Reviews
The hotel has a great location, close to attractions and dining options, with free parking. However, the property is old and could use some updates, with cleanliness being a concern for some guests. The staff is generally friendly but service can be inconsistent.

A very nice place to stay. The staff were more than helpful and very kind! I highly recommend this as a place to stay.

None really...the staff okay
- 5/5
this weekend was the escape from alcatraz triathalon and needed a local hotel to avoid parking/transportation hassles for a yacht club commitment. Staff was very helpful and accomodating.
- 5/5
Me and my sister traveling, perfect for us and area, we took uber so we didn’t need parking parking was small bit we still got uber eats a lot.

There was no breakfast provided, which is fine because the room rate was great! I have been staying at this little gem since the '80s, even before it was the Inn at the Golden Gate. I visit the City all the time and I always stay here.

Nothing They do not have free parking but you pay the price for a hotel with a parking lot. No breakfast.
- 4/5
The room itself was nice, clean, and well-equipped with plenty of towels in various sizes, extra pillows, a working hair dryer, and a digital safe that was easy to program. The TV remote and lights all worked, except for one bedside bulb that was burned out. My only major issue was finding hairs on the bedsheets. Worried about bugs or pests, I did a thorough inspection with my phone flashlight. Fortunately, I didn't find anything but the hair, so I decided to ignore it and slept fine, taking a shower in the morning. On the plus side, the toilet and shower were spotless, the outside ice machine was convenient, and the cleaning staff were incredibly friendly.

- 3/5
Good location. Very loud outside.
- 3/5
There were only two nearby restaurant options. One was extremely noisy and felt more like a bar, while the other around the corner closed at 2:00 PM and reopened at 5:30 PM. On Sundays it closed at 9:00 PM, and Mondays it was closed altogether. There’s also a pizza place on the same block with good food, plus a deli with no listed prices, which made ordering feel like playing the lottery. Other than that, the room was clean, and the location was okay with access to a couple of buses that made it easy to get around the city.

- 5/5
The room was clean and perfect for me, the location of the hotel was just right, easily walkable to the pier and bridge. There was a famous deli 2 doors up that did amazing food. Parking was good and the area safe. Staff were pleasant and helpful. I would return again without hesitation Nothing

Very good
- 3/5
It was a good motel for the price.everything was nearby. No microwave, no plug for bathtub,No parking spots available. I had to circle the area for a hour to finally find a spot 4 blocks away .it was my daughters prom out of our hometown so it made things very difficult. All around it was a clean, safe place I would stay again just no amenities or parking
- 5/5

The location next to the Presidio was wonderful, with a pizza shop with beer and outdoor seating right next to the Park. The room was very clean and very nice. The room had a fridge but no microwave or coffee maker. For check in or any other communication with the office, you stand outside through a "drive-thru" window. There is limited off-street parking, so if you can't get an off-street spot, you need to park on the street. We were able to park off-street the majority of our stay there. The off street parking we found was a block away.
- 4/5
This is a great motel choice in SF on Lombard, a mile west of the crooked part famous for tourists. Lombard is US101 to the Golden Gate Bridge and Marin County. This motel is a block off the US101, a few streets down from the Union Street shops and restaurants, and a few streets up from Chestnut Streets shops and restaurants. It is a block from an entry into the Presidio of SF, and half a mile from the Palace of Fine Arts, Chrissy field beach, Table Top Park, and the Marina Green and the Marina Safeway grocery store, and Fort Mason. The property itself is in a cluster of Motels of good value along Lombard of varying quality and size and price, but many are excellent value especially off peak season, when you can get a room for about $100. Here, you get free limited parking (about 6-7 spaces) free WiFi, and a clean room with everything you would expect, except there was no coffee maker in my room, otherwise full or queen bed, refrigerator, safe, good size desk, flat screen TV, AC/Heater, a little table for 2, full bathroom, decent lighting, and decent bathroom products (shampoo, conditioner, skin cream) in 2 sets of 3 little bottles good enough for 2 for 3-4 days. Housekeeping may not be everyday, or at least one day the maid didn’t come to work. I stayed 4 nights. It is a little noisy being close to US101, usually when Buses and large trucks pass 1/2 block away, but otherwise fairly quiet near the Presidio. Office staff was nice and friendly.
- 5/5
Comfortable, clean,
- 4/5
Besides that a very friendly staff I would certainly stay there again
- 3/5
The filtered water faucet did not work.. there’s also way too much noise. The room itself was nice, but something should be done regarding noise on the upper level.
- 5/5
The room was very well kept up and the location is great. Staff is very friendly.
- 4/5
It was very nice I would stay there again.
- 4/5
Despite the outside, looking outdated and ran down, the stay over all was good. Our host was very accommodating and friendly. It was a good price for the service and stay.
- 5/5
Upon arrival (late evening, early am) I rang bell and staff was prompt to attend. After the swift check in process I proceeded to my room. When I entered the room it was clean and spacious. There were complimentary toiletries, bar soap, hair shampoo & conditioner etc. parking is limited and free. Marina is overall a safe place.

- 4/5
Clean rooms.
- 5/5
Room was very clean. Great location. Staff was helpful and friendly.
- 5/5
good responsive staff. It is a budget hotel but close to the yacht club and functional A/C etc.
- 5/5
Was nice, never usually stay at a motel but it was better than some hotels I've stayed at. The beds were pretty comfortable as well and the only downside was that there wasn't some bottled water or coffee.
- 4/5
Room was clean, staff was rude. Had a door dash delivery and they bothered the driver.
- 5/5
I will definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
Only issues were no elevator to second floor and no microwave. Overall, very good experience. Close to Presidio Park.
- 4/5
Inn at Golden Gate is an older facility, but it is exceptionally maintained, very clean and quiet. We ate at the French restaurant around the corner from it and very much enjoyed our stay.
- 3/5
Fine
- 5/5
Great location, very quiet hotel. Feee parking was great. Good food options less then 100 yards away
- 5/5
This is a really cute place located in walking distance to the palace of fine arts. Note that the parking is very limited and you might have to park on the street, but there seem to be plenty around. Be sure to check out the money plant growing on the ceiling in the lobby.
- 5/5
Great location within walking distance of Presidio. Friendly Staff. Easy check in. Rooms were clean but had a little bit of wear and tear in the bathroom. Parking is a bit tricky, just make sure your reverse driving skills are good! Pretty spacious room. No coffee maker, but decent sized mini fridge. I would stay here again!
- 4/5
The location is great, and people who work there cleaning and doing maintenance are very pleasant. However, the place in general seems outdated and the room is not cleaned in detail. We could see stains on the doors and walls and a bit of mold is starting to grow in the bathroom; though, there are no bed bugs, and the mattresses are comfortable. I recommend reading in detail about the property amenities since there’s very limited parking; I counted only eight spots, and there is no microwave or refrigerator in the rooms.
- 4/5
Great neighborhood for walking. Small room but adequate. Parking difficult.
- 2/5
There was no microwave or coffee maker even in the reception
- 5/5
Good hotel with friendly staff. The rooms are clean.
- 3/5
Loved the general location next to the presidio, and on a quiet Short Street block off the main highway. But not enough parking and several homeless people lingering at the entrance.
- 4/5
Besides the parking challenge, it was a great place to stay. Friendly hotel manager at the desk, very clean rooms, and a great location.
- 2/5
Only good thing about this Motel is it's walking distance to the Presidio and the Palace of Fine Arts. The property is old and needs a lot of work and definitely needs to be updated. Parking is very smaa and tight and not enough spaces for all the rooms. All that and ot wasn't ceep, over $170 per night.
- 4/5
Close to attractions, not fancy, room was clean.
- 5/5
Close to Golden Gate Park
- 5/5
Location was perfect for us.
- 4/5
The rooms are clean and the the location is convenient for exploring the city. Bring ear plugs and eye mask if you are sensitive to city lights and noise.
- 4/5
Area is close to the Golden Gate and the Marina. You get what you pay for.
- 5/5
Very nice - but very small - motel. Walking distance to the Presidio. Had quite a few amenities for such a small motel. Even being right off a busy street, was relatively quiet. Please arrive as early as possible. There are limited parking spaces for the amount of rooms they have. First come, first serve. Don’t know where you would park if they were full. That’s probably the best tip you could be given for this location. All in all, would stay there again if need be.
- 4/5
Nice hotel, for what you pay for.
- 5/5

- 4/5
Room ok, parking is very limited and difficult to back out to get back on street
- 4/5
Ok
- 5/5
Friendly staff!
- 4/5
No refrigerator, no sandals
- 1/5
We didn’t even had a coffee machine neither in room not even in reception. I paid like $200+ and not able to get a coffee itself was terrible.
- 4/5
Good value for money, great location, the room was tidy and in good condition.
- 3/5
My wife and I both said it was the quiet stay in a hotel we have ever had which surprised us. On the other hand the shutters did not shut all the way and there was a light outside the window that was so bright I thought it was mid morning when I got up to use the bathroom at 2:30 AM. I bought some tape to keep them shut and that helped some. The wife said that place was clean, and she is an expert so I will take her word for it. The rooms are very tired but it is pretty tough to beat the location.
- 5/5
We stayed at the Inn at Golden Gate and found it clean, though a bit dated. It was cheap and exactly what we expected on a budget. The location was excellent, within walking distance to attractions, cafes, and restaurants. We’d stay there again.
- 5/5
Quick trip into the city for Race Committee; was the bay to breakers weekend so prices were a little high but I've stayed there before and it is reasonable.
- 4/5
Clean, friendly, only negative part was parking. Hard to find and limited
- 1/5
Bad service
- 3/5
Other residents very noisy
- 4/5
When we arrived we were told to not leave anything in our vehicle & to park at our own risk. The room could have been a little cleaner, but it was suitable for our needs.
- 5/5
Staff was great and accommodating ! Thank you!
- 5/5
I stayed here for 3 nights. Overall, it was a good experience. The check in and out process was easy and quick. This is a well-lit property located in a safe area of town. Staff were friendly, helpful, and professional. The room was exactly as pictured. It was clean, neat and everything was in working order. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. Although there were limited spaces for parking, it was never and issue. Free parking is a plus! I would definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
We were close to where we wanted to be. Uber was always quick to pick up at the location. Clean, nice & friendly, no coffee pot or any to offer! (that was the worst for me). No smart TV! ( That was the worst for my kid). We sleep grate.

N/A
- 5/5
The only issue is the limited walking distance options
- 5/5
Quite and peaceful
- 4/5
Good value property and nice location close to the bay
- 2/5
Questionable parking, service not always available, no dining facilities, uneasy location, noisy room with heating turned on.
- 5/5
Affordable reliable accommodation. Responsive front desk staff. Reasonable for price. Recommended.
- 2/5
Horrible parking availability. Typical SF street parking but the hotel lot was ridiculous. I would recommend it as a last chance stay.
- 5/5
The parking wasn't big enough. They mentioned a laundry facility but it wasn't available. It was just too congested and small
- 3/5
However, it’s hard to rest at night because you can hear your neighbors doing their own things. The biggest issue that keep me from coming back is the small mouse I saw creeping out of the bathroom and ran towards my bed when I was playing on my phone on the bed. There was two sightings of mouse poop on the beddings… The room service is good but still… seeing a mouse in the room will keep me away from this place forever…
- 5/5
Good location, no problems what so ever.
- 4/5
The property has very minimal parking but street parking is available so it would not be a big challenge during weekend. It is conveniently located to many near by places to visit. It is in a quiet area but not sure on the safety perspective. Had no issues visiting and staying for 3 nights recently.
- 5/5
A fine place. Fast/Easy communication. Parking was a little tight (but free). The room was small but I knew that when I booked. It is reasonable cheap accomodation.
- 1/5
First, there are only 8 parking spaces for a hotel that has more than thirty rooms, so you likely have to find a space on the street -- not easy. Second, our room only had a table on one side of the bed, so reading before bed was not an option for one of us. Third, the entire place is a lot grungier than the images show.
- 4/5
No food but room service is available - I didn’t try them.
- 4/5
Pros: Great location for walking to Chrissy Field, the Tunneltops and the Presidio. Great value for a clean room and comfortable bed. Cons: Having tiny office closed so you have to check in through little window made me feel like it was a very unsafe area. Parking is as described elsewhere- get there early and have a small vehicle! The bathroom floor was not thouroughly cleaned, but rest of room seemed very clean.
- 3/5
Good for the price but parking was first come first served. Only a few slots available and was difficult to get in and out of parking structure due to it being so small. Rooms were ok, not that nice. I wouldn’t stay here again.
- 5/5
Good deal for the price.
- 5/5
Very safe and good neighborhood, not fancy, affordable. It was clean.
- 4/5
Hotel was in a nice are convenient for sightseeing close to most attractions.parking is the only issue very limited spots, overall a good place to stay, would recommend.
- 3/5
Room cleaning only once in my 4 nights’ stay, inspite of frequent reminder
- 1/5
guy at check in was horrible super mean no help pictures wasn’t was it looked like was worried i was gonna get scammed
- 1/5
The bathroom was disgusting, lots of mold everywhere
- 4/5
Great location next to Precidio Park and walkable to Cowhollow. Great value for the money, only thing that could be better is the bed pillows and comfy beds. But that is okay considering cost. They allowed us for early check in, staff was very kind
- 4/5
Adequate
- 1/5
Chair had "white stains" on it. Hairdryer burned my hair off. Service was terrible - we told them no room service and they still entered the room and touched our belongings, moving my personal item from where I left it.
- 3/5
The location is perfect for exploring the Presidio. The welcoming staff is not particularly welcoming. The lobby is locked and you have to do all your communication through a plexiglass window. The property and room is fine and very clean.
- 5/5
Such a cozy quiet clean hotel. I've stayed here twice now and the staff has been ridiculously accomodating and kind. It's a five minute walk to the beach with a full view of both the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz a fifteen minute Luscasfilm and the Walt Disney Museum.
- 3/5
Room was fine - rate reasonable considering its location.
- 1/5
Not good squeaky floor, bed and bathroom door, too noisy hard to geta good night sleep
- 1/5
Door banging and people talking loud all hours of the night. I would not recommend if you want a clean and quiet place. Just not a great place.

Quiet and tucked into a nice location. Parking available
- 5/5
This little motel is in an excellent location. I stay here all.the.time. You can hear the fog horns!
- 5/5
Orange or Apple juice
- 4/5
Property was not quite what I expected. It was close to shopping and dining. Very small parking lot. Staff was somewhat friendly.
- 5/5
I was surprisingly nice room especially with the fact that it was a good price.
- 4/5
Excellent location, near of this place there are some small restaurants and also is the Presidio and you can walk until the beach where you can see the San Francisco Bridge.
- 4/5
Property was old, but okay for the price. Staff was very friendly. Room could have been cleaner, as my wife had to literally clean the toilet and I had to tighten a leaking shower head. No elevator, so carrying my heavy suitcase up a steep flight of stairs was not fun. The parking was a disaster, and I couldn't sleep half the time thinking some other customer was going to scrape my car with theirs. Other than that, this is the only place I will ever stay again in San Francisco, simply because it's the only motel in a fairly safe area away from all the ghetto riffraff with free parking! The price is just unbeatable for what you get!
- 4/5
Served my purpose well, satisfied. Good price for a perfect location.
- 5/5
It was clean beds and a hot shower- just what we needed! The room was small and it’s an older hotel, but the location was perfect!
- 3/5
Only 7 spots for parking for 20 some rooms. The website states microwave, breakfast and coffee. They DO NOT HAVE!!!! Rooms are clean. Very close to attractions.
- 3/5
parking was full. No breakfast
- 4/5
Very clean
- 5/5
I stay here every trip to the City. It is a perfect place to stay for me. It's not super, duper fancy but it it all I need for my 2-3 day trips to the City.
- 4/5
Quiet
- 4/5
Otherwise, clean, and straightforward.
- 4/5
Friendly check in
- 2/5
Perhaps this sums it all up? When I took the face towel from the towel rack, the rack fell off.
- 3/5
Room was clean and great service. Bed was comfortable but pillows were not. The room is very small Which didn’t matter because I was out and about the trip. The water did not get hot and stayed luke warm which made the showers suck
- 5/5
It was a great and easy stay. The room is exceptionally clean, the area is very safe and quiet. Close to the city center and walkable to many restaurants. I didn’t have much interaction with the staff. The cleaner would come once in two days of stay (this was completely acceptable to me). Check in and check out was easy. I didn’t have a car though, so I am unable to post a review for that part. Nevertheless, I will come back here!
- 2/5
Besides all of that, the area stayed pretty quiet during the night. Since it’s right off the Main Street, it did get loud during the early mornings to afternoon. The worker/owner was kind.
- 1/5
Terrible stay, I couldn't shower because there was no hot water, also the heater didn't work, l'll never come back
- 4/5
I enjoyed my stay at Golden Gate Inn. It's a short walk to spots like the Golden Gate Bridge, Palace of Fine Arts and the Presidio. The surrounding area felt safe and quiet. Parking is limited but we were able to find street parking a short distance away. The hotel is no-frills, the room has a fridge but no microwave. The door guard lock in my room was broken, but the deadbolt worked and I felt safe the whole stay. The walls are pretty thin and sheets are a little scratchy. Overall I thought this was a good option for an affordable stay in a convenient location for seeing the sights of the city.
- 4/5
Pretty well good
- 5/5
Very good bang for buck!
- 4/5
No coffee pot or breakfast. Everything else was very well done.
- 1/5
Horrible. Check in was through a plexi glass and was cold outside. Attendant didnt know our room number and free parking meant whatever street parking you could find. Sheets were scratchy and there were broken items in the room.
- 3/5
There are many budget motels on the stretch of Lombard Street between Lyon and Van Ness. It's not a bad area to stay, because there is easy access by car to other areas of the city and it's a short walk to the restaurants on Chestnut Street in the Marina. The Inn at Golden Gate is tucked on the quiet end of Lombard between Lyon and Baker, which means it is one block further away from the traffic going to and from the bridge: it's quieter than most of Lombard. It's nicely walkable to the Palace of Fine Arts and the splendid Lyon Street Steps. The motel advertises free parking, but there are only eight spaces for twenty or so rooms. Street parking is available, but you have to hunt a little and read the signs abut hours and enforcement (weekends, you're good). The property is a little worn, but the price was agreeable. Service was adequate. The room was clean; mattress was fine; TV worked well; refrigerator was a little larger than usual for a motel room. Overall, we had a good experience.

- 4/5
Proximity to points of interest; within walking distance
- 3/5
There were only 4/5 ice cubes my husband could get. No coffee or anything available. The room itself was okay/comfortable but very limited amenities
- 4/5
Not a bad stay, comfortable bed. AC in the room did work but was a bit slow. No kettle, microwave, coffee or tea making facilities in the room. Sheets and towels and everything seemed quite clean. Would stay again.
- 5/5
This location worked out well for us when traveling to different places we wanted to visit. It was pretty much in the center of our different destinations. The only tricky part is the lack of numerous parking spots on the property, but we managed to do well.

Esta muy bien ubicado solo que el room esta muy pequeño
