The photos online are from a past refurbishment. The actual rooms and main lobby look much more tired than the photos. There isn’t air conditioning in all rooms and the rooms get very warm. A comfortable stay but not awesome.

The breakfast was cold, which I get it ,I didn’t expect it to be good in the first place. What really bothered me was the whole room . There was a really bad odor like horrible ,it almost smelled like someone tried to clean up or cover the smell of feces with cleaning supplies.

The shower couldn't open or close all the way, dish for soap tray was too big for the sink, the remote for the ac was not useful at all, and parking was $55 a night for the smallest spots ever. The driver had to crawl out a passenger door to get out. Breakfast was fruit and a store-bought pastry. Swimming pool is across the street on top of a different hotel, and our key cards didnt work for getting in, but the other hotel's staff were friendly and let us in. We were there for one night and it was fine but not great.

The room was great, clean, staff was helpful. It says that breakfast is included but it’s very small, think banana and croissant style. Get there at your check in time, if you don’t, all parking will be taken up and you will have to pay a lot for a parking garage and walk far. I’m not sure why all guests don’t have a parking space, but something to keep in mind.

Special thanks and mention to Edward who went above and beyond to accommodate us. 😊 Breakfast was ok (I had better in other places) there’s room to improve. Parking might become a problem if you are coming late to check in, I wish you can reserve it at the time you reserve the hotel. All and all very satisfied.

Hotel Garrett was a great find when we came into the City for a Giants game. It is in close proximity to the stadium (we walked to the stadium from the hotel) and lots of restaurants along the way! The staff were awesome; the room was clean and the bed sooo comfortable! We will definitely be back to Hotel Garrett anytime we come back to SF!

The front clerk was courteous and professional. I disliked the old worn dirty facility and furniture. There was also a bad sewage smell in the hallways and the room. It was making me nauseous. No light is in the shower stall. The hotel location was also undesirable and unsafe. There were drug addicts all over the sidewalks and main street right around the corner from the hotel extending several blocks up the street. We only stayed the first night and checked out the next day, 5 June.

The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The hotel staff provided good service throughout my stay, and the location is convenient. However, there are a few areas where the hotel could improve. First, the room did not appear to have an air conditioning system. This may not be an issue when temperatures are 70°F, but it could become uncomfortable during the summer warmer months. A mini refrigerator in the room would also be an excellent addition for guests staying multiple days. I also noticed that the window shade in my room was torn, which is something housekeeping or maintenance should inspect and address before guest check-in. My biggest concern involved customer service. Due to a change in my plans, I requested to shorten my stay and asked if the hotel could waive the penalty charge. Expedia informed both the front office manager and me that it was within the hotel's discretion to do so. Unfortunately, my request was declined. I understand policies exist, I felt this was a missed opportunity to put the guest experience first and demonstrate greater flexibility in customer service. Hotel Garrett remains a good place to stay. A few improvements—particularly regarding room amenities, maintenance attention, and customer-focused flexibility—could make it an outstanding hotel experience. FYI, I have also stayed at Hotel Fiona next door, a sister property. I had a great stay>

A clean and simple hotel close to the main streets of downtown San Francisco, a block or two south of Market Street. It’s a 15-minute walk to the Union Square. There’s a lot of shopping and dining in the area and transportation is of easy access. The room I booked has a king bed and there’s a lot of space to open my suitcase. The beddings and towels were new and clean. There’s free breakfast which you can get from near the front desk and that you can bring to your room to eat. The staff were nice and helpful. The price is very reasonable for downtown SFO. I will book in this hotel when I’m back in San Francisco.

Great value. I had a king bed room with a sofa. The room was large and enough storage area. The breakfast was basic. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The location ok. It can be a little sketchy at times but I never felt unsafe. Two issues that could affect my return. There aren’t many food options in the area. I always book hotels with gyms. This one used the gym across the street. That’s ok. But the gym didn’t open until 9 am. I like to get that out of the way as early as possible. My vanity sink drained slow upon arrival. By the time we left, it didn’t drain at all on checkout day. Small problems. Give it a try.

Stay away from this place Hotel manager is a bigot ncompletely transphobia ruined my entire trip to San Francisco. I had a six day reservation.I had been there for three days already. I had ordered some DoorDash. I come downstairs to the lobby to collect my DoorDash. He and the rest of the employees of the hotel were all at the front desk conversing. I take my food upstairs 10 minutes later he had security upstairs demanding to search my room stating that if my do not disturb sign was on the door for three days they have the right to search my room when I refuse to let them search my room he threatened to call the police on me told me that he was dropping my reservation and then I had to get up out of there when I told him I was not opening the door I ended up leaving because if I didn’t, I was going to do something I regretted please don’t stay here. The rooms are dated It’s a time war back to 1982 air-conditioning in my room did not work and the breakfast that they supposedly offer is nothing but some miserable stale donuts in the in the morning and for some reason, the entire property smells of BO bad

The pool is across the street at a sister property. It was not very convenient to walk my child across a busy road. It was in the fine print. They advertise heated roof top pool. They never have towels up there and then you have to cross back wet and cold. They didn’t have a microwave or mini frig in the rooms. Which was another inconvenience

My plan was to arrive early before check-in to secure a parking spot, only to find out upon arrival that the hotel had sold out of parking spaces two nights earlier. The staff member I was communicating with should have clearly informed me of that instead of giving vague information. On top of that, the rooms are extremely small, there’s no air conditioning (only a fan). Overall, this was by far one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had!!

It is walkable to restaurants and things, but probably none of the things you really want to do... It's about a 15-minute or more drive, or or Waymo ride, to Pier 39. Staff was very nice. Breakfast was very good for a continental breakfast... Was brought in from what looked like a local bakery, really yummy mini quiche muffins, and delicious bread. One of the best breakfasts I've had at a hotel. Overall would consider staying here again, good value for the price. Side note, in the picture I thought there was a small couch, but it's really just a stool. My teen son had to sleep on the floor but the hotel staff was nice and provided plenty of extra bedding.

Staying in this Hotel was a nightmare. The hotel offered free self parking but it’s a lie. They have like 10 parking space only but they charge 57 dollars to park there or in another hotel near by. I decide to park on the street my car got hit by another person who stay in this hotel. They charge $200 dollars deposit and the service is bad. But the thing that upset me the most was the parking in this place is a nightmare.

However, I was disappointed that the information on Expedia was not accurate. Amenities like the swimming pool and gym were not located on-site; no fridge or microwave in room, Ice machine was located downstairs in lobby area, we had to cross the street to a sister hotel to use swimming pool and gym, which was inconvenient. Additionally, we were charged over $30 for overnight parking, which was not clearly disclosed ahead of time. These unexpected costs and discrepancies took away from an otherwise positive experience. Overall, the service was great, but I recommend confirming details about amenities and fees before booking.

The rooms don't have AC, also, we came I early and they held our luggage. However, we came back one hour after our check in time, and our rooms still weren't ready! on of us had to wait an extra 30 mins for the final room to be ready, so they checked us in 1hr and 30 mins after their advertised check in time. The personnel did mention that they were understaffed so this is a BIG mishap on management. They are not giving their staff enough support. Also, if you book this hotel, remember that it is a budget hotel, and the rooms' set up is odd: the restroom will not have a door in some rooms, only the shower. In some other rooms, the sink will be next to the TV, in front of the bed, but no sink in the restroom, etc.

If you need a clean room, comfy bed, and nothing else, then Hotel Garrett is a good option. The location wasn't in the best spot, just 1 block south of the Tenderloin. Parking is an additional cost and very expensive, we ended up using SpotHero to find a parking location that was much more cost friendly. The hotel rooms DO NOT have AC, so just be aware of that. We lucked out with having cooler weather, and were able to crack the windows. I can't imagine staying there in the middle of the summer though. So they told me in order to extend my stay another night, they wanted another $200 deposit paid. Now in a Canadian $, they have $580 of my money on hold that we cannot access or use during our trip, which is tough if youre on a budget! If you are staying here, be prepared to spend several deposit fees because they will use any excuse to take more of your money than what they should! Seems like a really slimy & unethical way to put holds on your money. They also know that your money doesn't actually get released back to you for several business days which is frustrating if you are flying home to another country and can't really do anything about it if there is a problem with the money being returned to your account. Staff was hit or miss. One moment they seem very friendly, the next moment they claim that you inquiring about all this money they are taking is staff harassment! Then the next moment they are seemingly nice & wanting to help you? I got whiplash from the drastic mood swings of certain staff. Going to the front desk is anxiety provoking because you never know what kind of attitude you are going to get. I would advise to stay elsewhere!

Good place to stay, however do note that the oarking situation is on a first come, first serve situation, so they don't really have parking past a certain time. Also, no A/C in the rooms, just ceiling fan, so definitely recommend keeping that in mind for the warmer days. They do have windows that open but no net, so it's kinda sus since technically anyone who opens their window on the second floor can technically acces the other rooms as well.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, which was honestly the best part of the stay. However, the hotel itself needs major updates. There is carpet throughout the hallways and rooms and it smells pretty bad. There is no air conditioning, so be prepared to request a fan. They do keep the windows open, but some of them don’t even have screens, which means anything can get into the room. Our bathroom definitely needed renovations. The tile was dirty and literally coming apart from the wall, and the vents were extremely dusty. The bathroom was also very small, especially the shower. If you’re a thicker person, I would definitely recommend requesting a handicap-accessible room, as those bathrooms are larger and updated. The ice machine was moldy, and the breakfast box with pastries had gnats flying around inside it, which was very off-putting. Another thing to note is that there are no amenities at this hotel. If you want to use any, you have to go across the street to their sister hotel, The Soma House. The staff there was also very friendly, and the rooms there are much nicer. In fact, we liked it so much better that we asked to relocate there, and the staff was very accommodating and helped make that happen. The area itself isn’t the best, as there are quite a few homeless individuals around. But as our Uber driver suggested: “Uber in and Uber out.” Overall,

Clean stylish room (really liked the decor and efficient, practical design. Continental breakfast was fresh and yummy (grab and go style). I did not check out the pool. After reading the reviews on google, I didn't expect much from this hotel. It was just somewhere to house us at night because we knew we would be out and about the whole day elsewhere. So here is a main problem we had, the hotel had this overly strong pungent smell that seems to cling to the walls. I had to spray my poopourri (because I wasn't gonna use my perfume) all over the room and even that didn't help in the long run. We stayed on the 5th floor and it was extremely warm in our room. AC wasn't working (or we just couldn't find the power button) The parking space were decent and it felt secured. The amenities was just okay. The staff were good. All in all it was an okay hotel. I wouldn't stay here again. I'm just thankful that our car wasn't broken into and hotel beds didn't have bed bugs.

Thank you Gabrille for helping me with my itinerary for my one day visit. Hotel was clean. The continental breakfast was what I needed. Pastries, fruits, and coffee. I used the pool across the street at Somo Hotel. Staff again was friendly. I arrived a little after 8 pm. Staff was helpful with directions. Clean pool towels. The pool was not heated but it was a cool temperature. Once i was in i didn't come out the water till a little after 9. It was at that moment I was cold. I mean really cold but I survived. Hotel Garret is near bus stop. I had a great time in San Francisco. Thanks Hotel Garrett.

I spent one night in the hotel as it is close to the Chase Center . Staff was courteous and the room was clean. We had problems with the heat in the room - we could not turn it off and we tried to cool off the room with air conditioning and that only marginally worked. The room was very stuffy as a result. The shower pressure was ok but was affected by the water gushing out if the bottom spigot - a waste of water too. I went to get breakfast at 9:30 and there was almost no food left - not enough for me and my other guest. Breakfast service was from 7-10. Convenience of the location and parking on site were pluses.

The front desk staff were genuinely kind and helpful which I appreciated. However, there were several issues with the room and amenities. The bathroom had visible mold, and the ceiling fan in my room did not work. The room itself was extremely small -- essentially the size of a box -- and the walls were thin enough that I could hear the guests in the room next to me. Also, the hotel advertises a rooftop pool, but that is misleading. There is no rooftop pool. The breakfast provided was not a hot breakfast, but instead pastries, apples, oranges, and bananas. When I mentioned the room concerns to the front desk, I was told that switching rooms wouldn't make a difference because the rooms are all similar. Overall, the stay was manageable, but I don't feel it matched the expectations set online. With a few improvements, the experience could be much better.

The property rates itself as a “hotel” but in my opinion it has more of a motel vibe. We had to walk 2 flights to get to our rooms as there is no elevator access to the “courtyard” view rooms. We had a lot of big luggage pieces so this was a bit of a hassle. I had 2 rooms with 2 queen beds booked, but they were not available. They did offer us 4 rooms with king beds instead which was great. One room was not cleaned well and they did offer to switch. The neighborhood is another story. One direction is the Soma district, leather area which is kind of industrial feel (found a fabulous dim sum restaurant!). Go the other direction, it’s skid row. A bit intimidating you’re walking to restaurants nearby. This is why I can’t give it 5 stars. Everything worked out for our limited needs (just a place to sleep), but staying here for a long period or to hang out, it’s not for that.

I checked the front desk at 3:30 and the evening crew was there they were a lot nicer and more welcoming with the way my day had already went. I’m glad they lowered the deposit to $200 instead of the $300 that was expected. I understand the parking fee for the hotel parking but you should be able to get more than one pass if there is a second car. The parking is hard to find and driving in the area is stressful.

On a positive note, the staff were consistently friendly, welcoming, and professional. I had no issues whatsoever with anyone I interacted with, and their service was the highlight of my stay. Unfortunately, beyond that, the experience was disappointing. The property is located in a very troubled part of town, and the street noise as well as activity outside went on throughout the night. The rooms do not have air conditioning—only ceiling fans, with an extra fan available upon request—which made things uncomfortable. The included breakfast consisted only of coffee and a few pastries. There is no pool or gym on-site; those are located at a sister property down the street. The shower water pressure was extremely weak. The rooms themselves are quite small, though for a short stay that wasn’t the main issue. The beds were reasonably comfortable, which was one of the few positives about the accommodations themselves. In summary, while the staff were excellent, the overall property and amenities fell short in several key areas.

Absolutely don't stay here. Hotel is under construction. Dirty parking area. Air conditioner didn't work in the room. Very stinky hallways. Loud. Dirty.

DO NOT STAY - unsafe. property is so incredibly run down - images are untrue. I could not stay due to the conditions. Overdoses in front of property - part is MOTEL... no refunds were provided - staff led e astray.. . So unsafe & dirty .

This was a great spot to be for the event we were attending. Would have liked for the check in and check out to be a bit smoother and wishes there was AC but other than that the stay was pretty great. Polish up those refurbished bathrooms and you have a great hotel!

The property was convenient for all the local attractions. I did not like that. It was too close by all the homeless people, live around the area and people sleeping on the payment.on drugs. When you walk around. That’s the only thing I didn’t like.

We pulled up and kept moving. The aera directly outside is very active with homeless and drug users EVERYWHERE. it felt way too chaotic. Kept moving and got a room at the parc 55. I'm done with Expedia

The woman who checked us in was great. We had a rental car and the garage here is tight and the spot she initially gave us was not going to work (due to the parking of another car and a pole on the other side) so she just gave us a new spot. No fuss. Hotel is clean and comfortable. We are here to sleep and move on.

The continental breakfast was quite sad and offered some pastries, coffee and hotwater. The location is extremely unsafe, if you plan to stay here also plan to uber places.

Stayed here last year in the actual hotel and had a great experience. Coming in this year, they did not have two double rooms so just gave us 4 king rooms, totally cool but we were in the courtyard where one of our rooms had mold so my friends had to move, another was in our room our ac was leaking horribly. we told them and they made it seems like it was a normal experience. so if you’re planning to stay here definitely try to be in the actual hotel because the courtyard is not very nice.

There are more homeless ppl in SF since Covid and in this area. Didn’t feel too unsafe but I would still be cautious. There is no AC in the room only a ceiling fan which came as a surprise to me, no fridge but there is a microwave downstairs. Great location to stay over the weekend maybe 2 nights but nothing longer. About an 8 min walk to CIVIC Center BART and nearest streetcar station.

Bathroom was full of long black hair. There was no noise isolation, so I couldn't sleep for three nights staying there with vehicles and people on the street being noisy. And it's def not a hotel, but a motel.

The hotel inside was wonderful. The outside looks like you wouldn’t want to stay there.. the only thing negative I would say, and it wasn’t too bad is that the rooms are extremely small and tight. Overall, it wasn’t a bad hotel.

The hotel was clean bed was comfortable. A little noisy but not too bad. I only problem I have from the hotel was that after we came home somebody from the hotel has taken my credit card info and has been incurring charges on it. It is not a card I normally use other than for travel. When we checked in had to give card, normal, but since checking out I have since been charged over $250 on that card to other places. So beware!!!!! Somebody at the hotel is doing this!!!
