Reviews
The hotel is generally well-liked for its unique, vintage charm and convenient location near Union Square and Chinatown. Guests appreciate the friendly and helpful staff, but some find the rooms small and outdated. The area around the hotel can be noisy and unsafe, with a notable presence of homeless people.

Clean, nice room, helpful front desk assistant!

Good location, cute hotel with classical California urban hotel style, and decent yet simple (clearly announced online) breakfast.
- 4.5/5
Central location and clean rooms in good condition for a good price. The breakfast didn't have a lot of food options. The room was missing some storage options like a shelf under the TV for example.

The exterior of the building is quite beautiful with the typical old-fashioned style of architecture. The location was good with bus stops close by. The Powell St metro is about 4 blocks away, steep with luggage, but doable. Although the decor is old, it offers all the necessities for a sleepover. The bed and bedding were good. The staff members were helpful. They offer a breakfast with bread/toast, cereal and fruit. The water pressure in the shower was extremely strong, which made it difficult to wash your under the blast of water.

This was an older but quaint hotel. The staff was extremely great. The room was small than I am normally use to, but the accommodations were very clean. Bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was small, private with pleanty of hot water. Be prepared for the one elevator thats more like a closet. Breakfast was basic toast andb cearl but free. The location was great. Union Square is 5 blocks walking, and a Lfte Pier 39 was less than $20. Great food was within a 5 to 10 minute walk from the hotel.

The hotel was relatively clean, but definitely had some older, worn down aspects. My room was okay, but very stuffy and did not have a fan. The window only opened a crack, and it was also barred because it was next to an alleyway. You could also hear any noises from outside, next door, down the hall pretty loudly. Overall, it was an adequate place to stay but would not rebook.
- 3/5
Great location, easy to reach by public transport from San Francisco Airport and very close to the cable car station. The breakfast was very basic, there was no chair or desk in the bedroom, and the lighting was poor.

What could be better than an old-style San Francisco hotel at a reasonable price? Only one with an exceptional team of people. The staff made my stay truly unforgettable. Yes, sometimes the lock on my room door got stuck. And every single time, the amazing maintenance technician Miguel came to the rescue — twice even on his day off! The daytime front desk team — Harrys, Vickey, and Vishu — were among the friendliest people I have ever met. The night staff, Emmanuel, Sailesh, and their colleagues, patiently listened to my stories between 3 and 7 a.m. After all, what else is a traveler supposed to do when jet lag strikes, if not chat at the hotel reception? And of course, dear Nysaa, quiet and almost invisible in the best possible way, whose hard work ensured that breakfast was always fresh and welcoming. To everyone at the Fitzgerald Hotel: you are wonderful. You turned a hotel stay into a human experience. I sincerely hope to come back one day.

Now the building is clearly old and so are the rooms, you have carpet on the floor, chipped walls and decorations that is a bit outdated. However for the price I was not expecting something much different. Toiletries were nice, you have big bottles of shampoo/bodywash/conditioner on the wall of the shower, as well as a bar of handsoap. Towels were clean and so were the sheets. Overall the room was clean, it is just looking quite old. You have a fan the Ceiling so it cools down the room quite quick which was nice after long days of visits. Calling the breakfast « Continental » is a bit exaggerated. As much as it is always nice to get something to eat in the morning, cornflakes, toast, fruits and coffee/tea is all you will find. No pastries, no eggs, no bacon or meat of any sort. But again for the price, I was not that surprised. The only « big » issue to me was the noise. Walls are far from soundproof so you hear everything, especially the elevator door. If you don’t care much about the room I would definitely recommend this Hotel. I was out at 8AM and was coming back at 9PM just to sleep. However if you are the kind of person who enjoys staying a lot in your Hotel room, you might want to pick a different one.

Friendly and very helpful staff. Trustworthy housekeeping (big thanks for following policy and putting our med-high value item in the lost & found). Rooms clean, if not all of them spacious. Breakfast included but we missed it; cucumber water in the reception area was spot on - ice downstairs was adequately cold and plentiful. Overall good value and clean, we enjoyed our stay. The size of room 307 was cramped and stuffy. Staff helped us navigate a solution - thanks!

Stayed here for 3 nights and it was wonderful. View was great and the city was very walkable, it’s right outside a few cafes and a korean restaurant and we visited them both and it was really good. Overall fun and comfortable experience!

The breakfast used to be much better but that's not very important to me. It was adequate and available for several hours, which is convenient. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It would be nice if the staff would caution guests who arrive late at night to be mindful of their noise. I was awakened 2 different nights by loud talking and other noises that lasted quite a while.

Old world charm and in the heart of Union Square. Old classic San Francisco architecture. Walking distance to tons of shopping, dining and cultural amenities. Public transportation including the famous cable cars just 3 blocks away. Kings size bed very comfortable. Pleasant staff too. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Fitzgerald.

Breakfast was good and although not a huge choice was ample. Great location. I had booked from 22nd to 26th April as we would get off cruise ship early in the day of 23rd and we would be able to access our room early on 23rd. When we arrived someone had just vacated the room and it was not ready for us. It had been double booked for the night of the 22nd. I asked for a refund for the night or at the very least an upgrade but nothing was offered.

Location is amazing, me and my family stayed here for two days trip in SF. Staff was extremely helpful about the parking and facilities. Breakfast was not rich but compare to price we really satisfied and everything was fresh. Our room was quiet and clean, beds were really comfy. There are so many nice restaurants, bars and things to see in the area. I forgot my airpods and they really put their effort to send it back to me from San Fransisco to Chicago.

An unbeatable location at a very good price. Breakfast was very simple.
- 1/5
Would not recommend. Staff didn’t talk to you, wouldn’t even raise their head when you walked past. The room was tiny, you walk in the door and your bed is right there. The door into the hall you could almost see the hallway. The bathroom door wouldn’t close at all. The fan wobbled so much we were afraid it was going to fall down on us, the room was very hot with no ac so the fan was our only option. There was no way to escape in the event of a fire in the hall. After the amount of walking you do we wanted to come back and relax and watch some tv. The tv kept pausing every 4 minutes and the remotes barely worked . The breakfast was very basic, brown bread with only jam no peanut butter. Two different kinds of oatmeal and some gross looking fruit. Even for the price I would not recommend staying here.
- 4/5
Good location with access to Union Square. Small room that was fine for 1 person. Comfortable bed, clean room and linen

- 2/5
The desk person I talked with was fine, and the room was clean. However, it was a particularly warm couple of days in SF, and the room only had heating, no cooling, and no ceiling fan. So we were sweating all night, even with the little desk fan we found in the closet. You can't open the window either because it has no screen, and it also opens directly out to a fire escape that is accessible from the floors above, so anyone higher than you could get into your room. The mattress was hard and the pillows were uncomfortable. Me and my friend, who had a different room, both woke up with neck pain. The worst part of the stay, however, was the crazy homeless lady in the alley right outside the window. She was screaming incoherently literally all night, loud enough that you could hear her through the closed window and with the fan on. It only stopped when the sun came up. I understand that the herbalist lady is not part of the hotel, but they had a security person, maybe they could have sent him back there, I don't know. Overall, it was an uncomfortable stay.
- 2/5
Rooms are very small and out dated. There is no AC and the complimentary breakfast is toast and cornflakes. The elevator is the old school open the door pull back the gate you are lucky if you fit in with your luggage. But the place was clean, the staff friendly and the location pretty central. Guess it depends where you want to spend your money.

- 4/5
A bit disappointed...had requested highest floor available..had a 2nd floor room which would have been fine but it turns out because of the street incline the 2nd floor was actually street level with barred window facing parking lot with some seedy characters hanging out...made me quite uncomfortable...u could look right into my room from sidewalk...ugh!
- 3/5
Decent, budget hotel in a good location, minutes walk from Union Square and about 15 minutes walk from Chinatown. Plenty of shops, bars and dining options close by. This review might have been stronger but for the condition of the property in the online photos compared to reality.
- 4/5
The hotel is near the Powell cable car turntable and the BART station, as well as major retail stores and restaurants.
- 5/5
We liked the classic style combined with the modern amenities.
- 2/5
Location There's a smell, very pungent
- 4/5
It has almost everything you need if you are traveling on your own and mostly just stay for the night. The mattress is decent; good hot water; provides disposable cups and hairdryer; provides body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. Also great location, convenient to go everywhere and come back. The room I am staying has a window that faces a small vertical ‘tunnel’: you get fresh air, but only very little of them. The power sockets are located at awkward positions. No small toothpaste is provided. The bed sheet is not the best. The fridge in my room makes noise at night. Also there is no microwave in my room. Breakfast is very basic but if you know in advance it’s not a big deal.
- 4/5
Good location, the room with microwave and fridge.

Vintage hotel, good upgrades to room
- 1/5
The whole condition of the room was really bad, everything was falling apart. TV didn’t work, window didn’t close fully, carpet stank of wee and many many more… Breakfast is not a breakfast as advertised on their website. It’s literally just bread, butter and stale cereal. I wish I never wasted my money on this hotel. Avoid at all cost.
- 4/5
Older hotel, good price
- 3/5
It was nicely located and the man that worked nights the first two nights that we stayed was amazing he went above and beyond everything. As I stated in what I did like there was a man that worked nights the first two nights that we were there that was awesome however the daytime early morning gentleman was very rude and I didn't appreciate that the only other thing that was very surprising was how small the room was these rooms are very very small if you get a two bed and it's literally two beds in a room that should only have one and there is no closet if you want to hang something up you open up this what you think is a closet and you can literally only put one coat in it sideways so as far as being a bigger room or anything like that it is not do not count on it three people in the two bedroom was too many it's that small

I don't like anything about this hotel we booked 2 bedroom but one didn’t had fan or A/C we had to call front desk to provide portable small fan and me any my friends were sitting in room some random hotel staff women open door using master key also you can park in front of hotel but they tell you to not to parking i don't know for what reason

It was very disappointing,I still have not got my deposit back and they over charged me when I had to upgrade I liked nothing except location breakfast was in the basement and no food
- 2/5
Staff was amazing but the room did not have an AC and we had a hard time sleeping because people were loud into the night.
- 5/5
Clean quiet comfortable basic and very affordable. A short walk to Union Square and the theater district. Recommended for solo travelers or couples.
- 2/5
The breakfast was very limited and other than the most basic that I remember seeing at a breakfast buffet. The elevator is always not functioning correctly. The door in the lobby does not close properly leaving the entire system down. I was on the 6th floor and being 67 years old, did not appreciate having to walk down for the past two days. Not a place that I would recommend.
- 3/5
Location and price were good, Generally it seems better to stay up a little further towards top of Nob Hill to have fewer vagrants as well so that was a minus on the location, but not their fault and SF is getting better. The desk was manned 24/7 and the staff was friendly. They accomodated my room change for less noise. The automated wake up service was a little off (was set to East Coast time). Decor wasn't as good (tacky ceiling fans, etc.) Location would be better one or two stops up Nob Hill.
- 3/5
The price for the room was excellent and the location great. The bed and bathroom were clean but just know that the hotel is very dated. The walls were dirty and I had to wonder about the carpet. All that said, service was friendly and I appreciated the affordability.
- 3.5/5
Great location and clean room Room was really small, and one day they almost dis not clean it because “i asked late” (??) but they did in the end. Worst part was the key: it would demagnetize each time i left the hotel, and that was a drag
- 4/5
Comfortable room, great for the price, great location, nice to have breakfast and water/ tea! Friendly staff and a really cool old building. Would stay there again.

- 5/5
Clean room. Great location with lots of food and entertainment options close by.
- 5/5
Great value for money.
- 4/5
The only thing I would suggest is that they should warn at check in that we need to request the room to be cleaned in advance. We didn't know to put hand the card on the door and when we requested it from a housekeeper who was cleaning a room in the same floor, she told us she couldn't do it, because she had already cleaned all the ones they told her about. Other than that, the hotel is very conveniently located and the rooms are alright.
- 3/5
The bed was comfortable, the decor is outdated, when people from the streets would scream/fight you could hear the noise. The location is excellent, very close to Union Square, and there are plenty of restaurants in the area.
- 3/5
The room was quite small and didn't have any storage space. There also wasn't much soundproofing, so it could be quite loud at night hearing the other guests. Staff were friendly and helpful though :)

When we entered the building and chec
- 4/5
The hotel was clean. It’s in a nice location. Small room but perfect for me.
- 3/5
Clean room, courteous staff, but the overall condition of the hotel is less than good; the dining room evoked lack of care- it is dark, its furnitures are worn out, its walls need deep cleaning.
- 4/5
Clean, friendly staff and cheap price where the hotel location is in the centre of the city
- 4/5
Location. Very near to transport links.
- 1/5
The room size was similar to a "prison cell" and did not match the images provided or expectations of standard hotel accommodation. The complete lack of a wardrobe or closet, combined with broken furniture, confirms the room was not fit for purpose.
- 5/5
Was extremely nice older hotel. My room had a king bed and was lots around it. I enjoyed the old school elevator.
- 3/5
The breakfast could definitely be improved.
- 5/5
Lovely stay! Will definately stay there next time we're in town. Clean, ALL the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our favorite part is the large seat at the window. Just lovely!!
- 4/5
I enjoyed my stay at The Fitzgerald. Its located at a very convenient area in Union Square and there are a wide variety of restaurants near by. Im aware this is an old building; however, the staff does a great job in cleaning, you can chose to have housekeeping every day. Had a mini fridge and a full bathroom (with tub), which was very convenient. There's also free continental breakfast from.7am to 10am.
- 5/5
Spotless room.
- 4/5
Room was clean and the staff was friendly.
- 5/5
Staff was helpful. It’s an older building, so no AC, but it’s San Francisco so the climate is mild. Elevator is turn off the century.
- 1/5
Room was hot with no AC. The ceiling fan didn't even had a speed. Surroundings are very sketchy.
- 4/5
Friendly staff
- 1/5
We were placed on the 5th floor facing the street which we thought would be ok until we entered the room. It was an oven inside with the heat turned off so we opened the windows to cool it down. After our first night being that we needed the windows open, we could hardly sleep with all the sirens and people yelling through the night. We checked out the next day and moved hotels for the rest of our trip.
- 3/5
The staff was great, but the hotel is very aged and not worth the price.
- 2/5
Trash pick up every night around 5 am yelling bums and drama outside. Sheets feel like canvas and no desk or chair or table to eat or work. Bfast was all carbs or sugar heavy yogurt. Coffee was good tho. It was cheap so i guess you get that
- 5/5
The room was very clean. Hotel is in a convenient location to access downtown, airport and tourist attractions. Staff was friendly. I would stay there again if I go back to San Francisco.
- 5/5
very nice place
- 4/5
There's some sort of a club behind the hotel so the back rooms are quite noisy at night. The breakfast is very basic (toast, cereal, fruit, yogurt. coffee) but still, it's a nice convenience which gives this hotel an advantage over similar hotels because you don't have to waste time going out in search of coffee and breakfast. The room and bathroom are clean, no complaints at all. The elevator is really old, the type where you have to hold the door open with one hand while pushing the accordian gate aside with another hand, so try to get a lower floor if you can and just use the stairs. Overall, if you can accept these quirks, the hotel is a good value
- 5/5
It was great breakfast dont know about lsundry room

2. The mattress was good quality & very comfortable 3. There was a leak in my bathroom ceiling & dirty water dripped onto my toilet & flooded the floor. I let the front desk staff know 4 days in a row but nothing was done to fix this situation.

Never ordered this hotel - typical froud. I did not stay this "hotel" and will try to get my money back from Expedia.
- 4/5
The hotel is easy access to all tourist spots
- 3/5
Very basic hotel. The included breakfast was extremely basic. Simple room without AC. Good Wifi. Good central location. Friendly staff.

Great staff, I did not get the room I reserved ( I reserved a queen deluxe, but got a 2 doubles room. It didn't really bother me, it was fine and the beds were comfortable. The room was old but very clean. The bathroom was spotless and had great hot water and pressure . The location was perfect. My only complaint is the electrical outlets need to be replaced as my phone charger kept falling out of the sockets. I would stay here again , but I would ask for a rear room. The street noise can be pretty loud , not a fault of the hotel, it's in a busy neighborhood. Thanks for a nice stay .
- 5/5
More option for breakfast
- 4/5
The receptionist greeted me politely and I was able to check in fast. I arrived a little earlier hoping to sit at the lobby but there was a room available. The bed is comfortable, the sheets are good, has good bath wash, shampoo and everything is clean. Bad: - No bathtub (as advertised). - no insulated/quiet rooms. there is an inch of space under the door. You can hear people in the corridor. - breakfast is useless. I was expecting more than a glass of orange juice and a toast. - Sheets are cotton but not Egyptian cotton.
- 2/5
Hotel needs to be refurbished
- 3/5
It was cheap and cheerful. good restaurants nearby. central. beds ok, room small pillows poor and breakfast pretty basic.
- 2/5
We booked the accommodation because the pictures looked great but it was nothing like the room. It was a tiny, old box. No bathroom space and water goes everywhere when showering. Wouldn’t stay again.
- 3/5
Structurally it’s an old hotel so rooms are small, but it really needs an upgrade of carpet, room paint and decor. Just because the building is old the premises don’t have to look poor and dumpy. The lobby is small and has one chair, which is old, dirty looking and cracked. Given the conditions this is probably a one star hotel. Rooms were clean and staff was helpful.
- 5/5
Staff is so polite and very helpful. The beds were firm-great for anyone who has a challenged back. Elevator is vintage and really neat but, not made for modern luggage and wheelchairs. Super clean-I always check! Lovely, convenient stay.
- 5/5
This is an older hotel and we were concerned that there was no a/c because it was warmer when we were visiting. We worried for nothing because all of our rooms had ceiling fans and windows that actually open to allow a breeze to come in. We were quite comfortable! The area was perfect for us and what we were there for, walking to restaurants, stores, and bus stops was quite simple. The breakfast was basic and didn't work for our group, but that was ok with us. The staff were phenomenal and helped us out anyway they could. Would definitly stay here again.
- 4/5
It was great to stay for business trip
- 5/5
Really quiet and peaceful
- 1/5
Very old facility
- 2/5
Zero AC........ says it all
- 2/5
Very clean and staff were great, but my room looked nothing like the photos and didn’t have working AC. Combined with the only window in my room directly facing another brick building (which I don’t care about aesthetically) made my room incredibly warm. A good, affordable option if you’re planning to be out and about for most of your trip.
- 4/5
The elevator is a tad bit small. The staff is very hospitable. My key card needed consistent replacement during my stay.
- 3/5
The hotel was ok. Stinky and not good hygienic but for the price is fine… nothing like a good spray bottle can fix…. The breakfast
- 3/5
Maintenance: My first morning I reported a clogged sink drain. When I left the second morning it had not been fixed.

Stayed here for a night in the SF. Service desk was frustrating. Guest told us to just park outside, there was no parking. We would’ve had to double park. We were two rooms, expecting them to be together, nope different floors. The card key for one of the rooms didn’t work, instead we had to go back down stairs and were given an actual key. The front desk person was inpatient and rude. The rooms were old and grungy. We picked this hotel because it offered a European vibe. The sink in our bathroom was cracked and falling off the wall, there was mold above the shower. The house cleaners spray a lot of room spray to make it smell clean. The beds are spring and squeak anytime anyone moves. The continental breakfast was sliced bread, cereal and yogurt. All in all, we won’t be staying here again.

This is a standard 2 star hotel. Rooms are small, mine barely fit a double bed. The elevator is slow and cumbersome so i advise the stairs. Private bathrooms that were surprisingly clean, and i say surprisingly b/c i was met with a roach as soon as i entered the room. Freaked me out a bit but was there 2 nights and didnt see another the rest of the stay. Furniture was really worn nightstand showed exposed warped wood through its worn paint, but mini frig wasnt so mini and had a proper freezer with its own door above the frig. The continental breakfasr was nothing to write home about, BUT these days its nice that they are still providing breakfast. They need to update the flooring both in the rooms and hall for a cleaner look and the one piece of furniture (nightstand) could easily be given a fresh coat of paint/stain to make it look less run down.

Loud downtown noises all night. Sirens etc Neighbor opened their door and wake you up. Asked for an iron board, I had to pick it up from the front desk. No AC.. fan was noisy. Worst hotel ever.
- 3/5
Hotel was an older place, but it was attempted to be unique, though it needs a lot of TLC
- 3/5
If you want budget accommodation this is for you. Nothing like the photos on Expedia. But it's still ok accommodation. Make sure you pack ear plugs, as the walls a very thin.
- 4/5
Great for short weekend stay in the city. Walkable distance to attractions and public transport
- 2/5
The hotel is definitely dated. Basic services. Checking in was pretty flawless. Room was your basic room and amenities which we were aware of. Problem we had was we were sleeping Saturday night and all of a sudden we thought we heard rain but it wasn’t. It was water leaking from the fire sprinkler outlet in the bathroom. Had to place trash cans and towels all on the floor. Then actual ceiling was leaking and paint bubbling. We called the front desk and they said they would send one of the guys up. Well they never sent anybody to fix it after we waited over 2 hours. Called again and no answer. We finally just placed towels and ice buckets and trash cans and ice buckets where water was coming from. Had to cover yourself with towels in order to use the toilet. Went to checkout on Sunday and informed them again we were disappointed that we never received any information or communication regarding them fixing it or moving us to another location. He seemed confused that no one addressed the issue. He said thanks for letting them know. After talking to the front desk, he said he’ll give us a $20.00 for our troubles. I/we are not sure if we would recommend or stay here again. 😳

Rooms are super clean and their staff is friendly
- 5/5
Muy bueno todo por el precio y la cercanía a la ciudad
- 3/5
私の泊まった部屋はエアコンがなかったので、冬や夏はきついのかも。冷蔵庫と電子レンジはありました。
- 2/5
Needs refurbishing. I was given a very small room and could not close the bathroom door. The room was ar Road level and there was racket from people and traffic. The reception staff has poor communication skills and we’re not welcoming and friendly.
- 5/5
Nice old hotel in a good location walkable distance to everywhere we needed to be.
- 4/5
The property was in pretty good condition noting its’ advanced age. We had read a number of negative reviews but had no issues ourselves - rooms were small(ish) but quite comfortable and clean. Staff were helpful both via email and phone prior to our arrival, as well as when our flight was delayed by 12 hours and they happily checked us in at about 3am. Breakfast was adequate and very easy. The area is convenient for transport and the hotel is a very short walk from Union Square. The street noise is noticeable, but nothing you wouldn’t expect in a city centre.
- 5/5
It was great to go to a unique hotel, not a cookie cutter one that you could find in any city in the world. I loved the old fashioned elevator too. I really loved the whole experience as I’ve never stayed in SF since I live only 40 minutes away.
- 2/5
The "continental breakfast" was what seemed to be bits of crap in limited quantities with no care. I'm not entirely sure how this hotel is 3 stars, I feel like I would have gotten more peace and felt cleaner in a hostel.
- 5/5
The only thing bad is the parking situation. $55 per car $65 for suv. That should've been disclosed when we rented. But the stay more than makes up for it. The room was comfortable. Staff was friendly. Vintage atmosphere
- 5/5
Great staff, very helpful during check in.
- 4/5
We were given a room in the Andrew's Hotel that is literally the next building. They said that one has better rooms but I can compare because we haven’t been in Fitzgerald. The location is good, close to Union Square and close to bus, train and tram stations. Breakfast was very basic, it was donuts, caffee, yogurt and apples or oranges. It was decently clean but not great. Overally, it's a good option for a few days.
- 4/5
Stayed here before. Central placement. Good hot water. Eclectic selection of furniture. There’s a breakfast but I took mine at the conference location. Friendly staff.
- 3/5
The hotel is in serious need of updating, but for somewhere to sleep, it's just okay.
- 5/5
A very nice breakfast was provided.
- 5/5
Very good

The Fitzgerald Hotel provides a comfortable and convenient stay in a prime San Francisco location. Its charmingly vintage lift is a memorable highlight. If you're looking for a reliable and well-situated base for your San Francisco adventures, the Fitzgerald Hotel is definitely worth considering. It offers good value for its prime location and a touch of old-world charm that you won't find everywhere.

Location was great. This is an old hotel but price and location make up for it. Great for a short stay.

Great

It was simply an average hotel.

And the staff was very pleasant and helpful. A graet stay all around.
- 5/5
Clean a nice place to just crash no real amenities. Good of your by yourself.
- 4/5
Everything I was looking for!
- 4/5
The only issue was hair in the shower that was not mine.
- 4/5
Breakfast is no more than toast/cereal/coffee. Limited options
- 5/5
Breakfast was supposed to be included and they said they stopped it last year but other than that everything else went fine
- 4/5
The hotel is old so you should expect it to look a bit rundown. Sadly they’ve cancelled their complimentary breakfast despite the message in Expedia saying it was running 7-10am. You can’t beat the location, however and it’s very reasonably priced.
- 4/5
Great in the off season. No a/c, might be rough in the summer.
- 4/5
Comfortable bed, quiet. My only criticism is don’t say “parking available” if you mean there is no parking except for concierge parking which is VERY expensive. Misleading.
- 5/5
We stayed because of the name of the hotel, as it is a family name. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was nice and had everything we needed. It was in a great area and we were able to walk or be picked up with ease.
- 4/5
Good value for the money, great location in Union square, 10 min walk to Bart, China town. Breakfast could be improved, adding more variety.
- 5/5
great place

Avoid at all costs
- 4/5
This is a two star hotel so my expectations were not high. The room was old but clean and the bed was comfortable. Good location although the area is now run down. The room was humid (in Jan) and I could only open the window about a centimeter. One of my fellow guests though on arriving at 7am that the staff had not laid out the breakfast but they had, Very limited breakfast, but included in the rate.
- 4/5
This is an old facility. That being said, it is well kept. Very clean. Some upgrades are in process. The bed was comfortable and the bathtub/shower tile were spotless.
- 5/5
Location is perfect. Staff is good. Clean rooms.
- 4/5
It was a good location even thought the hotel is very old and need some remodeling. But somewhat comfortable stay
- 3/5
For the location and price this is good deal, but don't expect a full range of amenities.
- 5/5
stay was great and so was staff
- 5/5
Extremely well priced in a great area right in the heart of Union Sq/San Francisco and the room was very clean with the bedding & towels having that laundry fresh room smell. Yes, the room was quite small but perfectly manageable. If you want a bigger room in SF, be prepared to pay five times more. Staff all super friendly. And all the complaints about a free - yes FREE!! - breakfast in a 2 * hotel are baffling. What do you expect - vintage champagne, lobster and caviar? Besides, you really should be eating at one on San Francisco's countless superb eateries instead of filling up on dry muffins and cornflakes. Great hotel, 5 * all the way.
- 1/5
Bad staff, parking advertised is not accurately represented and hotel staff just shrugged their shoulders about it when I mentioned instead of honoring what they advertise online.
- 5/5
Great location - very clean - good sized room. Breakfast was a nice extra.
- 4/5
I liked the services and good manner of the staff. Limitations found with bathroom door.
- 5/5
Hotel centrally located in downtown San Francisco, it's clean, nice mini fridge and microwave in the room.
- 5/5
was a great stay
- 1/5
The surroundings are unsafe and the service is really poor. There is no parking.
- 5/5
Very friendly. Older hotel but that is what makes it unique. We walked a few blocks to catch the trolley to Fishermans Warf. Buy the daily pass if you are planning more than 1 trolley trip per day.
- 4/5
Was a historic building and other surrounding buildings

- 4/5
Convenient location, continental breakfast, friendly staff.

The Fitzgerald is a small European-style hotel in the heart of downtown San Francisco. Many of SF's main attractions are within walking distance, and the famous cable car to Fisherman's Wharf is two blocks away. If you'd rather save your money so you can spend it on food, sightseeing, (tour buses are available at Union Square). I'd choose the Fitzgerald.
- 5/5
Stayed here for 4 night, enjoyed my stay. Hotel is a bit outdated however for the price I can’t complain too much. Rooms don’t have ac but mine did have a ceiling fan, it’s gets cool at night in San Francisco so leaving the window a bit open helps maintain the room a reasonable temperature. Very close to union square, close to public transportation as well. I would stay here again. They were nice enough to keep our luggage a few hours before and after checkout which was great!
- 3/5
Breakfast included is bagel,Philadelphia cheese, milk+cereals, coffee and juice. This is NOT for romantic weekends but rather a place to lay your head after a busy day exploring San Francisco.
- 4/5
The room was extremely small
- 5/5
It was a very cute, unique hotel.
- 5/5
This hotel is a hidden gem if you are going to sight see ! So convenient all transportation is within three blocks! If you don’t mind an older charming building with no frills, the room was clean and comfortable.

easy access, fast check in, simple comfortable rooms in a nice location
- 3/5
Too much strange people near to the hotel
- 1/5
No air conditioning on a very hot weekend. Was charged more for the parking than quoted online. The parking was two blocks away uphill.
- 5/5
Cutesy, would stay again

Cute place, nice staff but no air conditioning
