Reviews
The hotel's location is consistently praised, being close to the beach, zoo, and other attractions. However, the staff's rude behavior is a recurring complaint across many reviews.
- Convenient location
- Clean and updated rooms
- Rude staff
- Noise issues and lack of soundproofing

Comfortable bed, large newly remodeled bathroom.

Our Second time staying and we still enjoyed our stay. Will still be coming back again next year!

Great place!
- 3/5
Convenient location.

Other than not accommodating a handicap parking for me because I did not order the handicap room and I wasn’t in a wheelchair. It was a pleasant hotel to stay the room and staff were pleasant. I would stay here again.👍
- 5/5
Very clean and easy stay.
- 5/5
Great location and the room was very clean. Free parking is a real treat in San Francisco and it’s next to one of the best coffee places Java Beach!
- 4/5
Front staff can be more friendly and attentive.
- 1/5
The reservation clerk was quite rude, so that’s how it started. I’m an older adult driving a Lexus. He treated me as though I were a potentially dangerous criminal. But even if I’d roared up on a Harley that’s no reason to treat a guest badly. He came out to peer suspiciously at my car license, and wouldn’t help me figure out how to get to my room . The place is a bit of a labyrinth. It’s a non smoking establishment- I almost choked on the marijuana on my floor. And by the way, no elevator so forget ease of settling in. It might be that these were prom goers, but my first night very loud guests partied until six am. Other lodgers complained but no one fixed the problem. Room was reasonably clean except no one emptied the trash can. I can forgive a lot, and maybe I’m just being sensitive, but being treated so nastily after a long exhausting drive really bothered me. If others don’t mind that kind of high handed treatment they’re welcome to book at this motel.
- 4/5
This property had free parking and was convenient location to the San Francisco zoo. They let us check in 30 minutes early which was nice but they were not very hospitable about it. I did not see any vending machines. No elevator only stairs so difficult to stay here if you have mobility issues, our room was basic, clean and quiet.
- 3/5
Room was clean but the mattress was bad. You get what you pay for. It was fine.
- 4/5
Overall it was a good experience and we would stay there again!
- 5/5
Good service!! Close to the beach !!
- 3/5
Pro: Location Walking distance to SF Zoo and beach. Excellent coffee/breakfast/sandwich shop steps away. Target store and Lucky grocery store nearby Close to SFSU campus, Park Merced and Stonestown Mall. Taraval Street is a couple blocks north of the Mirage Inn and along this street you will find restaurants, bars, karaoke, coffee shops and everything else you might need/want while in town. Pro: Security and Safety Main doors on building lock on a set schedule so little or no random people walking around Parking garage seemed safe by SF standards. No issues during a 5 night stay. Don’t leave valuables in car. Con: No elevator. Be prepared to carry belongings up at least two staircases. No maid service during multi-night stay. Had to make special requests and management seemed reluctant to provide. Cleaning staff however was eager to help once they realized a tip would be offered by guest as compensation for efforts. Acceptably clean. Con: Thin pillows. King bed for two guests had only three pillows. Also, only two bath towels for two guests. Con: The security doors offer safety but also slam shut shockingly loud. Recommend ear plugs if your room is near a security door. Will definitely wake a sleeping baby. Con: Front desk staff is gruff. Don’t expect a conservation or any exchange of peasantries.

Rooms were clean and it's a great location near the beach. We also enjoy going across the street for delicious food and drinks! Very convenient.

clean room non friendly staff
- 5/5
This is a great spot near the SF Zoo in the Sunset district. Rooms have been recently remodeled and bed was super comfortable. It is an older property, but don't be fooled. Tucked between and market with awesome deli (George's zoo) and a coffee shop to cover all of your bases.
- 4/5
Parking was terrible, but thats to be expected in San Francisco. Room was clean and updated, felt safe.
- 3/5
Been staying here for four years because the property is close to SFSU. The staff just seem to be pissed off with every minor request (I.e., check in, requesting an ironing board that should have been in the room) and they have been like this the entire 4 years. No extra fee for parking is a big plus. I just wish the staff was more friendly. Rooms are always clean.
- 3/5
Bed. Sheet old
- 2/5
Don’t ask for extra pillows cause you’re not gonna get any, you get what you pay for, very tacky place. Will never stay here again. ✌
- 3/5
I specifically asked for a handicap parking for my disabled son. When I got there there were two open handicap spots and the staff asked me to park in the garage anyways. The room was clean but not cleaned thoroughly.

Everything was great except for the way the front desk people treated you. Not polite and no smiles.
- 3/5
Very dirty
- 3/5
The room was fairly clean, no bugs or anything but there were several hairs in the shower. Staff are not friendly or welcoming whatsoever. There was no breakfast or coffee even though the website says free breakfast. Typical San Francisco experience really.
- 2/5
The sheets were clean but the floor needed to be swept and the microwave had a hole in the glass so I wasn’t comfortable using it. The bathroom was nice and modern though it also needed to be swept, but there was no hot water for the shower. When I called the front desk they said to let it run for a few minutes, I informed them I had already for almost 20 minutes. They then asked if I had tried the hot at max heat, I said yes, then said “well don’t do that” and hung up before I could say I had tried lesser temperatures too. The lady at check in was nice enough but not particularly accommodating but that could have been policy vs manner so I don’t blame her. The guy on the phone was awful. For the price and distance I’d be willing to give it another chance but definitely wasn’t particularly won over this time. Great location though.
- 5/5
Clean and nice location. The staff didnt interact too much but that’s okay. Great stay
- 4.5/5
The room was clean and quiet. Parking was very tight, but available and free. Staff was friendly and helpful. I’m keeping this as my number one place to stay when we go to San Francisco There are no elevators and you must climb stairs from the parking up to the rooms. But for the price and the amenities it’s worth the extra effort. And I am in my 60s my husband is in his 70s.

However, no lifts so you will need to carry your bags up. Would have still given it 5 stars but the front desk staff did not seem happy we were there to check in.

Room was nice, clean, with a good bathroom. Close to beach and breakfast/coffee place. Right across street from zoo, 3 miles from Golden Gate Park. Parking safe, no charge. Check in staff could be more friendly.

I like only ocean near hotel and all venue so old

Staff was friendly & the room was fairly clean. Convenient parking.

Free parking, nice room and great location!
- 5/5
Clean room with a nice bathroom and bed. Can be a little noisy with lots of car sounds.

I never leave reviews but STAY FAR AWAY from here horrible
- 4/5
Parking was easy. The heating and cooling worked well. The room was clean.
- 5/5
Convenient onsite parking and close to SFSU.
- 4/5
Nice cleaning staff. Front desk, difficult. On site parking is no good. It is available but very tight spaces air conditioner works very well. Decent water pressure.
- 3/5
Not so friendly staff , over price for the type of room
- 4/5
- 3/5
Nice area, walking distance to the beach and free parking is a bonus. Neg- bed was hard and pillows were flat.
- 3/5
The location is great. The shampoo and the soap are very cheap. We are running out of shampoo one evening but no one answered at the front desk.

Very clean room, beds little stiff, rooms big and updated, bathroom fan didn’t work. Everything else worked as it should. Parking was small and awkward but always had a parking spot. Front desk lady seemed to be in bad mood. Overall pretty good. Checking in and out was very easy . Free WiFi was nice cable tv.

Had a great stay
- 1/5
Cleaning staff is great. This property needs different mgmt. They are rude, they harrass, they duacriminate. They argue wirh practically every guest and yell. They sais they do not care about ratungs or reviews. I woyls not carry them on my travel platform.
- 1/5
Offoce managers husband and wife are rude, argumentative. With me and my family 3 adults. We could hear them arguing with other guests. All of their reviees are 1 star you cannot give zero stars. They discriminate and harrass you verbally.
- 5/5
Parking was the best I've had at a motel in SF. Our room was clean and had a nice bathroom. Affordable, nice place to stay.
- 3/5
Room was clean, quality was good, the bathroom and overall amenities in the room were solid. Little noisy, but most hotels have pretty thin walls, and this is near a major thoroughfare. Not bad, though, and while the parking garage was small and pretty tight, it was great to not have to worry about parking, and the location was solid. Customer service was a little abrupt and kind of curt, but I didn't need much, so it wasn't a deal-breaker.
- 5/5
Secured underground parking. Renovated rooms. Fair rates.

The managers were extremely unprofessional, rude, and somewhat threatening. They displayed anger when my son checked in, throwing his ID and credit card back at him. We watched him hide in the back room while a customer was confirm receipt charges.
- 3/5
The receptionists are horrible. They are unfriendly and in a bad mood all the time, it seems. The room was clean, large and good. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was fine and stocked with towels. There was no shampoo, soap or conditioner.
- 1/5
Terrible staff. Tried to charge extra and would hide from the customers. The owner works the day and night shifts and is always grumpy. Do not stay here.
- 5/5
We had a good no issues
- 3/5
Great location to everything. Java beach coffee shop right next door along with a pizza shop. I would probably stay here again. A little run down with no personality but that’s okay. If you want that maybe go stay downtown. Oh and parking was included which was a huge bonus. The spots are tight so anything bigger than a minivan might have some issues.
- 4/5
Market across the street has excellent sandwiches and friendly staff. Cafe down the street also good food and staff. Zoo is across the street and Ocean Beach is a few blocks down the street. Can walk along the new Great Highway Park to Golen Gate Park .

The front desk staff is not pleasant. The woman who took my information seemed annoyed at my presence and did not explain the purpose of the additional charge. When asked if my room was in a less noisy location away from the cultural center she seemed argumentative as I tried to e plain why I didn’t want a room near the center. The dirty bathroom had someone else’s pubic hair in the shower, the floors look like they haven’t been mopped for a while, the paint touch ups are terrible, the room dull, the bed had two thin sheets as the linens, the coffee maker had one very old set of coffee supplies, and the room had absolutely no noise insulation. Do not even try to park a full sized cat in the parking lot!

Clean basic upgraded motel. Decent size, fair price, micro, fridge, and parking a plus. Downsides: front desk staff are brusque rather than friendly (not a big deal); pillows pretty tough; not noise insulated, so you hear other guests in hallway. This can be hard if you are a light sleeper. I’d stay here again if I brought ear plugs, a nice pillow, and a big “QUIET”sign to tape to the door.

Edited Version: The staff was extremely rude and unwilling to accommodate simple requests. We asked for a couple of extra towels so we could help bathe my father, who is disabled, and the staff acted like it was a problem. They also refused to allow my car with handicap plates to park in the handicap parking. Later, they even called us in the middle of the night accusing us of parking there, even though we had parked in the basement. My father is in a wheelchair and cannot walk, which made the situation even more frustrating. When I asked a simple question about checking out early and whether there might be a refund, the staff member laughed at me and said, “What do you think this is?” Overall, the staff treated us like we were a burden rather than guests. It was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. I would never recommend this place and would not stay here again. No one should be treated this way, especially when caring for a disabled family member.

The rooms are very modern and the beds very comfortable. Lots of on-site off the road parking they do lockdown at 10 PM which is nice for security but difficult if you’re checking in late.

Bathroom was brand new so that was nice but the interior was poorly maintained. Chipped paint and broken fridge. It leaked onto the floor and staff never responded to it.

Room was clean and comfortable. I stayed at the superior room that comes with 2 double beds and has a living room area with kitchenette. Kitchenette has microwave, refrigerator, , sink and cabinets. No kitchen utensils though. No elevator. It is just a 2 level building. Parking space inside the building was a plus Coffee maker with complementary coffee and cups 4 minute walk to the beach Pizza “Pasquales” right beside the hotel is really good. We checked in at midnight and check in was easy. We just called them when arived at the front desk and he came quickly to assist us. Nice area and surroundings.

Too much noise from housekeeping in the morning (7am). If I knew getting the deluxe king being right next to the laundry room…hence the housekeepers gossiping at the top of the morning, I would have paid extra to stay elsewhere. Room was generally nice and clean. Only problem was the noise both mornings during my stay.

I struggle to sleep most of the time when traveling. This was actually one of the most restful weekends of sleep I have had in a long time, home or on the road. The beds were comfortable, the right amount of firmness with just a slight softness to them, and the pillows were firm but not too thick. Very pleased heading home.

I was going to give them 4 stars but their location isn't really their fault. I looked around before staying there. And knew the restaurants locally were limited. In variety. The hotel is clean and has been remodeled and done quite nicely. If you need a room with a microwave refrigerator into bed. This is definitely a score for the price. The beds were comfortable. The pillows were nice and the air worked great.

Inside the property was clean. There is virtually nothing around the property. TV in the room was very small as well.

This time around, the lady front agent was rude and provided very poor customer service. No welcome words were uttered. When I got to the room I asked to transfer coz it was for handicapped room. I booked online at Expedia for a standard room. She insisted that I had a handicap room reserved. She then asked me to contact online to transfer room for something basic request. Instead, she hang up on me after telling her that I’m the customer who has a basic request, instead she said “ but you don’t own the building.” Also, told her that there’s a lot of long hair scattered on the floor, I gathered it. She also charged my credit card (pending), perhaps for deposit for security and later drop off, but she should have explained and told me that. When I asked for clarification on key card, she would say “OMG”, making a customer feel stupid. It was such a terrible experience. I like the location and proximity to the beach and family/friends nearby, leaving you if you want to stay there again.

When I asked for clarification on key card, she would say “OMG”, making a customer feel stupid. It was such a terrible experience. I like the location and proximity to the beach and family/friends nearby, leaving you if you want to stay there again.

Location Room heated up quickly Light shown in my room all night Very noisy machinery outside in the middle of the night. Also noises in my room at all hours from the refrigerator or on other side of walls, not sure Parking lot was full when I came home around midnight so I parked up above in a parking space and got an angry call from management at 7:30 in the morning to move my car Cheap coffee maker

Overall it’s one night business trip. It was comfortable and quiet at night. The area deemed to be in residential area and felt safe. The only thing was the housekeepers were very loud in the morning in the hallway and woke me up. The room cleanliness should be observed thoroughly before the guests arrived.

The staff were all fighting and arguing with each other. The service was unacceptable, and I would never return. I felt like I was being punished.

The AC worked, but the coffee pot didnt heat water. Three pillows for two people, and NO elevator. If you are handicapped like me, you wont be happy.

Very nice hotel, no elevator but staff was very helpful and offered to change our room to the first floor when we came in with a stroller. Quiet, clean and convenient public transport :)

Staff was friendly, parking was plentiful and room was clean and comfortable. We couldn’t get the WIFI to work-maybe a better router is needed or our room was too far away.

Retired airline pilot - have stayed in literally a thousand different hotels. This one had a staff that was the least friendly I have seen

The lady behind the desk was terrible

I have stayed at this hotel a handful of times. This most recent stay was disappointing. The staff is not friendly. They do not smile. And if you make a request, they seem irritated. That was easy to ignore on my previous stays because the rooms were clean and quiet. This last time, one of the sheets had a stain. One of the nightstands, light did not work. I had a friend share the cost of the room with me.But they would not let her park in the parking lot. Only one car in the lot. The next morning there seem to be plenty of parking. I believe these points are all fixable. I hope they fix them.

Great stay.!

Yes and yes!
- 5/5
Great location! Walking distance to beach and fabulous coffee shop.
- 3/5
Cons** You have to let the hot water faucet run for 4-5 minutes to get hot water, not an energy saver. Parking slots are very tight; if the garage is full, your car will get dented by the next door. Poor WiFi connection. Communication with the managers/owners is not so easy. When you bring up a simple question or concerns, they will raise their voice and yell at you; this may not be personal, but cultural. In some cultures, raising one's voice and yelling is a sign of victory and being correct, but this is not a way to run a business.
- 5/5
Rooms are clean and well maintained. Air conditioning is a bit loud for that unit. Walking distance to the beach and zoo.

Rooms were filthy and had bugs running around…
- 2/5
Checking in was a difficult wait and was met with being yelled at by the way I was persistent with the bell. I didn’t think it worked. I rang just once… waited 3 minutes later pressed once waited… after 15 minutes pressed 3 times and different person came out and instead of answering my question he kept repeating credit card and license plate… after that no communication. Seems preference would be to have money sent in without guests. I was given a room for disabled and did enjoy the larger shower and bathroom. Would not go back.

I really don’t want to leave a negative review but the owners of this property seriously deserve it. Look at all the responses by the management of this property to all negative feedback. They do not care one bit. The owners are rude as hell. No hello, no thank you… Just a terrible condescending attitude and poor manners. To the owners: If you do not enjoy being in the hospitality industry then get out of it. And learn some manners and learn to adapt to the local culture otherwise don’t complain when people badmouth Indians. You are one of the many out there giving Indians a bad rap in foreign countries. You guys seriously need to learn some manners, because some day someone crazy enough will punch your faces with that bad attitude.

If you ask to change the sheets. Hey, would tell you? Get the f*** out of the hotel. And he would. Not give you e a refund
- 4/5
Parking spots are extremely early. Make sure you get there early so you can secure a spot wide enough to park in.
- 5/5
Overall was good!
- 3/5
Liked proximity to public transit. Loved proximity to the ocean and especially to the Great Highway multiuse path for walking and biking. Liked the excellent Java cafe next door. Was not pleased that some random person was intermittently loudly pounding on a nearby door at 2:30 in the morning off and on for quite some time. Did not like that I tried to use the landline in my room to summon help, and realized the landline was not functioning. Was not thrilled that when I emailed the property about this, and they never responded. I did summon the police, and almost immediately after doing so, the pounding stopped.
- 5/5
Room had comfortable beds and a modern bathroom that worked The lighting in the bathroom was not quite adequate. I would have preferred an upper floor. Opening a window on the street level did not feel safe.
- 1/5
photo and reality different
- 1/5
The bedsheets were disgusting
- 4/5
The room was remodeled nicely. The access to the lobby is not ideal, tho, through marrow stairs from the garage below. Appreciated the free parking and great location. Bed was comfortable, linens good. All in all, very worth the price.
- 4/5
It was clean and close to our event we were attending.
- 3/5
Room was clean. I found the room late and didn’t get there until roughly 10:45 PM. Attendant was livid he had to check me in. Stressed all check-ins must happen before 10PM, which I can’t find posted anywhere. Outside of the one rude staff I interacted with everything was pretty pleasant and very acceptable for the price.
- 4/5
room very clean. another towel for the shower floor should be routine. need a bigger tv. they're cheap now. otherwise, nice.
- 2/5
Pictures on website looks beautiful. Real life looks dirty, couple bugs flying around, and smells bad. Especially the bathroom. Even sprayed down with half a can of air freshener still smells after 10mins. Thin walls/ceilings, waking up around 1am to people/kids running around in the upstairs unit for an hour was nice. Owner/receptionist RUDE. Never staying again.

Well maintained older property. Clean. Front desk was pleasant at check-in but seemed really put out when I asked for more coffee (I stayed three nights). I'll stay here again if in the area.
- 1/5
The way we were treated was dismissive and rude, leaving us feeling discriminated against and unwelcome. Service dogs are protected by law, and no guest should ever have to face this kind of refusal. This experience was incredibly disappointing, and I strongly caution anyone against staying here.
- 3/5
It was fine, not spectacular but not bad. The parking is rough. There’s no breakfast, but there’s a great cafe just a few steps away. The owner was preoccupied during check-in, so not super friendly
- 1/5
I called that my fight was running behind that I will be there at 4:00pm and when I arrived there was only 1 car parked in the underground parking and still proceeded to check in walk up the stairs to check in no one was at the front desk to check us in waited no one came had no choice but to book another hotel as Iam checking in to the other hotel I get notification that they are still trying to charge my credit card I had to call them to explain that I came no one was there and to stop attempting to charge my card so be aware with this hotel

Affordable, clean stay in SF directly across from the Zoo, walk to Ocean Beach. Java Beach Café is right next door, highly recommend the Irish Soda Bread. We were here for Golf and it is 10 minutes drive to Harding Park. Be sure to take your clubs to your room because the parking lot is not gated. BUT, free parking, family friendly, safe, affordable…I highly recommend the Mirage for a short stay.
- 4/5

- 3/5
I was pleasantly surprised on how nice the room was and how comfy the bed was. Shower head was great. Room was very clean. The room had several outlets with USB and USBC options! Having free, but very tight parking, was nice. If the man working the desk had been kind I would’ve scored this place higher. If you don’t care about the front desk personnel then you’ll be fine here!
- 2/5
Very inconvenient parking and (I am assuming the owner) was very rude to my grandmother when she asked to stay parked in the handicapped area for 1 hour. They have a handicapped parking permit, but the Mirage only allows you to park there to check in. You then have to park in a basement area. Very inconvenient. We were trying to find a place close to SFSU as I am enrolled there and family will be coming to visit. This is definitely not the spot.
- 5/5
Little nice hotel. Host could be a little bit friendly. But I do recommend it!!!
- 4/5
We enjoyed our stay at the Mirage. Located next to a delicious pizza place . Market with you my sandwiches and a cute coffee shop. Staff was nice. The parking is tight but convenient and free. Our room was great with a view of the ocean. The room had a fridge and cooktop but no dishes and the microwave did not work. Newly renovated and comfortable beds. Ac worked great I would definitely recommend the Mirage for a stay in the sunset . Definitely quite even though we were right in the road.
- 2/5
Not a bad building and rooms but very unhelpful and rude staff.

Great location
- 1/5
When I checked-in, I killed the man with kindness as I just feel life is better if we are friendly to one another. He was decent. Certainly not "friendly" but not terribly rude. Yet. Then, I lost my room keys before I had even entered the room. (They fell out of my pocket at the restaurant next door and I found them an hour later.) When I went to replace my room keys, I was met with the wife. Well, holy cow was this woman as nasty as possible. And for what? Because I accidentally lost my keys? She was mean, rude, dismissive and just a plain ol' jerk. Again, I killed her with kindness. Then, when I found the room keys I returned them to her husband and he had his turn to be slightly rude but not a big deal. Then, on my final day of three days (a Sunday and not a 3-day weekend) I asked for a late check out. Their check out is at 11am and it was 10:30am when I asked. I had gone to breakfast and got back a bit later than I hoped. However, they flat out lied to me and told me the room was already booked and they refused to give me a late check out. I can not remember that ever happening. Finally, their parking garage is ridiculous. It is impossible to fit a car in there without damaging it and that is exactly what happened. I might sue.
- 3/5
What you see in pictures its true, its very clean the only thing that bothers me is soon you check in you can smell the strong " fabuloso" cleaning solution they use .The walls are thin I can hear baby crying at night and heavy foot walking next door early in the morning. Just stayed 1 night not enough time to explore around it
- 3/5
She gave me the room key and said not sure if it's ready but you can go check. The check-in is at 2PM and I got there at 1:40PM.
- 2/5
The front desk was rude and not freindly at all. People book these hotels for a reason to have a nice friendly welcoming but instead the front desk is rude. Will not be booking with this hotel again.
- 5/5
it is close to work there is nothing I dilike
- 5/5
Staff was very kind. Easy check in and check out. Easy parking. Thank you.
- 5/5
Great location
- 5/5
Really close to the Zoo and in a great area!
- 3.5/5
It was across the street from the zoo which is what we planned to do. It was also really close to many Muni stops. You can also see the ocean from the sidewalk so it's in walking distance. So basically the location is really the only thing we liked about this hotel. Staff wasn't very friendly. Check in is at 2, we showed up at 2:30 and it took them a while to even come to the front desk. I actually had to call them after pressing their little buzzer quite a few times. And then their machine that you sign on was glitching like crazy and he blamed me for it even though it was flashing when I walked up. Finally get to our room and it's being held open by the lock so I slowly go in and the beds aren't made, there's no blankets so I start to wonder if our room was really ready. We went ahead and went in and I went to go get the rest of our stuff out of the car and housekeeping came by freaking out cuz she wasn't ready for us and the blankets were still in the laundry. I tried to explain to her that they let us check in but there was a language barrier so I just went back in the room. Or at least I tried, but the key would not open the door after multiple attempts it finally opened, it was like it was sticking on something. Luckily my family was on the other side so they let me in but I wanted to make sure the key would open the door and it did so I let it go. Then housekeeping came by with our blankets later and was still kind of freaking out about the room not being ready and I just said sorry but it was fine we didn't mind waiting for the blankets. I don't even know why I said sorry cuz it was 45 minutes after check-in when we got to the room so it should have been ready. So fast forward to us leaving and coming back a few times and it was a crap shoot whether the door would work or not. It wasn't like it was the key not working cuz the green would light up you just would try to open the door and it was like someone locked it on the other side and then randomly it would open. Which is nerve-wracking when all of your stuff is in there... Once we realized it would eventually open it was just something we dealt with... Anyway we probably won't stay at this hotel again.
- 1/5
The parking space are very small. The hotel smell real bad right when I walked in to lobby. I would not recommend to stay there. And, I never will booked a room there again. What a bad experience I ever had on a vacation.
- 2/5
Very noisy. Walls are thin. Bed sucked. I didn’t even stay the full night.
- 4/5
Very clean room. Easy check in and the staff were very friendly. About exactly what we needed for a quick stay!
- 3/5
Internet was spotty. The room had an overwhelming smell. I am guessing their cleaning products were the culprit . But the worst was there was a tsunami warning and due to our recent trauma with evacuations and fire we left. They would not refund the last night of our stay.
- 1/5
the staff was very rude.
- 5/5
The room was clean. Just had basic tv no cable or streaming available. But at the price all you should expect is a clean room in a safe environment and you can get that at the mirage.
- 1/5
The hotel itself was fine. The owner is toxic though. I tried getting the wifi password again after the original paper was lost and whom I assume to be the owner made it out like I personally insulted his existence. You'll get better service at a bottom of the barrel motel 8. I NEVER write reviews and this guy made me go out of the way to write one. Why did he get into hospitality just to have a stick up there?
- 5/5
Was nice. Make sure your windows are locked
- 3/5
The building is old and dated, but fine for a short, quick stay.
- 3/5
Parking was white nuckled small parking spaces, but safe, underground
- 4/5
Very easy one night stay, staff very friendly, garage parking was easy too. Rooms were comfy and bathrooms renovated, I was surprised only one garbage can in the room, minor annoyance. Not the hotels fault but the hallway was loud with voices at 7-8am and a crying baby for over an hour until 10pm.
- 4/5
Quiet place to stay after work, free parking provided.
- 5/5
Great, quiet place in SF with parking space.
- 3/5
Close to SFSU which is nice
- 4/5
Very adequate place to stay which is basically service free. Renovated rooms and good parking arrangement. Would definitely stay again
- 3/5
Room was clean and quiet but hotel overall could use some rehabilitation.
- 3/5
Was good for one night.
- 5/5
Cons: $250 deposit.
- 1/5
I’m just not a fan of San Francisco or California
- 4/5
The interior of the rooms have recently been remodeled, providing a nice modern look. I was disappointed that there was no vending machine. There really are no services provided by this hotel, other that what you get in your room (bed, bathroom, refrigerator, microwave, TV). Also, the room had a strong odor from what I believe was some sort of cleaning product. Which was strange, because the floor was not very clean.
- 2/5
The hotel smelled of curry at every corner. Check in was easy and he met us into the room early. The room was basic and clean. Distance to Ocean Beach and public transportation is great. My issue was the lack of communication and service. You’re on your own after checking in. You can ring the bell for service but no one comes out. There is no number you can call. Don’t ask questions unless you want to be scoffed at. And at check out, service was rude. Never again.
- 5/5
Everything was great. I would stay there again. The only one thing I did not appreciate was the man at the front desk calling me at 10:45 PM asking me to move my car from the upper level to the lower level.
- 5/5
As before clean basic no nonsense hotel, centrally located.
- 1.5/5
Dirty room. Greasy stains on sheets. No one at desk to replace them.
- 5/5
A very pleasant stay, thank you.
- 1/5
Rooms were nice but the property itself is small. Our room was right next to the custodian room and there was a lot of noise starting early in the morning. Someone also set off the fire alarm during our stay. I booked this room after doing some research in the area because I was going to a concert near by, I was told I had to check in before 10pm the day of my reservation, if I would’ve known this I wouldn’t have booked it and wasn’t able to cancel it to book somewhere else. I tried calling the hotel to see if there was anything they could do to accommodate a later check in and the guy who took my call was so rude about it. I understand policy and if there was nothing he could do but to immediately just be a snob was not okay. I wouldn’t book here again. Rooms are all down a small hallway and you can hear all the noise everyone makes like crying babies and staff loudly talking.
- 1/5
WiFi didn’t work, and when we mentioned it to the man, he said that no one else complained about it and that it must be our mistake. When we asked for a couple of extra coffee packets he tossed them at us instead of handing it over.
- 5/5
Very good and accommodating!
- 2/5
The room 213 fridge was to noisy making sounds all night barely slept
- 3/5
I needed a place in SF near 280 and this was the closest. Great location if you're going to the SF Zoo or other places on that side of town. No elevator which was OK. The salt air crushes any building near the beach and this place is rough around the edges and is a 2-star, albeit much better than a Motel 6-type place
- 5/5
Clean
- 5/5
I love staying here! As a solo female traveler who travels to San Francisco monthly to teach a class, I feel safe, enjoy the friendly owners, and love the price point. My room is always spotless I can walk barefoot and not worry. Across the street from the zoo, walkable to the ocean, and the best Pizza and Java Beach Cafe are next door! Life is great and affordable at Mirage Inn. After 14 trips here— this is my go to affordable most bang for your buck stay! Not a party hotel, it’s always quiet overnight and very safe.
- 4/5
Looks a little rough on the outside and the public spaces need some work, but overall I had a very pleasant stay with friendly staff and a clean and comfortable room.
- 5/5
We have stayed here many times and the hotel is no frills easy to park and access. Good service and friendly.
- 5/5
The Mirage Inn and Suite was a perfect location for our visit to the San Francisco Zoo. Our King room was perfect, with our view looking toward the zoo. The room and bathroom were immaculate and appeared to be newly remodeled. They staff were friendly and attentive.
- 3/5
It is what you pay for.
- 5/5
My room was very nice and clean
- 4/5
Parking included at no extra cost, close to the university, reasonably priced, clean, quiet.
- 1/5
Hotel manager is horrible. He gave us a room that smelled like cigarettes. When I asked to change rooms, first said he had no others. Then said we would have to pay cleaning fee to change rooms. I argued with him, and he kicked me out of hotel. This hotel is not recommended for anyone.
- 3/5
It was a bed and shower to sleep for the night.
- 4/5
Reasonable price and convenient location to go to SF
- 5/5
The manager stayed late, past the 10 pm check in time, as my train was late. He said he wouldn’t leave an old lady out on the street. I really appreciated it.
- 3/5
Located on a one way section of the road, and has maybe a dozen underground
- 3/5
I liked the bathroom/shower area that had been completely remodeled. No charge for parking was a plus.
- 1/5
The apartment was very dirty, the floor was dirty, the refrigerator was dirty, there was hair in the bathtub, the sheets smelled bad, the towels had stains, the apartment was cleaned every 2 days, the trash was not picked up, terrible
- 2/5
Check in counter staff was rude and unfriendly!
- 4/5
The on-site garage parking is very convenient
- 1/5
Poor hotel. Poor service.
- 3/5
There is no elevator! Dont bring your elderly parents that use a walker there! Not ADA compliant at all. Very rude people running the hotel. Not a fan! Won’t be back.
- 4/5
like the location
- 2/5
The actual room for the hotel was decent. It was clean, but man the lady at the front desk has absolutely no hospitality skills. She didn’t even say hello. She just asked me for my drivers license and credit card. There is nowhere to leave your bags if you need to Check out. This is a no-frills hotel.
- 1/5
Horrible Hospitality. For one, they would not let me cancel so I decided to get my money worth and stay the one night. The hotel states the rooms come with blow dryers so I did not pack my own. In the morning when I needed to use the blow dryer I realized the handle was getting extremely hot and had a melted warped bubble on the outside of the plastic casing, clearly not safe. I had my husband go down to the front desk to ask for a replacement. The man made him come back up to the 2nd floor to show the blow dryer, then when my husband went back had the audactiy to tell him that all blow dry handles get hot, THEY DON"T. Now I am extremely upset and I go down there to explain the blow dryer is unsafe and need a replacement He told me to bring my own and that he wouldn't get me one. I had to go buy my own just for the trip just to get ready as fast as possible and leave this place. The beds were also really itchy and felt like possible bed bugs or dust mites. We couldn't see any but had to end up sleeping on the top of the sheets because didn't feel right. I also still have 2 $250 holds on my credit card so hopefully those get removed asap or I'll need to dispute the charge with my bank.
- 2/5
Service team very loud. Can hear everyone everywhere. Very disruptive.
- 3/5
Location is good for zoo. The beach that is close you cannot swim. Not too bad for price. The George's zoo store next door has good sandwiches.
- 5/5
The hotel was convenient for places where we wanted to visit: the zoo and Golden Gate park. We were there on a clear day (no fog or windy) and enjoyed a stroll on Ocean Beach too. I was there with my elementary aged kid and felt secure at hotel and surrounding area. The rooms are newly renovated and parking was free and convenient.
- 1/5
Double smelled almost as bad. Will never go back here. Terrible customer service, badly maintained
- 4/5
The location is great and the room was recently remodeled. It was very clean. The one major thing to know is that they only allow one car per room. I met my wife there and we drove separately. This was a problem!
- 4/5
Room was clean and comfortable.
- 2/5
Clerk was very rude.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean property, and easy access to beach

I was told I am not allowed to park in the handicap parking spot even though I have a handy placer that I hang on my rear view mirror.
