Reviews
The hotel is praised for its convenient location near public transportation and Santa Clara University, as well as its cleanliness and friendly staff. However, guests frequently complain about the noise from nearby trains, the quality of the rooms and amenities, and issues with customer service, including unhelpful or rude staff and problems with deposits and billing.

Perfect for visiting Santa Clara University across the street. Free parking and you can walk to campus. The rooms are a little run down but clean and spacious.

Other things that were great was the location, the amenities and the rooms themselves. The only thing I gave a lower score on was the property itself. There have been solid refurbishments but it's age is showing and there are obvious things that could be done to improve it's overall appearance. However, overall, the stay was defenitely great value (and comfort) and perfectly located. I will be returning.

Horrible “hotel”. Dirty, loud and very uncomfortable.

The light inside the room The overnight staff were super unhelpful and when the toilet overflowed he refused to switch our rooms and made us plunge the toilet at 2am with water already all over the floor and we had to clean with all of our towels and weren’t able to get any more until the next day.

Very close to the San Jose airport, located right across the street from the Santa Clara University campus, which is beautiful and peaceful. We were at the far end of the building, away from the elevator, on the second (of three) floors, so we used the stairs which was very convenient. Starbucks was right there for our morning coffee. Parking was only $7/day. Windows were double-paned, to keep out the sounds of the trains, I’m guessing, so it was quiet. We brought flower leis from Hawaii so it was important to have a full sized refrigerator. My husband has knee issues, so an elevator on our end would have been nice, but we managed.

Stayed here for a night while in the area for medical appointments. Rooms are huge! The bed was comfortable, amenities were perfect. Room was especially quiet. Would definitely stay here again.

I like the property feels a bit secluded despite it being on a main road. Staff is helpful and efficient. With construction the parking can feel a bit limited but there is plenty of parking nearby.
- 3/5
The staff was great. But the entire building needs a renovation. There was this very strong artificial floral scent in the hallways and lobby. Please stop using that awful air freshener. The location can’t be beat. Ask for a room not facing the Caltrain tracks if you are a light sleeper.

The common area floors were a mess, stained thru out the hallway. The carpet in out room was 2 foot squares of utility carpet arranged on a jigsaw, and stained like the rest of the carpet. The nightstands in the bedroom were held together with duct tape and barely standing. There was no microwave in the room until we requested it, and we had to ask for toilet paper as well. I won't be staying at this facility again. It was a mess

Kitchen was barely clean and the diches and cups etc were very cheap

Was under construction while we were there. Someone taped our windows. Charged $50+ for no reason after we left.

Cons: no parking and front desk staff basically told us we need to figure it out for ourselves, room had a weird smell and a roach. I wouldn’t recommend for more than a cheap one night stay.

The room smelt of dog pee. Fire alarm went off first day for no reason (heater was on). But the room was stuffy , couldn’t open windows enough (stopper at an inch). Didn’t have a choice so stayed the whole time.

Check-in was very smooth. We stayed here for 9 days. The room was quiet. When we checked out, the front desk helped store our luggage and then helped load it onto the car for us because we had a lot of luggage. Bank of America and Starbucks are right next door, and it's very close to Caltrain station. It's worth mentioning that there is also a mini-kitchen and tableware for cooking.

First, the women at the front desk were consistently kind and professional. None of my concerns reflect on them. The issues were entirely related to the incidents and the conduct of the men involved. 1. False fire alarm + unannounced room entry Around midnight, the fire alarm went off and we evacuated, thinking there was a real fire. The next morning, three men knocked and immediately entered our room without waiting for permission, saying they needed to “do a quick check.” They inspected the room, including the toilet, and left with no explanation or apology. It felt invasive and unprofessional. 2. Armed individual on property On our last night, we saw an unknown man lingering in the foyer. A security guard arrived and warned us he had a machete, pointing it out on the ground nearby. While we were speaking with her, the man suddenly exited the building and fast-walked toward us. Fearing he was heading for the machete, we ran to our car in fear. Police and paramedics later took him into custody. Overall, the stay did not meet basic expectations for safety or peace of mind. The front desk women were wonderful, but we would not stay here again. I also reached out to Sonesta multiple times afterward and have yet to receive a response.

The location is amazing...walkable to PayPal Park, adjacent to the CalTrain station for easy trips to SF, DTSJ, and various Peninsula cities, very close to a Starbucks and indie bagel shop. We appreciated the clean room and being allowed to check in at 12:30 without an extra charge. However, the very old mattress was uncomfortable for my partner, whereas i had issues with the very loud HVAC unit in our room. There also wasn't much of a lobby/common area.

What I liked most about the property was its proximity to the 49ers stadium and how it has its own smoking area with a bbq smoker. I also liked the comfort of the bed ,queen size. My unit 243 didn’t have ac or heating I get hot at night and early morning and the ac didn’t function at all . I ended up getting really hot and sweaty .

The front desk was friendly and very accommodating. The hotel is not the cleanest. I observed bags of garbage in the first floor hall. There’s an overall odor…maybe of smoke. The first floor room smelled heavily of smoke, so I requested another and was transferred to a third floor room, which was much better, but there was still a bit of that smell. I just didn’t trust that my room had actually been sterilized. Other than that, the bed was very comfortable. It was quiet. Everything worked; nothing was broken. I felt safe with the indoor halls/doors and locks. I appreciated that there was an elevator between floors. The front desk attendant was super friendly.

Our room was fine, nothing fancy but large and clean with refrigerator, microwave, etc. Our issue was that just as we were going to sleep, the smoke/co2 alarm started chirping, and the hotel had no solution for us other than to change rooms. We had to pack up everything and change floors/rooms. Further, we were using the pull out bed, so we had to set that up (again), and all the old bedding was still on the bed. We were so tired, we took off the old /dirty bedding, piled it in the corner, remade the bed with fresh bedding and went to sleep.

Location was nice, shared in a small strip mall directly across from Santa Clara University, next to the train station, but noise level was very low. Quiet and comfortable. Only downside was the bathroom sink and tub were stopping up. Stayed 2 nights very comfortably as a solo traveler. Overall, felt like sraing in a studio apartment, which I loved. Would stay again.

The room layout was fine. The rooms seemed to have old decor, in need of upgrading. Staff service was good.

Location was perfect for what I needed. Staff was very friendly. The mattress we slept on needs to be replaced but other than that we are very pleased with Sonesta.

The bathtub had molded spots, the TV didn't work (had an error message that the satellite wasn't working properly), had other people's hairs on our towels, and the AC went from 53 degrees to 70, nothing in between. Just not the quality you would think you would get for the price.

It’s nice that his has a kitchen. But the furniture is worn, the room had an old feeling and odor to it. It was roomy very hot water, and friendly staff. It was very convenient to the campus to watch sports.

The hotel was clean but the lobby area and hallways were dirty. The staff was very rude , very long hallway to walk through to get to the room. I was told it was a 250$ deposit upon arrival after booking already on booking.com. Paid the deposit fee and was told 3-5 business days after we left it would be returned. After 5 days still no deposit. Called back and asked why and was told over the phone 5-7 days now. 7 days no deposit back, called again and was told 7-10 days. Today is the 10th day and still no deposit back. Very ridiculous and unprofessional service of both the hotel and staff.

Clean, well furnished room. A bit more kitchen flatware might have been good to have. The coffeemaker didn’t work. The staff were cheerful and helpful.

It is old, dated, shoddy and dirty.

Heating in room was very poor. Says it sleeps 3, fold out couch VERY uncomfortable, mattress bad

Can't believe this place got a 8 excellent review. They tried to upgrade the kitchen, but bathroom was completely outdated.
- 3/5
The hotel is a bit worn out. Torn up furniture and a leaky shower head that sprays water on to the bathroom floor. TV is tiny by todays standards.

Room was perfect for what we needed. Walking distance to Santa Clara University

The service is great, room is spacious though a little old. Clean and fresh.

Access to train and buses was just 2 minutes away from hotel! The hotel itself looks great from the outside but the inside needs remodeling like the bathrooms; carpeting on hallways and rooms need replacing too old, dirty/sticky. The dishwasher in my suite was broken. My stay was 10 days.

Love it

Overall the experience was nice. The facility was clean and very comfortable. I would of gave it 5 stars. But the $250 deposit that takes 5 business days isnt great. But overall if you're looking for a peaceful time for you and your family. This is the place to come. Great staff and comfy rooms. Will stay here again soon.

One thing that was awful about this place was air quality. The air inside this place was thick, poor, and had a variety of over powering smells depending on the time of day. I walked in one time and they were Febreezing the whole place as if they were disinfecting it. The room itself smelt like burnt popcorn all the time even when I had the window wide open. Legitimately the air quality was extremely poor… Staff was really polite and nice every time I saw them. Check in was easy and hassle free even though I arrived early. The gym in there is pretty bad as well so go in with low expectations. It def felt like it was a bit older. It wasn’t horrible quality but nothing new and fresh, the air quality was far from fresh. I did like this place for the fact I could hop on a train and within an hour be in San Francisco so if you don’t spend a lot of time in the hotel, it’s a nice location. Bed was comfortable and the AC worked well. Had a nice mini kitchen with fridge and counter space which was nice. The layout of the hotel room was nice and specious feeling for setting up a desk area and such. Internet speeds were good as well while I uploaded video files to clients.

Front desk was very bad for check in. Spoke with a very pleasant front desk in the morning and i was told that a supervisor would get with me over an issue i was having. No one ever did. The kitchen was nice and room was satisfactory. But customer service depends on their mood. I would not stay here again

The gentleman who checked us in was very kind

Although it was a pleasant place, I don't feel I will stay at this one again. I was not able to get internet service; the sink in the bathroom was coming away from the wall and didn't have a shelf. Staff was nice.

Liked the close proximity to the university. Staff at check-in and check-out were terrific. Room was clean. Would stay again.

Shower was not working, no water coming out. Asked front desk for another room and they reused but didn't offer solution.

Extremely dirty and inconsiderate i have a legit service animal and was placed on the first floor with a bunch of random people who are places in the first floor because they have dogs as well (but these dogs were not service animals) expect hearing bums the train and a bunch of dogs barking all day!

The room smelled like cat urine. The AC unit was very loud adn it leaked water into the carpet. There was humidity marks in the ceiling above the bed. The towels were very small, old and stained.

Very clean, spacious. Loved the separate bedroom and dishes in the kitchen area. Very modern and clean bathroom. Front desk staff were mostly friendly and provided everyone we needed.

The hotel was out dated and felt dirty as soon as you walk into the “lobby” I would not recommend staying here although the staff were kind.

This property wasn't ideal. Loud trains passing by, older facility - I had to move my room because my AC wasn't working then was moved to another room where the toilet was running, lightbulbs were out, and the remote was broken. Clientele wasn't professional. Each morning when I would walk to my car there were cases of beer outside of the rooms in my hallway. Very odd that we have to pay for parking too when it isn't even covered parking. Let's just say it wasn't the best stay I've had but it wasn't the worst either.
- 4/5
It was great! We didn't spend a lot of time in the room but both of us slept well. It was a very comfortable room! We did have noise from the train but since others had posted about it and we were expecting it, it didn't bother us. I would recommend this place to other travelers!

Everything was great except there was no garbage can in the restroom and my sheets Ajax a black spot in them

Great location across from Santa Clara university. Walkable to Starbucks and Safeway. Staff very helpful. Good sized room with full kitchen. Older facility close to commuter train and affordable. Highly recommend especially if you have business on campus.

The only complaint I have is the lighting in the room and the bathroom.

I have to call this hotel they charged me twice and I’m not sure why
