Reviews
The Andrews Hotel is a historic property with a prime location near Union Square, offering a unique and charming experience. Guests frequently praise the helpful staff, beautiful decor, and excellent restaurant, but some find the rooms small and outdated, with external noise and cleanliness issues.

Loved this hotel rich with history and well maintained. Staff helpful with check in, however, when asked about any directions to atttactions, restaurants or anything they just said “I don’t know”.
- 2/5
My first room had a lot of street noise as well as a loud banging sound coming from the heater which made for a poor night sleep. I reported the problem in the morning and asked to move to a different room. While the hotel did accommodate the request, the staff member handling it seemed less than pleased to do it. The second room also had its own issues, including loud plumbing noises and a toilet that continuously ran. I was eventually able to fix the toilet myself by adjusting the mechanism inside the tank. Many of the issues were likely due to the age of the building. The TV in this room was not working. The front desk attendant attempted to help but was unable to resolve the issue, attributing it to the Wi-Fi and offering yet another room change. Since this would have been my third room during the same stay, I declined. I mentioned the problem to a different front desk employee the next morning, who said he would look into it, though I never received any follow-up. The staff was polite enough when approached, but I didn't find them particularly warm. The combination of room changes, maintenance problems, and noise issues made the stay less enjoyable than it should have been.

It was nostalgic that was it. It’s in a bad part of town. Since there is no air conditioning the windows have to be open. The first night I was woke up by gunshots, emergency vehicles and delivery trucks. The bathroom is extremely small. Compare it to a bathroom you would find in an RV. The parking was $58 per night.
- 1/5
terrible place (overall) but decent staff and free breakfast was okay
- 4/5
The restaurant down stairs was amazing, The noise from the street at all hours
- 4/5
The building is an older one. So everything was on the small side. This is especially true for the bathroom. I am 5ft and I had a tough time moving about in the shower. That bring said, the hotel was very clean. Breakfast is continental....cereal, pastries and yogurt. It is less than a 10 minute walk from the cable car and bus routes, so it was easy to get to the tourist sites we wanted to visit
- 5/5
Fantastic location, great continental breakfast, rooms are nice, staff is professional
- 3.5/5
The breakfast was good. Coffee location for breakfast was not suitable. Had to wait for ages to get a hot drink in the mornings.
- 4/5
Definitely an old hotel needing a "fresh coat of paint". Met the needs of quiet place to sleep, but lacked many amenities I expected. I guess maybe the pics shown didnt fully align with how small the hotel actually was. Stayed on business but probably would not stay on personal time.
- 4/5
Room was clean. Rooms can be noisy at night, especially when garbage truck picks up in the middle of Sunday night. Great location. Fino restaurant is authentic Italian.
- 4/5
Close to Union Square & great Italian restaurant Fino’s Very small lift & steep stairs as we were on the 6th floor…noise travelled through the building but I guess that’s what to expect in older buildings
- 0.5/5
The only positive was one member of staff, Shiva. He was always helpful. The rest couldn't care less. Not a lot The bed was awful, made horrible metal grating sound. On top of that Every morning started at 5.30 loud noises, couldn't make out where it was coming from within the hotel or outside which woke us up. It was almost like rubbish bins being dragged along the ground So didn't sleep properly Breakfast: Not much option Tea / coffee machine in reception only. For 2 days restaurant was out of bounds due to renovations So breakfast was setup in reception - not enough room to sit down to eat. When mentioned to reception staff was told ,"you can take it to your room" Our room was on the 4th floor. There was one antiquated lift which used to take forever How you were expected to carry food, hot drinks in your hands to your room
- 5/5
The bathroom and shower are rather small. Anything over one night would be difficult with that size of bathroom
- 5/5
Clean room and great location! Very comfortable bed

great hotel just in not the best spot lots of homeless around good breakfast and nice restaurant there
- 2.5/5

- 2/5
Suffocating rooms with no ventilation, no trash cans, no cutlery, loud and mostly faulty fan. The area is unsafe as you could hear a lot of howling at night. No lock on bathroom door. Elevator is extremely slow. Overall an extremely poor experience.
- 3.5/5
Very easy access to metro if you need to sleep in downtown. It’s slightly cheaper than most alternatives of a similar class in the area. It’s not their fault but there is a lot of homeless people in this part of the city. The room deco is a bit dated but bearable for this price. Breakfast is very basic - just a muffin and coffee but it’s complementary.

Love the building structure and how they keep it to its original old school feel. I was surprised but not having A/C in the rooms but the brick SF air kept the room cool while we had the window propped up. The restaurant was delicious and great service.

Property was very quaint. Room was small but had everything we needed. Location is excellent as it is close to eateries and transport. Fino restaurant is awesome.

Room was very clean and well maintained. Staff was very polite and supportive. They even allowed to check-in 4-5 hours early without any extra charge. Breakfast was average. But the Dining area was good. There is a bar at dining area where you can have complimentary wine in evening. Overall it was a very good experience
- 4.5/5
Very good location near Union Square (walking distance). Affordable rates, including breakfast. The room was nice and clean. The same breakfast offer every day was a bit boring, and the bed was a bit too bouncy to my taste, but that's the worst I can say about my stay.
- 4/5
The hotel has recently been redecorated so it’s quite clean. But staff at front desk didn’t know things and we received inaccurate info from them. Bathrooms are tiny if you’re not in a suite. For the price it was fine.
- 3/5
Our stay was ok, the bed is not very comfortable, and you can hear talking throughout the night. It’s really loud, so you hardly get a well rested sleep. The room overall can use some updating. The staff is nice and it’s clean overall.
- 4/5
The room was clean and I appreciated the housekeeping.
- 2/5
-helpful staff -flexible to change rooms when we had a security concern Can be improved -reduce noise level, a bit more soundproofing -Choppy internet -window cannot lock
- 4/5
Very convenient to where I was going. They had vallet parking.Tbey were very helpful to get me check-in earlier because of the wedding time.
- 5/5
Great location and good value for money. The staff were very helpful. One suggestion would be to improve the breakfast. Thank you!
- 5/5
Amazing old world charm- dates from 1905. Great breakfast and complimentary glass of wine each night in the superb attached restaurant.
- 5/5
Everything was great, staff, cleanliness, breakfast included. Just wish there had been something warm like eggs or bacon, but at the price point of the stay, I’m very satisfied!
- 5/5
Location, access to public transportation.

- 4/5
Possibly the smallest bathroom I have ever been in and I have travelled all over the world. No air conditioning. Bed is very firm.
- 5/5
It still has the old time SF feel, the old architecture and design, updated and clean.
- 3.5/5
Everything was good overall. The bathrooms were too small.

Almost all of the hotel receptionists were extremely rude. In addition, we forgot our backpack at the hotel and were already almost in Los Angeles when we noticed. When we called to ask about the backpack and how they could help us send it to Los Angeles, they simply informed us that they would do nothing and that we would have to arrange for UPS to pick it up ourselves. They would not even seal the box that we paid to have shipped. Our experience with this hotel was terrible from beginning to end. Furthermore, the hotel does not offer parking, and they charge almost USD 60 to park your car.
- 0.5/5
Nothing It wa old. Not clean. Cancelled on arrival
- 2/5
Awful and inhospitable staff. Poor mattress and very poor shower head. Worst of all was the elevator, that did not appear to be safe at all. Will not be coming back. This hotel advertises itself as a 4-star San Francisco hotel - compare that to the 4-star Parc 55 Hotel near Powell Street. The Andrews Hotel is closer to a 3-star hotel or even a 2.5 star hotel, and bordering an area where there are many, many homeless people wandering about.
- 4/5
It’s history. Staff were friendly. Room was very dark. But clean.

First off previous reviewers LIED about the breakfast, the whole weekend there was only cereal, cold boiled egg, some bread for toast and that was it. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT, for a “proclaimed” best breakfast is funny. Then the pictures of the rooms are false, booked the sunny bay room and it was the most tiniest room, the toilet was so close to the sink you can’t sit in there if your a bigger person, and the shower was horrible because the shower head fell a few times almost hitting my head if I didn’t move on time it would hit my head. There is no parking as well so be prepared to pay $58 per night for valet. I will not return to this hotel, worst experience ever.
- 5/5
Wonderful location. Can't be better. Walking distance from almost anything Our room was street view, but it is a very noisy street, lot of trucks at midnight and yelling and screaming from the neighbors bars. But if you ask for the indoor rooms I'm sure it will be a different story.

Staff was incredibly rude on check-in and very slow. Things did not improve. Heating is central old radiators so even with both windows in my room open it was probably over 90 degrees. I asked the desk to turn off the heating and they said they had but the radiator continued to pump out heat. Finally after three calls and a room visit (I guess to verify it was actually warm?) it was finally turned off. Breakfast was an abysmal selection of pastries and fruit with hard boiled eggs and tiny yogurts. There is one coffee machine in the lobby which takes forever. Carpet in room was dingy and disgusting. Windows have to be open due to the heat, so it is very loud. Bed is uncomfortable and right next to the door of the tiny room. Bathroom is so small you cannot stand inside it and use the sink.

- 3/5
The front desk clerk that assisted me (young Indian fellow with glasses) was kind of socially awkward and a little rude, asking me about my driving outside of the hotel, as if it were any of his business what I did outside of the hotel (unintentionally did a U-turn in a 1 way) and he wouldn’t drop it when I was asking about parking, food service etc.. they do not provide tooth brushes, tooth paste and hand soap but they did have shampoo & conditioner. They leave you 1 pack of instant coffee per room. What I did like about it was the building itself is rich with history (Turkish hotel from 1905). Overall even if I didn’t encounter that rude man child, I’d still give it 3.8 mainly carried by the building its self. Oh.. the “continental breakfast” is just instant oatmeal, hard boiled eggs left out in the open, cereal, store bought danishes. Advertises parking they do not have their own parking. This place teeters between artsy vintage and minimal effort/lazy.

The included breakfast buffet was adequate but not great. The bar/restaurant off the lobby was a real plus, with excellent food.
- 2/5
Not very good, no mention of a continetal breakfast as we were expecting a cooked breakfast to start our days. The room was too light as surrounding rooms with lights on all night and no curtains to block it out. Out all day getting back around 4pm and room not service, even though I let the desk know. 1 service in 7 days very poor, it should be services first checkouts second. No cups in room. THERE SHOULD BE A MINI FRIDGE IN ROOM STAYING 7 DAYS WE WOULD HAVE APPRECIATED THAT.

The restaurant Fino was my favorite How loud the trash or recycle guy was in front of our room having the king room in front of the building about 3 AM. They came poking around recycles was super loud and then a little after that the trash trucks came and then the recycle guy came again, so it’s really loud just be prepared for that. I asked to be moved when we returned from our cruise to somewhere in the back hopefully.

With be exception, hotel front desk had no idea how to do anything. My tv didn’t work and wi fi didn’t work when I checked in. It took until day 3 to get it fixed. The room was very small, the bathroom was TINT, and it was LOUD!!! Sirens and honking all night long. I ended up moving to another hotel.
- 4/5
Great price, great location, clean rooms
- 4/5
Comfortable room and competitively priced stay vs hotels closer to the pier 39 region Only one lift that could be rather slow to arrive which is required when carrying heavy luggage. Breakfast was OK but very limited choice though can’t complain really given the rates charged for the stay

Great location. Small bathrooms. The breakfast is limited to cold boiled eggs, toast/bagel, fruit, orange juice and coffee. Good value for San Francisco.

Loved the old style hotel. Room was small but comfortable and had everything you needed. Staff friendly. Breakfast was more than expected and great way to start day. Fino restaurant and bar in foyer was amazing and there were some other nearby restaurants that were great also. Coffee machine and water in foyer 24 hrs. Handy walk public transport.

This hotel has a lot of character. I got a sunny bay room and loved it! Staff was very friendly and helpful. Great central location. Cute Italian restaurant next door.
- 3/5
Things I really liked about the hotel; It was very charming, loved the well kept but old charming Hotel vibe. The room was clean and small but had everything we needed. Really loved the attached restaurant. The food, drinks and stuff in there were excellent. There are convenience stores, coffee shops, restaurants, and many other things in walking distance. Great area to stay in. Other things to mention, Although the valet parking is very easy and convenient, it is expensive. Staff at the hotel was friendly, but started calling our room at one minute after checkout to tell us to get out lol. Although the room was cute and clean, the actual bathroom itself was only big enough for one person at a time. Two people could definitely not be in the bathroom at the same time together. All in all had a nice short stay here. The cute little restaurant was definitely the highlight of our stay.

Clean room great staff and they have breakfast, only thing is when you shower you have more water outside then in the tub and no A/C but it was a great place to stay
- 5/5
Comfortable bed, clean room. Nice breakfast with dining area to seat yourself in the morning.
- 4/5
Staff was nice. Hotel is older but seemed very clean. Not too far from Union Square. What ever you don’t go the other direction accidentally ended up in the Tenderloin pretty scary place. It’s on a busy street but surprisingly was quiet at night.

There was insects in my room when I arrived. The drain shower was plugged and the shower was splashing everywhere.
- 4/5
Hotel is very old and there are things that should be updated, but for its age, it’s pretty nice. Front desk staff could be more helpful to those who are obviously not from SF, instead of expecting us to know what we’re doing- but everyone was very friendly.
- 4/5
The bed was great and location
- 3/5
Great hotel but not a four star as advertised. This was a great 3 star but no where near 4 star comfort and amenities.
- 4/5
No air conditioning.
- 5/5
Room was clean and also cleaned daily. Staff was friendly. There is a small elevator. Parking is available via valet, but the lot in the alley behind hotel cheaper. Shower was hot with good water pressure. There is not AC but even temps on the low 80s, it was comfortable with the window open and fan on. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again!
- 3.5/5
Nice location. Rooms were very outdated and the walls are extremely thin, you could here everything going on around you.
- 5/5
Really an A+ experience.
- 3/5
The bedroom was pretty cute! The tv worked great. The shower head was pointing directly to the wall it was attached to. And it was spraying water from the fixture it was attatched to as well. Runs hot quickly though. And the walls are paper thin, the neighbors were very noisy.
- 5/5
Clean, nice, modern. Everything was great!
- 2/5
Not recommending it, staff is ok, but the parking situation again is way too expensive for what they offer is my honest opinion.
- 3/5
Staff dressed like they didn’t know they’d be working. Very tired decor. Hot. Noisy. But also cheap so if that’s your main driver (it was mine) maybe this is your hotel. Breakfast was okay - cereal, bagels, pastries etc.
- 3.5/5
Rooms and location In the information they offer parking lot but the hotel does not have parking. We need to find something near to park the car
- 3/5
The hotel, although older, is in pretty good shape. They offer valet parking (no onsite parking), a continental breakfast, and basic amenities in the rooms. Word of caution, request a room NOT facing the street. The neighborhood can have disruptive homeless throughout the night (we had 3 separate instances of people yelling outside the window), and regular city noise (emergency vehicles, garbage trucks, street sweepers). Take advice from these sleep deprived guests and request a room in the back of the property.
- 1.5/5
Location and restaurant in lobby. No AC, ceiling fan was insanely loud, bathroom shelf coming out of the wall and slanted, shower was dirty (found hair), room smelled like a urinal cake, blackout curtain did not fit the window.
- 1/5
Hotel is truly a motel and in awful shape. Elevator smells, rooms are awful and disgusting and haven’t been touched for decades. I can’t believe this is a hotel that has a 8+ rating. There’s a reason there are no pictures of the rooms, just the lobby.
- 3/5
Spacious room, location near resto and touristy place.
- 4/5
A lot of street noise even with our white noise machine running. We always bring it with us.
- 3/5
The room was not as described in the pictures. It was a very small room. The bed takes up the whole area. The noise coming from outside is pretty loud. But thats not the hotel’s fault. Honestly the staff were nice. Parking was expensive $60 a night. I would not recommend this hotel unfortunately.
- 5/5
The room was very clean and all the fixtures worked. Even had a mini fridge in the room that could be used for storing my food and beverages. I was on the 7th floor and even up there the busy night life can be heard so if you are nose sensitive you might consider bringing some earplugs. I was visiting in March when temperatures were in the 50s and 60s. The rooms might get a little warm in the summer months (No AC but they have ceiling fans) Overall a lovely vintage hotel with great staff.
- 4/5
A quaint, historic building. It is clean with natural light and a nice big bathroom. The beds were comfortable, too. The staff was polite and helpful. Being that the building is very old, there was only one, very cute, but very old elevator. The power went out and which time we had to use the stairs. That only happened once. The room keys consistently stopped working but the front desk always replaced them when we asked.
- 5/5
Great for a solo traveler in the heart of the city.
- 4/5
1905 shows and it has a charm. Room was certainly spacious enough for one person, quiet in the back side of the property. Convenient location. I would stay again
- 5/5
The Andrews. First in food. FINO is top tier Italian dining. I grew up at one of Sinatra's fav places, in Woodland Hills, Dino's Lodge. Worked at Mama Levrari's, oldest Sicilian in Palm Springs. So I oughta know. The FREE BREAKFAST is $20-$30 anywhere else. Get there early. Talk about pouring your heart into a place. Personally, I think they spent too much renovating the hotel, but it is beautiful. First class all the way. And the staff, "is so sweet", my wife kept saying. When we needed more heat, I only had to make a call and the front desk did the rest. Great job everyone. And book while rates are low. Double, even quadruple everywhere else. High rent district and NICE!
- 5/5
Great historic building, lots of charm. Nice updates to rooms, very clean.
- 2/5
The hotel was in a nice area, with many restaurants and bar surrounding. Staff was also very nice. There’s also a small restaurant inside the hotel that seemed cute. The room was not up to par. The bed was really squeaky and the mattress was not firm at all. The bathroom was our biggest annoyance during our stay. My boyfriend who is 6’3 could not sit on the toilet because the bathroom tub was in the way. He quite literally had to sit on the toilet sideways. Me, being 5’5 could barely sit in the toilet comfortably. The shower drain was very slow and my feet were covered in my own bath water the whole time I was showering. When I went to grab a towel after the shower, I noticed there were previous stains on the towels. Our room did not have an AC system, only a fan ceiling. The hotel also felt very humid and had a distinct smell. All in all, we will not be staying here again.

I was celebrating my birthday and we were enjoying dinner in the hotels restaurant. As we were headed upstairs the guy at the desk asked did I enjoy the dessert. I was confused because I had not ordered a dessert. Once I had made it back upstairs there was a knock on the door. The guy from downstairs had brought me dessert up from the restaurant. He said he asked the chef to give it to me but he accidentally gave it to another table. I said all that to say they really went above and beyond. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Breakfast was pretty much the same (pastry and plain bagel) with apples, orange and banana. I like their coffee machine even though I dont drink coffee which had a variety. It also had choc. They also offer free wine via the restaurant between 5 and 6 pm. Location is very good, walking distance to Powell St where the cable car runs. Bldg is rustic and the sink is small but I canr complain for the price I paid.

Nice staff, clean room, good location, but lots of noise from the street. The hot chocolate machine was a nice feature. It would’ve been nice to have a mini fridge like at most hotels.

The hotel was clean and fresh, and seemed like it had recently been redone. The rooms were clean, but small and a bit dated. Our room had no windows facing the outside, but I realized that the bathroom mirror was actually a window and when I opened it, it opened to a dirty part of the roof with no screen. The room wasn’t large, but we were only staying one night and it was clean and appropriate for what we needed it for, especially for the price we paid. One thing to note is that there wasn’t a switch to control the ceiling fan, so to access the ceiling fan, they had just a super long ceiling fan cord, which I kept bumping my head into. The hotel does offer valet parking for $58 per night, but there are not in and out privileges, and you cannot access your car at all once they have taken it until you are actually leaving. The lobby had coffee, tea and water available at all time, but the only hot water for tea comes from the coffee machine, so it tasted like coffee grounds. They did let us store our bags after checkout and we were able to leave our car with the valet a little bit past checkout as well. They don't have a bathroom in the lobby. When I asked to use the restroom after we had checked out, they said I could go to the hotel next-door. I was able to use the bathroom in that hotel, but the hotel next-door is very rundown and the bathroom was not very clean , so it was a bummer to have to use that one. Overall this was a cheap but clean enough place for one night.

We stayed here for one night and had a wonderful time! The staff was super friendly, the room was spacious and clean, and the location was great—within walking distance to shops and restaurants in union square. It was a bit noisy at night, but we expected that being in the city and all. Would definitely stay here again!

The room was small; a queen size bed filled the bedroom area; no space for anything else. All our clothes went into the closet and shelves; no dresser; suitcases on the floor near the bed. The bathroom was worse. Too small and only for 1 person; not good if you're "large or heavy" as you can't maneuver around and sit down on the toilet as it is right next to the sink. And our toilet plugged up on the 1st day and had to call in a plumber. The mattress was hard and left both of us with pains; my wife in her hip, me in my back. The positive is the staff; courteous & helpful. We won't be returning to this hotel, even with the great staff. Ok if it's for 1 person, but not recommended for elderly, or with physically handicapped.

Great little gem of an older hotel close to so many things. Easy walk to the Masonic theatre, local pubs and you can either have them valet your car or park yourself around the corner. Small, clean. updated rooms. Ask for the bay window rooms. It doesn't look out at the Bay, it's a type of window and room is a little bigger. Staff was friendly, brkfst items in am, water, coffee in lobby all day. My most favorite thing was the AWESOME Italian place in there called FINO. So good. I'll be back.

The hotel was beautiful. The area was rough.
- 5/5
Nice authentic early 1900's Hotel.
- 3/5
Staff was nice and the location is good, but the room itself was a disappointment. The carpet looked old and dirty, the bathroom sink was unnecessarily tiny (to the point that it was hard to use) and there were noticeable cracks in the ceiling. This hotel is a reasonable value if you get a good price, but it's not a 4-star hotel, as Expedia indicates. 2.5 or 3 stars would be more appropriate.
- 5/5
Elegant place. All staff were professional and showed true hospitality.
- 4/5
The rooms where comphy they also had a breakfast in bed option. They had multiple things and the hotel it self looked lovely ! Staff where friendly and they came with selutions if you had a problem. Only thing was , because the space was not big you couldnt eat breakfast normally at a table. You had to sit on a side bench or even stand if you where unlucky. I do find that sad.
- 4/5
Check in was quick and easy, staff were courteous and helpful. The location was perfect and my bed and room were comfortable. The shower had great water pressure and the ability to take a bath. The building is historic with a a small elevator, Victorian-sized spaces, and few horizontal spaces to put your belongings. The city can also be a bit noisy at night. But, for what I needed for a single night, it was perfect.
- 4/5
Clean room, nice location.

Room was a little smaller than expected but you're not going to be spending a lot of time in it. Breakfast was good and the staff were friendly.
- 5/5
The desk clerk gave us advice on where to go ti see the Golden Gate Bridge, taxi information, and breakfast. The room is small but clean and is great for an overnight stop.
- 4/5
Donuts and plain bagels are the bulk of the breakfast offerings, along with small yogurts and some fruit. The bed and room was very comfortable, the windows need a clean and the curtains were dusty.
- 5/5
Great stay, friendly and amazing restaurant attached! Meghan at the bar is world class .
- 5/5
The hotel is in an older building given San Francisco's long history. You can compare this hotel to European style hotels...older buildings but with charm. The staff were welcoming and the hotel is adjacent to an excellent Italian restaurant. We had a great stay for one evening prior to leaving on a cruise. Would definitely return
- 5/5
Classic early 20th century San Francisco building

- 4/5
Friendly efficient staff, good location, clean and felt a good value!!
- 4/5
Clean room, friendly staff, European style hotel, well located in the City of SF.
- 5/5
Cool hotel. Mych better than a modern one. A unique taste of San Francisco history.
- 5/5
Breakfast should have eggs or some other variation. Bathroom shower had no ledge or long enough curtain, so using hand shower meant getting the whole bathroom wet. it was a super ineffective design and created a mess. sink faucet was leaky.
- 5/5
Perfect place to stay when in San Francisco.
- 3/5
Reason I rated 3 is because the first room we got was dirty and very dark and unpleasant. Luckily my bf told them and we were moved to a bigger brighter and clean room. However it was very noisy. Felt like I was sleeping outside! Hotel was interesting and has history but area around seemed shady. Breakfast was ok and I loved the complimentary wine each evening. 1 glass/person.
- 5/5
Love this hotel. I always stay here when in SF
- 2/5
The hotel gets a 3, the restaurant gets a 5. The elevator is ancient, tiny and slow. No bathroom in lobby, no late check out. Nice coffee machine in lobby. Only donuts for breakfast. Better hotels within a block away. Would eat at restaurant again but not stay at the hotel.
- 4/5
Pack earplugs if you need quiet, but coming from someone with sound sensitivity, the noise is worth it for the comfort and convenience that The Andrews offers. Also, if you stay during a heat wave, be forewarned that the hotel does not have AC - only ceiling fans. But thankfully, the weather is usually on the cool side. Our room on the 7th floor featured a bedroom with closing door, small but clean bathroom, and a tiny parlor in between the two. Hotels in the city are commonly 200 sf or less, so privacy is at a premium. Separation of bed and bath is a particularly nice bonus when you can find it! The bed was comfortable and there was a sink and mirror in the bedroom which allowed my husband a place to shave while I got ready in the bathroom. After the show, I appreciated closing the bedroom door to let my husband sleep while I sat by the parlor window, continuing to wind down. All in all, this is a quirky, little piece of history which survived the 1906 earthquake and holds a lot of stories in its halls. (Read the history of The Andrews which can be found in the surprisingly smooth, closet-like elevator.) We'll stay here again, and next time try the charming attached restaurant and bar, Fino.
- 5/5
Great old school place
- 4/5
Very nice place to stay but it has no A/C. We were very fortunate, when we stayed there, the weather was cool enough to open up the windows and let in the breeze. The room was very clean, the staff was excellent, breakfast was decent, and they provided you with a glass of wine between 5 and 6 PM. Excellent little Italian restaurant next-door. Great location, was able to walk to a lot of neat little stores and to catch the bus to drive around the town.
- 5/5
Clean room. Nice service. Poor variety brakfast. No air conditioner
- 3/5
Room was clean yet the bathroom was so small I was literally able to lean on the sink and sit in the toilet !!! The shower is so tiny you can’t turn at all.. I was supposed to get a complimentary bottle of wine at arrival and did not get it. Parking is not $48 it was $67. And was told suvs are more expensive to park. It did not mention that on the website .. but can’t argue, it’s San Francisco… it’s hard to find parking..
- 4/5
Older property that’s been nicely redone.
- 1/5
Staffs were really nice. Property is overpriced and in terrible condition. Shower booth is the worst booth I've ever experienced.
- 1/5
The bathroom isn’t functional for any human especially if you’re tall like me. No fan, no bathroom counter at all, or anything by the sink to get ready. The ratings for this hotel are disappointing and false. It’s not a comfortable stay.
- 5/5
It’s an old building with a bit of charm. The rooms are very clean and they serve wine in the evening and breakfast in the morning.
- 3/5
Great for price. Ceiling fan not working so we slept with window open. Lots of noise going on outside. Not much sleep.
- 4/5
A nice, quaint hotel. Friendly staff, clean rooms. Stairs are STEEP but the staff let us use the tiny, adorable elevator. Bring an eye mask if light is an issue for you, as there are no blackout curtains. Having Fino right there was convenient.

The hotel staff is very rude

Love the Andrews Hotel and have stayed here several times. Only issue was with some street construction going on during our stay. But that should be over soon.
- 5/5
Nice historic building in a great location
- 4/5
Very cute hotel, a little small but lots of character. Great location fir the city to launch day trip walk abouts. I wiuld stay here again!
- 4/5
Breakfast options are very limited as well.
- 4/5
Good property with decent quick breakfast. Area to the right of hotel has hoards of homeless people gathering each day after 8 pm. Felt unsafe walking to the hotel.
- 3/5
Very noisy.
- 5/5
What a wonderful hotel! Rooms are spacious and clean with comfy beds. Staff were great. Easy walk to stores, food and transport. There is parking directly behind the Hotel so that made it easy too. We LOVED it!
- 5/5
Location is #1 close walking distances to everything
- 3/5
Didn't realize there was construction going on right in front of the entrance to the hotel. There was major repaving, noisy construction drills, trucks, etc. The building was from 1905 and although there have been improvements made in the structure, it is old and we would prefer to stay at a more modern hotel. The staff was accomodating.

Good and well located
- 5/5
Room was cute and clean but heads up if you’re tall as the bathroom sink is very low and the toilet is very close to the bathtub. Really neat old building in a good location. Great place for the value and employees were nice.
- 5/5
Amazing customer service! I also like the coffee machine at the little lobby. Breakfast though not big, but efforts is shown - the donuts is a surprise!
- 5/5
Great place to stay!
- 5/5
Very quaint hotel but enjoyed the historical nature of it. It served us well.
- 4/5
Older property well maintained. Small rooms but comfortable. Staff sharp and attentive.
- 5/5
Absolutely beautiful little gemof a hotel. I would definitely visit this hotel again. It was amazing to stay here. The service was great. The staff was hopeful.
- 1/5
room super small like a closet. pillows smell very bad
- 3/5
The okay - Small rooms and outdated. A lot of yelling and arguments in the alley behind the hotel. Kept us up because we needed the windows open as they have no AC
- 5/5
Quaint and charming older hotel with plenty of dining options nearby
- 5/5
The lobby was not equipped for accommodating the large numbers for breakfast and it became cramped if crowded. Other than that excellent bed comfort and room and bathroom comfort.
- 3/5
I searched Expedia for a 4 star with BF. this hotel came up. But it is at most a 2.5 star. As 4 star rating include spacious space and extra cleanness. My room is like a closet. the shower place is one body width big. I could hardly turn. The pillows smell so bad I could throw up. The front desk was friendly and gave me two new pillows though.
- 4/5
The bedroom itself was great: bright, spacious and quiet, with excellent quality bedding. The floor wasn’t 100% clean (black hair here and there on the floor and pieces of plastic by the foot of the bed and by desk) What we truly disliked was the bathroom because of how small it was. Tiny sink and extremely narrow shower space. The water pressure, however, was great, and the good news is that we were told at check-out that new management will be remodeling and expanding those bathrooms. Breakfast was good but taken in the lovely but rather small reception area for now. Our understanding, however, is that it will soon be happening in the adjacent restaurant “Fino”, which was our suggestion to staff at check-out, so everyone can sit. Selection was good and fresh (bananas, yogurts, freshly baked donuts, bagels, cream cheese, jams and mini cinnamon rolls) Coffee machine with a variety of selection is available all day. We selected Good over Excellent mostly because of the bathroom situation. Otherwise a lovely hotel we would recommend walking distance to the theatre district. (so watch where you walk where it borders the Tenderloin area…)
- 2/5
However, there are major downsides. The building is very old, including the furniture. The heating system is centralized and the radiators turn on automatically. To my surprise, in the middle of July, the radiator suddenly turned on at full power, making the room unbearably hot and stuffy. I went to the reception, and they promised to turn it off, but it came back on at 2 a.m., making it impossible to sleep. I ended up changing hotels. There is also no fridge in the room. You can request to store your items at the reception, which is very inconvenient. The same goes for ice — there’s no ice machine, and you have to ask at reception, where the staff would disappear to the basement to get it.
- 4/5
The Hotel is nice . Is old but nice , the problem is noise , you can hear everything that happens outside. But is a ok place , the restaurant is amazing great food
- 4/5
Nice comortable bed a good resturant with good menu. In a good spot for getting around. A basic breakfast provided kept you going till lunch time.
- 5/5
Very clean for an old and very cute boutique like hotel! Crazy it didn’t have ac but it wasn’t needed and the windows were perfect with great breeze
- 5/5
Great property with friendly staff and comfortable rooms.
- 3/5
Place was near a lot of dining places. Conveniently close to 630 Jones patio bar. Staff was friendly. Only issue I had was that when at checkin, they tried to change my booking to another hotel that I didn’t not reserve for. When asked additional questions as to why my room wasn’t held onto, he just responded by okay okay I’ll check you in here… after checking everything was smooth and easy.
- 5/5
Very close to lots of bars and restaurants. Very clean and friendly staff. Very nice hotel for the price.
- 4/5
Small hotel , good size room, very comfortable and clean
- 3/5
Overall convenient very close to Union square but the area is very dirty, hotel is dated, and walking the wrong way will put you in the tenderloins.
- 5/5
Good value… Affordable rates… one of the best deals in SF.
- 4/5
BEAUTIFUL PROPERTY. restroom extremely small but over all amazing! great staff! even gave us extra time in the morning with no ask! I thought that was nice of them. 10/10 recommend valet at property
- 2/5
The people on the front desk were nice and lovely and helpful that people are cleaning the rooms helpmates they stole $100 from my curvy plushy and I really didn’t appreciate that. That is my hard work on money.
- 3/5
district ,the noise around terrible, different kind of addict people around causing trouble. Police, Ambulances, firefighters every minute around. Crazy.
- 4/5
Clean and comfortable stay while on family vacation.
- 3/5
Cons: The area was not what we expected – we understand it’s the city, but it was a lot more dangerous than we anticipated. Would not return to this hotel solely because of the neighborhood. Loud fights from neighboring apartments and people on the street screaming profanities. Open drug use within half a block of the hotel. Lots of vagrant and mentally ill people loitering outside the hotel lobby. It was hard to get a good nights rest because of the amount of noise coming from the street. That’s really our only complaint.
- 4/5
The hotel has an excellent balance of quality and price, almost low price for the location. My only disappointment was the breakfast. The offerings were fine, pastries fruit yogurt, but served in the lobby, with very little seating.
- 5/5
Great service
- 5/5
I loved this hotel and the look of the building. Excellent room service and friendly staff.
- 3/5
Requested an upper floor room away from the street and got a second floor unit right next to the street. Terribly noisy. Rooms are small and showers are even smaller. Poor insulation so quite cold
- 2/5
Why too small
- 4/5
Staff was great. The location is a bit iffy at night.
- 4/5
GREAT TIME
- 2/5
hotel was good, especially for the price. but the area was not good at all, almost had my tires slashed and heard people screaming many times in the night. if your going to stay here dont bring a car and stay inside at night.
- 4/5
The staff was great and the room too but the phone in the room didn’t work and the bath had no seal for the drain. The street was noisy, but hotel well located.
- 4/5
Building and hotel is really unique and beautiful. Restaurant next to it great as well but the area is so noisy, unsafe and dirty. Unfortunately that is Sanfran downtime after covid but looks like it’s slowly improving.
- 4/5
The staff were friendly, the breakfast was good and the happy hour glass of wine was a nice touch. It was a bit noisy but that’s to be expected in downtown San Francisco - lots of sirens etc. Overall we had a lovely stay
- 4/5
Good for the price you pay. My advice is to take a few laundry freshener sheets to put in between your clothes. The hotel building is old, so there’s a damp smell in the air. It’ll make your clothes stink.
- 1/5
The room with a King size bed had an extremely small bathroom. One could barely fit in the shower. The bathroom door was a sliding door and did not close properly. There was no AC and if one opened the windows one could not sleep with the noise of homeless people yelling in the middle of the night and police sirens. I couldn’t sleep. I will never book this hotel again. The only positive is that it had valley parking for $65 overnight.

Crew said it was a great stay

Lo que no me gusto fue que todos los ruidos del hotel lo sientes en la habiatacion

Room was quite small, "free breakfast" was more like a snack, and worst of all was the heat. There's no AC, but on top of that the heating kept turning on. I tried asking the front desk to turn it off, but even so it seemed to keep heating throughout the night. It was unbearably warm and thought it ended up cooling down slightly, it was still uncomfortable by morning. At this time the radiator was still hot to the touch in the morning, which meant it was still heating up my room.

Historic property. The location is great. It’s got a lot of charm you’d expect from a property of its age, though it’s very well kept.

Good!

The front desk staff was very helpful. The breakfast was minimal, but it was appreciated.

Staff was very nice and accommodating. Charming small Hotel, located right by union square. Because of this, it can also be noisy at night… but a reasonable price made it worthwhile. Good coffee and donuts/bagels in the morning.

The Andrews Hotel is a boutique style hotel in lower Nob Hill area of San Francisco. Union Square, cable cars and Market St are a short walk away. The staff is friendly and helpful.

The area is still up and coming but very walkable to the conference and shops and dining. The restaurant was really good and other ones near by. Tea and coffee all day and in the room. Hot showers! Digital TV. Good heater. No ac but ceiling fan was good and great price! No parking on site but near by in and out lot!

We LOVED The Andrews hotel! The vintage feel and look, the customer service, the quaint rooms all made our trip one we won't forget! We would definitely stay here again for short visits.

This is a very old hotel. They are kind and they are conscience. If something is not working they come to your and fix it properly. I love everyone that work there. They also have a very old elevator. You cannot fit more than 4 people in it plus one bag each. I will go there as long as it is open. And so far I believe it is 70 years.

Staff are friendly and welcoming. The location feels cozy. Lots of convenient places to eat. We enjoyed the complimentary happy hour wine at 5-6pm and the breakfast. Enjoyed our stay. Really good experience.

On the listing it says that they have parking available. What is not stated is that the parking is Valet and is $52 a night! This parking was also the only way to ensure that my car wouldn’t get towed at night. I knew that I would need a security deposit but was not expecting it to be only $40 cheeper than the room it’s self ($150) and I was not planning on it being that much and almost didn’t have money for my trip or gas back home, I will say that they were very accommodating and the deposit was back in my account within the hour, the elevator was not the best and due to how it works my dad and I stuck to the stairs. The room itself wasn’t the worst, the bed was comfortable and served its purpose, the bathroom was very small and when taking a shower I barely had any room to move. The morning we left checkout went fine but another thing they forgot to mention was that I couldn’t get my car until 8. They noticed I was upset and I ended up getting it 20 min early. The hotel was accommodating for each of my issues but still I don’t think I would recommend this place or go back purely based on communication. I also was not told how much the deposit was until AFTER they ran my card.

Nice, clean, small property with simple charm. We did reserve a room with 3 people and they were only going to give us one bed. However, in the end we received a small room with 2 beds. It was sufficient for a quick overnight stay in the city.

All in all, its a 3 star hotel, so adequate. I like to support an independent business but feel we would have been more comfortable in a hotel owned by a chain.

Good size for solo traveller and perfect for night stay

This property was clean and connected to it was a wonderful restaurant named FINO. In the morning they served bagels, donuts, and fruit. Coffee, tea and water all day. A free glass of wine in the evening. Steep stairs but they do have an elevator. Will definitely go back.

The Andrew hotel was cute and simple but it had the basic needs and was located within walking distance to very good food and attractions. Would recommend for short but sweet stays

Nice character.

The rooms are entirely too close together and you can’t get any good sleep because you hear every conversation from the other guests, every door close, the trash man constantly working outside and this was all on the 6th floor! Way too noisy!

Very loud during the night. Could not sleep before important conference.

We were there recently for a girls weekend, so we didn’t need anything “fancy”. The hotel was clean and staff was friendly. I’m from Florida, and wasn’t expecting it, but they do not have ac in the hotel/rooms (luckily the office had a small fan for us to use!) The location was pretty good (few blocks from Union Square) one direction, however, if you go a couple of blocks in the opposite direction, it’s not the best part of town (it’s known as “The Tenderloin”). We never felt unsafe, we just stayed away from that area. Overall, if I went back for a girls trip, we’d stay again, but if I went with my husband for the weekend, I think we’d want something a little bit fancier if that makes sense.

A great place to stay at a reasonable price! The neighborhood is conveniently located and accessible via BART.

It was a fine stay especially for the price. Staff was very nice. I was on the sixth floor which had an off-putting smell. The bed was very firm and pillows quite small with one pillowcase that had a stain. The desk in the room is almost too small to use and the tv is almost laughably small. The bathroom sink constantly dripped. Again, for the price, it was fine.
