Reviews
The hotel is located in a dangerous area with a high concentration of homeless people and drug activity. The rooms are generally dirty and in disrepair, with some guests reporting issues such as shared restrooms, holes in walls, and non-functioning amenities. However, some guests have had positive experiences with staff and found the location convenient for walking to nearby shopping and food.

Unsafe! Do not stay here if you want to survive, homeless and drug addict everywhere. Dirty rooms and poor conditions. Do not fall for the photos, you can find way better places for the same prices

Horrible place
- 1/5
On arrival there were druggies sitting on floor outside smoking crack pipes we went upstairs to the dirty scruffy reception which had metal mesh on it to protect the staff …. I went to our room and it was awful not as the photos online and the cleaners were in the room next door cleaning human excrement off the floor 😳 went back to reception and the manager told us he would refund our money to hotels.com but as yet nothing after over a week and two emails to him …… this hotel is a drug hostel and should not be on Hotels.com please issue a full refund urgrntly

The hotel is in a bad area of San Francisco with street people, junkies and trash everywhere. Lots of noise and arguments amongst the other guests.
- 2/5
I can't sleep with the noise inside and outside i want to close the window because of noises outside, its very hot inside no aircon or electric fan
- 1/5
I didn't even check in this place was so shady!
- 2/5
Then maybe you shouldn't have drug addicts making noise all nght all in your hallways. And, put people's lives in danger.
- 1/5
Wasn't ada compatible one of the managers was very rude to us also homeless people hanging around
- 1/5
This place was terrible. After checking in I checked out about an hour later after finding the Hotel Fitzgerald. It was dirty and ran like a prison. The area was scary and the clients were not much better. This place should be removed from Expedia.
- 5/5
Confortable atmosphere
- 1/5
Extremely dangerous area. There are shared restrooms for an entire floor. Holes from punches and gunshots from previous renters in the doors/walls. Staff members make you sign blank line-item lists to check in. It's not safe to be here.
- 4/5
At this price for a san francisco hotel I'm not sure how other reviewers expectations were so high. My room was not terrible, the facilities are older. it was clean, no evidence of bed bugs. Location is convenient, walking distance to shopping and food. I am a female who travelled alone and checked in at 1am, I was not uncomfortable. Homeless people are to be expected in this area of the city.
- 1/5
I didn’t like that they don’t accept kids
- 2/5
Only stay here if you just want a bed and a roof. If you want anything more than go somewhere else. The customer service is okay, nothing bad. The room is still dirty, one of the windows wouldn't close, shower didn't work, no toilet paper in the room, non-working tv, and stains on the mini fridge. I guess the bed was comfortable. If you're staying here it's because it's the cheapest choice in the whole city and you're on your last dollar.

Poor quality, staff is indifferent. Why is this even listed here?

They sold our room to someone else an tried to get us in a shittier establishment. Worst hotel in the Bay Area
- 1/5
If you like people screaming at all times of the day, blood splatters, equipment that doesn’t work, and thin walls; have I got a place for you! I would give this place negative stars, but that’s not an option. It’s cheap for a reason. However, I didn’t expect a lot of homeless people in the area. I was also pretty disgusted by all of the trash and fences in the street.
- 1/5
It's terrible and full of homeless and junkies. I urge you to remove this from your list of accommodation. I arrived and left in 10 min. Didn’t use it and recommend people to stay away and be very careful. Very dangerous area. Terrible in every single sense!
- 5/5
Front desk person very kind and helpful.
- 5/5
The Hotel and staff are great, but the surrounding neighborhood is dirty and can be a little intimidating
- 5/5
Overall I like it here. There are a lot of unhoused people on the street outside building
- 5/5
I know a lot of people are not a fan of SROs and the neighborhood isn’t fantastic but it’s super convenient. The staff is super nice. It’s an affordable rate and you get what you pay for a safe place to stay and sleep and working.
- 1/5
The most striking thing about the accommodation is the bad smell of urine throughout the place, especially in the room. Which they even gave us with the toilet full of urine on the edge. The depressing room. From the surroundings of the accommodation without words.

The people running this property are absolutely fabulous. However, this is located in the worst part of SF, there are loud folks out all night and many folks down on their luck who live on the streets outside.
- 3/5
My neighbors were really loud, and it was loud outside also. I had to go down to the lobby and ask for soap and a towel which was odd but not the worst.
- 2/5
There is a lots of noice, No towels, shampoo, conditioner, or soap, the environment seams to be a place for night life people.
- 1/5
the room was dirty and had not been swept ...Looked as if someone used the room and checjed out late night and they just rerented the room to me ...To top it off isaw a mice coming under the door of the room and thats when i got my bag and left
- 1/5
Dodgy area... First room that was given to me was already occupied by what looked like a squatter. Avoid!
- 2/5
San francisco has some rough spots. I hope the neighborhood improves so the mgr develops the location. The room had no towels no housekeeping, the floor had a powerful scent of disgusting cleaning solution. The TV cable box did not function. Drugged drunks roamed the halls using the shared facility. Ungodly. I prepaid had no choice but to stay. Pros bathroom was remodeled with shower toilet combo had sink too. Close to Market st transportation. Small fridge microwave. Dangerous uncomfortable loud at night neighborhood. Not a family place. I

No toilet paper, No towel, bed sheets stained, walls and floors had stains and was sticky. Horrible.
- 1/5
This is a residential hotel for crackheads. Shared bathrooms. Room smelled like a three day meth binge. You're given hand towel for the showers. Room is small enough to touch both walls, not room for two people to walk past one another in any of the floorspace. Multiple fights in the alley below during my stay. Accosted by panhandlers every single time I left the premises. Worse? When you add up the cost it's the same as my rent in Hollywood. Place has zero upside.
- 3/5
The room was clean and comfortable for the location… bring your own soaps and towels as none are provided. The mini fridge was not working and there is no A/C in the rooms.
- 2/5
Really unsafe neighbourhood. Lots of homeless people outside screaming and playing really loud music all night. Was surrounded by men asking uncomfortable questions one night whilst waiting for a cab outside. Dirty sheets, empty alcohol bottle under the sink, tv didn’t work, phone/Fitbit wouldn’t charge in the sockets. Bathroom door wouldn’t lock. Only good thing was the luggage storage.

I feel I was cheated. I did not där to come our the car in front of THE Inn. 180 degree against that it was presented om the Expedia website, tried to refund which is not respons yet. We just fuged from THE area!!

The photo in the announcement is nothing like the actual property. There is a slew of homeless camping by the front door which by the way is a metal gate that you Have to be buzzed into. The hotel smelled and seemed like it was a homeless shelter. There was sketchy small bathrooms in the hallways with just a toilet and shower. I cannot imagine what they are used for unless they are rented out so the homeless can shower. This is definitely one hotel that seems like it is rented by the hour. This hotel should not be advertised on this website. We did not end up staying Because it was so sketchy. The representative at the desk was nice and offered to accommodate us at a sister property but this type of the hotel is not what a vacationer is looking for.
- 3/5
There’s an alley in the back of the hotel so there are thugs playing music all night long til the sun comes up
- 2/5
Este hotel , está cerca de unión square , pero la limpieza de los baños es terrible , especialmente cuando tomas habitación con baño compartido , afuera del hotel hay mucha gente sin hogar que hace mucho ruido toda la madrugada y no te deja dormir
- 3/5
I could not sleep at all to much noise coming from the streets everyone doing illegal substances. The room wasn’t clean not as unit and bathroom didn’t flush.
- 5/5
Great staff, room was clean and everything was great, would stay again
- 1/5
All dislikes: tv broken.sink clogged.sheets burned and stained. Bathroom gross.no closet rod or hangers.no window screens. Noisy all night. Dont stay here!
- 2/5
My stay was sub standard to what was advertised. The first room had no curtains or bed made. Lots of gnats flying around. Looked like it wasn't ready to be occupied. Had to get another room because of leak in sink. Second room was better but no TV service. Also no shuttle service as stated on info.
- 5/5
Great

I did not stay at the property. The area was unsafe and we didn’t feel safe once inside the motel. The room was not ready even an hour after checking. The motel was being used as a homeless shelter with people off the street using the motel to shower. We left without using the motel.
- 5/5
I understand that the buildings themselves are very old. That is probably true of most of the area. My only concern is that housekeeping could be better. They had been nice enough to change my rooms due to some issues with the other room. I ended up in a section that seemed to have long term local clients. They made noises all night and one even decided to play the loudest music at 3Am on my last day. It was like an insane asylum there. That was my queue to get out. The smell of Marijuana everywhere was overwhelming. It is downtown SF, so maybe this is normal.
- 1/5
Not parking available at all and no refund you're money bad customer service never go back there
- 2/5
It wasn’t very pleasant. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom and the room had no heat.
- 5/5
It's not working like I thought
- 1/5
I didn't like nothin there no 2 and 1 in the hallway the heat didnt work the room were cold and they had roaches
- 2/5
Hotel manager is pretty attentive to my asks such as clean towels and hair dryer. But the room cleanness needs to be improved especially it’s on the first floor and rats can easily come in. The rat bit a hole in my luggage!!
- 1/5
nothing nothing nothing
- 1/5
In all seriousness, don’t stay here unless you want to experience actual death or have ouija board
- 5/5
come back again
- 2/5
Full of flies everywhere fruit flies nasty smell of sewage it was horrible sheets were not cleaned ain't nothing with covid-19Protocols being enforced the rooms are not sanitized the walls are dirty the door knobs have not been wiped down in years
- 5/5
They are very nice and respectful and I enjoyed my stay
- 2/5
not a place to show up with luggage due to the climb up the stairs. I stayed here due to a change in a schedule and my flight was the next day and I needed a place to lay my head and not at a high price tag. The room wasn’t clean and I never got into the Ben but payed onto top of the bed. I may have enjoyed my stay if there weren’t cigarettes burns on everything and the headboard didn’t have a 12 to 15 inch burn. The outside noise from partygoers was loud and all night long. The shared restroom wasn’t good and people smoked inside and everywhere. I was given a key and two towels at checkin but those towel look like my shop towels I use when working on my vehicle but my car towel are cleaner. The good side is I only paid 39.00 including taxes and it was safe once inside and I’d ever in a jam like I found myself I was happy this place was open and when I got to my next hotel I took a long hot shower. The hotel itself was once a grand place and could be again.
- 3/5
Cheap and convenient. Clean but cold.
- 5/5
Staff was very helpful ,rooms were clean ,very quiet and convenient area
- 4/5
The accomodation was expected for the price, and although it needs some updating it appears to be in the works. The security of the buiding was the main concern and they put my mind at ease. I will be returning.
- 5/5
For the price compared to anywhere else is unbeatable with the room and amenities it includes in the room meaning microwave, tv windows, bed mice big bed.
- 4/5
It was nice and peaceful
- 3/5
Old building showers are separate from room. Vary dirty.
- 5/5
Staff was very helpful and friendly. My room (multiple times) was very very clean. I was satisfied every time!
- 1/5
We got there and were told ther was no manager on to check us in and we had to wait 10 minutes. We waited 30 min before having to leave having dinner and show reservations. The place did not feel safe as the gated door we had been buzzed into on the way in was propped open on the way out.
- 2/5
Sunnyside is located upstairs above an existing business. You have to buzz management at the gate to have them see you on a video feed to buzz you up. It was very dirty, window in my room was open, only one or two shared showers per floor. Only had a sink in the room. Weed in a jar and zig zags in the drawer where a bible should be, mentally unstable people walking up and down the hall all night knocking on doors and yelling. Needless to say, I didn't sleep much. I prepaid on hotels.com and management tried to run my card again. They were friendly enough and were trying, but I will never stay in the Tenderloin area of SF ever again.
- 2/5
The room wasn’t clean when we arrived although our sink got cleaned after we asked for it. The shower on the aisle wasn’t clean either and freezing in the evenings. Unfortunately the walls were very thin and you could here people talking and partying outside. The personelle was really friendly and accommodating.
- 2/5
Feels a bit like a homeless shelter inside and outside of the hotel.
- 3/5
you get what you pay for. The bathrooms were clean. Outside the hotel there are a lot of homeless.
- 3/5
Place is in challenging neighborhood. While I could get over the bums, smell and garbage, I had a hard time with the filthy room. No towels upon arrival. Broken windows. It was a very hot day and there was no air conditioning. The streets were relatively quiet at night but it was disappointing.
- 2/5
The Hotel is located in a very bad and noisy area. No one showed up to clean the room or bring towels during our stay, not really as advertised.
- 4/5
The surrounding streets have lots of homeless people camping there, a little disturbing, but it's more the city problem. SF has lots of homeless people sleeping on the streets. The room has a tiny sink, you have to use public bathroom across hallway. There are flies and mosquitos inside room. The public bathroom is yucky to use. The king sized bed is very comfortable, tv set has lots of channels, but tv is in the side of bed, you have to twist your head to watch tv.
