Reviews
The hotel has a historic charm and a great location, but the rooms are outdated and lack basic amenities like air conditioning. The breakfast is also a common complaint, with limited options and poor service.

Comfortable bed, nice staff, clean bathroom, location. Hidden fees, poor parking situation, German roaches(just a few) in the bathroom, no AC, and loud because you have to keep the windows open.

Location and small club atmosphere San Francisco was extremely hot - heat wave - and the room was not air conditioned. This isn’t criticism, as air conditioning is not normally needed in the City.

Perfectly located: safe to walk around at any time of the day, walkable area with access to taxis as well as public transportation, friendly staff. The interior in both the room and common areas is great. The building is historical and absolutely beautiful. Took me a while to figure out how to turn the ceiling fan, which had a lot of dust on it, off. The breakfast was disappointing with a very few choices. Since my window was facing the road, I could hear the traffic very loudly, which is disturbing, especially at night.

The location was great and considering how old and dated the hotel was it was clean thankfully. The hotel is OLD and DATED. The staff were barely polite at best and not helpful. No A/C in the room to shut out any noise for light sleepers like me. At $200 a night way overpriced.

Cable stop. Quiet rooms. Clean room everyday. Staff accommodating. Great location. Will go back. No fridge in room.

When we arrived there was a posted announcement that a wedding was taking place the night we were staying with you. So we were prepared for some noise but that which went on was a bit excessive.

Super convenient! Charming old “Club” (not a hotel) with great history. Great staff. Community rooms were beautiful. It is old and a bit worn down. The elevator stopped working a couple of times.

Not much…it was a decent price and they do have a half decent gym you get access to. Smelled in the hallways. It was $45 for a roll away bed that I didn’t want since we had a couch but they had it in the room anyway regardless of the fact I didn’t select it when I booked it. The noise outside (at least being on the 2nd floor) was brutal. No AC from what I could find and if you leave the windows open the noise is horrible so don’t expect to sleep. No fan in the room; just a space heater. Parking situation also was terrible.

My room’s fan didn’t work so it was quite warm at night. Also, my room was under the kitchen, which was very loud (as if someone was dragging furniture across the floor) all night. Made it very difficult to sleep after a very long day of travel. I would not choose that hotel again.

Breakfast has the basics, all that you really need-self serve. I enjoy the original woodwork, atmosphere of the building. Bedding/linens comfortable. Convenient location.

Wonderful old school building, a retreat from the noise and bustle in SF.Like going to Europe. Excellent staff, very comfortable room. Adequate continental breakfast, as well. We definitely will go there again.

I loved how old-school it was. The room was clean and comfortable - I recently stayed at one of the other large, famous Nob Hill hotels and the University Club room was very similar. The restaurant was a good experience too; the wait staff was excellent. In and out was tremendously easy. Overall, this was a good experience and excellent value. The building’s fine points (e.g., carpeting) are a little tired and could be refreshed, but I wouldn’t want to change the character of this beautifully traditional building.

Historic property with a superb location for our weekend in SF. Our room was a suite which was very comfortable and even had a view of the Transamerica Pyramid. No refrigerator in the room, no ice machine. But these were minor inconveniences and not to be expected in the historic building.

The linens and bed were so comfortable! The property generally needs an upgrade

Very conveniently located to Grace Cathedral Parking is quite a ways from the building. Wahl would’ve been helpful.
