I loved it was literally in the heart of North Beach. More amenities like a coffee maker or coffee available.

Wonderful boutique hotel in fabulous location. Newly renovated bathroom. Excellent front desk staff, as well as room help. Personalized attention throughout. Really need a coffee machine in room. Could have additional light for rooms opposite Columbus Ave (a bit dark).

Very nice people on a great location. Nothing complain really. We had a room on the inside of the building. So we didn't have a view. But we didn't mind because we were out all day. I think the building is quite old, so it can be a little noisey. But all together, a really nice place.

The location is amazing and extremely noisy with bar crowd, cars, street sweepers…also noise from within hotel….extremely small rooms…ancient ambiance and furnishings.

Great location and charming hotel. Very authentic to its era. Nick was super helpful with check-in!! Stairs could be challenging for some people.

I stayed for just one night and really enjoyed the beautifully designed room and the cozy atmosphere. The reception is so kind and helpful and stored my bags in a secure closet both before and after my stay! I’ll stay here again next time I’m in SF.

Has that old world charm vibe close to restaurants Stayed 2nights street noise wasn't a problem but someone started moving furniture around between 2 and 3am both nights lasted about an hour that will wake you up

Wonderful, funky, place to stay while in The City. Walking distance to everything you want while in San Francisco. Bars, Food, books, coffee (some of the best), art, people, transportation, etc., etc., etc..... We had a wonderful time. We'll be back.

Quirky hotel in a fantastic location, made to feel very welcome, providing a daily glass of sherry a nice touch.

The hotel is quirky and charming but unfortunately we did not have the best of rooms. It was very small and cramped and to the rear of the building. It looked out onto a covered lightwell which made the room dark and meant you had no idea what the weather was like outside. There was also nowhere to sit other than two chairs either side of a wardrobe. It was not somewhere that we looked forward to returning too at the end of each day. Having said that the bed was comfortable and it was quiet. We did politely ask to be moved to a room at the front of the hotel (facing Columbus) but were told that this was not possible because the hotel was fully booked - notwithstanding that the hotel had its “Vacancy” sign lit up for the remainder of the day. We were also told that the rear rooms were quieter despite us saying that we didn’t care about that. In any case, we decided not to make a fuss and to grin and bear it but half expected to be asked whether we wanted to move to the front at some point during our 6 NIGHT stay. That offer never materialised. Our disappointment was exacerbated when we spoke to the first friendly member of staff we encountered on our final evening who told us that she had intended us to be put in a lovely room at the front (which she showed us) which only added insult to injury. In summary it is the luck of the draw as to what room you get and we can’t really recommend the one we were in.

Fabulous hotel in the best location. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Rooms were on the small side but the shower was really good and powerful. As others have mentioned the hotel is on a very busy road and this creates a lot of noise from the traffic. If you have issues sleeping take ear plugs or ask for a room at the rear.

Location. Toilet flush was broken. Door was difficult. Room was too hot. Outside was very noisy all night.

Centered in North Beach / Little Italy area surrounded by restaurants, cafes, shops. Old building with late 1800’s vibe so not your ultra modern hotel. There was noise at night from the busy Columbus Ave at night for my room with large bay windows facing the street, but it did die down later. Nice welcoming drink of sherry on arrival.

My boyfriend and I LOVED our stay. The rooms are on the small side, but they are adorable and just like the photos. We both slept really well. The shower had amazingly good water pressure for a hotel of this age. We were impressed!There is a great pastry and coffee shop right downstairs called Stella's. It couldn't be more convenient. Cafe Trieste, just around the corner was a great find. There is a restaurant right next-door called the stinking Rose. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, with friendly staff. We both loved this location as there are other coffee shops and restaurants very close by, all within short walking distance. The hotel staff were great, very informative, welcoming and easy to chat with about the history of famous folks who have stayed in the hotel - if you're interested.The only thing I would mention to future guests is that the rooms (facing Columbus ) got REALLY warm in the afternoon, so draw the blinds before you leave for the day. Fans are provided and they do help but drawing the curtains makes a big difference. 😊 We are already planning to return within the next few months!!

Great location in the middle of North Bay area. Characterful room, clean and smart period decoration. Lots of excellent places to eat around the hotel. Bit of a pain getting bags up and down to reception as there is no lift, but we knew about this in advance and there was help available. Worth it for the experience.

A wonderful quiet hotel in the bustling area of North Beach, with a lot of history and great staff, Susan & Nick are very friendly their hospitality was second to none Nothing

location of Hotel Boheme is amazing and right in North Beach with amazing restaurants, shops, parks and coffee. They offered to hold our bags as we arrived at 7am so the customer service was amazing. Multiple bus stops within a couple of minutes walking and easy to use the 3 day Muni visitor pass. We walked from Market/Montgomery and only really took us 30mins of a gentle walk with a coffee stop on the way. No steep hills of note but just a good incline for the last 300m. Fishermans Wharf is also a 20-25min walk but thats basically downhill all the way. No need to walk really with so many transport options nearby it didnt affect us, but if you travel with many bags, there is a flight of stairs from the front door to the reception to navigate. Not a problem in the world for any able bodied person but if elderley, youmay need to let them know to assist you with the bags. The customer service we received was excellent so it wouldnt be a problem for them

staff was excellent, room was clean - the shower took quite a while to get warm and the fan in the bathroom was somewhat concerningly loud, small gripes. In general the location/price and kindness of the staff were more than worth it!

Location is perfect, middle of North Beach. Staff was very pleasant and room was clean. Room was small, view was rooftops, and next door washer/dryer started to rock the room at 9am. Note we were informed that this would occur but had no good options to move to different room.

Would have loved an elevator Again, no elevator. Because of location, it can be a bit noisy early in the morning.

Everything! It’s our Go-To hotel when we visit SF. So charming and in the most perfect location in North Beach (Little Italy). Walking distance to tons of restaurants and bars. Walking distance to Coit Tower and Washington Square. No AC, so on a warm night (which isn’t that frequent in SF) you can use the fan in the room but we had to get creative with plugging it in so we could actually feel the air.

We came to SF to celebrate our 20th anniversary in the city where we met 26 years ago. We chose this place for its unique atmosphere and convenient location. We loved everything about our stay. The staff were friendly, the room was eclectic and clean. You can’t beat the location. We will definitely be back for our next visit.

Great spot, desk clerk was really nice, cool vibe, no issues with sound from outside, steep stairs to get in (a negative with luggage), parking garage around the corner.

Location is often the most important criteria in selecting a place to stay. From that standpoint Hotel Boheme is spectacular. North Beach allows you access to most of the city very easily AND places you in one of the best locations to stay. Great views, great atmosphere, lots of retaurants and bars (day and night). In addition, this is a place that has a personality, a pleasant and welcoming personality. It's quirky, it's charming, and it's comfortable. It's not the Marriott. If you want all angles at 90 degrees, it's not your place, but it will serve your needs and add value in location. It's a little noisy, no matter what. You're in the center of an active city, so there's noise.

Excellent location, lovely period furnishings, decor, surroundings, excellent customer service, and attention to detail. Nothing. Booking.com described the property and room amenities exactly as it is.

What a great experience to stay in the same hotel that Beat poets Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac stayed! And with City Lights Bookshop around the corner, plus walking distance to so many great sights, Hotel Boheme is the perfect place!

Really quirky, great location for an evening in the city. Staff are fantastic, very friendly and helpful. Columbus is a busy street, so some noise, but not too bad.

This is a boutique hotel. The rooms are small but lovely. The location is so convenient to everything. We had a family emergency and needed to check out a day early. They were very understanding and refunded the last day charge. The people that work there are some if the best. I highly recommend it

Terrific location, hotel has lots of character. The neighborhood was walkable and charming. Chose a front facing room to watch the street action but the noise from trucks and motorcycles during the night and early morning hours made sleeping difficult.

We loved the free wine and cheese, the free breakfast, the gas fireplace in the room, and the easy walk to restaurants, Cannery Row and the water. Be it known though that you are not staying in the house shown in the picture but rather in a newer two-floor wing adjacent to it.

The decor and energy of this hotel is fantastic; encapsulating the great American literary and arts history of this area and time. Enjoy, have some sherry, and enjoy a moment in a bar or cafe before exploring the area.

My husband and I stayed there since it’s close to where our daughter lives. Just convenient location. What I didn’t realize was the big flight off stairs when we arrived. That would have been ok but the hotel definitely needs some freshening up.

This hotel is not for everyone, but I loved it. You have to climb up a flight of stairs to get up to the hotel lobby, and our room was up another flight of stairs. You are pretty much on your own for finding a nearby parking garage. Our room faced the road, but we loved opening the windows (their is not air-conditioning) and listening to the music drifting-up from the restaurants below. It is in the little Italy section of the city, so there are tons of restaurants within a block of the hotel. We used Uber to get to other parts of the city, but it is near public transportations. It was fun! I would return.

Found the hotel as it was very well kept and just a photographed. Registration is located up the stairs on the second floor. A warm welcome and escort to the room to make sure it was prepared. This boutique hotel is in the center of North Beach and is in walking distance to Fisherman's Warf and close to the cruise port. It is a unique hotel that has been around since the 60's and has maintained its decor and charm. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The only negative is the lack of an elevator, as all the rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floor. However the staff helped carry my heavy luggage to my room. A nice touch was the complementary "sherry hour" between 4:00 - 8:00 pm for all the guests. If your not looking for luxury amenity filled hotel, this is the perfect place to stay. We loved our 3 days there touring San Francisco for the first time.

It is a unique hotel that has been around since the 60's and has maintained its decor and charm. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The only negative is the lack of an elevator, as all the rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floor. However the staff helped carry my heavy luggage to my room. A nice touch was the complementary "sherry hour" between 4:00 - 8:00 pm for all the guests. If your not looking for luxury amenity filled hotel, this is the perfect place to stay. We loved our 3 days there touring San Francisco for the first time.

We really enjoyed our stay. It’s in a perfect spot in North Beach, walkable to Coit Tower and Fisherman’s Wharf and with bus stops steps away to get to further locations. The history of the area and hotel added to the experience, and we loved being able to look out over Columbus Ave. from our room. (We also loved being right above a great bakery!)

If you're looking for a spooky vibe and are ok with very old and smelly buildings, go ahead and book, but request a room in the 2nd floor, apparently they are better than the ones on the 1st floor. I did eventually get a refund for my second night so at least that part wasn't a total loss. 0/10 do not recommend

Hotel Boheme was right in the thick of North Beach with great staff and adorable rooms and super cute dressers! We felt like we were in an old school Italian pensione or a French hotel but with bathrooms and heat! We have a great time here.

Restaurants are all around. . . Italian, Chinese, seafood. This neighborhood has it all. Fisherman’s Wharf is a quick 15 minute walk. Robert at the front desk was friendly and professional as we checked in. Other front desk personnel answered any questions we had. I’ll be back!

Charming, historic place in North Beach. Can’t beat the location!

Be aware you take steps up to lobby and to rooms so if you can’t carry your luggage up there is no elevator. Ring buzzer for entrance. They will give you a key for the door during your stay. I will say the street noise is loud but finally quiets down. We had friends in a nice chain hotel complain of same thing. The city is busy. Location: little Italy. We felt safe all day and rarely saw the social issues that plague other areas like Union Square and Tenderloin. A beautiful park near by that was setting up an art show as we left. Amazing restaurants and Italian bakeries. Step outside front door of hotel for a patio dining experience on one side and the best Italian cookies on other side (get the pound assorted cookies) They stored our luggage for us as we went to brunch with friends before we left as you should never leave anything that matters in your car anywhere in the Bay Area (unfortunately we know from experience). The parking garage for this location is about a block away and easy to get to $36 for overnight. We ubered to different parts of city at night. If we get a chance to come back we’d stay here again

Great location but an older building.

The location was fine. The hotel was clean, but the room was very small, smelled like cigarettes/cigars and there was no AC.

She ordered a taxi for us for 5:45pm. It did not come and I reported that to Susan and she tried again ( a couple of times, I believe). Taxi finally showed up about 6:20. Susan was very apologetic and came down on the street with. The lousy taxi service was the only blemish on the evening . AND certainly NOT Susan's fault.

This is a charming historic hotel in the heart of North Beach. It is clean and well-maintained; although, you're not going to find an ice or vending machine down the hall. The bed was very comfortable.

We stayed for a weekend getaway and this was the perfect hotel for our needs. Right in the heart of the North Beach district of San Francisco with lots of cafes and restaurant. This no-frills hotel was very charming with lots of history. Love the unique and romantic feel of the rooms, almost as though we weren transported back to a time when life was slower-paced. In a word, perfect!

This is a tricky review to write. If you're into small, boutique hotels with a good vibe in North Beach, I can see it being a great fit. I was in town for a conference at Moscone, and it wasn't great for this purpose. WHAT I LIKED: My room was silent, even on a busy street with nearby bars and live music. Very friendly, professional staff. Comfortable bed. WHAT I DIDN'T: Lugging my heavy suitcase up and down a long, narrow staircase. My small room, with barely enough room to move around the bed, no desk, and a tiny TV on a tiny stand. The lack of nearby, full-service breakfast places open at 7:00 (I went to Brioche Bakery on Columbus). The challenge of getting to the Moscone Center in morning-rush-hour traffic through the financial district (the Mason cable car line is about 3 blocks away, which was great the morning I caught it, and lousy the morning I just missed it). Overall I'm not sure it was worth the ~$300/night rate. But under different circumstances, I'd be a great fit.

The room was a bit warm but thankfully a small fan was provided that offered air movement and white noise to mask the street noises. Worked great! Couldn’t get the curtains to close, no dial tone on the phone. Overall I loved the ambiance and friendly staff. I’d recommend this hotel!

The room was of adequate size, darker in colours but goes with the style. Service attentative. Location is the best thing about this hotel. Stayed in room away from the room as I had requested a quieter room. However, you will hear e.g. neighbour speaking, taking a shower fairly loudly but im not sure if this is standard in the US (nevertheless the sound levels woke me up in the quiet room, and Im not known to be a light sleeper). Unfortunately I am rather asthmatic, lack of ventilation and something triggering made us change hotels after two nights so you might want to reconsider if you are prone to allergies due to lack of ventilation/dust (my symptoms got better after one night in the next one and I did not go in in a condition). On the side of comfort, I wish the room had had a coffee maker. There was space for it and a proper duvet (they offer a fleece quilt). Overall experience is similar to b&b stay in the UK bar the change before completing the stay not necessarily a boutique hotel as understood in the UK (while there might ofc be cultural differencies to the US). If you are couple looking for privacy and comfort on a holiday, perhaps look elsewhere and definitely so if prone to allergies. Super cute hotel and near many great restaurants and the City Lights Bookstore. A quick 15 min walk to downtown if you’re there for work. Stop for coffee across the street at Cafe Greco! The bed was very comfortable, the room and hotel was very clean, and the staff was warm and friendly. The hotel has many stairs so be ready to carry your luggage up a few flights of stairs, but once you get to your room it’s worth it! (The gentleman working when I checked-out also offered to help with my bags). Will definitely stay again when in town!

Cute hotel with the charm of old San Francisco. The room was clean and quiet, mattress was comfortable, and the furnishings revive a memory of the old days in San Francisco but in a very pleasing way. Staff was very friendly and supportive. Hotel is located in little Italy, thus you immediately fall into a cafe or restaurant if you desire breakfast or dinner. Very nice stay overall.
