walls were painted over drywall cracks, the AC/Heater unit worked but was old, the sink clogged up, the shower door was loose and in danger of falling off, and the floors were sticky. I gave it 3 stars because, in spite of this review, it wasn't misleading. The pictures are fairly accurate, and everything else in the area was 3-4x the cost. If I could have planned it better or had a bigger budget or a longer stay I would have stayed somewhere else. I surely will next time. It's fine.

From my perspective, this place had a really cute, cozy, and home-like feeling especially being family-owned. The service was so kind and excellent. It was spotless, with lots of space and plenty of parking. Plus, the pricing was great for the quality. Overall, I’d definitely come back here! Go and support! Also! It's close by to a couple of restaurants and drinks!

It was conveniently located to the event we were attending. The walls are a bit too thin. We could hear the people next door.

When our key card stopped working because of a dead battery in the lock, the staff took care of it while we were out. Several hours, the person at the desk had the key card ready for me and address me by name when I came in to grab the replacement.

I got a very good rate which was lower than usual and an accessible bathroom. Bathroom set up was wonderful but there were ants on the floor. Otherwise the room was very clean/nice. Could never get the TV to work. An odd thing was that instead of a mini refrigerator there is a wine cooler -- and this is not Napa Valley. I felt safe and it was quiet. The front desk person told me several times that I was not allowed to have visitors -- which I felt was over the top since I'm in my 70s and use a walker. Just wanted a place to rest my head, not to have a party. They also tried to kick me out at 10am when the checkout time was 11.

The owners of this property were so inviting and welcoming. They obviously put time and effort into their establishment. The tile shower was great. The room is nice and large. It was perfect for the night. We stayed before flying out the next morning.

I have stayed here a couple of times now and I really like it. The rooms have been newly redone. They are simple, in the best way, and very clean. The family that owns the motel is friendly and very helpful. The rates are very reasonable and it’s walking distance from Santa Clara University, which makes it the perfect place to stay when I go to visit my son. Highly recommend.

I paid for a room but they never booked it officially . Hotels.com records show that they checked me out @ 12:09 then nine hours later came to my room and kicked me out, at 10 o’clock at night!!!!! He also charged my card for deposit and upon arrival demanded $200 cash or he wasn’t going to check me in. After respectfully leaving, He refused to refund me for the night , and it being so late im now scrambling to find a new room, down $120, and completely dissatisfied. We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel near the San Jose Airport. It was very clean, updated and in a safe area with cool Arts and Crafts homes nearby. Restaurants were easily walkable. Parking was easy and shopping was nearby. It was in a University area. The manager and house keeper were super nice at check in. Thanks for the pleasant surprise!!

Cute, clean room with nice shower and a bathroom mirror with excellent lighting. I can actually see to put on my make up. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Coffee and restaurants right across the street. Great price!

It was convenient but there were some kind of flying bugs. The floors were sinking and there was 3/4 inch gap at the first door so anything could crawl in.

Staying a couple nights for a concert. Great hidden little gem. Very old , but kept clean and family run! The family was sincere and helpful. It was quiet at night and the location was perfect! Historical area in San Jose and Santa Clara!

This property is across the street from Santa Clara University, which allows one to walk to the campus for events like graduation. The rates are less expensive than other surrounding properties. The owner is very nice and accommodating.

I understand family owned running a business is challenging. Nothing I mentioned is unlikely new to the owner. They will probably get to fixing them eventually but it is what it is.

Absolutely wonderful place with a charming owner—I’ve had multiple stays and will always come back here when in San Jose area.

The hotel is right next to the Santa Clara University campus and there are a lot of great restaurants nearby. Safeway is one block away. Though it is at a bigger intersection, you cannot hear any street noise. The owners are great and very welcoming. We had a very pleasant stay and would definitely go back again.

I think the place in general and its location are just great. For the price as well compared to other places it's pretty good too well worth it. Although I do suggest that they manage their housekeeping staff better as they were pubic hairs and a used bar of soap left in the tub which everything else seem like it was clean just inside the tub it seems like they did not clean it. Other than that everything else was pretty okay better than what you'd expect for the price and the floors are very squeaky

Great staff, very clean room, though the beds are not the softest. Great overnight stay for a great price.

My only negative is the sound from the room above. Fortunately, they didn't stay up long because the sounds of people walking around was noisier than I would have liked. However, I would still stay there again if I were in the area.

I have stayed at this location both alone and with my family when traveling for work. The location is safe and the hotel its self is clean and comfortable. The customer service is the reason I continue to return. The owner is kind, considerate and very welcoming.

Nice place. Good location. Plenty of parking. Friendly host at the front desk. Remodeled room, but the floor squeaks. Mini soap and shampoo, we’re ok, but not worth writing about. Quiet even though it’s next to a busy street.

It was an owner operated motel. The property was maintained like home, clean and orderly. The hospitality received from the receptionist (owner) made me felt like an old friend. Will go back in my next trip.

The owner of the property is nice, very kind, friendly, and personable. He is great with kids. A year ago, he gave a bag of M&Ms to my 4 year old nephew for free. When I come to San Jose, this is my go to spot because of the owner.
